Boats are focusing on rockfish/rockcod trips as local conditions turned over and the local tuna season is pretty much over. Best bet for planning a trip focusing on tuna and exotics out of the San Diego fleet is book early. Best shot at an overnighter scoring best is about mid Aug to mid Oct. The tuna window varies year after year on a number of conditions but generally the fisherman stop fishing before the tuna quit biting as seen last month (October 2009). The best shot at tuna for fall is head out on a long range trip for 5 days or more - 10 dayers popular trips - fishing the Baja Coast. This is the start of the Giant Yellowfin Tuna "cows" season for fish to 400lbs - a 357lb was caught off Cabo a few weeks back. Thats the scoop for the San Diego scene. Albacore on the chew in San Diego. Best fleet score yesterday! Fish are at 31 25 / by 118 10 best of luck The fish are moving a lot on a warm water edge. So pay attention to your sea temp gage. Most sportfishing boats have lots of room these days. |

I have resources throughout the San Diego fleet and help people find trips (openings and charters) Anyone looking for a late season run of Albies (nicer grade fish that gorge themselves on bait all summer) they been here the past week as of Aug.25 (2009). The Pacific Dawn as of Tuesday am has limits on the Albies and other boats out on 1 - 1.5 day runs are are scratching for a little of everything on the tunas. Sea Adventure 80, Condor and Legend are all boats running 1.5 - 2 dayers this week. Other fish in the mix and popular targets this time of year are the exotics Yellowfin Tuna, Big Eye Tuna & even Bluefin Tuna (the big 3 best sashimi tunas), Dorado and Yellowtail. For 6 pack charters I've had consistent good feedback on Dana Landing's Impulse, Blackjack (4 pack center console Florida style boat)and next door at Seaforth the El Gato Dos and Alexes both reputable and family friendly boats who treat you like they want you to fish with them again. One last note on the open party local 3/4 day trips the Malihini at H&M Landing or the Chubasco 2 and San Diego over in Mission Bay are all good choices for the local runs. Email me about more info on any of these boats or anything else about the San Diego open party/charter sportfishing fleet. Thank you. Rob Mailly SportfishSanDiego.com |

Well good afternoon all Very good fishing was had today, our 25 anglers. The morning started of at the rocks for some yellow tail action and they didn't disappoint it’s seem they showed up in force but for our efforts we only managed to hook and land 4 the sea lions are terrible. So we left the rocks in search of other fish and found some calico bass that wanted to bite a little bit after that we went back in to the sea lion den and found three more yellows that wanted to bite the hooks. We left there after about a hour and went south a little ways and my the yellow wanted to put on a show and some of them showed off to much and got hooked and we landed 14 more to end the day so the counts for today’s fishing as follows 25 anglers 21 yellow tail up to 18 pounds 54 bonito 24 San bass and 10 calico bass 3 Over all the fishing is really great the weather has been awesome the past two days and the weather man predicts a beautiful weekend. Remember the number 619-222-1144 make your reservation come on down and lets keep this bite going Until tomorrow have a great fish day |
