Hello again, May I start by thanking you Ijlal for your respected comments. I can tell you now that although I started the forum I am not one to be wanting the reigns. I would love to hand it over to somebody else to decide how it is run. That is the main reason i put a Comments & Suggestion area in so people can do just that Comment & Suggest on how it is run :-) Trust me ..... Yes I do want it to succeed and I also love a bit a of banter (like these mails) after all it is in the human spirit to have a battle every now and then. And if you also read my comments earlier then you will realise that I didn't say Jess was crap I said his comments were crap ..... big difference. Sorry Jess if you thought I was saying this I wasn't. Anyway I have had enough of this banter, good though it was :-) I want to talk about fishing :-) The weather is due to clear by the weekend although there will be early morning fog according to the reports. I am hopefully going out but not too sure just yet?? I want to catch fish as up to now it has been a very lean season indeed. But according to what I have read it isn't the first time and it won't be the last. So I hope everybody has a fruitful weekend but I think the shoreline guys are going to struggle a bit as all the rain will have silted up the coast a bit and pushed the fish into deeper waters. But good luck all the same. Speak to you all again soon and ..... Tight Lines, Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.com |

Take it easy guys!!! You know this has been a feature of this forum all along that has pissed me off more than anything else. I can tolerate some mean remarks about myself as I can always fight back ...as I did with Kit when he had become overly arrogant, but what do I do when people fail to understand simple plain English? Why people start taking everything personally is beyond my comprehension. It seems everybody has a fixation on Angler13! C'mon guys he's gone, so let him go! Why does everybody have to equate as follows: Angler13=Angler14=Jess What nonsense! Angler14 is a member of this forum and so is Jess, albeit a bit naughty. They do contribute to the forum though occasionally. Should we rather not encourage them to write more often and share their knowledge with all of us instead of playing the naming game? All are welcome here, even Angler13 should he wish to. Kit and all the others who have left are also welcome, and who can stop them anyway? If the sole purpose of some of you in becoming a member is to learn, then I advise you to do a search on Google.com. you'll be surprised what treasures a single word can unearth! Of course learning does take place, but as a by-product, just as we learn when we interact with others in our daily lives. Forums are what they are: Community halls in cyberspace. One joins a forum to cater to one's basic human need, i.e. to be part of a community, to be recognized. Of course, as they say "Birds of a feather, flock together." So when we are all fishermen, we will naturally talk fishing most of the time. One cannot, however, force another to write what one likes. The more important thing to consider is this: We are evolving as a community but are still in our infancy. At such an early stage and with such meagre membership, I would say we have done jolly good so far. Ian, I will address you frankly and hope you will take it as a grown up rather than taking it as an attack on your person and responding negatively. Jess and I were having a little friendly brawl and you all start showing your concerns. You did clarify Chua is Tacklebloke, which is what was required, but to go all the way and tell Jess is crap! For heaven's sake grow up, all of you! The only crap I have seen on this forum is the attitude of some people trying to belittle others. Okay Jess has done it at times, but so have you, so what's the difference between you two? I wrote we should all be on one forum and did mention yours as an option too, didn't I? I also wrote I wouldn't like to be under your stick, and you vindicated me by giving a small display of just that! Now this is what I meant: If you are going to come up and tell somebody he is crap every now and then, that person can tell you to FCUK OFF without having to fear anything on this forum. The same situation can occur on your forum too, but with different repercussions; a person who helped you establish your forum by joining and contributing in the early stages, may be banished by you down the years depending on your likes and dislikes. If you are to play host, then you will have to act more maturely. Another habit you need to watch is your regularly reminding us your forum is free and you have put in a lot of time and effort for which you are not paid. What the heck! Did any of us beg you to do so? You did what you did for your own satisfaction and you know what, down the years, when your forum is up and thriving, you could even get some of the tackle companies to post their ads on it and earn real money. Do keep in mind you owe your success to your members, so watch out for that attitude buddy! So Ian, this is it. I have been blunt but positive, and hope you take it the same way. I have no personal reason to antagonize or oppose you. Your forum does provide a host of good features we miss on this one, so please accept my congratulations on a job well done. In fact I was also planning along the same lines but being a lazy sort of a person, you beat me to it. Now that you have done the good work, there is no need for me to create another one, so be assured of all my support. I shall now be joining the forum and hope others will follow suit. I have no expectations from you but the only thing I do not expect is a lousy attitude. Thank you all for going through this lengthy speech! Take care, Ijlal |

