Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Report 9/21/09
By Capt. Jim Hirt
The warm water is in and the fish are out. A temperature break has set up in 110 to 195 feet of water. The best action for Chinooks is 75 to 120 down. Magnum spoons are taking all size fish. Shore, gap and near shore action for pier and small boat angler's is picking up with reports of four-year-old kings. The Kenning family of Minnesota caught a nice mixed bag of Chinook, Rainbows and Lake Trout on Reaper magnum spoons.

Patterns and program for the harbor and gaps.
The areas around the harbor break walls and gaps have been improving and the best is yet to come. Fish them at first and last light of the day for a few Chinook and Brown Trout. Shore and boat anglers are getting some fish with Vulcan magnum size Glow spoons and j-plugs before sunrise.

Patterns and program 110 to 195 feet
The temperature break to 52 degrees is at least 100 feet down. The deepest we have caught fish is 150 feet down with the majority of our fish coming 75 to 110 feet down. Head out 60 degrees from the north gap and set up in 110 feet of water. Use Fish Fry Glow Spoons at first light on the bottom in 110 feet

You will find action on mostly Rainbows with five, six, eight and ten color leadcore with Badger Tackle Vulcan and Reaper Magnum spoons. Downriggers 65 to 120 down are taking all size Chinooks. I use Church Walleye Planner Boards for all my lead cores.

Some of our best producing spoons have been Vulcan Magnum Silver Lizard, Reaper Magnum Peacock Silver, and Magnum Fish n Chip. For small spoons the Vulcan Dolphin Green Silver and combinations of silver spoons with green or blue accent colors. Run the boat speed at 1.6 to 2.1 MPH. Vulcans, Nestor Wobblers and Reapers are sold only on the web at http://www.badgertackle.com Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Report 9/9/09

East wind continues and the fish have marched out to deeper water. A temperature break has set up in 110 to 195 feet of water. The best action for Chinooks and Rainbow Trout is 25 to 120 down. Church Tackle lighted 8 inch Revelators with green or white flies or magnum spoons are taking all size fish. Shore, gap and near shore action for pier and small boat angler's remains very slow. The Kevin Lampe family pictured enjoyed a near grand slam on Lake Michigan with Chinook, Coho, Rainbows and Lake Trout. All they needed was a Brown Trout. With perfect weather all had fun.

Patterns and program for the harbor and gaps.
The areas around the harbor break walls and gaps have been very slow but the reports are it is getting better. Fish them at first and last light of the day for a few Chinook and Brown Trout. Shore anglers are getting some fish with Vulcan regular size Glow spoons before sunrise or live bait.

Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Report 8/24/09

West wind has not changed the fish location or attitude. A lot of cold water has moved the fish high in the water column. Shore, gap and near shore action for pier and small boat anglers remains steady and consistent. Anglers are enjoying some big Chinook with all sizes and species active. Most presentations are working magnum spoons have been best. This father and son duo of Jack and Tom Hansen were excited to land this 18 pound 4 ounce Chinook on a Reaper Magnum Big Joe Silver spoon.

Patterns and program for the harbor and gaps.
The areas around the harbor break walls and gaps have been most productive at first and last light of the day. Magnum spoons trolled or jigged are working. Shore anglers are getting fish with Vulcan regular size Glow spoons before sunrise or live bait.

Patterns and program 30 to 60 feet
The temperature break to 42 degrees is at 20 feet down in most areas. The deepest we have caught fish is 40 feet down with the majority of our fish coming above 25 feet. I start off the main gap in 40 feet of water and work northeast. The last couple of days I have seen more 4-year-old Chinooks gathering for their run up the river.

You will find action on mostly Chinooks with two, three and five color leadcore with Badger Tackle Vulcan and Reaper Magnum spoons. Downriggers or leadcores 10 to 40 down are taking all size Chinooks big Coho, Browns and Lake Trout. I use Church Walleye Planner Boards for all my lead cores.

West wind is providing 45 degree water near shore with steady and consistent action for all species. Most presentations are working and anglers are enjoying action on Chinooks, Coho and huge Lake Trout. We had a Laker over twenty pounds this past week. Set up in 40 feet and run spoons 15 to 35 feet down for some of the best fishing of the season. Eleven almost twelve year old Adam Brigmann battled this 11 pound 4 ounce Coho to a successful end.

Patterns and program 40 to 80 feet
The temperature break to 50 degrees is at 20 feet down in most areas. The deepest we have caught fish is 60 feet down with the majority of our fish coming above 45 feet. I start off the north gap in 40 feet of water and work northeast.

You will find steady action on mostly Chinooks with three, five and six color leadcore with Vulcan Magnum spoons. Coho over 7 pounds are common on Vulcan Magnum Lizard Silver spoons 30 to 40 feet down. Downriggers or leadcores 30 to 45 down are taking all size Chinooks big Coho and all size Lake Trout. I use Church Walleye Planner Boards for all my lead cores.

Some of our best producing spoons have been Vulcan Magnum Silver Lizard, Magnum Silver Sky, Reaper Magnum Peacock Silver, and Magnum Fish n Chip. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Report 8/03/09
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Anglers are enjoying action on Chinooks, Coho and Rainbows lots of Rainbows to 12 pounds and some Lake Trout. Action is in 65 to 110 feet. Set up at 60 feet and run spoons 15 to 50 feet down for Rainbows and Coho. The four year old kings some over 19 pounds are coming near the bottom in 65 feet on magnum Reaper Spoons. Greg Klos of Milwaukee was very proud of this 20.25-pound Chinook he caught.

Patterns and program 65 to 110 feet
Out in the deeper water east of Milwaukee is the best fishing for Chinook, Rainbow and Coho. I start off the north gap in 60 feet of water and work east. I fished the water closer to shore with some success however the deeper water has been better.

Steady action on Rainbows with three, five and six color leadcore continues to be the better part of our catch. Once again small Vulcan spoons are best for Rainbows. Coho over 7 pounds are common on Vulcan Magnum Lizard Silver spoons 40 to 50 feet down. Downriggers or leadcores 30 to 50 down are taking three year old Chinooks big Coho and all size Lake Trout. Magnum Reapers on the deep lines are getting the job done. Check the down temperature and look for 50 degrees. The temperature changes with wind direction today it is 49 degrees at 40 feet. I use Church Walleye Planner Boards for all my lead cores.

Some of our best producing spoons have been Vulcan Magnum Silver Lizard, Magnum Silver Sky, Reaper Magnum Peacock Silver, and Magnum Fish n Chip. For small spoons the Vulcan Dolphin Green Silver and combinations of silver spoons with green or blue accent colors. Run the boat speed at 1.6 to 2.3 MPH. Set up at 55 feet and run spoons 10 to 25 feet down for Rainbows 40 to the bottom for salmon. All size spoons are working magnum spoons have been my best producer for salmon the last five days.

Patterns and program 60 to 120 feet
Out in the deeper water northeast of Milwaukee is the best fishing for Chinook, Rainbow and Coho. I start off the north gap in 60 feet of water and work northeast.

Steady action on Rainbows on two, three and five color leadcore continues to be the better part of our catch. Once again small baits are best for Rainbows. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Report 6/15/09
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Mid-June the action on Lake Michigan out of Milwaukee heats up. The surface temperature is up to 50 degrees and the fish like the warmer water. Go deep and fish for Chinook, Coho, Rainbow and Lake Trout.

