Hi All, Went Fishing early friday morning. Went to the place mentioned by Abedzz about 5 am. Saw that there were people camped out and fishing so decided to move on to a different spot near Hamriya town. Spent about 3 hours fishing there. Caught 1 large Sheri (about 1.5-2Kgs) and a few small ones. All in all a good day. |

Hello I see people looking for fishing grear,so here is a idea.If you head to the Sharjah Cornish almost to the Redison SAS Hotel there is a small strip mall with about four or five fishing stores, the place I went to yesterday was A LOT cheaper than carrfour and they had everything you could need. They call them fishing and hunting trading stores |

Simoen here's the location for tht beach at Ajman ..... first u go to Ajman ... pass over city center bridge and keep on gonig straight forward (so far) until you see Enoc petrol station on both sides (Right & Left).... u keep on going straight till u face the first U-Turn. u make a U-turn and go back to enoc tht is found on the left side .... u dont enter to enoc, pass enoc and in a couple of meters u'll find a right turn .... go throught it .... n from here u'll have to go straight again until u'r infront of a round about... take left and keep heading straight until u see a deadline ... by deadline i mean the beach... its really hard to get there.. but its worth it.... goodluck with finding the location .... Hi, I have been living out the UAE for the past couple years, and I will be returning in the next month or two. I have noticed alot of people batteling to find good tackle at a decent price. I am playing with the idea of bringing in a large amount of tackle when i return to sell in the UAE. But before i do so i need to know that it will actually be worth my while, so i was hoping any potential buyers could give me some info. What terminal tackle are popular or successful and hard to find in the UAE. How much do Storm, Halco and Rapala lures cost. Any suggestions and price information would be greatly appreciated. |

Hi guys, Managed to sneak a couple of hours fly fishing yesterday on Ajman breakwater. Really good fun, plenty of spotted snapper, a trevally and some barracuda. Its a really nice spot. You need to travel towards ras al khaimah and follow the signs for Archirodron construction. Its a bit of a walk to the end but worth it. I'm sure the guys with float and ledger gear will have plenty of Shaeri etc. Tight lines Dave H |

Pleased to tell you that Martin James had a good day as well yesterday including a leather back queen fish, dorado and a bonita. Fishing is still good on the East Coast. Regards. |

The man took my drivers licence and gave me a summons. I have to go to the Municipality to get my licence back (and pay a fine if they think I deserve one). They had a bunch of other guys who weren't carrying the right ID with them on City's boat and were off carting them to the Police Station. Given the jaw-dropping lack of administrative talent in this region, I wouldn't doubt if the state of affairs in Dubai isn't that you need a valid licence to fish but they are not renewing or giving out any licences. A ban by any other name....? Am planning on going to the Municipality building this week with our PRO (a big fishing enthusiast) and sorting things out. Will keep you posted. I was hooked under the Maktoum Bridge. |

Hi Guys, Just checked with the fishing licence section of the Municipality and the guy there said that they were at present not renewing licences and those with expired licences can continue to use them. I have been trying to renew my licence since October 2005. I have had guys telling me that there are always checks especially at the Hyatt area. Nowhere else has Municipality checks been reported. Maximus, the guy was practicing CAR (Catch and Release). BTW when and where were you caught and what did the guy ask you?? Cheers Heber www.fishing.invisionplus.net PS: The number of the licensing department is: 04-2064260 The number of the Municipality |

As a public service announcement, just want to give everyone a heads up that contrary to what you may have heard (or been told at a specialty fishing store) Dubai municipality is enforcing its "no fishing without a fishing license" rule. Was caught and released myself this weekend. |

Hi Guys, Sorry I have been a bit out the loop so to speak but some sick person decided that I have to work for a living too. There are still a few openings for the up comming fishing clinic at the Meridian in Fujh. We will get together on the 22nd of Feb and it will either be at the Dubai International Marine Club or at our Villa complex near the Knowledge Village/Wellington School just of Zheikh Zayed road! Please mail me on ajandj9@emirates.net.ae if you would like to attend we will probably have some snacks and drinks and a good time! Bring some money! We spend the day with WWF yesterday and they told us that a marine conference will be held in Dubai in September over 4 days so watch the press. Please support catch and release and have a good week ahead! |

Thanks for the replies, in the meantime I found tackedirects website and ordered a load of stuff. It arrived in good time, 3-4 dyays and would have been a day sooner had the UPS driver known how to find the Sheraton! Been out in Abu and caught a few small cod, Shari and what we would call trevally type things. All good. I am interested in boat charters, we have a few lads here that are keen too. AJ will see how I go with the club and thanks for the info....... |