Ijlal - I am not trying to be king or ruler or whatever, when have I tried to rule with a stick? I will leave that up to the other pricks in the world. Like the one who caused traffic havoc on the roads yesterday.... nice one Mr. BULLS**T. I started the other forum as, like I said before, after trolling through pages & pages & pages & pages of crap and finding very little help. I decided I wanted something extra, somewhere I can find info easily, section stuff off, i.e. reports, advice, q&a's and even a general chat area (for the crap) which trust me I do write from time to time lol. It didn’t exist so I invented it!!!! If you are too narrow minded to realise that I am trying to bring all the info together for US, the fishermen of the UAE & Oman.... and that does include YOU ... then that’s up to you. Do you think I do all of this for me.... yes I do ... but I also want to share it back. You can say what you like about me I don't care.... but just remember I am doing all of this for free... ok I have got a company to pay the monthly website costs but hell I don't get paid for the time I put into the website or the forum. Anyway there is more than enough room in this world for two fishing forums on the UAE but I was only trying to collate it all... to help everybody learn. Jess - Its people like you that fill this forum full of the crap I mentioned earlier. I have spoken to Chua (aka Tacklebloke) on numerous occasions over the last couple of weeks and he has helped me tremendously in getting stuff for both the website / forum together and yes he is one person. You say your 29? Well start acting like it ok. Its people like you (oh could you be angler 13 or his desperate twin angler 14!!!!) that have forced all the real fishing people away. Too All - please note that the other forum (the dark side) is growing and I hope you will all come and visit sometime and help everybody else learn more about a sport that has always been in my eyes a community sport. A sport where when someone is down, you don't kick him or her but pick him or her up and brush him or her down. A sport of kings and gentlemen. So there you go I have had my say and will be back again soon!!!! Have fun Tight Lines, Ian Harper (fishemirates) Site Administrator www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org And Remember ……. IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED……GO FISHING!!!!! |

Ijlal, My point about the lack of information is not a dig at any of you'll. I have asked a few questions and have recieved answers which I am very grateful for. I feel there is not much information in the forum as such. After reading pages and pages I had not much more information. I desperately needed information on knots, lures, Lines, etc etc Now when I compare this with one of the car forums I am a member of, the shortcomings are very important. That forum has different sections containing detailed information (from the engine, to tyres, to audio, to cleaning tips). Now where Ian's forum is superior is because there is now an opportunity to segment the information and upload it into the correct section. Just my few cents... |

"While Ian has done a tremendous job creating a new forum that is fisherman-friendly, I feel his effort will further hamper any progress towards creating a decent fishing community in the U.A.E. By splitting one forum, we will be left with too few members on either of the forums, making both boring and not conducive to attracting new members. As such, I suggest we either all move to Ian's forum or we all stay here!" Well said.. |

Welcome Fishmandxb, ...and well said! Actually, there are no ranks, and everybody, er, well, many are trying to declare themselves kings! I am a member of many forums and can tell you every forum has its own individual character. The 'anarchy' that you have referred to is infact part and parcel of this forum; like it or leave it, I would say! Novices join hoping to learn something, which is very well, but with false hopes that are soon shattered. They come here thinking they will be joining school. What they do not realize is they have to ask questions in order to get replies! Another problem is we have too few members and contributing members can be counted on fingers of one's hands. While Ian has done a tremendous job creating a new forum that is fisherman-friendly, I feel his effort will further hamper any progress towards creating a decent fishing community in the U.A.E. By splitting one forum, we will be left with too few members on either of the forums, making both boring and not conducive to attracting new members. As such, I suggest we either all move to Ian's forum or we all stay here! What has kept me out until now is the fact that this forum, despite its shortcomings, provides freedom of expression whereas I, and many others, especially the more experienced anglers amongst us, may not like to be under Ian’s stick all the time. It is unfortunate you found the forum when you are about to leave. We certainly have a dearth of members who can smile rather than declare others’ contributions as crap. Good for you though that you are proceeding to Australia, where sportfishing is highly acknowledged as a healthy outdoors activity. Good luck buddy! Ijlal |

