Hi Roldan thanks for the info on ADH licence. Do they check much??? Could i get away with being an ignorant Dubai dweller? I've been told from one resource that if i live in DXB i cant get an ADH licence anyway? Cest la vie. for now i'll make my aquaintances with DXB shoreline and see how i go over the next few weeks. Also where do we all buy our consumables from in DXB?? Wire, hooks, line, dacron, leader, weights etc. Rods and reels seem 10 a penny, even ACE hardware have started selling ugly sticks!!!! regards lee |

Hi Guys thanks for the welcomes and info. On the licence front, i went to municipality and they told me to apply online, so off i went and did that. On the online application it asks how many rods and hooks per rod. i put down 3 rods and was rejected. reason given that, and i quote "the licence is restricted only for one rod/line with 2-3 hooks (2-3 being the usual generic instead of specific, are we allowed 2 or 3, cest la vie ha ha). so if i go past ghantoot and fish the inlets i need an ADH licence?? Can i apply online, or can i get away with being ignorant showing them the dxb licence. (acctually i was told by the municipality that you don't get a licence anymore as the printer is broken, so a print out stating licence approval is enough) again, thanks for the info, and i'll keep you posted on the atlantis excursion, hopefully within the coming week. Cheers Lee |

Hi Lee & Mohammad, All emirates require fishing licenses which are free except ADH where there is an annual fee. The fact is that other emirates except Dubai and ADH are not strict in checking. As far a two rods are concerned, you may use as many as you feel like. I have been fishing in and around dubai since three years but have been only checked once that too in the creek. I havent fished near the atlantis. For the UAQ, I could not arrange for a boat therefoe no going. Let me know if any of you guys have one. Regards Amir |

Hi Lee. Welcome I never knew we need a license to fish with rods, i fish with rods from the rocks for past 3 years never was asked for a license. Shrimp, sardine and calamari are most common baits here. |

Hi Guys i've just managed to get my fishing licence yesterday and thought i'd do a bit of research on where & when to fish in the uae, and came accross this gem of a forum. Anyhow, as i don't have a boat (open to donations) i guess i'll be fishing from the beaches or rocks. My tackle consists of a couple of Silstar crystal tip rods, a couple of ugly sticks , 2 X garcia ambassadeur 7001 reels, an ambassadeur 5600C4, which i use for light lure fishing and a couple of egg beaters. I'm keen to get the reels oiled and rigged up, but stuck for choice of where to go. i live in Safa, and after reading the hot spots on this forum, i find no mention of anyones experiences fishing off the rocks near the Atlantis hotel or even if it's allowed from there. all input appreciated pls. i guess my first question then is what bait, lures etc to fish from the rocks here. Also i noticed the fishing licence i have is only for one rod... do the municipality hand out fines if i use 2 rods??? at the weeknds i'm happy to travel anywhere in the uae to fish so any secret hotspots forthwith will also be greatly appreciated. well enough from me, and i hope to meet up with a few of you guys in the not too distant future. cheers lee |

Hello Adam and others, I have been watching your posts with great interest. I am an avid fly caster too (and fish with spinning and casting gear as well), and am moving to Abu Dhabi in early June. I will be bringing my gear with me when the movers bring it. I have been traveling to Abu Dhabi often since August, 2007 and have been watching for spots to fish. I would like to find some folks to fish with over the next couple of years, as none of my work colleagues are much into our pursuit. So I will continue to watch the board and perhaps we can get out this summer. Keep up the great reports - Kevin T. |

Afternoon all Ventured out again fly fishing meeting up with a new fly fishing buddy Armand from Dubai. We all set off in convoy and arrived at the spot to find it like a circus full of people fishing which to be honest i found unusual as it's normally quiet here. Very windy today and not ideal for casting however we fished on. We were fishing low tide into high tide today which allowed us to walk the flats and i have to say it was breath taking to be in such beautiful surroundings and with the winds blowing the currents and what little water there was there from one flat down onto another, it was like being stood in a river somewhere...awesome. Armand ventured off into the distance to explore the hunting ground and myself, bryan and Harry fished on. After 30 mins or so of fishing with little luck, i decided to head off into what was the distance that Armand had put between us all and him. I eventually walked up alongside Armand and we cast and fished for about 30 mins before i lost my leader and had to head back to rig up another. On the way back i cast in my line with a clouser and hooked into a preety decent sized needle fish, these fish are awesome little fighters and are like runaway trains when they get hooked dancing along the surface like a marlin! I repeated this process around 6 times all morning and into the afternoon catching one needle fish after the other. Bryan who was now next to me also hooked into a decent sized needle fish as well and then into a queen after. The wind had died later which made better casting and the tide was once again begining to rise filling up the flats. It was though now time to head back home. I later found out that Armand had managed to hook and land a 7lb Milk fish on an algae fly pattern and on the first run it stripped his line down to the backing.....!!! he also lost a second milk fish and I was kicking myself for leaving early after i heard this although i now need to tie up some Algae flies for next week... Sadly no pics guys as my camera has packed up due to the kids getting hold of it! Another lovely days fishing here in the UAE. Tight lines. Adam |