Newbius Maximus, The corniche at Ras Al Khaimah. Guess the tide there should be almost the same as in Dubai/Sharjah. Here's some info: THE BEST TIMES to fish are when the fish are naturally most active. The Sun, Moon, tides, and weather all influence fish activity. For example, fish tend to feed more at sunrise and sunset. During a full Moon, tides are higher than average and fish tend to feed more. However, most of us go fishing when we can get the time off, not because it is the best time. But there are best times, according to fishing lore: One hour before and one hour after high tides, and one hour before and one hour after low tides Cheers, Heber www.fishing.invisionplus.net |

Heber I look at the papers for high and low tides (usually in the weather section). Friday high tide is scheduled to be around 9:30AM. Which corniche are you talking about? Good luck on Friday. |

Hi Troy, Did some good fishing at the corniche entrance. Some sheris, catfish and sting ray. The sting ray we sent it back into sea. I saw guys fishing with sabiki hooks baited with shrimps. Which is the best time to fish there and how do you go about the tides?? Do you get the tides on the net?? We're planning to come over for a full day on Friday with the family. Great Resource and appreciate all the traffic and great advice on this site. Just two questions (which may be dumb questions, but here goes): (i) most of the fishing people are doing seems to take place over-night (midnight to early morning) why is that; (ii) went fishing in Oman (on the beach between the Hyatt and the Intercon) which was a long gently sloping beach (50 meters in and water still only above my waist) is fishing possible on such beaches? If so, what rigs would you use. I guess thats three (dumb) questions. Any advice appreciated. |

Hi all, It seems that we are having a lot of questions in reference to fishing regulations. Maybe it should be a point for the fishing club to take up to find out the regulations in each emirate. Simon, a popular fishing spot in sharjah is next to the ladies club. there is a small breakwater there that fishes well when the sea is calm enough. tight lines Dave H |

Hello finding a spot to fish can not be this hard especially since im surrounded by water. I thought I had found a good spot behind Tawwuun mall, but then a guy in a offical looking truck [green seal on side]tells me there is no fishing allowed there and I point to the big red sign that says no nets which im not using, but he says its a misprint and the and the ruler of sharjah has inpossed this, but the funny thing is there are about 10 other people fishing next to me and he says they know, but they are not moving so at the end he says since you are having a nice day go ahead and fish today[the guy was nice about it].Any Ideas on this one. Thanks |

Hi Simeon, Used to fish at Mamzar a couple of years back and used to get some decent size fish until fishing was banned there. However, I see people fish from the fenced area close to the park. I went there last week past midnight and tried my luck, nothing. There was another guy fishing too and he said that he used to get good sheri (spangled emperor) from the rocks close to the fenced area. Abdallah: I did visit Dragon Mart and yes they have quite long rods good for surfcasting or for the safi behing Hyatt. However, the quality of the stuff they have there are not of good quality. As I said earlier, they are good for those who want to go for light shore fishing with the family or for those who want really cheap stuff. Even the trawling rods will not take on heavy fish. I would'nt buy stuff there except for the crab basket...and maybe a rod for my little girl when she starts fishing (in about 2 years). Reports say RAK beaches are good for surfcasting and guess you went at the wrong time as the see has been rough for the past few days. If you give me directions to the place you went, I'll try to make it sometime. Cheers, Heber www.fishing.invisionplus.net |

Hi All, So many questions and so little time. Regarding the pompano's they might be from the Omani side of the coast, they hold in deeper water and then move into the shallows with the tides, where they feed on crabs mostly over shallow sand banks and then move off with the tides. Look for them in the shallows on a pushing tide sometimes when they feed they tilt down and the black tails can be seen sticking out of the water. They get spook very easy so approach slowly. They are incredible figters on light tackle and on fly rods! Their numbers are falling so please try and protect them by fishing with barbless hooks and release them after a nice photo! If you need to know about the Sharjah area mail questions to dave holley he knows that area well. Good fishing tackle is a bit of a problem but on line shopping is probably best, try www.tackledirect.com the UPS or Fedex cost might be a bit much but they will have it in the UAE within 3 days of ordering. We are setting up a Sport Fishing club in the UAE, to among other things, assist new commmers to this area. We welcome all forms of Sport fishing. Watch this site for updates on our get together planned for WED 22 Feb it will be in the Dubai area email me if you would like any other info, AJ ajandj9@emirates.net.ae |

