Today we enjoyed our third and last day fishing with Chad Remington at Frontier Charters in Sitka. We had easy limits of kings at the rock pile then ventured out to deep water to try for the big halibut. We caught only one 56lb fish in the hour we fished and returned to the rocks for plenty of black bass. Once again Mac at Frontier Charters took great care of us and I'm looking forward to next year's trip. Mac is now doing a gourmet affair in the late season fishing the river for coho; something the wives should enjoy. Bob Hather |

Another great day for King Salmon on the jig. Limits were easy to come by. One boat stopped on top of them and hooked five on the first drop. Salmon have been good size with an average of 25lbs. Bottom fishing and Halibut fishing was also good on fish in the 20-40 lb range. Most of the bottom fishing is being done with light gear(20 lb) and shallow water(200 feet.) For photos from today check out the picture gallery at www.frontiercharters.com Mac Huffman |

Great fishing for king salmon, sunny windy ocean conditions, and mixed results on bottom fishing and halibut. Pictured is Bob Hather with 34 lb king caught today. For additional photos from today check www.frontiercharters.com and click on the pictures link. Mac Huffman

Ask Mac at Frontier Charters. All I've seen are 27 ft charter boats. You will probably have to fish 4 and 4. Bob Hather |

Does anyone know if there is a fishing service in Sitka that has a boat that can accomodate 8 fishermen (4 adults and four kids)? Thanks |

Subject: Fishing report for the week
Lots of fish combined with comfortable sea conditions made for easy limits of both salmon and halibut this week. The fish were of average size(Halibut 20-60lbs and salmon 20-30lbs) but bite was consistently fast. Remains on target for the highest number of king salmon in years. |

Subject: Salmon at Shelicof
6 boats went out today in less than favorable conditions. The salmon fishing was good to excellant. With fish in the 30 lb range. The halibut fishing as a whole was slim with the exception of one lucky boat chartered by Bob Hather which landed 5. The largest of which was 108 lbs caught on twenty pound test salmon gear by Bob Hather.

Subject: Reel Affair charter did it again in Sitka
Tim of Reel Affair Charter did it for us again, there were four of us on a five day trip Aug. 16th through the 22nd. Four days was flat calm one day the sea gods were not good to us, did not do much that day. We got 90 Coho salmon, one 40lb King, not much for Kings up the river early this year. We only went out one day for Halibut and got 12 in about 2 hours. One 42lb Ling Cod. Next year I got two dates July 1 through the 7th and Aug. 16th through the 22nd. I need a couple of fishermen, send me an e-mail if you like to go and I'll send you all the information. |

We limited on Silvers both days (7-13 & 7-14) also limited on halibut. One of our party (125lbs) caught a 236 pounder thanks to Skipper Little John with Reel Affair charters. That made the deck of the boat a little crowded seeing how the other 10 halibut were 40 and 50 pounderss. The weather is excellent and the fish are biting. Tough going on the Kings, we only landed 2 for the whole trip. Good luck!!! |

Subject: Great Fishing
Well we are back from Alaska. The fishing was execelent!!!!!
If anyone is interested in going I would recomend the following guide: http://www.excursionsunltd.com This was who we went out on the water with. The Captain was Craig Monaco. Craig was well experienced with the fishing around Sika, Alaska. He did an execelent job at taking us where the fish were and he made sure we had a great time. We limited out on King Salmon in two hours on the first day thanks to Craig. Lingcod, Yellow-eye (Snapper) and Rockfish also graced our deck daily. We also observed Sea Otters, Whales, Bear, Deer, Bald Eagles, and Sea Lions while on the boat. |

Subject: Sitka Sound Fishing
Prepared for a little commercial and/or sport fishing for King Salmon yesterday, May 7. Because of 50-60 knot winds, heavy rain, and 39 degree weather I went to Long Island and fished 3 hours in the relative lee. No bites. Two other commercial fishermen and one guided sport fishing party in the area. I did walk up Starrigavin Creek on Sunday and observed one steel head fishermen and one pair of about 8lb steelhead near a spawning redd. I was hoping they would not be disturbed.
It was sad to hear the announcement that the overall Chinook abundance is so low as predicted by the US/Canada Pacific Salmon Treaty Commission that the daily limit will be one chinook per day and an annual limit of 3 chinook per non-resident per year.
