Local whiting are still hard to find, with West Beach launchers faring best on the Somerton and Brighton grounds. Garfish and tommies are plentiful, while snapper were boated at the Goannas on Friday night.
Wonga Shoal provided one crew with blueys, garfish, tommies and flathead, with garfish, tommies and trumpeters on the Section Bank. Shore anglers caught yellowfin whiting and a few bream from the St Kilda breakwater, and some legal mulloway at Mutton Cove and near the Jervois Bridge.
Yellowfin whiting and garfish were again caught from the beach at Tennyson, but like the rest of our metropolitan yellowfin whiting this summer, many are under the required 24cm.
West Beach boat catches included garfish, big tommies, flathead and leatherjackets, while O'Sullivan Beach launchers found garfish and snook from Seacliff to Brighton. A few salmon trout were caught from the southern breakwater and at the southern end of Port Noarlunga reef.

Garfish remain the main target of St Kilda and North Haven launchers. Wonga Shoal and the silt grounds are worth trying for blue crabs, while the more adventurous have tangled with small hammerhead sharks north of Outer Harbor.
Early morning breakwater anglers caught yellowfin whtiting, salmon trout and mullet at St Kilda while, Garry and David Bennett found mullet, garfish, blue crabs and small trevally at the southern end of West Lakes. Tennyson Beach and the northern jetties are still yielding early-morning garfish and yellowfin whiting.
King Geaorge whiting remain patchy. A St Vincent Gulf charter crew caught whiting, garfish, squid and a bronze whaler shark at Brighton, and there are small salmon between the southern end of Port Noarlunga reef and the Onkaparinga mouth. Squid are plentiful at Hallett cove and Moana.
On occasions, schools of salmon trout have been visiting the southern breakwater at O'Sullivan Beach, while Port Noarlunga jetty offered tommies, garfish and a few nice bream.

Northern blue crab news suggested a high number of females plus some crabs with soft shells during the moulting process. One angler disappointed out from St Kilda moved in to very shallow water and boated his limit of 40.
Other metropolitan boat catches suggest good numbers of garfish, mackerel, tommies and snook across the coast.
Whiting remain patchy, the best reports coming from Brighton and, to a lesser extent Somerton.
A few snapper have been caught at Glenelg, but the fish are not holding on any particular ground for long.
Gary Benett caught mullet, bream and garfish near Scullers Reserve in West Lakes on Saturday, while another angler caught some large mullet from the Garden Island mangrove walkway.
The Patawalonga yielded bream and undersize school mulloway, and there are some legal bream in the Onkaparinga at night. Big mullet were caught from Port Noarlunga jetty and Sellicks Beach. Squid were active at Hallet Cove and salmon near Horseshoe Reef, Christies Beach.

A word of warning for metropolitan boat angers.
White pointer sharks have approached boats at st Kilda and Glenelg in the past week, and each summer a number of sharks follow snapper boats into both gulfs. Anglers with smaller craft in particular should keep a wary eye on the water, as the St Kilda angler involved was only fishing for garfish when the big shark arrived alongside and sent him scurrying back to the ramp.
St Kilda boat crews reported better catches of garfish, whiting and blue crabs.
There was a good haul of snapper taken at the Goannas on Friday night.
Breakwater anglers managed modest mixed bags of yellowfin whiting, salmon trout and tommies, while Port River triers found bream from the Bower Rd causeway down to Snowdens Beach.
North Haven launchers scored plenty of garfish from Football Park to Outer Harbor, but whiting were again hard to find in numbers.
Snook were active on Semaphore Reef and the silt grounds while early-morning beach anglers caught yellowfin whiting and garfish at Tennyson and Semaphore.
Snook, mackerel and garfish are plentiful on West Beach and Glenelg grounds, with whiting catches of up to 18 a boat on afternoon tides.
A few snapper were boated at Clarries Ground while beach and jetty anglers found yellowfin whiting.
There was little change at O'Sullivan Beach, with snook, garfish and tommies the main catch, along with salmon trout to salmon size at Christies Beach.
For land-based anglers there are salmon trout at Southport and Port Willunga.
Several mulloway from 70cm to 80cm were caught in the Onkaparinga at night.

Mullet have returned in good numbers to St Kilda channel, while boat crews scored reasonable hauls of blue crabs but struggled to find whiting.
There were plenty of big tommies on Semaphore Reef late last week, while salmon trout schools were found just inshore of the reef and around Outer Harbor breakwaters.
Blue crabs were caught from Henley jetty on calmer nights, along with garfish at Henley and Grange.
West Beach launchers saw very little time on the water but reported squid and a few whiting, and there are bream in the boat harbour and outside the Patawalonga entrance.
Southern boaties scored squid at Seacliff, Marino and Moana, whiting late afternoons at the Millionaires, scattered catches of garfish and salmon between Port Noarlunga Reef and the Onkaparinga mouth and isolated catches of snapper from the Bar ground at Moana. The only land-based news was of squid and a few garfish at Port Noarlunga jetty.

