Subject: Florida peacock Bass 8lb.

Today was a special day a new Hawghunter Record was broken. On a split day trip Jack & Scott Franz from LaGrange IL. had the best of both worlds. We started in the mourning going out to the Glades(Sawgrass)where I showed the boys Bass fishing Florida style. I went out to the east canel and started Scott off with flappin shads and flukes in the pads. While Dad Jack was dragging shiners off the back.Jack got the stink out of the boat with the first 2lb. bass. Scott on the other hand started to get the hang of things, catching a few 1-2lb. bass, with the flapper, then he banged his biggest bass 5.11lb. right out of the edge of the pads to end a nice day between the both catching 20+ largemouth. Then we headed to Miami for The Peacock Bass, by late mouning the two had a pair of twin 4.12 lb Peacock's and a total of 8 in all. Feeling content with their catch we decided to break for a great waterside cafe lunch at Sonia's, there we had a few beers and some sea food and then back to fishing. Once back on the water with the sun high and blue bird sky the action increased and so did the size. Proceeding to a canal that I've found productive in the late afternoon sun, they pick up another 6. Then it happened we spotted 3 peacock's in this one hole noticing one to be of good size. After 2 or 3 attemps Scott nails one that weighed 3.12lb. Realizing that wasn't the one we had spotted he continued to work the same hole. After about 20 mins. with Dad watching on This "Monster Peacock" crushes his bait, taking out 60 feet of line, at this point we knew it was the bass we had seen earlier. He run his bail 4 times everytime he saw the boat.At one point he came flying out of the water thinking for sure he'd spit the hook, Scott working his trophy perfectly,we finally netted him. This male Butterfly Peacock Bass weighed in at 7lb.11oz. with lenth of 23 inches. This was the last fish of the day which gave the boys something to talk about all the way back to Ill.in the car.Check out more photos and reports on "The Hawghunters" site for daily updates. You could be the next one to break the record and win a FREE mount compliments of Hawghunter Guide Service.