Hi there everyone, I have been reading a few of the posts for the last half an hour. Great to find something on the UAE. I am living in Abu Dhabi and have been out with gear I brought over from NZ. Just spinnig and a bit of bottom fishing. I have found a few shops here, good for tackle but I snapped my graphite spinning rod today and don't know where to find another one. I can't find anything on the net even in Dubai. They must be there, quality gear shops. Silstar, Okuma, Shimano etc Can anyone help? |

Hi Sammy, There is some decent shore fishing to be had in RAK. Some of the spots are a hard to explain how to get to unless you know your way around RAK. One spot that is easy to get to is at the entrance to the corniche, but for larger fish make sure you fish into the sea not the corniche.. To get there follow the signs to the Hilton Beach Club but when you reach the sea turn left rather then right. I know these directions dont sound good but if you get to the hilton beach club you will easily see the entrance to the corniche. Or if you catch a taxi in rak and tell him to take you to the granada complex you will be close enough to walk. Hope this was of some help. |

Hi people, I'm coming out to Dubai for just 1 week in March and wanted to try some sea fishing. I'm a carp fisherman and don't usually do much sea fishing in the UK, I have done in the past and to be honest usually a waste of time and money. Can anyone give me any tips or point me in the right directions regarding cost and boat hire etc. you can email direct at markp@thomas-sinden.co.uk cheers! |

I have noticed a large number of Pompano in the local fish market, yet in many years of fishing in Ras Al Khaimah I have never caught one of these fine fish. Does anyone know if these fish are caught in the gulf or if they are imported from the east coast, and if they are caught in the gulf how you go about catching them. |

Good luck in muscat. the fishing there is great. I have fished from the shore there before without any trouble, don't think you need a license but may be worth checking with the fisheries department. Very rocky terrain under the water so be prepared to lose some tackle. tight lines Dave H |

Abdallah, Thanks for the info and am sure it will benefit those who are looking for cheaper stuff which then need to use for just a little while and the "not so serious" fishermen. I've found stuff at dragon mart to be of reasonable quality. Regards Heber www.fishing.invisionplus.net |

Hey guyz .... Last friday I made a visit to the Dragon Mart.. dont ask me about its location cuz i dont know :D .. n-wayz I found a shop that sells all types of rods, u can find a rod that is around 12 meters long out of the shops ceeling, take that as a mark :D ... I entered that shop and i was really happy to see this much amount of rods to select, and guess wat i found a trolling rod with some kinds of wheels placed in the place of those round metal things found in all rods ... and guess wat its price was ?? ---> 25 DHS dirhams<<--- and i was planning to get one from a shop in C.C Diera for 225 ... i know you would say the quality is different, but heey wat the hell ?? you can get 9 rods of that for 225 ... and use 1 for every fishing trip you make ... j/k :D ... wat i wanted to say tht begginers can go and get one from thier, just for beginning.... its u'r choice ... n-wayz I wanted to know wats the difference between having wheels and metal rings in the rods, wat benefit do u get when they are available ?? .... and are they suitable for fishing offshore ?? Thank you all ....... |

Dont mind me asking... but I need to be prepared in advance...lol...cheers.. |

Hi Guys, Had a great break . Camped out on the beach at Musandam for three days. Felt good out of the daily grind. Weather was simply great. Kevin and his pals of DIVE MANTA fixed a boat for us and took us bootom fishing off the coast close to the underwater shelves. Unbelievable action with Snappers, Trevally etc. WElcome change from trolling for king fish and such other predictable stuff. So guys if you need some arm wrenching action call Kevin at Dive Manta. And Thanks Kevin for the great time and thanks to your friends ( Mario & the Wiz Kid )for pulling us out of the sand every time the four wheel refused to behave as one. Tight Lines, Jeen |

Hi Guys, Hope you all had a good eid break. Managed to do a two day stint in Fujeirah. Had the best day with the dourado, 18 fish over the 2 days, all safely returned bar one unfortunate fish that was hooked in the eye. Also had some long tail tuna. Pics to follow. Lets all remember to get together on the 18th at AJ's meeting. Look forward to seeing you all. As for the fishmongers boat, hopefully we can start pulling a few strings to spread the news on catch and release and conservation as a whole. Unfortunately some people simply have no idea when it comes to conservation. tight lines Dave H |

Big fishes are rarly caught thier ....... check out da pics i posted ... for Catches in Hemriya. |

