Pranab, To answer your quesdtion, Do you use a casting outfit or a spinning outfit? In windy days a spinning outfit is better than a casting although you dont get much distance with spinning rather than casting. Also, casting a long the wind or not ...debends on what are you trying to catch. Normally the wind is your friend if you want distance, so cast with the wind direction. You need to give more details about what are you using as lures, bottom or surface ? what type of fishing are you following ? Thanks |

TO ALL OLD MEMBERS , COULD ANY ONE HELP ABOUT THIS . I HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT CASTING AGAINST THE WIND IS ALWAYS DIFFICULT SO ITS WISE TO CAST ALONG WITH THE WIND DIRECTION . MY QUESTION IS , DOES CASTING ALONG WITH THE WIND DIRECTION INCREASES YOU CHANCES OF GETTING A FISH BITE ON UR HOOK . I MOSTLY CAST FROM STONES NEAR THE SEA SIDES . MY NEXT QUESTION , IS IT WISE TO CASTE OUTSIDE THE STONE IN THE OPEN SEA OR TO CASTE INSIDE THE STONE ENCLOSER WHERE IT FORMS A ENCLOUSER . WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF SOME OF THE EXPERIENCED ANGLERS HELP ME OUT ON THIS . MR JEEN , HEBER ,MICHEL RALPH , AMIR , BIJU HEY PLEASE HELP ME OUT ON THIS ONE PLS REGARDS |

Hi , Today i dont have any fishing buddy to go with me to the beach for nightfishing so just thought to write what i am learing since past weeks. WHEN TO GO FOR FISHING Generally, any time you can. Fish feed all the time. but if you'd like to better your odds of having a successful shore fishing trip, right before or after a change in air pressure is ideal (before or after it rains is a great time to head out to the water). I know a lot of older fishermen who swear by the moon phases. 3 days before, during, and 3 days after a new moon. Others say 3 days before, during, and 3 days after a full moon. Fish are usually easier to catch at low light periods. From dawn to 3 hours after, and 3 hours before till dusk are great fishing times. Night fishing is also a blast, but make sure you have a flashlight or headlamp. Also check the fire regulations if you plan on building a fire. Never, ever leave a fishing spot until you are sure the entire fire is out. Too much of our natural resources burn every year because someone "thought they put the fire out", or they "thought it would burn itself out". Don't take the chance. It only takes a few extra minutes to put it out right, but a generation to bring it back. Cloudy days, with a lite breeze offer a great chance to catch fish all day. They are usually active most of the day feeding, or just moving around. Clear calm days without a ripple on the water will produce fish, but the amount of fish may not be as good as when there are some ripples on the water. If the water your fishing in is murky or dark, use darker baits or hooks. If you are fishing in clear water, you'll probably do better with a bright colored lure. General rule of thumb: clear sunny days-use brighter, colorful, shiny bait; dark overcast days - use dull, darker colored bait. But rules of thumb are just a starting point, nobody said you have to stick to them. REGARDS |

Hi guys , Just wanted to share a few things tht i learned in the past few weeks . BAITS TO USE : SARDINE ,GAFF FISH , SQUID , LIVE PRAWN, ATTA WITH DRIED DRIED PRAWN (AVAIL ABLE IN 3 DHS PACKED IN KERALITE GROCERY STORES ) THE LAST ITEM ONLY FOR SMALL FISHES NEAR ROCKS NOT MEANT FOR LONG CAST AREAS. BESIDES THIS IN GENERAL : The more natural the bait the better. I've found night crawlers (big worms) and minnows (small fish) work fine most of the time. Whatever natural bait is avaiable on a specific body of water will produce fish. Sometimes the fish are not activley feeding. These times call for lures that will cause the fish to "strike" just out of instinct. Some flashy lures (spoons, jigs, spinner baits, and crank baits) are designed to make fish bite even when they're not feeding, due to sound, motion, and color. Every tackle box I own will always have various size jigs and soft plastic worms in them. They are a good standard when nothing else seems to work. I've seen a number of different species caught on different colored jig heads matched with different colored plastic worms. |