Patterns and program under 40 feet
I have not fished in close to shore during the past week. Reports from other anglers that did fish in tell me that there are fish to catch near shore. Around the harbor break wall gaps anglers are taking Coho Chinook and Browns. This is a all spoon bite for Chinook and Browns on downriggers. Run them long behind the ball and staggered every 10 feet from top to bottom. The Coho are coming on Church Walleye Planner Boards with OO dodgers or 6-inch flashers and medium blue or green flies are my go to bait for Coho. Our best spoons have been the blue and green Magnum Reaper Peacock or the Reaper Magnum Fish n Chip. When the wind and waves keep you in, the gaps will produce. Water temp are up to 55 degrees in most areas.

Patterns and program 65 to 150 feet
Out in the deeper water northeast of Milwaukee is the best fishing for Chinook, Rainbow, Lake Trout and Coho. Good numbers on all species with the best action on Coho. I start at the Water Filtration Plant in 65 feet of water and work north and east.

Our fish came on Magnum Reaper spoons for Chinook and Lake Trout on downriggers or leadcores 30 to 60 down or OO dodgers or 6-inch flashers and medium blue or green flies for Coho. Experiment with lengths of the fly leader to the dodger or flasher. Start with 3 times the length of the attractor. The standard presentation for Coho is Church Walleye Planner Boards with 25-foot leads and 3/8-ounce weight.

The water is very clear and you must run the spoons 50 to 100 behind the downrigger weight 70 to 130 down to get Lakers. The Rainbows have been 45 down in 120 feet of water on regular size Vulcan or Reaper spoons.

Some of our best producing spoons have been Reaper Magnum Peacock Silver and Magnum Fish n Chip on sunny days. Try the Reaper Magnum Glow spoons on overcast cloudy days. For small spoons the Vulcan Dolphin Green Silver and combinations of silver spoons with green or blue accent colors. Run the boat speed at 1.9 to 2.3 MPH. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Reports 6/1/2009
By Capt. Jim Hirt
May ended with decent fishing for Chinook, Coho and Lake Trout. You may have to move around to get a respectable cooler of fish. Deep and shallow water are two different fisheries. Water Temperatures are coming up and this should improve the action on all species.

Patterns and program under 60 feet
There are two different options for fishing, which should produce for all big and small boat anglers. Around the harbor break wall gaps we are taking Coho Chinook and Browns. This is a all spoon bite for Chinook on downriggers. With Coho coming on Church Walleye Planner Boards with 25-foot leads and 3/8-ounce weight. OO dodgers or 6-inch flashers and medium blue or green flies are my go to bait for Coho. When the gaps are slow move out east. Switch the presentation to five and eight color leadcore on boards or downriggers 25 to 48 down with all spoons. Our best spoons has been the blue and green Magnum Reaper Peacock or the Reaper Magnum Fish n Chip. Action has been in 50 to 60 feet. When the wind and waves keep you in, the gaps will produce. Water is still cold at 46 degrees and fish may be scattered.

Patterns and program 100 to 140 feet
Out in the deeper water South and East of the main gap Milwaukee is the best fishing for Lake Trout and Coho. Our fish came on Magnum Reaper spoons for Lake Trout or OO dodgers or 6-inch flashers and medium blue or green flies for Coho. Experiment with lengths of the fly leader to the dodger or flasher. Start with 3 times the length of the attractor. The standard presentation for Coho is Church Walleye Planner Boards with 25-foot leads and 3/8-ounce weight. The water is very clear and you must run the spoons 50 to 100 behind the downrigger weight 70 to 100 down to get Lakers.
I tried plugs with no action. Run the boat speed at 1.9 to 2.3 MPH. Vulcans, Nestor Wobblers and Reapers are sold only on the web at http://www.badgertackle.com Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Reports 5/19/2009
By Capt. Jim Hirt
May fishing is improving and action on Chinooks has been good. We have been out everyday for the six days. Tons of baitfish around and this should crank up the action.

Patterns and program under 35 feet
Here are two different options for fishing, which should produce for all big and small boat anglers. Around the harbor and in the break wall gaps mostly Browns with some Chinook and post spawn Rainbows. This is a all small spoon bite. Church Walleye Planner Boards with 25-foot leads and 3/8-ounce weight is taking browns from 3 to 10 pounds. Downriggers at all depths are also working. Slide Divers are producing very well set to #3 with 35 feet of line out. Our best spoon has been the red and white Nestor Wobbler Sunburn Glow, Vulcan Bloody Nose Glow and Vulcan OL Sherbet. When the wind and waves keep you in the gaps are options. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 66 degrees the lake is 46.

Patterns and program 45 to 60 feet
Out in the deeper water South and East of the main gap Milwaukee has held the best fishing for Chinook 10 to 18 pounds and Lake Trout. All our fish came on Magnum spoons. Two, three, four and five color leadcore or downriggers 12 to 45 down had action. The water is very clear and you must run the spoons 50 to 100 behind the downrigger weight to get fish.
Some of our best producers have been Reaper Magnum Peacock Silver and Magnum Fish n Chip on sunny days. Try the Reaper Magnum Glow spoons on overcast cloudy days. Run the boat speed slow in the 1.8 to 2.1 MPH for the cold water. I tried plugs and flasher flies with no action. Vulcans, Nestor Wobblers and Reapers are sold only on the web at http://www.badgertackle.com Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Reports 9/3/2008
By Capt. Jim Hirt
The last three days of wind has kept the temperature break and currents on the move. Correct boat speed and presentation has been the answer to catching fish. Key in on 50 degree temperature for success. Surface temperature is 70 with the Temperature break moving each day. Trolling west to east will cover a large spread of temperatures and currents. When you mark fish on the locator without success change direction and see if that helps. Currently the action down is at 25 to 120 feet. We are catching mostly Chinook and Big Brown Trout to 14 pounds. The photo with this report is of two big Browns. The fish are in 45 to 120 feet of water. The best action is over 100 feet east of the Filtration Plant and north for 2 and 3 year old Chinook. Four year old Chins are in the warm water and the rain the next two days should bring some of them up the Milwaukee River. Look for them outside the harbor and out to 65 feet of water. Church Walleye planer boards with 8 and 10 color Cortland Kerplunk leadcore and 300 feet of copper wire are taking Chinooks. For all species on sunny days use Reaper Magnum Monkey Puke, Peacock, Fish n Chip and Big Joe Silver spoons. Use all glow spoons early in the morning and inside the harbor. On overcast days and low light try the Reaper Magnum Blue Fox Glow spoons. We are getting good reports of action in the warm water conditions on both sides of Lake Michigan on these glow spoons. This makes sense as most of the fish are coming deep and the glow spoons are most visible for the fish in deep water presentations. For anglers that have not tried the Reaper and Vulcan spoons from Badger Tackle.com I recommend you give them a try. They are offering a buy 4 and get 1 free at this time. The fish ranged in size from 3 to 21 pounds. Trolling at 1.8 to 2.0 miles per hour at the ball will get more fish. Experiment with speed up to 2.6 MPH. Lately a faster speed has worked for the big Chins. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on the Badger Tackle web site at http://www.badgertackle.com Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. With Blue Max Charters He can be reached at 414-828-1094 or visit his web site at http://www.bluemaxcharters.com I am always available for a comment or update. Thanks!!

Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Reports 7/23/2008
By Capt. Jim Hirt
East wind and warm weather has brought the warm water into Milwaukee. Surface temperature is 60 with the Temperature break at 40 feet. It is important to check your down temps every trip as wind direction will rapidly change the thermocline and location of active fish. Look for 50 degrees this is a good place to start. Currently the action down is at 40 feet. We are catching all five types of Lake Michigan fish Chinook, Coho and Lake, Brown and Rainbow Trout. The fish are from the 50 to 100 feet of water fishing 40 feet and down. The best action is from east of the filtration plant all the way to Fox Point. Church Walleye planer boards with 4,5,8 and 10 color Cortland Kerplunk leadcore with Reaper Magnum Monkey Puke, Peacock, Fish n Chip, and Big Joe Silver spoons have been best. Spoons in silver/blue, silver/green or silver/chartreuse caught Chinooks Coho and Lake Trout. Vulcan Magnum Blue Sky and Silver Lizard are also taking fish. On overcast days try the Reaper Magnum Fish Fry Glow spoons. For you anglers that have not tried the Reaper and Vulcan form Badger Tackle.com I recommend you give them a try. Most of my fish are on Vulcan's and Reapers everyday. They are offering a buy 4 and get 1 free at this time. The fish ranged in size from 3 to 20 pounds. The 4-year-old Chinook have been very active the last several days with many Chins to 17 pounds with a few over 20. The smaller Vulcan regular size Dolphin Green Silver spoons are taking Rainbows on 2 color leadcore. Downriggers from 40 to 60 feet down 125 behind the ball picked up Chinooks and Laker's. Trolling at 1.8 to 2.1 miles per hour on the Depth Raider speed and temp gauge will get more fish. We ran Slide Divers with the big ring they took their share of fish with 40 70 feet of line out set to number one and a half. I used 50-pound Power Pro on all my divers this year and it allowed for better hook sets and deeper running with less problems. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on the Badger Tackle web site at http://www.badgertackle.com Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. With Blue Max Charters He can be reached at 414-828-1094 or visit his web site at http://www.bluemaxcharters.com If you are going out on the lake please call me for an update.

Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Salmon Reports 7/15/2008
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Continuous west wind has pushed the warm water out of Milwaukee. Surface temperature is 46 with the coldest water north of the filtration plant. This has brought the fish to the top 30 feet. We are catching all five types of Lake Michigan fish Chinook, Coho and Lake, Brown and Rainbow Trout. The fish are from the 30 to 70 feet of water fishing the top 30 feet. The shore anglers are doing well off the break wall at McKinley Marina. There is some fish deep however working the top will put more fish in the cooler. The best action is from east of the filtration plant all the way to Fox Point. There is not a concentration of fish anywhere with good action everywhere. Church Walleye planer boards with 2,3,4 and 5 color Cortland Kerplunk leadcore with Reaper Magnum Monkey Puke, Peacock, Fish n Chip, and Big Joe Silver spoons in silver/blue, silver/green or silver/chartreuse caught Chinooks Coho and Lake Trout. Vulcan Magnum Blue Sky and Silver Lizard are also taking fish. On overcast days try the Reaper Magnum Fish Fry Glow spoons. They are offering a buy 4 and get 1 free at this time. The fish ranged in size from 3 to 20 pounds. The 4-year-old Chinook have been more active the last several days with many Chins to 17 pounds. The smaller Vulcan regular size Dolphin Green Silver spoons are taking a many Rainbows on 2 color leadcore. Downriggers from 15 to 30 feet down 125 behind the ball picked up Chinooks and Laker's. I am running all spoons I think the 8-inch flashers are turning the fish off with the calm clear water we have had lately. Trolling at 1.8 to 2.1 miles per hour on the Depth Raider speed and temp gauge will get more fish. We ran Slide Divers with the big ring they took their share of fish with 40 70 feet of line out set to number one and a half. Fish Report 9/4/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan

By Capt. Jim Hirt
West wind over the holiday moved out some of the warm water. Look for fish higher in the water column. We had fish from 25 to 60 down in 60 to 110 feet of water. The action has been fair with all species active. Baitfish in the four-inch size is in the stomachs of the fish and magnum spoons have been best. Big four-year-old Chinooks are also moving into the areas in and just outside the harbor gaps. We didn't work them with all the holiday boaters but, the normal pattern is to run magnum spoons and J-plugs. All size salmon and some Browns and Lake Trout are making up our catch. The wind will be southwest again today and this will crank up the action near the gaps and in the deeper water. We have been fishing in Whitefish Bay and off the water filtration plant. On the calmer days run leadcore in 5, 8 and 10 colors or if you don't have leadcore run 150 foot leads behind the ball on your downriggers. Spoons in the magnum or regular size are my first choice. It is a continuous all day bite when you use this presentation. Lots of big Rainbows this season with fish to 18 pounds. The Coho are getting big in the 5 to 9 pound range. Kings are running 5 to 22 pounds. Rainbow Trout action has been best in the warmer water just above the break on Reaper Magnum Peacock Silver or Vulcan Dolphin Silver spoons presented on 5 and 8 color leadcore. Slide Divers with magnum spoons, 60 foot leads set to #1 with 95 to 120 feet of line out. 70 to 110 feet of water has been best for the big kings. Reaper Magnum Fish N Chip, Peacock and Vulcan Magnum Silver Leaf, Silver Sky spoons on the downriggers are taking Chinooks and Lake Trout. Run the spoons 80 or more feet behind the downrigger ball for success. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on their web site at http://www.badgertackle.com When you find the 52 water fish just above and below for great salmon action. Our best bite has been at slow speed 1.7 to 2.0 mph. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Fish Report 8/28/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan

By Capt. Jim Hirt
East wind and west wind has not slowed the fishing. Seventy to eighty feet of water has been good the last two days with steady action and good catches on all species. Warm water has moved but the fish don't seem to care. We are fishing down 50 to 80 feet. Big four-year-old Chinooks, lots of two and three year olds and some Browns and Lake Trout are making up the catch. When the near shore action is slow move out to 150 feet for cold water. Check for the location of 52-degree water for the best action. On the lumpy days downriggers and wire divers are the way to go with fish from 45 to 100 feet down in 125 to 160 feet of water. We have been fishing in Whitefish Bay and off the water filtration plant. On the calmer days run leadcore in 5, 8 and 10 colors or if you don't have leadcore run 150 foot leads behind the ball on your downriggers. Spoons in the magnum or regular size are my first choice. East wind and rain has made for tough sledding on our charters the last three days. However, we have found steady action with good catches on all species. Warm water has moved in and the most consistent action is out over 125 feet of water fishing down 50 to 80 feet. Big four-year-old Chinooks, lots of two and three year olds are making up the catch. All species are active in all sizes. Check for the location of 52-degree water for the best action. Fish Report 7/20/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan

By Capt. Jim Hirt
I have been out twice a day everyday for the last two weeks. All species are active in all sizes. The west wind has brought fishing to a frantic pace. All presentations are working with fish from 15 to 75 feet down in 35 to 110 feet of water. It does not get any easier than it is right now! The cleaning station is humming with activity. On the calm days run leadcore in 3,4,5, and 8 colors or if you don't have leadcore run 150 foot leads behind the ball on your downriggers. Spoons in the magnum or regular size are my first choice. It is a continuous all day bite when you use this presentation. Lots of big Rainbows this season with fish to 18 pounds. The Coho are getting big in the 5 to 9 pound range. Fish Report 7/08/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan

