WATER COLOR stained up river, clear at dam.
WATER VIS two ft up rivers, six at dam.
WATER TEMP 49-52 AM. 52-56 PM.
AIR TEMP 45 AM. 67 PM.
CONDITIONS partly cloudy/ sunny

BASS, spots are moving up on main points find one that falls into the channel and you have a hot spot. Spots are coming on cr and texas rig worms [ u-tails, dead ringers] pumpkinseed and green pumpkin are the hot colors. Also crank baits in chart. or shad colors are getting them also.

Active fish seem to be in the 1-10 ft zone depending on the sky conditions. LARGE MOUTHS still seem sluggish but can be caught. Try jigs around wood cover in the rivers and fish slow for the best bite. black and blue seems to produce well but don't be afraid to change to a more natural color if your not getting any bites.

CRAPPIE, should be turning on but have also been sluggish with only twenty fish a day on avg. Their time will come and it will be every fish for themselves!!! Try 1\16-1\8 jigs in chart. or chart and white around wood cover in the creeks.

WHITE BASS, WOW these fish are on and off , but if you hit them right you are in for a great day. They are up the rivers and will hit cranks and jigs, white being the best color I've found for this lake. Trolling is the best way to find them, then you can cast to them if you like, once you find a school. Give these fish a week or two and the upper rivers should boil. THERE ARE NO HYBRIDS OR STRIPES IN THE LAKE so if you get a four lb. fish let the FISHERIES BIOLOGIST'S KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lake Wedowee, Alabama USA
Water Temp: 47-52
Water Color: Stained
Water Level: 9FT
Below Full Pool
Best Fishing Time: 10 am-5 PM
Air Temp: 38 AM 65 PM

Sorry I've been gone so long , two knee op's keep me out of the boat for the most part but were back full time again just in time for THE PRE SPAWN!!!!!!!

BASS are being caught both shallow and deep. Drop shot,Carolina rigs and Texas rig for shallow fish with small tubes and worms in dark hue's. The dirty water above the 48 bridge has most of the bass up on the banks. Below the bridge water clarity gets better and the fish are deeper. We caught fish in 1 to 40 ft of water. A good way to tell were the fish are holding if you dont see them on your depth finder is by there color, light fish are holding deep or in mud and dark fish are staying shallow. I have seen plenty of huge schools of fish suspended around the creek mouths but they don't seem to bite until they come up on the points and flats. Pay attention some bites are hard and some are super light most the hard bites seem to be tail grabbers. The fish should start to feed more now with the pre spawn season around the corner. notice the spots are getting heavy already with most of the large mouths in the lower lake "heads with tails". Twenty fish days are here again with fifty on good days.

CRAPPIE bite is on, fish around the timber and on brush with minnows. depth also depends on water color in dirty water they seem to lay low on the bottom. Try the swag and fox creek areas. GATORS sighting have been in Wedowee creek , eggs said to have been found!!!!!! This happens here a couple times a year but most are put off as somebodys been drinkin' again!!! I think this is real this time, but don't panic until Betty White starts buying feed from the CO-OPP!!! Then I'm outta here!!! DANO IS A GUIDE FOR SOUTH STATES FISHIN. FISHING REPORT WEDOWEE AL. July 21 01.
WATER TEMP 87
AIR TEMP 90
WATER COLOR Clear
WATER VIS. 6ft. 48 bridge area, up the rivers it will be stained from heavy rains Friday.

BASS, fish small finesse worms right on the bank. A lot of small SPOTS and some slot fish are sure to be had. This will also aid in removing the small bass to help the lake. Just ask around there are bunches of folks that would just love a bass dinner!!!!!! Any bass under 13" need to go if we want the slot off and have a healthy lake!!!Largemouth are easier caught at night, they are moving up on main lake points with cover. You can also catch some in the lay downs, brush piles, timber, and around lighted docks at night. The lake has produced more fish over 8 lb. this year already, than it has in years. Every week a picture pops up here and there. Tales of big fish are once again being told in Wedowee. If those big fish are released back into the lake, more people can enjoy the feeling of "your biggest fish ever" and right here at WEDOWEE, ALABAMA U.S.A....CRAPPIE are sure fun to catch, if you are catching them!!!!!The crappie are bitting late night, with midnight starting most of the action. You going to have to just grin and bare it on those days and nights that you go home with just a few fish. Fish are bust en the shad, most are small and not in big numbers yet, but you can still have some fun with them. WHITE BASS are sure fun to watch when they bust shad, they have no respect for there own safety. The best baits to get any of these fish to hit is going to be small[the shad are small], crank baits, jigs, spoons, top water, and of coarse rattle traps. The "thermo-cline" is coming. read more about the Thermo-cline and other summer tips @ http://www.geocities.com/southstatesfishin DANO is a guide for SOUTH STATES FISH'IN and can be reached at 256-357-4195 or E-MAIL them at southstatesfishin@juno.com still summer trips open day and night.

