Well, the fall like weather has abandoned us and the heat is on here in Texas. The fishing is still holding on. The little bass are everywhere. They are hitting Carolina and Texas Rigs, small crank baits, lipless crank baits, Tail spinners and jigging spoons. The mornings are started out with anyone of the above mentioned baits. As the sun gets up I switch to the Carolina rig or the tail spinner. I cast the tail spinner like a spinner bait and work it over grass and mid depths out in deep water. Main lake points and grass are the areas I work the Texas and Carolina rigs. This is also a good time to pitch a jig around creek bends and timber. This may get you a good bite. The yellow bass, AKA Bar Fish are showing up on the humps and road beds and this is a good sign. The big fish wont be far away from these areas. The bar fish are good eating and are great fish for the little anglers. Usually the yellow bass are easy to catch which makes them a good choice if you wont to fill your freezer or get your little angler bit. Small spoons and tail spinners will catch these fish. Find them with your electronics and drop a marker. Usually dropping a bait over the side to the bottom and hopping it up and down is the key. Sometimes you will have to just pull the bait up off the bottom and hold it still to get bit. You will have to play with it to get the right presentation. The main thing is be very careful taking them off as the gill plates are very sharp and can cause a serious cut. The crappie are still suspended in 18 to 25 feet over 30 to 35 feet. Small jigs and minnows are the best baits. There are plenty of small fish and it will take you a while to get your limit. Some mornings this will happen quickly and then on others you will have to work all day.
The warm weather has caused the water temp to come up a few degrees, but it is still in the low to mid 70’s. The lake is about a foot low and clear in the main lake and a little off color in the backs of the creeks.
I have a few dates open in October the 28 and 29th and some in November. If you want to book a crappie or bass trip give me a call.