By Capt. Jim Hirt
The lake is warming and a thermocline is setting up. The surface action has slowed and the temperature break is at 45 feet to 50 degrees. Rainbow Trout action has been best in the warmer water just above the break in sizes of 4 to 14 pounds. All our action on Rainbows has been on Reaper Magnum Fish N Chip Silver or Vulcan Dolphin Silver spoons presented on 5 and 4 color leadcore or Slide Divers with 60 foot leads set to #1 with 55 to 75 feet of line out. 80 to 120 feet of water has been best. The deep water has been slow. With two foot or less waves presentation has been easy. Four-year-old Chinooks 15 to 20 pounds has been the biggest part of the catch on magnum spoons 25 to 75 feet down. Reaper Magnum Fish N Chip, Peacock and Vulcan Magnum Silver Leaf, Silver Sky spoons on the downriggers are taking Chinooks and Lake Trout. Run the spoons 80 feet behind the downrigger ball for success. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on their web site at http://www.badgertackle.com The wind has brought the temperatures near shore is up to 61 degrees on the surface and that action in has slowed. Start your trip in 70 feet of water and fish out to deeper water. Look for 52-degree or colder water. Our best presentations are planer boards with 4, 5, 8, or 10 color lead core and downriggers 40 to 75 feet down. Slide Divers are also producing set to #1 with 65 feet of line out. Our best speed was 2.0 to 2.5 mph. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Fish Report 6/4/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan

By Capt. Jim Hirt
The unsettled weather with storms and rain has not effected the fishing. With two foot or less waves presentation has been easy making for very productive fishing. With fourteen rods out the action is steady. Most of the fish are in the top 45 feet on 6-inch flashers or OO dodgers with peanut, small hair cut or Mylar flies tied 10 5/8 inches long. The Coho are not all that picky on color most green or blue flies will work. The majority of the fish are coho with limits most trips. Reaper Magnum and Vulcan Magnum spoons in blue/green or silver/ green on the downriggers are taking Chinooks and Lake Trout 8 to 15 pounds 35 to 45 down fifty feet behind the ball. The only place you will find Reaper and Vulcan spoons is on their web site at http://www.badgertackle.com The wind has brought the temperatures near shore is up to 61 degrees on the surface and that action in has slowed. Start your trip in 70 feet of water and fish out to deeper water. Look for 52-degree surface water and fish the top 20 feet for the best action. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 25 to 45 feet down. Slide Divers are also producing set to #1 with 35 feet of line out. We are also producing 2 or 3 Rainbows per trip on the flasher flies. Our best speed was 1.7 to 2.0 mph. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Fish Report 5/24/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan

By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fished four out of the last five days. Coho fishing is getting better every trip we are averaging 8-12 per trip. A few Coho on crankbaits with the majority on flasher peanut flies or dodger peanut flies. The fly color varies with aqua, kelly green and green/silver the best. The Coho are not all that picky on color most green or blue flies will work. The lake was 1-3 and the wind was out of the east, northeast or southeast. The east wind has brought the temperatures near shore up to 48 degrees on the surface. Look for this 48-degree water and fish the top 15 feet for the best action. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 25 to 35 feet down. Slide Divers are also producing set to #1 with 20 feet of line out. We had some fish on downriggers but the majority of fish came in the top 15 feet on Slide Divers and Yellow Birds. The way I set up a planer board is with 20 lb. mono to a 3/8-ounce bead chain sinker. Use 8 feet of 18 lb. Seaguar Fluoro Premier fluorocarbon leader from the sinker to a size #1 Cross Lock snap and lure. We had action on orange flashers with peanut flies tied at 11 inches long and double o dodgers required longer fly length of 21 inches. We are also producing 2 or 3 Chinook per trip on the downriggers. The Chinooks liked the Reaper Magnum spoons in silver blue, green and glow colors sold at http://www.badgertackle.com The Kings were 8-19 pounds. Some Lakers 5-7 pounds are coming on silver spoons with blue or green accent stripes. Our best speed was 2.1 mph. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Fished on Wednesday afternoon for 3 hours. The lake was 1-3 and the wind was out of the east. The best action was in 40-60 feet of water north of Milwaukee from the north gap to Atwater Beach. The lake is 46 degrees and all our fish came on the surface to 35 feet down. Lots of bait fish around. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 25 to 35 feet down. Slide Divers are also producing very well set to #1 with 20 feet of line out. We had some fish on downriggers but the majority of fish came in the top 15 feet on Slide Divers and Yellow Birds. The way I set up a planer board is with 20 lb. mono to a 1/4-ounce bead chain sinker. Use 8 feet of 18 lb. Seaguar Fluoro Premier fluorocarbon leader from the sinker to a size #1 Cross Lock snap and lure. We had action on orange flashers green peanut flies tied at 11 inches long and small Rapala Shad Raps for Coho and Lake Trout. The Chinooks liked the Reaper Magnum spoons in silver blue, green and glow colors sold at http://www.badgertackle.com The Kings were 8-12 pounds, Lakers 5-7 pounds and Coho 3-4 pounds. Fish Report 5/11/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fished on Friday at first light. The lake was calm and wind out of the west. Boated a Brown Trout on a Vulcan Dolphin Glow in the harbor before all the lines were set. About 5:30 the wind switched to the northeast. With 15-25 mph winds in the anticipated we decided to work the harbor and gaps. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 58 degrees and the lake is 50. We have been fishing the temp breaks in front of the river mouth and harbor gaps marking fish at all depths. Lots of bait fish around. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 18 to 22 feet down. Slide Divers are producing very well set to #1 with 20 feet of line out. The fish have not been too particular. Most 3-4 inch spoons are taking fish. Finished with 10 fish all Browns 3-8 pounds. Some of our best producers Friday were Vulcan Silver, Vulcan Dolphin Glow, Reaper Big Joe sold at http://www.badgertackle.com Michigan Stinger Jawbreaker, Tourney Winner and most of their silver orange spoons. We ran tackle for Chinooks but did not find any. Our best speed was 2.4 mph. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Fish Report 5/2/2007 Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan
By Capt. Jim Hirt
April fishing continues very good. Most of our charter trips are catching limits on Browns with a few Rainbows, Lakers and Chinooks. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 52 degrees and the lake is 46. We have been fishing the temp breaks in front of the river mouth and harbor gaps marking fish at all depths. Lots of bait fish around. The south gap was very good due to the northwest wind pushing the warm harbor out the gap. Always consider the wind direction and where the best temp breaks are created from the movement of the water. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 20 to 25 feet down. Slide Divers are producing very well set to #1 with 20 feet of line out. The fish have not been too particular. Most 3-4 inch spoons are taking fish. Some of our best producers have been Vulcan Silver Sky, Nestor Wobblers Sun Burn Glow sold at http://www.badgertackle.com Michigan Stinger Jawbreaker, Tourney Winner and most of their silver orange spoons. There is also Lake Trout being caught in 40 to 80 feet of water north of Milwaukee I have no info on what presentation or how deep. Our best boat speed was 2.0 to 2.4 mph. For cold water keep your speed down. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. April fishing is very good. Most of our charter trips are catching limits on Browns and Chinooks. Clear skies with the wind out of the northeast at 5-10 mph have been the norm. Milwaukee Fishing Lake Michigan Wisconsin 10/4/2006
By Captain Jim Hirt
Milwaukee fall fishing has never been better. The west wind has moved the Alewives in from 160 feet to 50 feet and the temperature is 45 degrees at 30 feet down. All presentations are working. Spoons, flasher flies and plugs are all taking fish. The first light bite has been fantastic. Doubles and triples are common when the sun is just on the horizon. I start my morning with all glow spoons. Charge them up with bright light before you put them in. Charge them again every opportunity you have in all low light situations. Keep them bright for the hottest action. I have been running my Slide Divers on #4 early and going to a lower number after it gets brighter out. The lower the number the deeper they dive. Sixty feet of line out is a good place to start. The best glow spoons for me have been the Reaper Fish Fry, Green Fox or any of the Tiger Glows in the magnum size. The only place you can find them is at Badgertackle.com Downriggers 40 to 60 down have been the ticket once again with glow spoons. Later in the day on sunny days move to deeper water and fish 60 to 90 feet down with Vulcan Silver Plate, Silver Sky or any of the silver colors in the regular size. This 3-inch spoon is just the right size to match the Alewives look for them at Badgertackle.com
Four-year-old kings are also available. Most of the boats are reporting four to six of these big bruisers each trip. You will have to pick and peck at them. Try magnum spoons and #3 and #4 J-plugs. The big kings will be available until mid October with the quantities diminishing toward the end of October. For exciting action on the biggest fish of the year fish the warm water outside the break walls, in the harbor gaps and around the harbor. When the water is clear go with all silver, silver/green, silver/blue. In low light or cloudy stained water, run the glow in the dark spoons. Downriggers 15 to 30 down are the way to go. Run your corner downriggers at 12 to 22 feet with 60-foot leads and cover the deeper water with the remaining downriggers. The Slide Divers are taking a lot of fish with the large ring set to #2 and 50 foot leads at 37 feet of line out. I used 50-pound Power Pro on all my divers this year and it allowed for better hook sets and deeper running with less problems. Good Luck!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Fish Milwaukee Fishing Report 9/13/2006

