Monday 13th August 2007 Miramichi River report from G.R.Colford & Sons Sporting Camps Atlantic salmon fly fishing on the famous Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada. With all the warm weather over the past 3 weeks the fishing is still very hard! Very few fish were reported being hooked over the weekend on all parts of the river. The water temperature is not so bad in the mornings at 68F but it gets up there in the afternoon to 75F or higher in some parts of the river. With cooler days and nights coming this week in the forecast, it may improve the fishing and keep the temperatures down and then we may see an increase in some fish coming in. There are lots of fish holding in the Brooks and at the mouth of the smaller tributaries. Cumulative counts to date of salmon as of July 31, 2007 at the Southwest Millerton Trapnet are Salmon 301. And for grilse is 865 as of July 31, 2007. The percentage is that they trap between 8 to 10% as they are moving up stream. This is down from last year but still are not bad numbers to date with all the warm weather that we have had so far. Flies of choice the last couple of days were brown bombers with orange hackle and green machines. Bye for now, Rodney Colford G.R. COLFORD & SONS Sports Guiding Since 1929 River Reports From - http://www.guidenb.com Friday August 10th 2007 Miramichi River report from G.R.Colford & Sons Sporting Camps Atlantic salmon fly fishing on the famous Miramichi River in New Brunswick. The Main South West Miramichi the last couple of days got a nice raise of water, And cooled it down to the 62 to 69 degree mark. Many fish seen moving were very silver in color. And a lot of them were very good size salmon. I talked to a few anglers from Blackville to Doaktown and they are all seeing and hooking a few fish. And a lot of grilse are being hooked aswell. I have not heard of any fish being hooked with sea lice on them. Flies of choice were brown bombers- brown hackle, White bomber- orange hackle, Christmas tree bomber- with yellow & orange hackle, all with white tails. and your green machines with white tails, and green machines with red butt. And all single hooks #8's & #6's. Bye for now, Rodney Colford G.R. COLFORD & SONS Sports Guiding Since 1929 River Reports From - http://www.guidenb.com Thursday August 9th 2007 Miramichi River report from G.R.Colford & Sons Sporting Camps Atlantic salmon fly fishing on the famous Miramichi River in New Brunswick. On the lower stretches of the SW Miramichi the water temperature got back down into the 60's and got the fish into the taking mood. With over 25 fish being hooked in the short time and a triple header on at one time, but only 2 of us landed out of 3 fish. My daughter Laura age 7 hooked her 1st Salmon ever on a bomber. Zachery also got his 1st of the season along with 2 more, all on bombers. Rob Strange hooked 5 all on green machines red butt. I hooked 3 all on bombers as well. Anglers at black brook by the mouth of Cains River got into several fish but mostly all on wet flies. We seen several fish very silver looking jumping in the pool some of the 30lb range. With the water still raising a little last night at dark, up about 2 inches. Should get the morning of to a very good start. I will be back with todays report later this evening. As for the fishing this is great news for the fish and the Angler for August. We really needed a good change in the weather to pick things up. Bye for now, Rodney Colford G.R. COLFORD & SONS Sports Guiding Since 1929 River Reports From - http://www.guidenb.com |

Southwest Miramichi River Report – 06/28/07 The fish are here! Home Pool now has an abundance of fish, several have been hooked over the last few days. There have also been several large trout hooked and released in the bogan lately as well. Thanks to all the rain that has fallen on the Miramichi this week the river is at a good level, and more fish are on their way! The weather has finally changed for the better here in New Brunswick! It's been sunny on the Miramichi with highs in the twenties all this week. The river is at a good level with clear, beautiful water. It is still high enough that all the fishing has to be done out of boats. Boats with guides & their guests are going up and down the river, so we know there are lots of fish around. The salmon are taking on the top with smaller flies and there are quite a few larger trout being taken as well. Southwest Miramichi River Report - 04/26/07 Spring fishing for wild Atlantic Salmon on the Miramichi River in NB is underway about to ramp up. Very warm and sunny conditions in mid-April have encouraged the River to open up and enthusiastic fishermen are evident! For the most part, the water is flowing freely now with an occasional piece of ice floating by. Buds on the trees are close to opening and yes, it looks and feels like the first weeks of fishing season in New Brunswick. The forecast for the next week is warm and early anglers are already catching spring salmon. The fishing season on the Miramichi River opened on April 15 and will continue until October 15. http://www.dropshots.com/photos/252409/20070426/132402.jpg http://www.dropshots.com/photos/252409/20070426/132412.jpg Taken from www.fishandhuntcanada.com. |

With fishing season soon aproaching on April 15th/2007 and the colder weather that we are having is keeping the river ice solid for the start of the season. There are a few places that you can wet a line in the smaller rivers like the Cains and Bartholomew river. The South West Miramichi has a few spots open but only a few! The North West Miramichi is still frozen solid with very heavy looking ice.We need some warmer weather or rain to raise the river to get the ice moving. |