HI All, Spend the day with Wayne yesterday(East Coast Sportfishing) and took 4 Dorado on fly the last was a great fish in the 20 pound plus class. The greatest feeling is the fact that all 4 are swimming again and out there for my son and others to go and try for. DP 1272 Sucks! |

Hi everyone I trust that all sensible sports fishers will boycott this boat DP1272! Hopefully on my next visit I can meet up with these fishmongers and get the chance to talk with the skipper and point out the error of his ways. Doesn't he realise that we cannot keep on killing. I feel a very angry person this morning and I hope all those responsible choke on the bones Kind regards Martin |

Hello Dunc and all, It is always a pleasure having someone on board that enjoys the thrill of fly casting to some good fish! We have taken delivery of our new purpose built fly boat and what a boat! Been out with a couple of our regular punters and we have had some really good fish, lots of Dorado, Tuna and some giant Jacks. Yeaterday gave us 5 Dorado in around 5 hours. We also have all the gear avb, from 9wt, 10wt, 12wt and 14wt rods on the boat, so need for worries when the big ones are around. Sadly, after our trip yesterday, a Dubai boat came back with 44 Dorado on board DP1272! What they plan to do with all the DEAD fish, only they would know! We are sport fisherman, what you are not going to eat, release, please. Give everyone a chance to have fun in the sun. Sorry to end off whith such sad news, but we are ready with the right boat and all the right gear. Enjoy your fishing and tight lines, All of us at East Coast Fishing. |

Happy New Year Folks, Am unfortunately back to work after spending Xmas and the New Year out in the UAE. Took my fly rod and whilst I didn't catch anything big off the beach, I had a great time out on a boat. Headed out with my Uncle and Brother on Boxing day with Roger from West Coast Fishing Charters (he's actually ok for a Saffer!!!) The first couple of hours were slow as we trolled around the Tankers. Eventually we hit into A Dorado by the side of a Tanker. This landed We then broke out the fly gear. Casting at a tanker without a fish in sight I could sense an air of scepticism from my brother and uncle who don't fly fish-to be honest I was a little dubious as well! First cast a Dorado of about 6lbs appeared out from under the tanker! A couple of casts later this fish was hooked, and magically 3 or 4 more fish appeared! I suspect that if I wasn't the only one who was used to using a fly rod we could have cleaned up at this point! As it was we took two further FIsh. THe drill was for me to cast and strip then pass the rod over to my Uncle and Bro to have a crack with the fish on-they both agreed that it was far more than playing a fish on a damn great trolling rig! Both landed their first fish on fly - one of 16lbs and one of 17lbs! I must admit to being a little bemused that my fish was about a third of the size of theirs! Asides from the fish we hooked, we also saw at least two fish in the 25-30 lb range. Probably a good thing I didn't hook one of those on my Orvis 9wt as i suspect It would have made mincemeat of me!!! I was absolutely amazed by the Strength and speed of the Dorado-they matched a Salmon which to my mind takes some doing!!! I will post the photos when my Bro e-mails me them! Many thanks to you all for your advice on fishing in the UAE and in particular to Martin James whose advice was invaluable. Also thanks to Roger and Wayne for a great days fishing. Best Wishes Dunc March |

Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate all the people who helped me out and emailed me with advice. I went out fishing twice this weekend. Same spot near the GRand Hyatt. I caught 21 fish in a total of 6 hours of fishing (3 hours each morning). and now with this success I am hooked. I absolutely love it. I now have 2 poles with two separate rigs. 1 with a 6lb line and sabiki hooks on it. Bait that with Squid. the second with a 12lb line with large hooks and use sardines for bait. I ended up catching about 10 Garfish - which are a lot of fun as they fight hard for such a small fish. A mix of Sheri, Bream and Tilapia (I think - they were greenish with black vertical stripes) and 2 Large Barracudas. Biggest was about 18-20 inches. I was suprised with how little the barracuda's fought for such a large fish. Is this normal? I thought I might have injured them in some way. Anyway, I flattened the barbs again (which must have cost me about 6 fish) and I let them all go except for two Sheris (which became my lunch for the day). To put it lightly I am hooked. I love fishing and I think we should be doing our best to preserve them and practice catch and release as much as possible. - David |