Hi, Am new to the forum, and have read the last couple of posts and it looks like there is anarchy in the ranks lol but hey without anarchy you can't have order. Good on you Ian for starting the new forum and its looking good. the only problem is the lack of info. I know this is going to take time to get together but it will all come together in the end. I aggree with zetaxi165 it will be easier to find stuff as it is set out well and is easy to navigate. Unfortunately I will be leaving the UAE next week for good and its a shame I didn't find this place earlier as it looks like I could have had some fun. Anyway I am going to sunny Australia and can't wait to do a bit of fishing down under. Take care all you and although I only knew you all for a short time it is good to know that the fishing scene in the emirates is going to be ok and that it will go from strength to strength with 2 forums and the new website. I will visit from time to time and say Hello from down under :-) Fishmandxb ..... soon to be Fishmanoz :-) |

Hi All, I agree with Ian on the back posts matter. I am a real novice. And I am keen to learn... But most of the posts in here are too general and not very informative. I believe a forum that is better organised (broken into multiple sections) is much more suited to all our needs. Thats where Ian's forum comes into the picture. Lets all try to start contributing and collating information together so our hobby gets much more enjoyable. |

Morning everybody, Regarding my posts yesterday I hope I didn't upset anybody but just to make my point click here http://www.fishreports.net/fishing/messages/93/305.html which is the reports section for Bonita Beach in Florida USA. And every report is done by one person? But every report is informative and it is a REPORT and as I said yesterday, not just general crap ..... now please don't get me wrong (as anybody who knows me will tell you) I am one of the biggest clowns around and love a joke and a giggle (even about fishing) but to have to read pages and pages of needless crap :-( I don't think so .... in fact I have given up trolling throught the back posts as I can't find anything useful. Where are the likes of DaveH gone?? I liked to read his posts because they were informative .... Information, Information, Information thats what we need without info you will not learn anything? Anyway I think I have said enough on the matter and this will be my last post (but I will come back and read your posts in here) as I am going to concentrate on the other forum? I hope you all do come and visit and leave a report or some other news :-) Bye for now. Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org and Remember ....... Out in a boat and you want to get a cuda. Easy way is trolling or just put a whole sardine on one or two dripple hooks without a sinker. Best with drift boat and then wait you will get 100% cudas. |