By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin The four year old Chinooks are coming up the rivers. This year, if it is like most years, the peak of the run is mid September. Good fishing with near shore opportunities for all size boats is now! Look for exciting action on the biggest fish of the year in the warm water outside the break walls, in the harbor gaps and around the harbor. My first choice for tackle is the Vulcan magnum spoon. A close second and third choice are the Nestor Wobblers magnum size and size #4 J-plugs. When the water is clear go with all silver, silver/green, silver/blue. In low light or cloudy stained water, run the glow in the dark spoons. Vulcan and Nestor Wobblers you can get from Badgertackle.com J-plugs you can get anywhere.
If the two and three year old Chinooks are the way you want to go, look for the temp break to 50-degree water. The wind has been out of the East. When the wind blows east, go deep over 140 feet for fish. Reaper magnum Spoons, J-Plugs and Rotators with blue or green flies are steady producers. I like to run a mix of rotators and spoons. The rotators will attract the fish to your downrigger presentation. As always check the water temperature as the first thing you do. Find the 50-degree water and you will most likely find fish. If you fish at first light, you may find fish in the warm water above the temperature break to 50 degrees. When the water is above 50 degrees from top to bottom, continue to deeper water in search of colder water for two and three year old salmon. Action has been steady and predictable. All presentations are working early in the day. Downriggers are better later in the morning or mid day. Try Slide Divers set to #2 with 65 feet of Power Pro line out or conventional mono divers with 80 to 100 feet of line out for Rainbows. Temperature is the key. Find the break and work above and below it for salmon. If it's clear and calm, you may have to run long leads of 50-100 feet on the Slide Divers and downriggers. Good Luck!! Fishing Charters Milwaukee Report 9/4/2006
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin 9/4/2006. There are two different patterns for you to fish for salmon and trout out of Milwaukee. The 4 year old mature Chinook are entering the north and main break wall gaps. Big kings are always fun and you should be able to hook up with some of the fish in the 15-25 pound class working these areas with magnum spoons in silver, silver/blue, silver/green on the sunny days. For overcast days definitely go with glow in the dark. The magnum Reapers and Vulcans from Badgertackle.com have been our best producer. I usually start out with the glows and go to silver about 2 hours after sunrise. Another location where fishing has been excellent is out over 140 feet of water approximately 6 miles off shore. The temp you want to fish is 50 degrees and you must go near the bottom to find it. Depending on your boat speed you may need 150 to 170 feet of cable out on your downriggers to get there. Our best lure for them has been magnum spoons in silver/green, silver/blue or Glow in the dark. I like the Reapers or Vulcan magnums from badgertackle.com. Rotators and blue or green flies are also working. I like to run a mix of rotators and spoons. The rotators will attract the fish to your downrigger presentation. As always check the water temperature as the first thing you do. Find the 50 degree water and you will most likely find fish. If you fish at first light you may find fish in the warm water above the temperature break to 50 degrees. When the water is above 50 degrees from top to bottom continue to deeper water in search of colder water for salmon. The boater's that don't care to run 6 to 8 miles off shore I would consider working the warm water for some Brown Trout or Rainbow action. Look for them from 25 to 85 feet in the top 40 feet as they like the warm water. Action here has slowed as the water temperatures keep going up. Good Luck!! Fishing Charters Milwaukee Report 8/21/2006
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin 8/21/2006. The four year old Chinooks or King Salmon are about as large as they are going to get. We are now getting average Kings at about 20 pounds. Our best lure for them has been magnum spoons in silver/green, silver/blue or Glow in the dark. I like the Reapers or Vulcan magnums from badgertackle.com. Downriggers are the way to go. The wind has been moving the fish around A couple of days of west wind will move the warm water out and the fish come in to 50 to 60 feet of water. When the wind blows east go deep over 100 feet for fish. The boater's that don't care to run 6 to 8 miles off shore I would consider working the warm water for some great Brown Trout or Rainbow action. Look for them from 25 to 85 feet in the top 40 feet as they like the warm water. Action has been steady and predictable. All presentations are working early in the day and downriggers are better later in the morning or mid day. Try Slide Divers set to #2 with 65 feet of Power Pro line out or conventional mono divers with 80 to 100 feet of line out. Temperature is the key. Find the break and work above and below it for salmon. If it's clear and calm, you may have to run long leads of 50-100 feet on the Slide Divers and downriggers. Watch your speed! Kick up your speed to 2.4 to 2.7 for Rainbows and between 1.8 and 2.4 for Kings. The warm water Kings like a slower speed. Good Luck!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Charter Salmon Fishing Milwaukee 8/9/06
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Fishing is still excellent the east wind continues to move the warm water into Milwaukee and the cold water moves out. For most of the day this is has brought the cold water fish down to below 70 feet in 100 to 200 feet of water. The Chinooks are between 12 and 20 pounds. Coho are running up to 8 pounds. We have had good numbers on Rainbows 8-14 pounds look for them in the top 40 feet as they like the warm water in depths over 100 feet. Action has been steady and predictable. At first light look for the big Chinooks, Coho and Brown Trout in the top 40 feet in closer to shore. I think this will dry up as this area becomes too warm. All presentations are working. Try Slide Divers set to #2 with 65 feet of Power Pro line out or conventional mono divers with 80 to 100 feet of line out. Most magnum spoons in silver/green, silver/blue or Glow in the dark are working. I like the Reapers or Vulcan magnums. Downriggers are also good with spoons or rotators and blue or green flies. Run half cores of lead early with spoons. Later in the morning about 730 am follow the fish down and out to deeper water. I set up in 45 feet at first light and when action slows down I move to over 100 feet for Rainbows up top and Salmon at the temp break to 50 degrees. Temperature is the key. Find the break and work above and below it. Then work north and south in that depth. Fish on!! Charter Salmon Fishing Report Milwaukee 7/20/06
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The summer heat is on! Temperature gauge is the one tool you can't be without. The wind comes out of the west the warm water is pushed out of Milwaukee and the cold water replaces it. Wind out of the east warm water comes in and the fish move to deeper water. The fish are always following temperature and food. If you find temperature you will always catch some fish. When you are marking baitfish in the correct temps the action heats up. Most recently east wind has moved the action to 100 feet or more. Seventy feet down is the temp break to 50 degrees. This is a good place to start for Chinooks. All species are active with half the catch being Chinooks from 5-20 pounds. We have been catching a lot of Rainbows this year. These acrobats have been in the top fifty feet of water. Long lead spoons on downriggers, half cores of lead on Yellow Bird Big Birds are the best. Magnum Spoons by Michigan Stinger and Reapers by Badger Tackle have been doing the trick. Most of the silver with green, chartreuse or blue will keep the rods jumping. The best time for Rainbows is from 10 am to 5 pm in 80 to 150 feet of water. There has been a great first light bite on Chinooks in the warm water in 50 to 80 feet of depth 20 to 50 down on all presentations. This is by far the easiest time of the day to get into fish. As the sun rises they will move down and out follow them to continue producing. Glow spoons are a must. Most manufactures have them. The extended glow used by Badger Tackle and Michigan Stinger glow brighter longer. Charge them up with a flash and they will be good all morning. Later in morning the different types of rotators with green or blue flies are taking fish. Watch your speed! Kick up your speed to 2.4 to 2.7 for Rainbows and between 1.8 and 2.4 for Kings. Fish on!! Charter Fishing Report 7/8/2006 Milwaukee Wisconsin
By Capt. Jim Hirt

Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Rainbow trout, Chinooks and Coho have been active during the past week. The area and depth have been constant as the big pond settles into a summer pattern. The best water has been 80 to 150 feet with Rainbows coming on Slide Divers set to #3 with 80 feet of line out and 5 color lead core with small Vulcan #2 Silver Sky spoons. This is a midday bite between 10 am to 4 pm. This same tackle will take Coho early and Rainbows thru the day. You can also catch Chinook all thru the day but the best bite has been early and late in the day. Look for them in water below 50 degrees. The temp break to 50 degrees is at 70 feet. Fish for them from 70 to the bottom on downriggers. I find the best action about ten feet off the bottom. Magnum spoons like the #5 Monkey Puke and Fish n Chip Reapers along with most of the different types of rotators with green or blue flies are taking the big ones. Watch your speed, kick up your speed to 2.4 to 2.6 for Rainbows and between 1.8 and 2.4 for Kings. Have a blast! Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Charter Fishing Report 6/23/2006 Milwaukee Wisconsin
By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We have been out every day. The best action has been from 50 to 120 feet of water most anywhere out of Milwaukee. The area north in Whitefish Bay was the best last night and consistently produces all season. Coho have been in temps from 50 to 57. Lake Trout are in 50 degrees and colder and Chinooks have been active in 44 to 52. A must have is a temperature gauge that will tell you temp at the lure. Several types are available. There is one that is a thermometer you hang on your downrigger weight for about $10 that will give you a rough idea. A more expensive option is a cable unit with a counter that you stop the boat and let it down I used one of these for years. The top of the line is probe you attach in line in the downrigger cable. A product out in the market place for this purpose is the Depth Raider. This unit offers a probe that you connect to a special downrigger cable giving you speed and temp at the lure to depths of 200 feet. This information is sent to an easy to read display. The key any day on the water is temperature and baitfish. Find those two ingredients and your on fish. The Coho and Rainbows are mostly on #2 Vulcan spoons all of their silver colors are working for us. The big kings are on all styles of rotators with blue or green flies. Large #5 Reaper or magnum spoons in silver or glow are also good for kings. I have been running between 1.8 and 2.4. Enjoy our great resource. Let's go fishing!! Charter Fishing Report 6/5/2006

By Capt. Jim Hirt
Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin. East wind and clear skies has slowed the midday action. First light and the last light of the day are the best times to catch Coho on flashers and flies. The surface temperature has warmed up to 62 degrees and the fish are moving down. We’re taking a mixed bag of 80% Coho, 20% Chinooks and a few Browns and Lake Trout. There are a few fish on top with most of our action on downriggers 20-70 down in 50 to 120 feet of water. Look for the huge schools of baitfish for the best action. Peanut flies in green or purple are best for hammering the Coho tied 13 inches behind a 6 inch orange flasher. There are also Chinooks around between 10 and 12 pounds. Big spoons are working for the Chin's on downriggers presented from 25 feet to the bottom. The best spoon for us is the Vulcan #3 Fire Tiger or Monkey Puke glow at first or last light. Slide Divers are also producing fish 30-40 feet down with spoons or flasher flies. Salmon Fishing Report Milwaukee, Wisconsin 5/22/2006
By Capt. Jim Hirt
The last three days the fish have been jumping in the boat. Well almost, the action is great. Were taking a mixed bag of 80% Coho, 20% Chinooks and a few Browns and Lake Trout. The action is still in the top 35 feet of water outside the breakwall Milwaukee in 35-45 feet of water. Gobbly Wabbler peanut flies in green or purple are best for hammering the Coho tied 13 inches behind a 6 inch orange flasher. Most of the Coho are in the top five feet. The best presentation for us is Yellow Bird planer boards with a 40-foot lead. There is also some Huge Chinooks around between 10 and 18 pounds. Eighteen pounds is a not bad size for this early in the year. If this is an indication of the size of the four year olds it should be a very exciting season. Big spoons are working for the big boys on downriggers presented from 25 feet to the bottom. The best spoon for us is the Vulcan #3 Fire Tiger or Monkey Puke glow. Slide Divers are also producing fish 10-20 feet down with spoons or flasher flies. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Fishing Report Milwaukee 5/16/2006
By Capt. Jim Hirt
I have been out the last four days. We are catching more cohos than any other species. Cloudy days bring better action on silver spoons and sunny days bright orange or red are working. Usually my spring coho come on flasher flies, not this year. On most days I start out with a mix of flasher flies and spoons in a variety of colors. As I start producing fish, changes to the most active presentations are made. I am finding that at the current water temperatures of 44-48 degrees on cloudy days small spoons like the Vulcan #2 Silver Reaper, Silver Sky and Spring Green are out producing the flashers. The sunny days Michigan Stinger's Orange and Red Shanster, Orange and red Chip Shanster, have been best. Michigan Stingers with the needle sharp VMC hooks are almost 100% for fish on and fish in the cooler. The good news is the spoons are not as speed sensitive as the flashers. For those of you who do not do well with flashers try some small spoons. Downriggers down 15-30 feet, Slide Divers set on #4 with 40 feet of line out and Yellow Birds are the presentations I have been successful with. Action has been good where ever you find a temperature break. The harbor gaps and tight along the shoreline are all good places to try. The big kings are scattered. They like the bigger spoons such as the Vulcan #3 in most of the silver color patterns. Some of the boats have been out in deeper water, but the water inside of 45 feet has worked for us. The boat speed of 2.2-2.5 on the Depth Raider gave the best results. The contents of the fishes’ stomachs showed they were eating well. There are some 2-inch Alewives in the fish we caught. We also snagged some big ones on our lures. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. Charter Fishing Report Milwaukee! 4/20/2006
By Capt. Jim Hirt
April fishing is very good. Most of our charter trips are catching limits. Clear skies with the wind out of the northeast at 5-10 mph have been the norm. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 57 degrees. We have been fishing the temp breaks in front of the river mouth and harbor gaps marking fish at all depths. Our best presentations are Yellow Bird planer boards with 25 foot leads behind the boards and downriggers 8 to 15 feet down. The way I set up a planer board is with 20 lb. mono to a 1/4-ounce bead chain sinker. Use 8 feet of 18 lb. Seaguar Fluoro Premier fluorocarbon leader from the sinker to a size #1 Cross Lock snap and lure. The fish have not been too particular. Most small crankbaits, 3-4 inch spoons and J-Plugs are taking fish. Some of our best producers have been Vulcan Silver Sky #2, Fishlander Easter Egg and Koho Cracker #2 spoons. Depending on wind direction the north and south gaps are producing fish. Our bigger Chinooks have been caught at the north gap. The fish at the north gap came on small spoons. Silver blue spoons worked best for us running 60 feet behind the ball on downriggers 8-15 feet down. Our best boat speed was 2.4 mph. We ran dipsey divers but they did not produce a fish. Have a great fishing season. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. with Blue Max Charters. October fishing is good. The better fishing days have been overcast. If you are looking for two and three year old Chinooks, fish 30 to 50 feet of water. Most of the water out of Milwaukee is 53 degrees on top and the temperature break changes as you move. Fish the warmest water you can find. The harbor or the gaps in recent trips have been slow. I have had good catches of Chinook, Brown trout and Lake trout at the green can. The green can is located 2 miles east of the south gap. There are good schools of four inch Alewives at the can. My fish have come on three and four inch spoons in silver or glow in the dark colors. When the action at the green can slows, I have gone north to the water treatment plant about one mile north of the north gap. There has been good action in 30 to 50 feet of water both sides of the structure off of the water treatment plant. Also work north in 30 to 50 feet from the water treatment to Fox Point. I have caught most of my fish on Dipsy Divers, long lead spoons off the downriggers 10 to 20 down or on 3 to 5 color Leadcore. Smaller silver spoons are taking these fish all day long. The boat speed of 2.0-2.5 on the Depth Raider works well with all the presentations I have been using. Good Luck let's go fishing Captain Jim. Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. Late September fishing is great. If you are looking for two and three year old Chinooks, temperature is key to success. East wind, west wind the location changes daily. Look for 52-degree water. There are a Lot of 2,3 and 4-year-old Chinooks around. At this point most of the 2 and 3 year olds are in 60 foot or deeper water 60 to 80 down. Most of the big boys are coming on long lead spoons 80 feet behind the ball. Try glow spoons early in the morning. Go to silver with blue or green accent stripes after sunrise. Brown trout fishing is very good with lots of big browns this year. Smaller silver spoons are taking these fish all day long. We are also catching fish out of temp in warmer water than you would expect. The harbor and forty to fifty feet of water holds 4 year old Chinooks, mature Coho and Brown trout in all sizes. Long lead spoons in silver or glow in the dark watermelon is working. The dipsy divers set to 2 with 50 to 70 feet of line out is also working. Half core lead is taking Rainbows in 150 feet of water mostly on spoons. We have been setting up in 40 feet of water and fishing out to 100 and back to 40 enjoying steady action on morning and afternoon trips. Brown trout are active early in the day working 20 to 40 feet of water mostly on glow spoons. There are a few Lakers on the bottom in 100 to 200 feet of water on Opti-Dodgers and flies. The boat speed of 2.4-2.8 on the Depth Raider works well with all the presentations I have been using. Slow down to 2.0 or less for Lakers. Run a speed of 3.0 to for Rainbows. Good Luck let's go fishing Captain Jim!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. With Blue Max Charters He can be reached at 414-828-1094 or visit his web site at http://www.bluemaxcharters.com

