As the water temps climb to those magical numbers look for trout to move in to the surf. Find bait activity and work the area over. The fish will be there.
I like to throw topwaters in blue/chrome.

LAst week on bryan beach, Fishing was a little slow on cut bait but i did land a 45lb black drum. I was able to catch one amberjack on dead shrimp and some small baitfish with the shrimp also. The water was a little cool but the dolphins were patroling the shores pretty close. I was wade fishing out about 300 ft from the shore. Of course the hardhead cats were out but that's a given! |

Freeport Surfside Jetty Sun. nite, June 05, 2005.
Heavy surf; manageable seaweed; but after 3 plus hours of 1000w white light, no baitfish; no specks; no bites; and no one else did anything either. We were last to fold just past midnight. Any reports from others? Improved since? |

I flew down the coast last Saturday 5/28 to see what was up. The water was as clear as I've seen it by SLP so I could see a lot of bait and fish in the water. I saw a huge shark working a sandbar off the Freeport side of the pass. I don't know what kind it was but it was much bigger than the two fisherman about 8' away. The plane scared it but the guys never knew it was working bait right by them. First time I've seen a shark that size in this area. |

Fishing Report for Freeport
Black drum, redfish, whiting and sand trout are fair to good on fresh shrimp at San Luis Pass. Trout are fair to in Christmas Bay and Chocolate Bay on live shrimp.

Subject: Offshore Freeport, Texas
Fished: 6/24/2000, Saturday
Water Temperature: 83 deg
Water Clarity: Dark Blue 35 miles out
Seas: 3 to 4 feet with 3's on top of 4's.
Weather: Winds 15 knots gusty to 20 knots early, afternoon sunny and hot, winds 10 - 15 knots with seas 2' to 4' late afternoon.
Fishing for: Snapper, Kingfish, Dolphin, & Ling.
Boat: Reel Life
Captain: Joseph Wachel
Report:
Started out at 6:00 AM. I thought that we would never get out of Freeport Harbor. There were more boats turning back than going out, Mostly the snall boat fleet.
After a rough ride for several hours, the seas did start to diminish. Looks like the begining of s good fishing day for my party of five. The sixth one stayed at home.
We did manage a respectable catch of Snappers with a good sow throwm in for good measure, five large Kingfish, and one 35 lb Ling.
All in all, our group had a good trip.
Will post pictures when they are available.

The Dinks have finally grown up. Our party of five from Austin and Fort Worth, caught quite a number of sow snappers. They took home an icebox full of fillets

Subject: Offshore Freeport, Texas
Well after reviewing all of the TRASH reports on other boards, I decided to give you an accounting of 5-29-2000 charter. We were anchored at Tall Rock and fishing for anything, but mostly for snapper. We did manage a respectable catch of keepers, but nothing to write home about.
Here is the climax of the whole day: We landed a 6'2" long SAILFISH on a flat line using herring for bait. How about that!!!!
It just goes to show everyone that you will never know what you will catch fishing offshore!!!!!!!
