"For the sake of the public safety of the citizens of Comal County and to prevent illegal entry to property, all watercraft motorized and non-motorized and all people are prohibited from the waters of Canyon Lake and Guadalupe River located in Comal County".
All U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operated parks and boat ramps at Canyon Lake are currently closed. These areas will remain closed until the flood waters have receded and repairs to park facilities have been completed.
Dam releases will be increased substantially beginning Saturday, October 10 to drop the lake level approximately 1 foot every three days. At that rate it will take about 69 days for the level to reach 920'. The Judge has promised to lift the ban at 918-920 msl. Subject: Canyon Lake Boating Ban
CANYON LAKE: Water clearing; temp. N/A; 944': The lake remains closed to all boat traffic by order of Comal County Commission. According to Comal County Commissioner Danny Schell, the boating ban and lake use prohibition will remain in effect until the lake level reaches a 920 feet above sea level; a drop of some 24 feet. This may be confusing to those with boating or fishing interests since the commissioner has seen fit to permit a select group of special interest people (Kyakers/Canoests/Rafters) access to the upper Guadalupe River while extending the ban and prohibiting use by all others. Even though the lake is no more dangerous, and possibly less so, than the Guadalupe River above the ban will remain in effect until the lake level reaches 920', which is estimated to take 4 to 6 weeks. If you would care to voice your opinion on preferential treatment for these recreationist contact Danny Schell at (830) 620-5569 or the Corps. of Engineers at (830) 964-3341.