Hi Guys, I see a lot of excitement into most of you all!! Really happy to see the same, well I am not a pro, but I could answer a lot of your questions. So let’s start!! Fishing Spots: Dubai :- One of the best place a) Dubai Creek - But hold on guys with no license, be careful, very regular checks. But, Dubai overall be careful without license, I have encountered checks all locations. Let’s get back to Dubai Creek, at this place, your hooks / weights would never be stuck in water and you could expect all kinds of fish, from Barracuda, Cat fish, Hamoor (Not often), Sheri, etc. Maktoum / Gharoud bridge: - These two are good places, however it’s a continuation of Dubai Creek, and hence the same ground. Jadaff: - Very exciting place, but you would encounter too many ropes from small boats and now a lot of construction!! But due to water being deep to shallow, you could expect some really healthy catch, as they come in search of small fishes. Other locations: - Behind Hayat regency, Jumeirah (Not very exciting), Mumzar, Other Emirates: - Fujairah / RAK / AUH (Excellent place), Shj & Ajman not much exciting for “BIG GAME” Dibba: - Open to ocean, attracts all kinds of fish, especially deep sea fishes. (You would not go empty hand, unless nature challenges you!!!) Baits: - Very tricky to say, the best bait, also because, it depends which fish and what size are you interested into!! However, fresh shrimps are very good for attracting a large variety of fishes. Go for bottom feeders and squids act good! Go for Hamoor and sardines are best! Sardines are also good for various other kinds of fishes; however the drawback is that the body does not remain stiff in water and is easily eaten by small fishes. The best way to use Sardines other than for Hamoor is to freshly buy them, salt them and soak in the newspaper and dry for a half a day, now they are stiff and would hold on for other kinds of fish!! Hooks / Rods / Weights: Very very difficult to identify, since this is entirely dependent on the size of fish intended and the water conditions you would be catching in!! As a novice, go for the hook size # 10 and weight size # 3, and the line # 0.5, this would serve most of your basic needs with small to medium fishes and different water conditions. Wow, a bit exhausted, would go for now!! Please do let me know, if this information, was somehow useful to you guys? |

Hey guys, After finally heading out to various spots, I got a pretty decent "singra" as they call it in Pakistan. Hey Ali Reza, I would rather use Fresh prawns for fishing if you would want to catch some good & big edible fish. Hey Parandbas, Ive not tried it myself but Ive heard theres a good spot somewhere near Jumeirah Marina, plus fishing below the Maktoom Bridge is pretty good too, though its a very very patient spot. |

Hi guys, Faraz here, Im new to this forum so I'm gonna try me best to be regular. I'm practically new to fishing aswell in a professional manner, I just picked a beginners rod so I was hoping to get some help here. I usually fish off the Bur-Dubai corniche at late nights but havent caught anything interesting. The last time I went fishing was about 4 years ago at the same spot using a Coke can,a reel,a weight and some hooks. Ive always used shrimp and cut-prawns as bait and used to catch decent "sherry" fish with this stuff. I really want to get into this sport and need to learn alot. So any kinda tips are more than welcome. Cheers, Faraz. |

Hi David, there are many places to find equipment. I get most of my stuff from a little shop across the jumeirah beach centre (beach road) next to the pet shop. Their prices are reasonable. It saves me the trip to go into town (Deira) as the traffic is a killer. If you want bait you can buy it at carefour, spinneys or choitram shops (sardines, squid, etc) or cheaper at the fish market next to the creek underpass. I know you coming for a vacation, but don't forget that you need a fishing license to fish from the surf in Dubai. |

Biju, great catch!! I am sure you would agree with me that "Most of such incidents happen through accident" and one learns a great deal from them. However, these catches encourage you to go more in depth of learning and creating your own fishing world!! All the best mate, sometime we could join together. Walid, Fishing is not about teaching, it’s about learning. Walid, for your information, in UAE, I have hardly come across spots which are not good for fishing, you need to learn the area well including the habitat of the fishes to catch the desired fish Once you learn the habitat, you learn the different ways of attracting these fishes. To learn the methods of fishing you could also buy the fishing encyclopedia available at most book stores, but would that help without the effort of being there? We all create our own new ways of getting across the desired fish; you need to be persistent and very observant of the water world around you!! All the best to you too mate and let’s see if we all could join sometimes |

