I usually fish in Brooklyn but I went to Jersey... Sunday & Monday Sept 6+7 I fished in Sea Bright and Rumsford area. The Ocean was too rough to fish at the beach so we concentrated on the rivers in various places. With spearing and bunker my wife and I looked for snapper blues. We used mostly a popper rig for the snappers with bait added. We started in Sea Bright at noon (high tide) on the Shrewsbury River. First at South Street , I could not find any still water to cast into, the river was flowing out fast. Then we tried just south of the Rumsford Bridge there is a small park behind the Exxon station on Rt. 35. I caught one snapper over about an hour. Later that night on a rising tide I fished in the hotel marina behind the Fairbanks. I caught 5 snappers in an hour from 11:00 to 12:00 midnight. The next day about 11:00 it was still windy at the beach So we went to the North side of the Oceanic Bridge. There is a parking area and some public shoreline just to the right as you cross over into Locust. The Navesink River is wide at this point you can cast into deep water near the bridge. High tide again we caught snappers on the spearing in 5 feet of water right by the parking area. But I wanted to try the town of Fairhaven town pier on Fairhaven road. This fishing pier is very nice. There were people catching snappers and crabs. The area seems very safe for the kids. We caught snappers, then paused to have lunch on the corner of River Road and Fairview. This is such a nice area. |

Subject: Striped Bass and Blues
Lots of boats=Lots of fish We hit the Blues hard trolling and using bunker pieces. The bass were slow but big. Florescent green and yellow plugs work best! |

Subject: good fishing
Can it get any better than this.Between the blows for us small craft operaters (16'sylvan), fly fishing for bass has never been better. As a matter of fact it has not stopped since the Flyns Knoll frenzy in July and continued if you followed the bait and the certain rips. Not to mention siting on schools of Albies in late August and September. Still fishing. |

Subject: Week Of Sept. 18
Hi to all my Fly Fishin friends! Heres a copy of my report as posted at www.reeltherapy.com
Environmentally speaking, it appears that the wrath of the fuel spill that was reported last Thursday has worked its way out. Fast action by the Navy, coast guard and local oil cleanup companies did there best (they were able to get 5,000 gallons of the estimated 30,000 gallons that were spilled) until the bad rain and windstorm hit right after the spill. This has acted to disperse the nastiness into the environment, namely water and the atmosphere.
Although there is no evidence of the spill out on the water at this time, I am sure that the fish and wildlife of the area were, are and will continue to be affected.
Things are really happening out on the water. The Albie action has been much more steady and consistent as time goes on. Different sized fish are starting to showup with some running in the 9lb range!
Stripers, weakfish and bluefish are all kicking some butt, however we are bypassing this action at the moment to run down the speedsters.
The mullet, peanut bunker, spearing and rainfish are all doing the fall thing in a big way.
Yesterday, The Bill Primm charter had a mix of action, Albies at first light, bluefish and weakfish before the weather went bad. I have dates available, so please call or email me to reserve your fall dates now.
Take a kid fishin! Capt.Paul |

Subject: Week of 9/11/00
Looks like things have definitely started to pop around here! We had some solid shots at the False Albacore this past weekend and actually put some greenbacks in the boat! This is well overdue because usually by this time of year we have been into them solid for weeks now. The action has been best right next to the beach for my personal favorite,"jump" fishing and 8 miles off or so, and my buddies are chumming them up and nailing fish to 8lbs! For those wading anglers on the list, Sandy Hook on the Oceanside has been producing consistent 1-2lb blues flyroddable from the surf every morning. The area right in front the toll booths is a good place to start. FYI- the false Albies are mixed in with them! This past Saturday, we were casting around the edges of the mayhem and had them eat some big orange "creenan clousers" attached to a bite leader of 30 pound test...so much for floro carbon! The bay is producing some serious sized weakfish that are feeding on all the peanut bunker and grass shrimp in the water. They are making a mess of my boat by spitting everything on deck, during their brief stay on board Reel Therapy, this mess totally welcome after a month of poor fishing! Striped bass are starting to show in a major way as well. I have dates open during the week with the other RT skippers so please keep this in mind if you need a day off. Keep in touch! Capt. Paul www.reeltherapy.com |