Boat anglers again had to make the most of limited breaks in the weather.
On Saturday, one boat returned to St Kilda ramp with 30 blue crabs. Another crew, with no nets on board, happily reported hooking plenty on their whiting rigs on the outer edge of the silt grounds.
A few mullet were found in the St Kilda channel but their numbers are declining.
Bream came from the top end of the Port River, including a whopper nudging 2kg caught near the Birkenhead Tavern. Other bream were taken in the West Beach boat harbour, outside the Patawalonga lock gates, and in the middle reaches of the Onkaparinga.
The only other local shore-based news was of salmon at Southport and tommies at Maslin Beach.
Before the weekend blow, boat catches included squid at Semaphore Reef, snapper to 6kg near the Glenelg tyre reef, squid, leatherjackets and occasional whiting at West Beach and Glenelg, squid and the odd garfish at Seacliff and Marino, and more squid at Sellicks Beach.

Whiting anglers continue to struggle for decent catches, with undersize fish a problem in northern waters and an overall report of unusually skinny fish on many grounds.
Experienced anglers are still picking up a feed right along the coast, but there was no word on bag limits.
Shore-based fishers again found mullet and salmon trout in the St Kilda channel and bream at the top of the Port River around Dock 1 and the Birkenhead Tavern.
One angler fishing with a quill float at the Torrens outlet caught 12 yellow-eye mullet and six jumping mullet in a productive session last week.
There are a few legal bream in the boat harbour at West Beach, and some gar to be found on warmer days at Port Noarlunga jetty.
Other boat news included blue crabs on the NorthWest ground and in deeper sections of the silt grounds at Outer Harbor.
Squid have been reasonably plentiful, better on southern grounds from Glenelg to Hallett Cove, while there was an unconfirmed report of a catch of six snapper of mixed sizes boated at Glenelg on Friday night.
Boat crews fishing out from the Onkaparinga mouth tangled with solid salmon in the 1kg to 2kg range.

Weekend boating activity was virtually non-existent. Local whiting action has fluctuated, with various grounds yielding good catches one day and nothing the next.
Some of the best reports before the weekend blow came from Estcourt House, Grange and Glenelg tyre reefs, Kemps, inshore grounds at West Beach, and at the Millionaires ground at Hallett Cove.
Squid were prominent at Grange, Glenelg, Seacliff and Marino.
St Kilda again provided some shelter behind the boat ramp kiosk, where mullet and a few bream were caught in the channel. There were also mullet at Grange and Henley jetties, and bream in the upper reaches of the Port River, near Birkenhead Tavern.
A few school mulloway were caught from the Falie dock and in the North Arm.

The St Kilda channel returned to life on the weekend, with mullet and bream behind the shop, and a few salmon trout at the seaward end.
Farther north, yellowfin whiting were caught in the shallows at Thompsons Beach. Productive northern whiting grounds include the Fairway Beacon, Coral Patch, NorthWest Ground, Buckets and Semaphore Reef.
Heading south, Grange tyre reef produced a few fish. There were also catches on the Glenelg grounds and, for O'Sullivan Beach launchers, the Millionaires and Wave Recorder grounds.
Other boat catches included squid, or calamari, at Kemps, Bag Ground and Hallett Cove, and plenty of red mullet at Port Stanvac.
For shore casters, there were salmon trout at Pelican Point, bream near Birkenhead Tavern and in the No 1 dock at Port Adelaide, and at the Glenelg ferry landing. Mullet were caught from Semaphore jetty in fine conditions last Wednesday.
Southern anglers worked hard for modest catches of bream, salmon trout and tommies in the boat harbour at O'Sullivan Beach, and a few salmon trout at Southport.

Boat fishing was almost a non-event over the past week, with isolated whiting reports coming from the NorthWest ground, Kemps, Sommerton and Seacliff.
Many anglers are still enjoying shelter from the wind and good catches of mullet in the channel behind the St Kilda kiosk. A few bream have also been caught.
There was further news of small yellowtail kingfish at Pelican Point, and some Port River regulars are still pursuing mulloway at night in the North Arm and around Torrens Island.
There are bream and a few mulloway along the wharves. Port River and Barker Inlet fishing may decline in a few days after the seasonal bloodworm run, expected to peak last night and tonight.

While there were limited chances to fish for whiting, area mentioned in reports included the North-West ground, Coral Patch, Semaphore Reef, Grange tyre reef, 2km out from Torrens outlet, Milky's, Somerton, Brighton, Seacliff and the Millionaires ground.
Unfortunately it was often a case of feast or famine, some crews catching fish, while others nearby struggled to get a bite.
Land-based fishers again found mullet and a few bream behind the shop at St Kilda, and mullet were also caught from the Garden Island walkway.
A few snapper and small sharks were boated at the Goannas when seas were calm enough, while some good mulloway to around 18kg were caught around the North Arm, behind Torrens Island, and near the quarantine station. Salmon trout and bream were biting at Pelican Point.
Bream and mullet are still available at the Torrens outlet and a big school of mullet was seen inside the boat harbor at West Beach.
Salmon trout were caught from the southern breakwater at O'Sullivan Beach, with big mullet from the beach on calmer days. Jetty anglers at Port Noarlunga worked hard for a feed of salmon trout and mullet.

