Subject: Sacramento River Stripers & Trout

May is prime time for striped bass on the Sacramento River in the Colusa-Princeton area. The stripers spawning migration should peak during the next several weeks. Look for lots of schoolies(4-8 lb. males) and some monster hens that that can go from 20-50+ pounds. Trolling, fly fishing, cut bait and live minnows all work. My favorite method is boondoggling or back-bouncing with live minnows. You can cover maximum water and when you hit the schools, the action is non-stop. It's not unusual for anglers to hook 10-15 fish per rod.
Rainbow trout fishing on the Sacramento River (Redding area) is also real good. Our last trip on Sunday produce consistant action on both bait & plugs including two nice trophys that were over 5 pounds.
Shad fishing is just starting & salmon season opens on July 16th.
