SWFC fishing report 7 May 02

Water temp: 85 degress
Clarity: slight stain
Action: good
Species: Red fish & Hybrid Stripers

This is going to be brief but potent.

Summer has seemed to set in rather fast this year. I'm praying for some relief from the heat and hopefully a little rain for the fish and my hay fields. The dryness has left the dust piled high and my cows are all carrying their own water bottles with them down in the pasture. Heat makes things happen; hot fish action has been the main thing. The spring Hybrid run was short with 2-3 weeks of serious heavy weight stripers sizzling the drags of our light tackle outfits. Plastic grubs delivered the menu with a variety of colors working from day to day. The Hybrids have dispersed to deeper water and will be readily found using electronics searching deep structure. This is a prime situation where our experience using our "Cannon" down riggers for delivering lures to these deep targets really pays off. Those wishing to bait fish will find shad and chicken livers still very productive on the "edges" of deep structure.
Reds!!!!! What can a guide really pray for????? The Lord's bounty this year is delivering an incredible abundance of beefy and hell-bent for leather red fish, ripping the drags extremely consistently. Limits of reds are pretty regular right now. We may complain about the heat and lack of rain, but it has kept the Reds in a predictable pattern. There is a great number of 5-7 lb. fish showing daily; with brutes up to 22# beating at the doors. Summer is coming and believe it or not, things are only going to get better!
As the heat sets in, the Reds are moving more to hard baits and at a faster presentation. In the past 14 years of chasing and studying these marvelous creatures, I feel I have taken the down rigging business to a new dimension. With the aid of incredible electronics and application of strict attention to detail; we are venturing into the fishes world and domain as no angler has ever done before!
Different? I'm definitely different and enjoy exploring, inventing, and developing new techniques and lure presentations, to be your connection to one of the greatest fresh water red fish adventures you'll most likely ever encounter. As I've been told many a time; people haven't realized the that there was such a difference in what guides have had to offer. My techniques and talents show through once they have tried another in order to compare. We offer two guides and boats with the best in state of the art electronics to try and fulfill your dreams and angling adventures.
With the good Lord willing and hopes that the creeks don't rise; we'll do everything we can to make your dreams come true in 2002. Good fishing, good luck, and bless the children..........

Till the next nibble occurs, may monstrous fish and screaming drags, romp in your dreams........ <*)(((((>< Jeff
