Subject: Trophy fish are on the bite
Trophy time has arrived on Rainy Lake. Many big fish being released right now! The bulk of the larger walleyes seem to be in 50 feet of water. Reefs in 35 feet of water are producing dozens of fish for each party out there. Northland jigs (bright colors) tipped with minnows was the hot bait yesterday. Also, trolling reef runners with thin diameter line can get down on top of the larger reefs.
Smallmouth bass fishing has really picked up lately. The 5lb plus fish are up in shallow water and easy to catch on a variety of baits. I like husky jerks right now, so I can see them come up and smash it.
Big northern pike have moved up on top of the shallow reefs and points. Expect to catch some big pike if you are fishing anything in 25 feet or less.
Because so many big fish are up shallow they seem extremely abundant, like it could never end. However, these are very old fish and take a long time to replace. Get a reproduction made and release that trophy.
Good Luck and Good Fishing

Subject: Rainy Lake Fishing
Another great opener on Rainy Lake. Crappies were biting in several locations and the action gets better with each warm day.
Best action for walleye, smallmouth bass, and northern pike was in the many shallow bays and on the points leading into the bays. |

Subject: Rainy Lake Fishing Report
The lake is frozen right now, but this spring the big fish will be right where we found them last fall. The Rainy River is starting to thaw and I saw a boat out fishing today in the open water just west of International Falls. However, you will need to drag a small boat in because snow and ice will remain at the access points for some time. Contact us for updated information. Fishing remains fair on Rainy Lake. Sand Bay continues to put out many small and a few large walleyes everyday for most parties. Areas to the east of Sand Bay are putting out some nice walleyes and northern pike. The same deep reefs that produce in the summer are working now. Try jigging Rapalas or a Northland jig with a live minnow. Ice roads are in good shape. Some slush due to the recent heavy snows. Stop by a local bait store and buy an ice pass to support the plowing. Anglers that are taking snowmobiles to go find untouched fishing spots are doing well.
Big crappies have been hitting all year. We were happy to have Dave Genz up here this year. He went after the big crappies Rainy is famous for (14 to16"). Northwest Bay, Red Gut Bay, and Black Sturgeon are your best bets.
Big northern pike are being caught in many of the bays and narrows on the lake. Also, can be found with the walleyes on the reefs.
If you go out for a cross country adventure, use caution. Some narrows and points have dangerous ice due to the current.
Book your trip now on the waters rated as some of the best by the InFisherman and many others. Good Luck and Good Fishing

Subject: Fishing On Rainy Lake?
Fishing late in August was excellent! From August 18-24th, I caught six walleyes over 26 inches! Had excellent shore lunches, and brought many home!