Happy New Year Everyone, The club is shaping up for sure and I was very touched about the fact that members like Heber, Leng and Mushtaq actually called / mailed /met up with me sometime in the last week. For an amteur like me it is a great boost to have seniors' encouragement and tips and thanks to a forum like this...going by the great work been put in by pioneers like AJ, Martin, Heber and gang...the future of the club looks like it surely rests in able hands...I have also been getting emails from people who have visited my blog on the net, and they too have contributed to points such as representaion of facts and pictures and tips how and where pics would look good, how to photograph when light is bad...and a plethora of other feedback...it is only going to help me make my blog look better...thanks to all of you...I hope in the meanwhile that I can realise me dream of fishing from a boat one day...I am sure I will one day... Hi All. A happy New year to each and every one of you. The year ahead looks promising, with the Club shaping up and promise of some meaningful gettogethers. Been With the family celebrating the new year, barbecues and all. Did go out to check the new boat yesterday at day break . Nasty wind kicking in from the sea . No action at all not a single strike! But the wind and the cold air felt good with that slight burn of the cold air in your nostrils . looked like some one was blowing away the year 2005 in a hurry . Happy New Year Jeen |

Thanks all for the tips. I tried out every tip youll have sent me yesterday at the same spot I hit the last few times (harbour next to Hyatt Regency). I caught 12 fish of varying types and sizes. The biggest was a Milkfish abut 12 inches in length. Didnt have my digital camera so no pics. But did practice catch a release (also had the barbs onthe hooks flattened so the fish weren't hurt too much). Thanks for all the tips. I will be fishing tomorrow morning in Jumeirah. Will post a full report of that as well. Thanks again people. -David |

Hello fellow fishermen! I have just moved to Dubai from the States and really look forward to exploring the fishing here. My tackle gets here in about 3 weeks!! I have fished Southern California and Connecticut a lot and some in Baja Mexico. I would look forward to any information on fishing here in Dubai. Also would like to meet others with similar interests as my spouse is not a fisherperson nor are many in the office. Tightlines. |

David(mad hatter) The simplest way to catch fish from the shore here is to buy a set of sabiki hooks(available at all tackle shops), choose the hook size you want. Use 3 out of the 6 hooks and bait up with squid. Attach an appropriate sized sinker and cast away. Most of the fish you will catch will be Shaeri (scavenger) but changing bait to sardines could produce catfish or barracuda. I would personally create my own rigs but for basics this is a fail free method. The best advice I can give is to speak to the other fisherman at your spot, they will be more than friendly and will share their tips. Hope to see you at the meeting on the 18th for a chat tight lines Dave H |

Hi guys, Been busy for a while so not been able to post, hope you all had a great xmas. Managed to get down to fujairah yesterday. Plenty of dourado, bonito, a long tail tuna and horse mackerel. Once again the water was great. The fishing experience on the east coast in 10 times that of the west coast. Stll no sail fish though. The fishing of dubai & northern emirates has been pretty poor so far this season. The charter skippers have reported 2 sailfish all season. Plenty of kingfish(small) and the occasional smoker between umm al quawain and Hamriya gas harbour. I think its important to update each other on where the fish are biting. Understandably not all of us are fortunate enough to fish from a boat but there are plenty of great spots from the shore. Getting back to the issue of how poor the fishing has been over the last few years. I have fished here for over 20 years and the fishing used to be great, I recall having to come back in after 2 hours of a days fishing as I could not physically wind in anymore due to catching so many kingfish. Over fishing is a big problem in the gulf and so is construction. The dredging for island projects(palm etc.) has silted the water for 30 kms or more which I believe has forced the sailfish to bypass our coastline. A visit to the fish market in sharjah last week showed that local fisherman are still bringing in an abundance of juvenile fish. We all love fishing and it is great to pass on this skill to other people, in order to do this we need to share out knowledge, fishing spots and conserve our waters. Lets all ge together at the meeting arranged by AJ and plan a way forward. Individually we will not be heard but together we can have a strong voice. Happy new year to you all and tight lines. David, Guess there is something wrong with your technique as well as your outfit. Use a sinker instead of a float and try various sizes of hooks. The bigger fish you want, the bigger the hook. Instead of sardines and shrimps, try using squid. They last longer in water and don't easily escape into the fish as the other bait do. If you go to the fish market, you can buy halfbeaks/garfish/ballyhoos (pictures in the other forum) and they make excellent bait for all fish. You can cut them into two and use them for barracuda, king fish, etc. Squid is excellent for breams, sherrys etc. Float is good here for half beaks and milk fish. And remember, the other word for fishing is patience. Patience man.... Cheers Heber www.fishing.invisionplus.net |
