Plan to go for about max 5hours session. Cost per person about AED160-180. Maximum capacity only 06 anglers.

Formats of fishing - bottom fishing, jigging, casting and most probably some trolling.

Anybody interested??????

Hi Anto,

Try browsing some of the post of previous year (2007) and you would definetly get detailed information on the License procedure.

Just to breif you up. You need a fishing license to fish in Dubai which is free but you need a lot of documents. The most important is the house tenancy contract & DEWA bill in your name.

However, there are places where you can fish without a license. I usually fish in and around Dubai, Sharjah, still exploring Ajman.

amir

The Barracuda outlet near the Marina is located at the ground floor of "Diamond Investment" Building.....somewhere in between the JBR and the Sheikh Zayed Highway.

They have got few new, very tempting, sexy looking.......RODS from Jigging Master, Van Staal, St. Croix & those which are custom built by our very own...."Fishpals" aka super cool rod builder!

They also carry few top of the line reels including Shimanos, Accurates & Van Staal.

Hi Anto,
You can get the license from the Dubai Municipality, You will first have to apply online and then once it is approved you can collect it from their office. The website is www.dm.gov.ae

I have some questions for the ones of you that fishes in the creek, I am interested in fishing there but can i have some tips on where to fish exactly and how can i get the licence??

I use to fish in the Mediterranean and there we use live worms but i got some fake ones which have the same look and smell from Japan and I would like to try them.

Look forward to hear with you guys

Take care

Hi guys,
Went to Creek park on friday evening caught a whole lot of cat fish and a crab, nothing else, I used shrimps as bait.
Hi Sultan regarding the jebel ali beach i spoke to an angler who was fishing there and he said that at around 5-6 in the morning he caught 2 king fish, he showed it to me and they were quiet big. I noticed that the sea around that area is not very deep, do you think its a good idea giving it a try though the beach is shallow?

Hi Guys,

Here are some pictures of Barramandi I caught while on vacation in Thailand last week.

The Tackle used is as follows:

Rapala rod HM-55 and Shimano 4000 reel
Another local Haunting rod and my Diawa Cladia Kix reel
Line was 12Lb Braid
Lures were small green rubber fish with a single hook through the body.
Fish ranging between 6, 7 and 8 KGS
(In three hours I landed around 15 Barramandi and released all safely)

Cheers guys lets go fishing, anyone have any plans for the weekend?

Ashley

Went out for some boat fishing on Saturday morning with Kim, Kit, Anton & Mohammed.

Left the diving village at around 06:15 a.m. and head straight to the spot near the "world". Initially was quite quiet but after awhile we were taking out baracuddas from the water almost after every drop of the jigs. The water was literally infested with them hence no other fish were caught.

We then moved to another spot where we caught Sheris and sultan ibrahim. Kit and myself managed to catch a couple of hamours with jigs.

Mohammed also caught few orange spotted trevalies using sabiki rigs.

The total/overall catch was not really that great but still ok, considering the heat and the fact that the moon phase was not really right.

It was my most successful jigging session so far.

Might just want to organise few trips during Ramadan....just to CURE the ONGOING ITCH for fishing!..he..he..he..Anyone interested?

Cheers!

Hi Dennis,

Welcome to the forum!

There might be some fly fishing gears available at Baracudda, just across the road from the Abra at Baniyas road along the creek....if my memory is still serving me right!!!!

You can even try checking at their larger outlet .... near the Marina...as I was told but personally, had never been there.

Otherwise you could pop into KNOTICA, which carry few of the fly fishing stuff. Saw a fly reel there about few days back. Its located at the third interchange on Sheikh Zayed Highway. On the left hand side if heading towards Abu Dhabi.

Both KNOTICA and BARACCUDA are having a fairly good selection of high quality stuff, not available elsewhere in the UAE. Kim and myself got our Shimano Stellas from Baraccuda.

Got a couple friends who are really into fly fishing namely Kit & Chua.

