Subject: Steelhead Fishing, Rogue River, OR

( 12-19-00 ) I went down on the lower Rogue River below Agness on the 11th & 12th to fish for winter Steelhead. The river was low, fall level, & you could see a dime on the bottom in 8 feet of water. We caught a few small Steelhead 14 to 17 inches ( half pounders ). Saw no winter Steelhead at all. I spoke to a source at Gold Beach today that said they are catching a few winter Steelhead now just up from the mouth of the river, above tide water. We did get a little rain that brought the river up a coulpe of feet. Yesterday I went down on the Rogue below Grants Pass. We caught three Steelhead 3 to 6 pounds. However all of them were summer run Steelhead. The run of winter fish will increase every week now until it hits full stride by the middle of January. I also think we will see a good run this winter. Good luck. Ron.
