Subject: Rogue River Steelhead & Salmon fishing

( 4-2-01 ) The Rogue remains low & it looks like it will stay that way until May when they will release water from Lost Cr. Lake for the Spring Salmon run. They say that Lost Cr. Lake will be 25 ft. from full when they will start to release water. Even with the low water some winter Steelhead have been caught in the Grants Pass area. The count of fish over Gold Ray Dam is at about 3000 Steelhead. Not a high count for the Rogue. Not as good as we would like but fair for conditions. We should see another couple of weeks of Steelhead fishing in the upper river before the Steelhead fishing is over. A few spring Salmon have been caught in the lower Rogue near Gold Beach. Low clear water never has been good for a Salmon bite. We'll just see how it goes when we get into May & they release some water. The fish & game boys think we will see about a 30,000 fish return on the springers. Thats about what we had last year. Good fishing, Ron