slow BASS fishing lately, try a little finnesse, worm that is, you may be in for a surprise!!! You are not going to get a bunch of ten pounders but you can get a few more fish than you would with bigger baits. Carolina rig, texas rig, or drop shot would be a good choice. Colors would depend on the water in that area, dark water dark bait, clear water, try the lighter colors. Rig these on a light rig, 6-8 lb test with a 3\8 or lighter sinker a number 1 or 2 hook and hold on. Fish these around cover near the main lake or points[rocky points are better] and boat docks are choice locations also. Live bait can't be beat, try it in the same areas as above and 20 ft of water. CRAPPIE are being taken the same way, or you could troll the ledges and shelfs, bluffs or trees, and don't forget those deep creeks. 1\8 oz jigs, colors change with the water color and sky conditions. WHITEBASS will also be caught the same way, just change your jigs to a white or a combo of chart\white and fish alittle deeper and in the main lake area. CATFISH some nice cats are being taken in the cuts on the main rivers, always check verticle structure such as bluffs and creek channels[run ins are hot] old foundations and bridges. If you have still not marked all the brush you see in 15 to 35 foot of water you need to!!!! 4th of JULY WEEK!!!! Please be careful this week traffic is already heavy.

BASS, large mouths are on main lake points, fish heavy cover [laydowns, timber, brush]. Jigs will get you some good bites, as will big worms, but its far between bites. Be sure to try trolling some mid to deep divers [crank baits] in 10-25 ft of water along the trees and points below the 48 bridge. SPOTS are in 18-20 ft of water, try some 4" worms, grape colors have been good. SCHOOLING fish are getting active, cast some rattle traps or small spinnerbaits to em', some of the fish maybe WHITE BASS in the two or three pound range, we are also getting whites on jigs
trolled around points and humps. CRAPPIE may even hit some jigs if there trolled in 15- 25 ft of water. The bridges are good at night but you have to be over the fish, find them before you put out lights. Times vary, plan on staying awhile they will hit minnows but tend to turn on and off alot. 30 would be a good goal now. ....FIREWORKS...... FLAT ROCK PARK JULY 4TH RAIN DAY IS THE 5TH. The lake at night has been getting foggy in spots use caution .....TOURNEYS every Wednesday 6pm -10 pm ct $20 a boat Saturday night 6 pm-1 am $30 a boat at the 48 BRIDGE RAMP. this weeks wednesday will be on Tuesday due to the holiday [fireworks and traffic] but will return to Wednesday the 11th. ..DANO is a guide for

BASS are hitting alot better now. Daytime fish main lake points and wood. Large mouths are being caught up the big river, a few hogs are being caught from all over the lake. Spots are being caught from 1'-8' and from 22'-30'[best for good numbers]. Spinner baits are getting the better fish, but its possible to catch some on any lure you throw. My years best fish came at night, a 8-4 large mouth on 6/6/01. Night fishing is getting better also and will soon be the way to go for big fish. Try large worms, black or red are good choices fish these on points and roadbeds. Spinner baits are producing some fish at night but it is a slower bite fish them on points and over the tops of humps. A black 3/4 oz with a big Colorado blade will net you some.

CRAPPIE are being caught under the bridges at night with minnows, and during the day the trooling bite is getting more in the boat. Fish 1/8 oz. jigs White or green or a combo of both seem to be best. Try these
over creeks or ledges in 20' of water. WHITE BASS are back in the lake. Fish for these at the mouths of the creeks or humps using white 1/8-3/16 oz jigs or small shad colored Rattle traps. Trolling will get you the
best numbers of these little fighters. STRIPERS are below the dam and being caught on live bait and heavy jigs when the turbines are on.

AS ALWAYS watch your depth finder for shad, they are the key to loading the boat with your favorite wedowee slabs, hogs, and big white bass. WATER TEMP 75
WATER COLOR STAIN AT DAM MUDDY UP THE RIVERS
AIR TEMP 65 AM. 80 HIGH 70 PM.