Unexpected catch! A resonable Baracuda. I was trying to catch some Bream at the sharjah with Shrimp Bait. I had two rods. both having same tackle & Bait. 33lb main line. Dropper rig with 2 hooks on .5mm leader and 1.5ounce sinker. I got a small bite on one of the line and i gave a small jerk to set the hook. I could feel a small one hooked. By the time I got a big bite on the other rod and I left the previous rod which had a small fish and rushed to the big bite. I hurried and the hook was not set. finally No fish! Then I came to the first rod and was reelling in the hooked fish. All of a sudden my rod arched like a half circle and my reel started screaming on the drag. I know it was big. It took almost 100m of line out of the reel and gradually slowed down. I started pumping in. and in next 10 minuts it came almost 5m close to the pier where I was fishing. I saw him. A cool 1.25m long Baracuda!!. I was not having a Gaff and lifting him out from 2m hieght will result in breaking my rod or line. I decided to land him in the near by beach. I started moving towards the beach but has to pass through about 12 people fishing between me and beach, on the pier. It took me about 15mts to pass under the other lines. All angelers on the pier cooperated me by lifting their rods and giving me enough room to pass underneth. During this exercise our Cuda game me several small runs.I finally landed him safe in the beach. Now the real fact - He has gobbled the samll fish that was on my line and my other hook got set into near his dorsal fin. That is how a 6.5kg Baracuda came up on a mono! It was shear luck to catch a good size baracuda without wire leaders!! Please see the picture I took on my phone. Happy fishing to all! - Biju |

Hi Rami!! I would completely agree with you on this one, and I believe, the polciy of "Catch & Release" should be followed by all, unless it is kept on the table. Apparently, I have got a team, who specialize in cooking all kinds of fish, sharks, eel, catfish, etc. However, did not get the correct recipie for Ray! If anybody knows the same please do share. By the way, check out the one of the catches at Fujairah!! |

Nice catch Amir, I see you are using a Gaff to hold the fish. That's really a nice fish ...but did you catch it for fun or consumption? If we're not fishing to put fish on the table, we need to ensure the proper release of the catch unharmed so we can enjoy the sport for many generations to come. Good luck |

Hi Waleed, If you go through all the postings, you would see the rules and regulations. However, you need to have a fishing lisence from Dubai Municipality located in Deira. There are a lot of fishing spot and you can find many shops at various locations in Duabi, Sharjah and Ajman for the fishing grear!! Till you do not have the lisence, go to Sharjah / Ajman / Fujairah / Ras Al Khaima or Umm Al Qwain for fishing, or it could be trouble!! Take care and share the pics if you get a handsome catch |

Nice catch Abdz, it's called yellow pearch i think and it's fine eating too. There's still lot's of fun in fresh water fishing .....the Muskies, Northen Pike and Wallaeyes. some of these fish will fight hard. as i recall now is the season for the wallaeyes, you can jigg them with live or plastics. and never foreget the famous Catfish ...you can still catch them on the bottom with a shrimp or cut bait. Good luck |

Hi Andy, Could be a problem with your computer. The Dubai Municipality site works fine and here's the link again: www.dm.gov.ae Guess you've read the procedures and documents required to get a licence. Will be glad to help you out if you need any clarification. Cheers. Heber |

Thanks Jeen As soon as I get a licence sorted (which I suspect may take some time) I'll take you up on that kind offer. Heber, If you can help with the licence I'll be most grateful. I saw a previous posting from you regarding this but cannot access the DM webite that you gave a link for. Is this just a problem with my computer? Thanks again Andy |

Hi Guys I'm sure you've heard all this a hundred times before but I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. I've just arrived in Dubai (springs) from the UK for a 3 year stint and need to get some fishing sorted before I go mad. Been a carp fishing fanatic for years and would like to substitute it with some fun saltwater sport fishing. I've read through the archives and got some useful info but would like an update on the latest position regarding licences as I can't access the local government website. Also, can anyone reccomend any good local tackle shops where I might get some advice, and for the future, are there charter boat services that cater for locals more than tourists. Thanks in advance and hope to be contributing rather than begging in the future. My email is ruffell.andy@gmail.com. |

