Subject: Sebastian Area Fishing Report
3/08/01 The wind has finally laid down after 5 days of 15-25mph stuff..that terminated any fishing except from the dock in the marina..was bad..
Prior to the big north blow, fishing was really picking up in the area as the water temps were on the rise. The bait pods with loads of Mackeral & Blue fish were 20 miles south of the inlet and about 3/4 of mile offshore S. Vero..we were loading the boat for several days on all types of light tackle..they should continue moving slowly north..that will be hot and lots of fun.
Dolphin, Cobia, and Wahoo are in good numbers due east of the inlet in 90-125' which is about 18-20 miles off..heavy weed lines last week made finding the dolphin much easier than usual as you could see the schoolies playing along the weed lines..nose up to them and do some casting for great light tackle action..my charters had a ball..Sailfish have been making a grand appearance by surface jumping in large numbers..but had no luck in getting a strike..also alot of Manta Rays Jumping and when found near by..loaded with following Cobia that are easy to catch on a jig or plug..great fun.
River fishing inside the inlet is on the upswing with the warmer waters but will need a few more degrees added to get it really going..Sebastian Inlet fishing off the north Jetty is alway a good mixed bag when using live baits on the out going tides..most of the Reds are way over the slot size but great fun to catch along with monster Jack, Blue Fish, and you never know what else..a great spot..
All for now as we are gone fishin with a calm day today..tight lines.. Capt. Fred |