August fishing is fantastic. Our numbers of fish per trip have been great. Most of our catch has been 3 or 4 year old Chinooks. Lots of alewives around and the chins will hit almost anything offered. Within the last several days we have caught mostly Chinooks from 5 to 23 pounds. The spoons have been the best. Fishlander ultra glow spoons size 2 or 3 in the easter egg or bloody nose color are taking most of our fish. Try silver spoons with green or blue accent stripes on the cloudy days. All presentations are working. Half core lead, downriggers 15 to the bottom in 40 to 70 feet of water and Dipsy divers set on 2 with 70 to 100 feet of line out. The cold water is into Milwaukee. We have been setting up in 40 feet of water and fishing out to 70 and back to 40 enjoying steady action on morning and afternoon trips. Brown trout are active early in the day working 20 to 40 feet of water mostly on glow spoons. There are a few Lakers on the bottom in 100 to 200 feet of water on Opti-Dodgers and flies. The boat speed of 2.4-2.8 G.P.S. works well with all the presentations I have been using. Slow down to 2.0 or less for Lakers. Run a speed of 3.0 to 3.2 for Rainbows. . Good Luck Captain Jim. June continues to be very good fishing. All species are active. The surface temp changes daily from 66 to 58 degrees. For Coho we have had excellent action on boards, with Fishlander ultra glow spoons in a variety of sizes and colors. The best color pattern on spoons was easter egg green or blue glow. There are plenty of Rainbows in the top water and the bigger ones like the spoons. We are producing fish from 40 to 100 feet of water. There is a better concentration of fish in the top 50 feet. We have also caught fish down to 100 feet. Most of our deep fish have been on Opti-Dodgers or flasher flies. Within the last several weeks the big Chinooks have been very active with fish up to 22 pounds. We have also caught some smaller Brown Trout We are picking up the Chinooks on leadcore five colors and dipseys set to number 1 with 82 feet of line out. Inside of 80ft of water Fishlander Ultra glow spoons and flasher flies green with green flies, white with LLB have been the best. The boat speed of 2.3 -2.7 G.P.S. works well with all the presentations I have been using. . Good Luck Captain Jim. Let's go fishing!! Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin fish report

May fishing to this point has been great. The count on fish has been through the roof with very good action on Brown trout and some Chinooks and Rainbows. We have not seen any Coho yet, but we have not targeted them. The weather is improving and this should only make things better. The Brown trout have been in the 3-11 pound size with some larger Chinooks 8-12 pounds. Inside the harbor and along the outside of the break wall in 35-45 feet of water is where most of the fish were holding. Action came on planer boards, dipseys and downriggers. All presentations were working. We worked the surface down to the bottom. 22 feet to the surface was best. Most of our fish came on Fishlander ultra glow spoons in a variety of sizes and colors. The best color pattern was easter egg green glow. We also had good action on small white blade spoons with orange and yellow stripes. The boat speed of 2.0-2.4 G.P.S gave the best results. The contents of the fishes stomachs showed they were eating well, all different sizes of alewives were present. Good luck Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. Wednesday the 27th and Thursday the 28th we had good to above average numbers mostly on Brown trout in the 3-9 pound size with some larger Chinooks 8-12 pounds. Inside the harbor and along the outside of the break walls in 35-45 feet of water is where most of the fish were holding. Action came on planer boards, dipseys and downriggers. All presentations were working. We worked the surface down to 32 feet. I ran a mix of crankbaits, flasher flies and spoons. Most of our fish came on green and white spoons in a variety of sizes. The slower boat speed of 2.0-2.2 G.P.S gave the best results. The contents of the fishes stomachs showed they were eating well, all different sizes of alewives were present. The Blue Max our boat is in and we have been fishing for two weeks. The wind has been out of the east most of the time. The lake has warmed up by two degrees over this time period. The fishing has been consistently good. We are producing nice catches of Brown trout, Chinooks and some Rainbows. Our best lures have been small spoons silver or white blade with green or blue stripes and crankbaits in most colors. Fishing the temp breaks along the shoreline, river mouths and harbor gaps has been working. I have mixed presentation with planer boards, shallow dipsey divers and long lines off the downriggers 5 to 25 feet down. The water flowing into the Milwaukee harbor is 58 degrees. Fish the harbor gap with the warmest water coming out. When the wind is out of the north, fish the south gap or southern shorelines where the warm water flows out or stacks up. When the wind is out of the south do the opposite. Run your lures in and out of the temp breaks for the best action. Lake Michigan
Milwaukee

