capt dave, like so many business, they shoot themselves tripping over quarters to pick up nickels. twice i read in a fish report that the stripers were chasing bait and i made the trip out there only to witness a all boat shunk. every boat on the lake. i pull into the mariana and ask the workers if they have seen anything and they told the truth. " lakes been dropping and they had not seen a thing in days" so it may have came from higher up then workers. i dont know and have not been back out in a month. i have to agree with stickman and say that the info from this board is pretty much hands on and correct. |

sadly dave more and more it seems fishermen are the only ones who care about fishermen and we still find a way to fight with each other. i am very happy to have this board and this group of guys to share knowledge with thank you all |

Hugh, the Marina workers at San Antonio and Naciemento have no expirence. When Forever took over they didn`t rehire the expirenced people but went with minimum wage bodys. They don`t care about the fishermen. Capt Dave |

i have tried to trust the mariana report to no avail. they will tell you they are biting when they are and say they are biting when they are not. |

has anyone tried a pencil popper for the stripers ,i know down at pyramid res they used to work like crazy when they planted trout at the launch ramp ,it was usually 20 mins after they released the trout it was like ringing a dinner bell and these 20 lb stripers were going wild |

ive only been once this year for no fish also they were crashing on bait everywhere around me though. i got a couple small nibbles but the shad were so thick that night you could feel them hitting your line in the water. my best nights have been with no moon and and slight breeze |

Hey, are there any Albacore running out of Morro Bay? I wanted to go this weekend, but it sounds like the water is getting cold. Is it worth it this season? |

Cloud, the time to strike is now, they are weak. It`s all about the economy and shutting down a part of ours for 5 months is a sin. I made a living running the Diablo. Bought a house in Cambria and raised my kids. Can`t be done now, It`s tea party time. Capt Dave |

One can only wonder if we would have fared better if we refused to participate or acknowledge this giant scam called the MLPA like Prof Hillborn alluded to when he said: Without participation, there is no management. How long will we let so few control so many is the question that needs to be asked... |

If anyone is interested in making a big smoker, I have an insulated Stainless Steele food cart, heating element and some other stuff that I was making a big smoker out of. I would like to get $100 bucks for. Pretty much all you need for a big smoker less the smoke generator which is easily purchased on the internet. Not sure how to post pictures but can email them if you want. Give me a call Jim 610-4498 |

Jim/ Cracka re: fishing the isalnds, We fished Tallcot on the west end of Rosa on Mon. in great weather for limits of quality reds, chuckelheads, one legal ling, some huge whitefish and two 10-12 lb. sheephead (released). All fish were caught in less than 80 ft. of water on jigs tipped w/squid. Best bets for quality fish and variety are the most western islands Rosa and Miguel. Just make sure you know where the MLPA,s are. The fishing is great but it is a long run, 32nm from SB to the place we fished mon. I don't have the numbers on hand but if you head out on a 215 Mag heading from SB it will get you to the west end of Rosa and the rocks are pretty easy to meter in a broad area. Good luck if you go but watch the weather like Tim says. The west end of the channel can get pretty nasty. |

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=CA&district=23 Jeff, Et al; It is time to start at the top. If these three can be voted out of office with a strong message to their replacements that we are "mad as hell and won't take it anymore" It could just be the beginning of a turn around. The "Trickle down theory" may work in politics too. Let the 2010 elections be lesson to all of our representatives that we want real representation and if we don't get it out they go. |

Dave Maybe we should start a tea party for this no reason we can't add this. Have you seen any reduction in our fishing licenses. Maybe if everyone took a year off I know hard to do, and do not buy hunting or fishing licenses. Plus no boat license fee (TAX). I wonder how much revenue the State would loose when they could least afford it. I know I'm asking and doing research on our next Governor. And get involved the problem is we have been silent and got what we deserved. SO GET INVOLVED THIS IS A WAKE UP CALL PEOPLE! |

No luck at San Antonio Lake but I watched at least 5 being caught. There is a lot of bait near the shouth shore launch ramp and fuel dock. I fly lined live bait that is easy to snag with a trebble. the nice weather wore out a couple of 6 year old boys and my 4 year old daughter who were just as happy snagging shad with trebble hooks as catching big striper. Heading back tomorrow afternoon to try the afternoon and night bite without the kids... |

Hey Charles, We'll get together soon for Margaritas, ceviche, and of course BEER!!! Here's a recipe I just used on some YFT and yellowtail for smoking. It's for 10-15 pounds of fillets or steaks: 16 oz (2 cups) water, 1/2 cup non-iodized salt (may use less), 1/2 cup brown sugar, 8 oz (1 cup) soy sauce, 8 oz (1 cup) apple juice, 2 Tbsp black pepper, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp celery salt, 1 tsp(?) cayenne pepper (may use more or less depending on how spicy you like it), dash of fresh ground dill if available. Brine the fish for 8 hours, VERY LIGHTLY rinse under cold tap water, lay out on paper towels to dry for 2 hours (you can use a fan to help this process). After fish develops a sheen (or pellicle or skin) and is tacky (not wet) to the touch, load it into smoker for 6 to 8 hours, depending on how moist you like your smoked fish. Bon Apetite!!! |

Paul and I ran into each other at Bahia Asuncion. We had never met before then and had a good laugh that you run into a fellow SLO county fisherman 1,000 miles from home. Bahia Asuncion is a great place to go in the fall. The fishing was wide open when we were there. Yellow tail, Yellow Fin Tuna and the largest Calico Bass I had ever seen. Lots of fishing opportunities even if the wind is blowing. There is an island very close to the launch area and another 6 miles away. Most of the commercial fishing in this area is for Lobster, Abalone and snails. Very little commercial pressure for anything else and that is why the fishing is so good. The Convina fishing from shore was almost a fish a cast. With the big ones approaching 6 lbs. Shelley caught a few really nice ones. Be sure to give BA a try in the fall. That is prime time for pelagics. And again the Big Calicos are there year round. Most of the Calicos I caught were over 5 lbs. |