Curious about last week-end catches? We went to the breakwaters in Hamriya where a group of 8 or 10 people were all using Lures. They caught couple of Cudas (all of them) during 4-5 hours. we were wondering if they're "doing it right" and then we also caught 2 (40/45cm each) using sardine pieces. Funny i never used lures, but noticed the Cudas there bite our sardines only when the bait is "on the move"(contraty to the cudas I saw before - they had no problem biting on bottom bait).. no sign of other fishes and looks like the cudas scared all other types. guess we have to change technique and learn new ways and prepare for these little beasts Wind got rough around noonish so we head home. will probably try again next weekend after the rain stops. how about your weekends? Sorry a carry on from my last post ...... The new forum is not going to be great overnight (and I do believe Hereb has tried doing something like it before) ..... but if all of us add our little bit of knowledge ... no matter how small ..... it can become a great forum. So please don't let all my spare time (doing something for all of us) go to waste and contribute to the forum to make t great. Some of the people that have already contributed, are Tacklebloke (fishpals), Ocean Blue, Ocean Blue Andre (two of our sponsors) Zappa & Udupa and I thank you all for trying to make it better and too all those who have registered already but not posted yet ... I look forward to reading your posts soon :-) Regards, Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org www.boating-me.com and Remember ...... Hi Pranab, As I said in the post to Joerg I have read most of the posts from the begining :-) and I admit it is good to be second after the states ..... but you have to admit if you remove all the posts that are not related to fishing (and I do mean fishing and not stuff such as casting distances, arguing about the catch & release issue etc) then we would be about one 5th (400 posts / 5 pages) of the actual amount. And that is why I have started the other forum to get rid of all the crap. All the true writers who really started this site and made it worth while reading (AJ, Jeen, Martin James etc) have all disappered and why???? I can put money on the lack of decent fish knowledge & reports .....oh yes REPORTS .... not needless banter between two or three people??? I am now on page 16 of about 25 old posts (see above) and I don't think I have read many posts that are of any interest what so ever since the likes of AJ, Jeen and Martin disappeared???? Now please don't take this wrongly as I am not having a dig at you ..... I just want to learn as much about sea fishing as I possibly can. I am quite new to sea fishing especially boat fishing and especially here. I am primarily a carp/tench and in the close season a pike fisherman in freshwater back in the UK. I have done a bit of beach casting back there but it never got me really excited. I mean with carp fishing it is the hunt that used to make it worth while, imagine spending hours (and I do mean hours 5, 6 or more) just watching the water in perfect silence. Then spending hours the next day tempting the fish with different baits to see how the fish are feeding?? I remember spending 7 days and nights on a lake in southern france and actually only fishing for 3 days as 4 days was spent investigating?? I miss it so much :-( And I caught my PB 29lb 8oz Mirror on that occasion and it was the only fish I caught in 7 days :-) Ask me how to tie a bollie on to a hook and I can tell you a hundred different ways, but ask me to tie a 3 hook trace for live bait trolling and I don't have a clue :-) This is what I want from a forum ..... old fishing tales of the one that got away, how to tie a 3 hook trace for trolling, a double hook jigging rig, the best rod / reel combo, knowing the weather and when its good to fish and when not etc etc etc ...... and if you visit the forum I have set up it is set up so you can go and read the section you want and find it quick and not have to troll through 1500 posts of crap to find out how to tie a hook? Pranab I realise that you are so keen to learn your hobby, passion, sport (whatever you want to call it) and commend you on that .... but how many times have you posted the info regarding fishing license requirements in Dubai .... at least 10 I bet???? and so you can see mine, and a lot of other peoples frustration as this forum .... it is all we have, too guide us to the best spots, the best techniques, best times for fishing, which lures are working at the time etc etc etc So there you go everybody I have had my say .... Now lets have yours :-) http://fishemirates.freeforums.org As my Dad used to say (god rest his soul) ..... YOU ARE NEVER TO OLD TO LEARN, AND NEVER TO YOUNG TO TEACH :-) Regards, Ian Harper (fishemirates) www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org www.boating-me.com and Remember ...... hi ian , At one point of time i workd hard to put this forum up and running . I saw the forum posts crossed 2000 marks which is just after usa . We we all know we can be never close to usa in fishing terms but at least we do a lot of fish talk . And hence i came back to celebrate that mark he he with regards pranab |

Hi guys , I agree with IAN in fact i wrote this books name which is only costing you AED 80 and its frm the explorer publication who have their office at karama beside GPO and the municipality LABRATORY . You will find a korean restaturan and the blg name is SHEIKH RASHI BULDING . But if i am not wrong it can be availed in enoc and eppco petrol pump . Its a store house of resources for people who do diving and also because it gives the dive sites with coordinates you knw the wrecks like barracuda barge or the sinking garden or HBM spots to name a few . People who love underwater adventure would lv it . In fact i am also taking fancy for diving because u can know where are the fishes he he . Its my personnel experience that if you talk to divers you knw best information about the movment and habitats of fishes and marine life . Any way i am back to uae and would lv to do some night fishing . Any one intersted . I think it would be great to do some after office hours wrapped in this cold climate . After all cold climate brings in some good fishes around . Let me know if any one is intersted . With warm regards pranab |

