Subject: Report for October

The month of Ocober is one of my favorite months to fish here in deep south Texas. The reds are moving and the Tarpon are thick as well. Red fish as well as Tarpon like finger mullet and thats the bait of choice for me.
Large schools of reds are out on the sand as well as ove most of the east side. These guys are out to find their mates and are hungry as he go into their prespawn ritual. The best way to fish these are to drift along throwing mullet on a 6/0 wide gap hook. As the fish takes let him have it for a two count and then set the hook. Artificials work here also but the smell and look of a real mullet hardly ever gets denied. In he last 14 days we have limied like this so I know it works.
The Tarpon on the other hand like this bait as well. However you must get it close to the bottom and around the jetties with out hanging on the rocks. So drift it with a weight and don't cast. When you get the hit just tighten up and don't jerk to set the hook. You'll be amaised at the sucsess ratio if you do this.
