Mattern Guide Service on Lake Fairfield Hello Everybody, Psalm 9; Verses 1-2: I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart: I will show forth all thy marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name. O Most High. Well it was good to be on Lake Fairfield today. Water temps were up at 65 degrees on most of the Lake.Bass fishing was slow till about noon with an occassional Bass on wacky rigged Nichols sinkers in Green Pumpkin Pepper. Bass were caught up to about 2 lbs. on the sinker. Went to a Carolina-rigged Nichols creature bait in Watermelon Red and began to catch keeper Bass up to about 4.3 lbs. Some really good Bass were caught this way fishing the first break lines off main Lake Points in about 8 feet to about 12 feet of water. But was still really a slow bite. Then we went to shallow running crankbaits in shad patterns and begin to put some Big Bass in the Boat up to 6 lbs. They were on the wood in about 6 feet of water. As Sun got up and it warmed up I went to a Medium diving crankbait in shad pattern and that's when we caught alot of Big Bass. One of the Biggest this year in Lake Fairfield over 7 lber. All fish were released and on those crankbaits we caught over 20 Bass over 4 lbs. with 4 over 5 lbs. It was like a light came on at 1:00 PM and we went to a little deeper crankbait. We ended up catching some really nice Bass swimming a Watermelon-Chartruse Belley Ribbit Frog near banks this evening. Got some great pictures and all the Bass were released. No Redfish today but some guys were at the discharge and caught a couple of nice redfish chunking a white slab. When Bass are off the plastics be sure and go to crankbaits it could be one of those best days of your life. God bless and Keep ya'll. Mattern Guide Service on Lake Fairfield Hello Everybody, Isaiah 40: Verse 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Well this is not really a fishing report but I thought it was quite important to you to have some information on Lake Fairfield. Lake Fairfield closes down the Lake for 2- 1 week periods every year for a special deer hunt within the park around the lake area. The Lake will be shut down for December 3rd thru December 8th and again on December 31st thru January 5th. The main office at the park is 903-389-4514 if you need more information. I remember driving many a time to the Lake only to get there in times back and hit one of these weks to be informed the Lake was closed. I have been getting lots of calls from you guys so make a note in planning your trips so your day will be blessed. I am sitting in today keeping warm till the worst is over before getting back out on the lakes. God Bless. Mattern Guide Service on Lake Fairfield Hello Everybody, Job 1: verse 21: And said, Naked came I out of my Mothers womb, and naked shall i return thither; The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Well this day was a great day on Lake Fairfield with water temps in the low 70's about 73. Started out at daylight with Mr. Rodney Rowe from Jacksonville throwing Buzzbaits. We had a few blow ups but no hook ups. Threw a shallow Tennessee shad colored crankbait and hooked up with 2 Redfish about 2-3 lbers. Looked around and finally figured out the Bass and Redfish were feeding off Main Lake points fattening up on shad. Mr. Rowe caught some great fish between the deeper points on Carolina rigged Nichols creature baits in Watermelon Red and the wacky rigged Nichols Salty Mother Sinker in Green Pumpkin Pepper( A Senko Type Bait) I watched Him fight to the Boat 2 about 5 lbs. or better and we caught altoghether over 30 Bass and 8 Redfish. Bass up to About 5 lbs. and redfish up to about 3.5 lbs. Mr. Rowe had caught a bigger redfish that weighed in at about 12 lbs on a day He fished by Himself on Saturday. Ramp is still tricky and need at least 6 inches more water to 1 foot for tandem trailered rigs. Single tandem can get in and out ok. Sounds like a Artic cold front is comming in Thursday and I expect it will shut down the bite for a few days and then the bite will kick in again. I noticed the Bigger females we caugh today were already getting full of eggs. They should began spawning at Fairfield in another 3 weeks to a month. Lake Farfield spawns about 1 - 1 1/2 monyths before the Cold Water Lakes. The wacky rigged Green pumking Pepper Nichols Salty Mother sinker was working great on edge of the reeds with the next to biggest Bass of the day comming to the boat on it by Mr. Rowe. Be Sure and call Mr. Nichols for a Catalog on His baits and you can reach Him by calling 903-589-8100. If you would like a trip to Fairfield to get into some Winter Action on Bass and Redfish just call me at 903-478-2633 and I will book you in.Thanks and May God bless.