Well, i did wonder whether i was going to be able to get out fishing this weekend after the thunder and lightning storm last night. I woke up this morning and still seeing rain at 6am thought to myself whether it would be wise heading out. Still a bit of rain never did anyone any harm i thought and so with my fishing clothes on, i grabbed a coffee and headed down to the car grabbing my tackle and camera along the way. After stopping to pick up my fishing buddy Harry, i was still wondering whether the clouds would break. 360 degrees into the sky, things were not looking promising with pure grey everywhere! Anyway, on we went and passing through Mussafah we arrived at our spot. After setting up the rod for fly fishing, Harry was bottom fishing (no funny jokes please..), i cast out about 25-30 ft and on the 2nd draw back of the line “GET IN THERE” , i was into a fish. From the mediocre fight it gave i thought it must be a small queen fish and sure enough after a few minutes of playing the fish, it was indeed a queen. Fly used: White clouser with red gills.
I repeated this process around 4 more times landing queen after queen on the same fly. After an hour or so of being there, the clouds parted and out came the sun. I couldn't help but break into a little rendition of "the sun has got his hat on" as i hooked into another queen. Although i wouldn't admit that i you asked me..... After a short break for a drink and a twirl (the chocolate bar..) i decided to try another fly, sticking with the clousers, i chose this time one with green flash with yellow gills. 20 mins past and nothing, 30 mins , 35 mins and then "GET IN THERE" into another fish, this one felt much bigger and heavier on the rod and the reel screamed off 5 ft of line, i reeled in the spare line trailing around my feet and got all the line back onto the reel to play the fish. This i though at first was a large queen fish but after 15 minutes of reel screaming and then backing back up onto the beach, i had landed an approx 1 kg sea bream. Lovely fighting fish these and to date my best fighting fish and largest fish on fly here in the UAE.
The tide had started to ebb now and as the water was lowering, i rolled up the shorts and waded out further into the ocean. The next hour was spent hooking into oversized needle fish which when hooked up dance across the surface like a Marlin. The sun had come out in full force by now and i was glad i had decided to venture out. I had a thoroughly enjoyable mornings fishing. Tight lines Adam |

Hi Jay Sorry to hear you had no luck in Mussandam! The dolphins sound like they gave you some enjoyment though! Amazing creatures! I headed out fly fishing again last weekend although the weather sucked everywhere i believe and it was very over cast. We also fished during low tide which was even more unproductive(i always fish mornings). Not a very big report this week and the pictures i up load are a bit blurry but basically caught 3 breams on a clouser fly. Hope this weekend is better..! Adam

Hi Adam, Thanks for the detailed response. Tried calling you but i guess you were busy. I would defintely try out a kayak before i get one. As I weight around 100 kgs, just wondering if it would be stable in the water. Will definitely get in touch with you. Regading the inflatable roof rack. Are these universal (i mean i have a toyota rav 4, would the roof rack fit on it. Also if you could advise the cost of these roof racks. thanks |