Ciao!

went out last thursday night/ friday morninig to sharjah. Wasnt very exciting as its difficult on the rocks and did not managed to get anything. after that we turned to makhtoum bridge around 6 am. Got quite a few breams, terrapoons. There was a guy using a handline with small black crabs as bait and he must have atleast caught around 7-8 kgs of fish and the sizes were also big specially considering the area.

browse through some prevous months post. I had posted some pictures of fish caught from creek park with a friend of mine Ali.

Ok thats nice thanks. Amir there is a place past the Jebel Ali beach resort and spa where you could camp over night, have you been to this area before? I had gone there on new years and saw quite a lot of anglers. So i decided to go there once it cools down, camp the night and try fishing thru the night and early morning. But i noticed that after 9 am there are these guys on water scooters going up and down. So probably night fishing is the best right? Have you fished during the night in Dubai?

Dennis,

People do charter boats here but not from the hotel. It cost around 120-150 per head for 4 -5 people depending on the place you leave.

I my self have only been once on a boat trip here and have been fihsihg for the last 1 year or so. Its better to wait till it cools down and then go for a boat trip.

I would let you know if we plan to go for fishing on early Friday moornining.

Dennis,

Where do you live. There a lot of shops in Deira. You may not find typical flyfihsing stuff but may be you could find some alternates.

I have seen some really light and long rods at dragon mart, may be they are for flyfishing.

There are 3 shops in Dragon mart. If you want to go to the deira shops, then i could take you there. my number is 050-8553820

I have never tried that before would love to do it. I called a couple of hotels but they charge a lot for the boat and it doesnt make sense if it is only me and my wife on it. Regards

Hi Dennis,

Im an avid fan of shrimps/ prawns. However, you can also used squid and sardines.

If you use squid at Creek and Makhtoum bridge, then you would get alot of cat fish.

Hi Amir,
Thank you once again for the info, I would like to go fly fishing but the thing is i cant find a fly fishing rod, reel and fly line here in Dubai, I've looked in and called all most all the tackle shops in Dubai, I had even been to Dragon mart hoping i would find a chinese make but no luck, Any way i just wanted to know if using mackrel as bait is good around this area. And have you used it before coz i tried it once and the damn thing comes of while casting, but the other day i read on the internet that soaking the full mackrel in salt water for atleast a day or two would make the flesh a little tough and make it easy to cut in strips. What baits do you use for shore casting along the creek and beach?

hi dennis,

the fish you are talking is a terrapoon. its grey / silver in colour with dard green / black stripes moving from its tails towards its head. they are all season fishes. plenty of them available in creek park and makhtoum bridge area. they are very good fighters.

for fly fishing try out the area around marina. i havent done any flyfishing but have heard people catching barras and gar fish there.

Thanks a lot Amir,
I have a fishing license and i have been to the creek once before, and that is when i was checked for the license, i never had one that time so i immediately applied and got one now. Since its too hot now i decided to go after a month or so. It was last month i was fishing on the creek when i caught a fish that had green stripes on it, the stripes were in the shape of a circle around the fish,i just caught the same type of fish over and over agian. Do you have any idea what fish it is? i used prawns as bait. I am from south India a hill station and i do alot of fly / float fishing there for trout and carp. Just a picture of me back home with a carp.

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

There are a few spots in & around dubai. However, do remember that you need a fishing license to fish in Dubai.

You can try out the Creek park, Al Makhtoum Bridge, Al Seef area, Jumeira breakwater (opposite Dubai Zoo), Marina Breakwater (near Sheraton Hotel) never fished there, Mamzar (Sharjah side). If you are able to get fish or not depends on your luck as its very hot at the moment.

We did manage to get some terrapoons & breams from Makhtoum bridge and afew cat fish and a queen fish from Alseef area last friday morning.

Got nothing to do, to kill time....played the fishing game, managed to get to level 17 and then......that's it!

Level 18 was just a blank screen.

