Subject: Fall Salmon Run

Hello,
Well, its been an interesting season for Sauk Creek and Port Washington. The big rains at the end of September brought a large chunk of the chinooks up early. Inbetween the creek fish numbers dropped way off, but have bounced back nicely with the strong run of the coho salmon now at its peak or just slightly past the peak. I fished on Nov 2 and caught and released 12 cohos, using a panfish tube jig and an ultralight set up of all things. The hot color tubes were red/white and pink/white. There is perhaps a week to two left on the run, depending on the weather.
Enjoy!

Subject: Fall Salmon Run

Stopped by Port Washington Sunday 9/24. Sauk Creek was at its highest level for a salmon run since 1996. Fish were already all the way up to the Sauk Creek nature preserve. The water was terribly muddy, so my fly fishing was realitively ineffective. I did hook into two chinooks, but both used the current, and I lost them both. The bigger fish was about 36", the smaller, about 27" Some anglers had a few fish that were using spinning rods with spinners on them. The harbor was also very crowded. Look for fishing to improve as water levels drop some and the water clears. Also, if you're new to Sauk Creek, I'd advise against wading into the creek. With how the water is, its impossible to tell where some of the deeper runs are unless you've waded the creek for years like I have.
