Subject: What and Where

I will be visiting the St. Pete and Dunedin area and hope to do some fishing weahter permitting somewhere along your west coast.I am bringing gear suited for fishing albacore, dorado, that type of fish. Should I also pack gigs such as for grouper? I am not familiar with what type of fishing is done in your area and to say the truth, this is a last minute trip. My friend has a 22' center counsol but he is not experienced in fishing or in the waters off of your coast. Any information shared would be greatly appreciated. I am an experienced boater and somewhat knowledgeable fisherman off of our california coast but it would sure be nice to get into some tarpin or whatever is big and fun to catch in your area. Yes, I know the sponges are big but how do they Fight?

Subject: Kingfish

Saturday 3/3/01.
Just Offshore Honeymoon and Three Rooker Bar.
Weather: Rough, seas 4-6, windy.
We found one 6 inch Blue runner and put it out on a ballon. Hooked up but did not see him before he got off. We went inside of the Rooker and cast netted some pin fish for bait. It was so windy we could not get the anchor to hold and we were behind the island.
We then went out to marker # 7 due West on the north end of the island and set adrift using pinfish on kingfish rigs. the wind was pushing us at about 2 mph to the North East. We were being blown right into the river where we had departed at 7:30am. We received two more hits as we drifted in both got off before we could confirm their identity. One of the large pinfish was eaten in half similar to a kingfish hit. We gave up the battle and headed on in.
I will be posting regular reports on www.tampabayfishingreport.com, come see me and let me know how your doing too.