So headed out this week with Bryan, Mohammed, Reinhard and Harry to a spot on the way towards Tarif. Been here a few times in the past and it’s good for shore fishing or kayaking. There is a lot of action both close in by the bank or further out into the ocean. Met up early morning in Khalifa City B where i collected Bryan from. Following behind me was Mohammed and co. We arrived at our fishing spot at 7.45am which is a bit later than usual but we soon made up for lost time. I deceided to do some fly fishing this week and one great thing about fly fishing is that you don’t need a lot of tackle, just a rod, reel, some leader and your flies. Very light weight set up needed unlike the traditional shore fishing when you need weights, hooks, etc etc. So, i set up the fly rod and put on a clouser, red and white in colour with some silver flash. I cast into the water and began a slow long retrieve. Nothing, picked up the spare line and cast again, few more long slow retrieves and bang, into fish. I had forgotten what a rush it is to catch a fish on a fly fishing set up. When the fish strikes, your finger is pulled forward and then all hell brakes loose and the reel starts screaming off line…what a buzz at 8.15am…! A few minutes later and i landed a small queen fish. This was my first fish to catch on a fly in salt water and boy did the little thing pull. It reminded me of catching trout back home in Lancashire at my local fly fishery, Bank House. Bryan after a few casts also got into a fish on fly and then a few casts later and Mohammed was into a queen fish from spinning. All morning we fished and we managed to catch between us over 20 queen fish! We also lost around a further 15 fish as they unhooked themselves before we managed to get them to shore. All the fish were put back apart from 2. I lost my set up 3 times due to snagging which left me with few flies less in the box but well worth it for the morning we had. I’ll be back there next week for more for sure! I will have flies for sale that catch fish by the end of the week…..if anyone is interested contact me on adamharvey14@hotmail.com if you want to see some pics of the flies and for the prices. Tight lines Adam

Hi Alex, First of all, i suggest that you need to check the language u are using on a public forum like this. Few of my points for u. 1- I guess, there are very few people left on this forum who contribute constructively. The forum is become a picture album for people to show their catches proudly without disclosing the required details which could help other angler. 2- You should always browse through the old / previous posts, as there is alot of information which has already been discussed on the forum. 3- The shore fishing spots in dubai do not provide good size fishes anymore. however, below are some spots. a- Under makhtoum bridge (u might be checked for a license) b- Under Garhoud bridge c- along the creek d- Jumeira break water- opposit dubai zoo. this is a rocky place, u would lose alot of tackle. e- Dubai marina breakwater. - next to Marina Sheraton hotel f- Dubai Mamzar - not very active these days g- Sharjah mamzar side - u could get good sized catches if u are patient h- Under the Bridge next to Sharjah fish market If you are still unable to get fish in any of these places, then the best place is Dubai / Sharjah fish market Due to work committments, I am not able to contribute to the forum actively. As I had borrowed all the equipment from my cousin (Ali Mufti), therefore, all I can say about the tacke is that the reel was a daiwa spinning reel with a 20 pound line. not sure about the rod. rgds amir |

Went out on a last minute trip on Sunday morning with Capt. Faizan A.K.A Only catch don’t release . . . . Phillip joined in on the action. We left at around 5.30am headed out of Marbella resort in SHJ and out to sea after about 30 kilometers we reached a spot and jigged for a while with feathers then saw some bait fish and decided to troll for a while but to no luck. We then decided to do some bottom where we got many small humors. We then saw bait fish near by which happened to swim right toward us and within no time were under our boat. We picked up our casting gear and within seconds Philip and myself hooked up on Queen fish. Philip and myself both were using light tackle casting rod. I was using a Shakespeare Medium action 8ft casting rod coupled with my Diawa CladiaKix 4000 and 30lb braid. Ohh what a wonderful feeling it was to feel the raw power of the Queenie. I landed my Queen and Philip lost his at Gaff . . .We then ended up chasing the Queens all day long . . we would search for the bait fish stop right in the middle and cast like crazy . . Capt. Faizan landed some nice size Jesh on Sabaki feather so did Philip & I. I also hooked a Queen while jigging which was landed by Faizan. Through out the day we landed many Jesh, Lizard fish, Humors and Sarks. We also lost many battles as lines snapped and jigs and hooks lost. Capt. Faizan can be contacted on 050-6355257. Call him for booking trips as he has some really nice spots . . . The pictures speak for themselves. Tight Lines, Ashley

Hi Marc, I think, I had (earlier on) misunderstood your query. The Eupro Salty Fighter is a 2piece butt(handle jointed) rod measuring 6ft in length.......hope that answers your question. Ciao! |

Hi Marc, Like I mentioned in my posting before....I got 2(two) sets of the Eupro Salty Fighter rods. One had been taken by the SEAEXPLORER and still having one. Preffereably would like to let it go together with the Abu Garcia T-Pro 6500 baitcasting reel. Will give special price for the set.....no UNREASONABLE offer will be refused. Cheers! |