Hi Joerg, Sorry maybe I was a bit unclear ..... I don't want everyone to leave this forum completely as I like it also ..... what I meant to say is it would be nice to see you all there also :-) And have both forums going as a source of information :-) I am not in this for money .... so here or there doesn't matter to me .... I am in it for the love of fishing and it is all done in my spare / private time (well mostly lol) and juggling my job, private, social and fishing life, which includes the website & the forum (for you aswell as me) is hard .... and all I am doing is trying to improve the flow of fishing info for the UAE & Oman. The way I have set the forum up, it will be just easier to find what you are looking for :-) instead of sifting through all the back posts as you have to in here ..... (I have been reading for 2 weeks now and I am only half way through them all lol) ... anyway its up to you buddy :-) Oh and by the way Nice fish :-) Cheers & Tight Lines Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org |

Hi All, Listen, I have been looking into this topographic map stuff and Pranab is right you can get all the maps of the waters in the persian gulf from Elcome :-) Also if you have a Garmin (or the like) GPS unit with the Blue Atlantic maps on they more or less give you the same as they are based on the Admiralty Maps? Also if your looking for something different (a deep hole or wreck for instance) then look at some of the speciallty dive sites, or the UAE Underwater Explorer. They have 62 Dive sites, and where the divers go there are fish :-) Tight Lines, Ian Harper (fishemirates) Site Administrator www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforums.org |

Hi guys , Did i hear the topography map of the ocean . Yes i did write about it from a local supplier in garhoud free zone . The place where the old ship yard was . ELCOME INT i think the name of the company who sell it for much cheaper in fact but for diffrent areas they have detailed maps from auh dxb shj ajm fuj rak . Thy are located inside the old ship yard entrance from gate no 2 and then first right turn and then second left near LIBHERE CRANE . They are doing regular sonar of the sea bed for the ongoing projects and come up with uptodate maps of the area . So any one intersted in those can defenitely grab them . I once had them copied and wanted to distribute them among intersted fishermen here . But then 50 bucks seemed to them a lot of money . Then i just dropped the plan . If i remember correctly i did write their no here in a post . You have to scroll back to get the details regards Pranab (still inindia) |

Hey Bob! I wouldn't worry about a licence if you're here for a week on holiday. As a tourist, in the very unlikely event the secret police pop up and ask you for your papers, the bad publicity of hassling a tourist would immediately get them to back off I'd have thought! I only got my licence last week, and have fished here for almost a year. I've never been asked for it. The only place I've heard people being 'checked' is on the Creek. Lure-fishing from the breakwaters etc in Jumeirah, I'm sure you'll be fine. As some have posted here already, the best charter fishing is on the East Coast (Fujairah/Musandam). Best of luck Richie |

One of the better charters is a boat called "sneak Away" at Dubai creek golf and yacht club. However I dont know if they still operate, and if the captain and crew is as good as they were back in the day! Andy DeMare used to run a great company with 'Ocean Explorer' and 'Ocean Luhr' but as far as I know the boats have been sold off and no longer operate. Id recomend you check out www.oceanactive.com and see what they have to offer! just my 2 cents .... |

Hi Bobn, Sorry for the delay in responding to your post. You do indeed need a fishing license to fish from the shore in Dubai, however it seems that the other emirates are not so strict so a trip down to Sharjah or Ajman and you will be ok. There are a few charter hire companies here in the UAE but unfortunately I cant tell you too much about them as I haven't been on many (only one to be precise) I have been told that most of the Dubai based one's only take you to Jebel Ali Shipping Channel??? Unless you ask for something special. Anyway we all hope you enjoy your holiday here in Dubai. Tight Lines Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com http://fishemirates.freeforum.ca |

Hello all, I'm new to this web site. Thanks to all who contributed to bringin' it to life - it's truely nice and useful. Two things I'd like to share... I was luring on the beach off DEWA jebel ali last thursday afternoon - (across the canal at the end of wave breaker). I got two small cudas (my 5 month old son did not think they were small though!) http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/571/cuda3jan2008lg8.jpg The other thing - i was in Muscat/Oman yesterday and i heard from friends over there about very good fishing spots on islands not very far away from the shoreline. I'd like to go fish out there one day.. and I hope some one who had been there before can share their experience. Any suggestions?! Salam all, Luai |