The result stats are as follows;

Level 17
remaining poles : 9
Score : 618/15173

Hi Amir,

The PE rating refers to the "load" rating. PE1 rating on a fishing rod will mean that the rod is meant to hold the stress of having maximum 10lbs line whereas PE2 will be for those rods which are designed to handle the stress/load exerted by 20lbs line.

These ratings doesn't necessarily mean that they will be able to hold deadweights of the same mass. PE2 rods should be able to handle fishes up to 5kgs bearing in mind that they will create greater drag when they are alive and swimming.

From my own personal experience, having light tackle set up is really fun. At least we are giving a chance for the fish to fight.....for a while.

Unless aiming for really big fish, while bottom fishing, PE3 (max 30lbs line)is more than enough in these waters. As for trolling, PE4-5 rating should suffice.

Cheers!

Hi Abdul,

Can you explain what does PE rating mean. Does this have to something with the strenght of the rod, reel & line or its someting else.

Hi Abdul,

If this guys name is either Bassar or Karim (some German guy) its a waste of time and money they have no spots but many excuses. I'd rather cast off the rock then go with them. But best of luck and wishes if it is not them :-) and hope you have a great catch.

Planning to organise one from Sharjah next weekend, Aug 29th......last one before Ramadhan.

Let me know if anyone interested. I was told that the boat is able to accomodate upto 10 with toilet facility. Will be about AED200/angler.

Went out for some sea fishing with the gang comprising of Ashley, Kim, Kit, Mohammed and myself.

Left the diving village, near Shindagha at around 6.15a.m. First few spots were not very productive. sea was as flat as a mirror with light gust of wind which was quite pleasant. The temperature was quite bearable as compared to the city.

We then arrived at a spot which was literally "infested" with baraccudas. We were pulling them out of the water non-stop using jigs. Kit was the best jigger while I was the worst one as I lost three of my favourite jigs to the baraccudas :-(

At the next few spots, we caught Sheries, Sultan Ibrahims and Breems.

Total catch was about 30kgs, which was quite good considering the curent temperature and also the water tide level as there was almost no current during most part of the session. We returned at around 12.30p.m.

Cheers!

Hi Sultan,

Yes, I read the post about your trip.

I am not sure about the gate number but its the first gate (if you come from Makhtoum bridge). When we get in the park, there is a Pier sort of area, where they tie a few wooden boats (for joy rides).

As I am off on thursdays & fridays, I would be going again on this thursday at around 4p.m.

I usually go to Creek park at around 4pm as the water is usually at high tides at this time.

How strong of an action do you wish to have? Got few extra rods with me which I want to let go at cost price.

2) Slightly used rod....excellent for fishes upto 2-3kgs. Soft action about 6' in length, 2 piece (mid jointed), comes with a normal aluminium body reel (Made in Korea), 5ball bearings+1roller bearings spooled with about 120yds of 30lbs Tuf Line braid - AED120

3) PE5 rated rod....excellent for fishes upto 10-12kgs. Good enough for trolling use (if used with a heavy duty spinner). Medium/heavy action 5'8" in length, 2piece (butt handle jointed) with fuji alconite rings and comes along with a hard carrying tube - AED480.

Hi Amir,

Nice to hear about your catches despite the current heat.

Do believe that during these days, when the gusts wind is very strong and considerably rough sea conditions, we should limit our fishing activities to the shore.

Additionally, the fishes are also seeking shelter from the rough seas thus more of them near the shores/inland canals.

Cheers!

I think the season is starting off though it is pretty hot still.

Yesterday went to Creek park. The water was on the higher side and plenty of nagroors of more than 0.5 kgs.

As I did not have alot of bait so left in 45 minutes but managed to get 3 nagroor weighing in total about 2kgs.

There was another guys fishing with a float with bread as bait. By the end of day he must has caught atleast around 8-10 kgs of fish.

Good to hear that you managed a good catch.

Can you also provide other details such as how much did the trip cost, what bait you used and the size of you catch. What time did you leave and get back.

Every one else here is hibernating as its very hot now.