BASS
sunrise and sunset will be the best times, bass and crappie seem to be in postspawn now. The best bite for us is a trick worm along the banks leading away from main lake points, fish any cover wood or rock that you find. During the day I would try secondary points with a watermelon worm or chart. crankbait, and a spinnerbait with small willow leaf blades on the lower lake. With the rains we have been getting about every other day, a spinnerbait with a big indiana blade is taking largemouth up the rivers in the muddy water. Its getting good again!!!

CRAPPIE
Troll bays and flats out from spawning areas, long line in clear deeper areas, short line at shallow areas. Most of our fish are coming from 14-17 ft. on any green or green combo jig any style, but it is still a little slow.

WHITE BASS
Troll channels in creeks and up the rivers with white 1\8 jigs in 20-30 ft water. Trees are a plus!!!!!

CATFISH
Still in spawning areas up the rivers [as far as butlers mill on the little tallapoosa] and in coves and creeks on the main lakes. Try cut bait or night crawlers

STRIPPERS
Below the dam, try white bucktails or whole brim/shiners floated thru and around the discharge.

Bass fishing has slowed some due to post spawn on most of the lake. Finding most spots and large mouths early and in the evening. Fish spinnerbaits and flukes around shallow cover. Fish floating worms, spinnerbaits, and flukes along shoreline cover during the day. Fish are also still taking crankbaits on main points below the 48 bridge.
CRAPPIE fishing is still good up the rivers but slow in the lake. Fish are being caught by trolling the creeks and coves in 15-30 ft. of water. white 1\8 oz. jigs and chart. and white 1\8 jigs are getting the most bites. Its time to start deep trolling and night fishing!!! Start finding deep structure. CATFISH are still spawning in the rivers. Big yellows were still being caught way up the little river. STRIPES are being caught up the little river and in the tailraces of the dam when there pulling water. Big fish you need big bait!!! Some twenty to thirty pounders are being caught but not regular.

All fishing will pick up soon, the spawn has been messed up this year but if your willing to try the out reaching areas your sure to find the fish. Dano is a guide for south states fish'in and can be reached @

Spotted bass are on main lake points and humps, also points in the bigger creeks. Look for big rock in creeks, and any rock on main lake. Texas rigged lizards chart. or any green with chart. tails. 3/8 Spinnerbait white/chart gold. ind blades are getting big fish now.

Largemouth bass are still on bed and in spawning areas. Try some of the newly flooded grass and brush. Laydowns and logs are also still holding fish in the creeks and main lake coves. Fish the same lures for the big mouths that I recommended for the spots.

Some crappie are still being caught in the creeks and coves, trolling is getting good again but you need to find the areas holding groups of fish. Road beds and channels are holding good numbers, any path from the spawning areas should be fished.

Over all most of the fish are in the same areas. Bass, crappie, and catfish can all be caught on live bait on the same spots. 2-3 lb crappie, 3-4 lb spots, and 5-6 lb large mouth are not uncommon now. Strong storms are common this time of year be careful.

Large mouths are in and around those log jams we will be picking trash out of. You can catch them on lizards and large worms. You can also get them on spinnerbaits, and the trick worm time is getting closer!!!! You may nail a few now, around trees and over cover[brush ect.]

SPOTS,are on the points once again, yesterday We boated some top of the slot fish and some nice ones to. The bigger spots came down at the dam on humps and points. Last weekend we caught more than our share of slot and just over the slot fish on the points up the little river from the 48 bridge, most of these were also caught on lizards, any color of
green seems to work. If its numbers you are looking for try smaller worms [u-tails are working great]in green or purple hues.Fish these around points and banks with small chunk rock or gravel sized rock. Those in the know will have a blast on my secret weapon, yes that dreaded blue worm!!!!!

Crappie are hit'in if you can find a fishable spot in the winds we have been getting. Red headed chart. jigs with white tails are my best producers now, bring some 1/8 oz. the wind is making trolling hard. Casting these little baits is also producing slot spots along with crappie if fished on banks and points leading in or out of coves.

Minnows are producing well, crappie and nice cats are being taken from blow downs in the cuts, coves, and creeks. Fish thick if you can, a 10,12, or longer pole will assist in this but watch out for the cats!!!!!