I am fimilar with fishing in Panama, Cuba and the UK if anyone has any questions regarding them. |

I think others have posted the tide site before here...I've used it for years for diving. A good weather one is http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/dubai which I think Casper posted. Wind speed is especially handy for those of us on boats, helps us to know if we'll be catching dinner....or throwing it up! Looks like no fishing this w/end for me, diving instead, so all the more fish for you guys to catch!! Best Richie |

Fishing, fishing, fishing ........ surely its only called fishing when fish are involved????? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha ...... I am glad I have been ill all this weekend and haven't been able to go out :-( I haven't missed much by the sounds of things????? Right guys (& girls ..... if there are any that come in here???) I really need your help..... I want to start a database of all charter hire companies here in the UAE & Oman so that if any of us want to go on one ... then all the info is there for everyone to see. If you can send me names, phone numbers etc and a small write up about your trips whether good or bad (maybe give them a score from 1 - 10???) then I can include them in the site. I have also changed the tides page as Richie gave me a link to a great site :-) so now when you visit the site (http://www.fishemirates.com/Tides.html) just click on the link and you will get a full 7 day look ahead for the port you want ...... its great ..... thanks richie :-) Anyway going to try and get better for the long weekend coming up. Regards, Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com And remember ...... If at first you don't succeed ...... go fishin :-) |

Hi Guys, Went out in Fujeirah on Friday. Water was full of green and red algae (plankton?! who knows?!). Was very slow and got only 2 small fish on the dive boards closer to shore (small travelly and small snapper) The other boats I talked to got nothing aswell... gues it was just a slow day. Some of the guys said the algae was the cause! who knows.... anyone know a good way of rigging mackrel as live bait for trolling?! Let me know .... Anyone else go fishing?! Cheers |

Two early morning trips got me just two bites in Dubai this weekend - slooooow. First was a good-sized catfish (5 kg) down near the Marina which took a livebait and provided a good 5 mins of fun, second a queenfish of 2 kg which hit a Crystal Minnow lure under Garhoud Bridge. My buddy had one the same, they were hitting baitfish in the area, but a bit picky about lures. Catfish happily released, queenfish going under the grill tonight(!) Tight lines to all in 2008! hmmmmm ...... definately a problem for us pleasure anglers ...... we have had a total of 4 cuda, 1 lizard fish and a couple of colds in 7 weeks and 3 of those cuda's were in 1 day and at a wreck 12 k's out. Everybody else from UAQ is complaining and even the local fishermen are finding it harder ..... 1 guy told me last week down at jumeriah that he used to go out raise his traps, empty, re-bait and be back in port within 2 hours??? Now he is laying more traps and catching half the fish and he's out for 4 - 6 hours a day??? I think I will give it a miss this weekend and try again next week :-( Please let us know about your catches and don;t forget to let us know location etc if you catch :-) Tight lines everybody. Ian, The construction is the only explanation I can give. The total disappearance of the sailfish off the dubai coast is the best example. We used to have the biggest sails in the world and on really good days people use to tag and release upto and over 20 sails! The best Charter captains averaged from 4 to 8 sails a trip! now from what i heard these is nothing. Coincidence? Most the time deeper water = bigger fish, specially the pelagic species hence the guys going far out are getting the better results. The dept changes around the boot always attracted the big fish. On the other hand your rite we used to get big kings and cudas quiet close in... times are changing i gues! Maybe when all the construction settles down things will go back to normal! |

Hi Guys (& Girls), It really sounds like all the fish are giving the UAE a wide berth???? I wonder if all the construction that is going on is keeping them well away from the coast?? I have good reports from the boys who go well out to sea and I am talking 25 - 30 k's out???? Interesting as last year I've heard there was a lot of kings, Queens and ambers taken quite close in??? Anybody else think this could be the reason???? Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com |