By Capt. Jim Hirt
April 10th. We left the dock at 2pm. Skies were clear the wind was out of the northeast 5-10 mph. Out of Milwaukee we have had east wind for the last 5 days. The water flowing into Milwaukee harbor is 58 degrees. We fished the temp break in front of the river mouth and marked fish at all depths. Our first fish was a 3-pound Brown. It came on a planer board with a small orange shad rap, we call Coho candy, with a 1/4-ounce bead chain sinker running 8 feet ahead of the lure. We picked up two more fish on this presentation and decided to try somewhere else. The main gap was loaded with perch fisherman anchored so we went to the north gap. As we moved to the north end the harbor, the water temp went from 55 to 46 degrees. The fish at the north gap came on small spoons. Silver green worked best for us running 60 feet behind the ball on downriggers 8-15 feet down. Our best boat speed was 2.2 mph. We ran dipsey divers but they did not produce a fish. The fishing was a little slow. We were back to the dock at 530pm with all Brown trout 3-5 pounds each. Good luck, Jim charters out of Milwaukee, WI. Subject: Walleye Fishing - April 19, 2003

Sturgeon Bay is ice free and water temps are about 37 degrees. The walleye fishing has started off strong and I am expecting solid walleye fishing well past Memorial Day this season. The windswept shorelines produced the best action for us. Flatlines worked with Huskies, Smithwicks, and Thundersticks working equally well. The most important factor was speed. A slow presentation in 12 to 20 feet of water produced our heaviest fish at 9.4 pounds (only 27 inches) our smallest fish was a 5.4 pound male. Please practice catch-n-release and be careful; with water levels are at least 1 foot lower than last year and many of the areas that were once okay are now too shallow.

Sincerely,

Capt. Scott Gutschow

Subject: Spring Fishing - April 4, 2003

Well the 2003 fishing season is here! The shipping canal is "ice free" and we will be walleye fishing this week! I am rigging our new Lund boat with some new equipment including Lowrance X-19's (color). We will also be using ABU Garcia's new Abbu-troll reels. These reels have digital line counter that can be programmed to provide an alarm when you reach the correct amount of line. This should make our evening walleye fishing easier and more effective.

E-mail us soon if you are interested in fishing this season... scott@reelactioncharters.com

Subject: 2002 Fishing Season

February, 2002

Fellow Anglers,

Greetings from beautiful Door County! We hope this letter finds you healthy and enjoying the remaining weeks of a record breaking warm winter. Last year was truly a fantastic fishing season and Danny, Erin and I would like to thank you for giving us the opportunity to share it with you. The June fishing for steelhead was tough at best; however, a fantastic July and August, truly made up for it. Once again the fishing stayed strong on Lake Michigan into early October. The best fall fishing in a long time. Our early spring, bass and walleye fishing were also first rate. We had consistent water temperatures, which provided solid catches of walleye with many tipping the scales over 10 lbs. and our biggest just shy of 12. Line burning king salmon, pre-spawn bronzebacks and double-digit walleyes are in my thoughts as I prepare for the 2002-fishing season.

As you know during the off-season we spend time making improvements to the “Reel Action”. This year she will boast a new interior (carpet, upholstery) and a ST5000 Autopilot. With the ability to steer herself she is close to perfect. Our 2002 Lund for walleye and bass charters is on its way. We ordered a 2025 this season. This boat is a bit bigger with dual counsels. It will be rigged and ready in plenty of time to follow out the last of the floating ice on the bay in search of trophy walleye and bass.

With an extremely warm winter both Green Bay and Lake Michigan are nearly ice-free. I expect to see great early fishing due to warmer than normal spring water temperatures. Our 2002 rates have stayed the same. As long as fuel prices don’t go up! Call us today to book your 2002 fishing charters so that we can accommodate your needs! We are already booking for the spring and summer.

You can reach us on the web at www.reelactioncharters.com, email us at scott@reelactioncharters.com or phone us at (920) 360-2136. Please send all correspondence to our new permanent home in Door County: 1802 Morning View Rd., Brussels, WI 54204. We look forward to hearing from you and being a part of your fishing experiences this year!

Sincerely,

Scott G. Gutschow

Subject: Charter Fishing In 2002

After a great season of trout and salmon fishing off the port of Sheboygan aboard the Dumper Dan boats, people are starting to make there 2002 charter fishing reservations. This is a good time for you to look over your schedule and over the holidays talk with family and friends about the upcoming summer vacation plans. We will be adding another 28' Baha Cruisers Sportfishing boat to our fleet to make a total of (3) boats. This should help in booking clients that we had to turn down last season because we were filled up during certain times of the year. Information, reservations and prices can be viewed at www.fishdumperdancharters.com or call 920-457-2940 for a brochure. We will see you in 2002...

Subject: Sheboygan Trout & Salmon Fishing

If your looking for updated fishing reports for the Sheboygan area on Lake Michigan, you can check out our fishing reports board at: http://www.fishdumperdancharters.com

The Trout and Salmon fishing off Sheboygan has improved greatly in the past two weeks with good catches of a variety of fish including Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Coho Salmon, and King Salmon. Depths of 140 to 240 feet of water has been the area to try for these feeding fish which off Sheboygan is only 3 to 5 miles out. Look for action to only improve as the water slowly warms up. Good luck fishing and we will see you on the water! ( Dumper Dan I & II )

Subject: Fish report from Kenosha, WI.

Note: Updated (17 September). The spawning fish are in the shallow waters and close to shore. Other fish are scattered through out deeper water. We have warm deep water temperatures, cool temperatures in the shallows and abundant forage within our fishing grounds.
Best deep water fishing has been scattered from 55ft. out to 280ft. of water. We are currently catching Coho & some King Salmon mixed with Rainbows and an occasional Laker in the deeper waters, with good mature King Salmon & Brown Trout action in shallow (shoreline). Best producing combinations are Spoons and dodger/fly  lures in deep water, spoons & body type lures in shallow. The King Salmon are showing up in the 17-27 pound range, Coho in the 8-12 pound range!
I'll update this page when ever possible. Come have some fun fishing!  There are only a few week of good fishing left before the end of this season.
As always, I hope this report is benificial to everyone. I'll keep it updated as time permits, but the end of this season is near!!!

Subject: Fishing Report from Kenosha, WI.

(24 August) Fishing is a bit slower paced than it was earlier, but the fish are much larger!  We have exceptionally warm water temperatures through out our fishing area and still have abundant forage within our fishing grounds. Look for the Salmon to move close to shore as soon as the water cools or within the next week. Best fishing has been scattered from 65ft. out to 180 ft. of water. ( 3.5 / 5.5 miles out)We are currently catching Coho & King Salmon mixed with Rainbows and an occasional Laker in the deeper waters, with good Brown fishing in shallower. Spoons and dodger/fly combinations are the best producing lures along with some body lures. The King Salmon are showing up in the 17-27 pound range, Coho in the 8-12 pound range! The larger silver dodgers with a green fly has been the "stud", but other good producers have been the white dodger with a white fly and a yellow dodger / aqua fly. Hammered silver spoons and spoons with some green have been good producers also. The Browns and Rainbows are hitting the brighter, mixed colored spoons. Most of the fish are caught on the deeper riggs, 60 thru 120 feet down.
I hope this report will be beneficial to all fishermen. I'll keep it updated as time permits.

Subject: Fishing out of Baileys Harbor, WI

Fishing out of Baileys Harbor, WI has been wonderful this season..
More large Salmon have been caught this year than we have seen for the past couple of years..
Good catches of Steelhead, and Lakers too, and the best news of all is that they have been taken about 2 miles outside of the bell buoy.
Of course the bad news is sometimes the fish are stuck and the customers can't land them, we call that the Captains fish, "all of the fun and none of the mess" :)
Favorite lures remain pretty constant, the hammered silver "Mauler" is a top producer, along with the dreaded "Finn" Spoon.
This year more than ever we have seen good action for big kings and rainbows on the Howie Fly behind a "Abe and Al" dodger.
I am happy to submit this report,

Warm personal regards,
