Virginia Angler Sets New Freshwater Line Class Record

Dania Beach, Florida, U.S.A. –The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) has announced the approval of a new Virginia freshwater line class record for 4-lb test line.

On May 24, 2000, Ramon Gonzales III of Alexandria, Virginia, caught a 2 lb 12 oz largemouth bass in Pohick Bay, Virginia on 4-lb test line, filling the vacant 4-lb line class category.

There are still six vacant Virginia state line class records vacant in the 4 lb, 12, and 20-lb line classes for largemouth and smallmouth bass, blue catfish, black or white crappie and brook trout. A complete list of eligible record species in each state is available free of charge. State record application forms are also available from IGFA at no charge. There is no fee for IGFA members to submit state record applications. Non-members are charged an application fee of $35, which includes all processing and administrative costs, a state record certificate, and a one-year membership in IGFA.

The IGFA State Line Class Record Program is separate from each state’s all-tackle record program, where rules vary from state to state. Anglers are allowed to release their potential record catches alive after weighing, photographing and measuring their catches.

IGFA is a nonprofit, membership-supported, conservation and record-keeping organization founded in 1939 with members in over 120 countries. The association welcomes visitors to the 60,000 square foot IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame and Museum in Dania Beach, Florida.