Remember the Catfish classic sat at Lineville City Park, this is a Kids event. ALSO REMEMBER THE LAKE WEDOWEE CLEAN UP SUNDAY THE 29 OF APRIL. Bring lots of help, kids, friends, and anyone else you can bring. We will have a cookout, shore fishing, and a real good time. The location is at the CRESENT CREST LAUNCH off of 48w, Second right past the Wedowee Shoppete it's the dirt road at the top of the hill,on a turn at the right, Co. road 237 , take Co rd 237 to the tee then left around barn[240] and follow it to Cresent Ridge rd.[1/10 of mile after pavement starts]. Fishing report for Lake WEDOWEE AL.[RL. HARRIS RES.]
Water color:stained to muddy.
Water temp: 63-67
Water level:790.4 [2.6 below full pool]

Spotted bass fishing has been good ,with 30 fish days, most fish are at the top of the slot 14-16 inches. Fish for spots on banks around main lake points and on main lake points, long slow points seem to hold better numbers. Use spinnerbaits 1\4-3\8 single bladed chart. Also try texas rigging or drop shotting finesse baits and smaller 6" worms in
watermelon, gourd green,or chart\pepper.

Largemouth bass fishing is picking up, try up the Big Tallapoosa in the cuts or around the mouth of them. Also try up in Wedowee creek and Pineywood creek. use spinnerbaits ,worms[watermelon with chart tail 7-9
in] and jig and pig combos [color depends on the water color] fish points and trees and also the channels in the backs of the creeks. Fish will be
moving up to spawn soon don't miss it !!!!!!!!!!!

Crappie and catfish are both in the backs of creeks and coves right now!!! If you don't find them just work your way out and you should find them. trolling jigs[ white or chart seem good but black and lime or black and chart are getting alot of strikes] drop minnows around cover and you will find the fish.

The lake has been changing daily for a week or two, water levels and color have made it hard to pattern fish any where but now the temps are up and the fish are in the prespawn or spawn modes come and get'em. Subject: Lake Wedowee, Al fishing report

Water temp; Thurs 57, Fri 59, sat 61,sun 55 with wind.

Water color: sun 3rd of march stained with areas of muddy water.

air temp; 57-64 [ Sunday it was 48-54 with the winds]

Bass are hitting good, they seem to still be on main lake points and there are a lot of stacked fish that are inactive on the first major break. This could be the reason for fish feeding in 8-12 ft of water on
the points all day long!!!! They seem to come up shallow to feed then return to suspend on the breaks. This is a holding place for the pre spawn.

Spots will stay in the deeper water close to the channel and feed on the points leading into the creeks, check the rocky banks with small points . move into the creeks further as the water warms.

Large mouths will be heading to the backs of the creeks and any other flats with cover such as stumps and lay downs. They spawn prior to the spots and in much shallower water. So start your search in the mouths and fish roadbeds, creek channels, ditches, brush lines and any other cover that leads to the spawning grounds. Remember they will come in shallow to check bedding areas, then move back out to the first drop off. This is when a large blade on a spinner bait will produce quality fish if fished in the right areas.

Crappie are hitting jigs in 14-22 ft of water, troll or cast the baits around cover or trashy bottoms. Fish minnows or light jigs on small floats around tree tops and lay downs ,45 degree banks seem to be
best. Try , chart., chart/white, and black/chart. water clarity, changes found everywhere, try to stay out of muddy water. expect, 30 -40 fish a day.

Subject: Lake Wedowee, Alabama fishing report

Wedowee AL. fishing report for Feb 21 01.
Lake Level is 784.7 [9 ft below full pool]
Water temp is in 50's. Water is stained with muddy
conditions after the rain storms.
Fishing is good, fish main lake points with jerk
baits in 3-9 ft of water.Best luck will be slow
tapering points around river or creek mouths.Cold
front conditions had fish deeper on points and easily
caught on drop shot rig.Try this on the upcoming cold
front and see what I mean. You will find fish on
locators in deep points, they may be holding tight to
any scattered cover as they were on sat and sun of
last week. I recommend starting at 48 bridge and
progressing away from that main lake area to find the
most fish.Large mouths and spots seem to be together
for this pre spawn pattern.
It is almost time for using the big bladed spinner
baits for the prespawn fish, you can catch numbers of
large fish on this pattern when the fish enter the
creeks!!!Fallow spawning routes along creek channel
and ledges.
Look for crappies to start gathering around feeder
creeks and spawning areas. They have been found
scattered every where!!troll slow, and watch your
finders for schools and bait fish! Try the shallow
patterns with hair jigs under a bobber's so you don't
miss the first of the action. Just try not to stay on
this pattern if you are not catching fish!!!!!
We are booking up so you need to get ahold of us
now for spring trips!!!
