Subject: John's Best Bass!

Water temps rising 73 +
Winds Blowing 5 to 15mph
Clarity Variable
Shiners Poor and mostly small

Hello friends - Wayne and John returned for a half a day of shiner fishing in hunt of a big one. BAM! John landed a new personal best mini lunker at 8lbs plus.. Depending on who's scale we used it weighed in between 8lbs 2 ounces and 9lbs 8 ounces. No matter what the weight it was a real nice bass and Johns largest to date. Now we only had small semi lively shiners and just 3 hours of water time for the bait to get the big one. The Stickmarsh is producing big fish and this is a clear example of just how realistic a great catch can be in this fishery. Timing is the key and when everything goes right it does not take long to bang a big one. We started drifting slowly at first light using two drift socks to slow us down to a crawl. The depth was 5 ft and we were on the South end of farm13. The bass were there but would not bite. After several drifts we moved in close to the South shore line. 50 yards from shore we anchored up and set out 6 rods rigged in various ways with live shiners. The action started and never stopped until our time was up. The best producer was lip hooked shiners pegged less than a foot from the float. No vis leaders out produced mono and braided lines. Small hooks worked well with the small shiners. A weedless hook with a free lined rig was effective on the drifts. We felt the big bass on the prowl but just didn't have the best bait size wise on this morning. Size does matter when it comes to shiners..... congrats to John on his biggest bass ever. Wayne and John will finish out the week in there own boat. Good luck guy's...