Hi guys, I've got a fishing trip going out this coming saturday the 28th October, I've got space for 2 more people, the cost of the boat is 900 for the day, so the cost will be split between everyone, I've got 1 person already, so if I can get 2 more it would be 300 dhs per person, I will include refreshments, snacks, bait etc. I dont have any trolling gear, so if you have your own, bring it along, all I have is bottom fishing lines that I can supply. The plan is to meet in dibba harbour early in the morning, go up the musandam peninsula as far as we can, the boat will be rented out till 6pm. If your interested, please call me on 050 7408266 I'm not doing this for financial gain, just want to get out for some fishing. Best Regards Mike Ralph |

Hi all! I have read all the postings so far and I am now fairly "up to speed" with what is happening. Although I have been in Dubai for over 2 years I have not gone fishing once. To be very honest, I know absolutely nothing about salt water fishing, but have always been a fresh water fishing fanatic (Carp, Pike, etc). Reading all these messages I am really motivated to pick up the rods again (Ditch golf....too bloody expensive!!), but I have no idea where to start....tackle, locations, etc. If anybody is going out in the not too distant future and has room for me to tag along let me know. Hopefully this will give a good introduction and starting point to kit myself out with the right stuff. Or if anybody could suggest a good tackle/dive shop that could offer sound advice that would also be great. |

Shanul Haq, You are absolutely right, already Aziz Agha is already promoting fishing here and I agree with your opinion it is not a shame, shame is that people doing fraud sending email from all over the world buy this or sell this, as you know and I have lost alot of money sending them cheques to buy their online programmes and to get the job and workin online sitting home I can show you proof, those people should be a shame they are doing fraud, like people who are blaming me to begging I just want to get an I dea and I got the point all over the world people doing fraud ok my dear I dont ask for this but you must know that begging is not fraud. I dont need any money I like Aziz Agha who is doing alot for fishing, you must know that those people who are sending email they are cunning & claver people and making money form the other innocent people. thanks alot. |

Imran, I am from Pakistan and have fished a lot in Karach for consecutive years near Churna island, light house, talar and the continental shelf (Kaddha). You don't need to promote fishing their as I know for a fact the waters are over fished and there is a very large forum of anglers. Plus there are people who are already promoting fishing like Aziz agha and others who conduct regular fishing tournaments. I have a lot friends back home who are crazy about fishing and get constant report. I think Jeen is absolutely right!! Don't try your con tricks here and use your country men's name and put us to shame. |

Imran, This is the strangest post i have seen on any Angling forum !!. If you want to promote fishing in your country try to talk to your national tourisim dept and aproach your local bankers with a viable project and they will finance you. This is normally what is done in every country. Begging on the net is a first to me .Please dont do it and put your country men to shame. Tight lines Jeen |

Hey Mike, The Bass pro shop is awesome, was in Florida in June and looked in at their "little shop". Man what a place ! Seeing in this case is still not believing ! I think you can get lost in there for days without you or the staff knowing it. (About the size of Carrefour in Deira!) You could also try www.tackledirect.com and for fly fishing stuff no one better than www.kman.com . For shipping from the States or Uk try www.aramex.com you can set up a mailbox in London and NY for 35$ and get your tackle delivered to your door and pay for the shipping here on arrival! Hope it helps! |

Hi Rami, Mostly we're going for trolling, got quite a few big wrecks around teeming with barracuda, cobia and kingfish. Found a nice big new shipwreck on friday, the deck is in 25metre of water and the bottom is in 38 metres, didnt fish there but diving was awesome, millions of barracuda all round the wreck, saw a couple huge kingfish above the wreck and schools of amberjack and trevally on the deck. Hopefully will be going there on friday or saturday to try and catch some. Also got co-ordinates of another wreck but havnt been able to explore that one yet, maybe tomorow. mike |