A few boats launched at St Kilda, where the big news is mullet and a few salmon trout in the channel. Mullet mix, tubeworms and berley are all proving popular. Apart from behind the shop, another productive area is about halfway along the breakwater, at a spot known to local anglers as the roundabout.
Other anglers sought shelter in Barker Inlet and the Port River. Salmon trout were caught at Outer Harbor, the container berth, Pelican Point and around the cutting at St Kilda. There were also a few reports of small yellowtail kingfish sighted at Pelican Point. Best bream catches came from near Birkenhead Tavern and around the North Arm wrecks, while boat anglers also caught occasional mulloway behind Torrens Island.
There were no boats out from North Haven down to O'Sullivan Beach over the weekend, but whiting are expected to fire after the blow. One crew also caught 16 large squid on the Norma Wreck late last week, and they seem to be spread along many local whiting grounds. One happy angler bought a new rod and reel on Monday, and within the hour had caught a 14kg salmon at Christies Beach, in front of Beach Road.
The nearby jetty at Port Noarlunga yielded salmon trout and mullet and with big afternoon tides this weekend, both species should also be found in the Onkaparinga, between the mouth and the foot-bridge.
On Monday morning, a keen fly fisher caught and released five bream at Old Noarlunga, using a yellow and green prawn-style fly. The bream were all dark-coloured resident fish, with the far more palatable silver sea-run specimens still a few weeks away.

Because of the weather there was little weekend angling activity, the only northern news being salmon trout at St Kilda, Outer Harbour and North Haven, and some mullet, bream and salmon trout from wharf No 20 in the Port River.
Late on Monday afternoon Brett Mensforth tried at Pelican Point and within two hours had 12 salmon trout, two legal whiting, one garfish and a flathead.
The Torrens outlet received its first decent flush in months, and the basin below the concrete walls should produce mullet and bream when conditions settle again.
Metropolitan beaches may also see better mullet catches after an autumn that was too calm for too long for this species.
On Friday there were whiting in close at West Beach, and a few snapper were boated on Clarries Ground. Very few boats were out on Monday, but one ventured south to Marino Rocks for seven whiting and a bag limit of small snapper.
O'Sullivan Beach launchers caught a few whiting on Friday, and there were some snapper on the Outer Bar ground at Moana before the weekend blow.
One good salmon of more than 2kg was caught from Port Noarlunga jetty on Sunday, with salmon trout tucked into the southern corner of Christies Beach. Salmon trout also ventured inside the Okaparinga mouth as rough weather set in.

On Friday night one crew boated five snapper at the Goannas but catches there are predictable at best. Anglers returned to St Kilda with average bags of about 20 blue crabs per boat. Garfish catches improved on the weekend and there were whiting and flathead on the section bank.
Mulloway above and below legal size are in the St Kilda channel. The new boat ramp is now open and the seaweed trap will soon be fully operational.
Some just-legal snapper were boated between Pelican Point and the submarine base and there are yellowfin whiting at the Torrens Island hot water outlet.
Jetty anglers caught garfish at Semaphore, Grange and Henley, with a few blue crabs also at Semaphore. There are small but legal snapper on deeper grounds at Glenelg and whiting around dusk on grounds in the 12m-depth range. One boat returned with 25 whiting from the Brighton area.
Further south, there was little news other than the odd snapper or two at Moanna's Bar ground and some salmon trout taking lures south of Port Noarlunga reef.

Salmon trout have been active from St Kilda breakwater, and Gulf Port Charters crews have also enjoyed catching them on lures near the Outer Harbor and North Haven breakwaters when returning from whiting grounds. St Kilda launchers had modest mixed bags of snook, whiting, garfish, blue crabs and tommies, while mullet were biting in the channel.
One angler spotted a big school of salmon trout chasing baitfish in the upper reaches of the Port River but unfortunately they were in the no-fishing zone created by the discovery of an exotic species of seaweed in the area. The ban also still applies to West Lakes until further notice.
Fortunately, the nearby beach at Tennyson has been providing some excellent catches of garfish, the best results coming by wading out to the second bar around low tide. One angler also scored a good bag of 25 garfish from Henley jetty before the weekend. Elsewhere, shore casters caught school mulloway at Pelican Point and some larger specimens were boated near the submarine base and container wharf. Whiting were patchy, with reports coming from the Cabbage Patch, Grange, Semaphore Reef and Norma Wreck.
West Beach crews worked hard for a feed of whiting and garfish, although St Vincent's Gulf Charters found good numbers of whiting near Brighton on the weekend. From the shore, mullet and bream were biting in the boat harbor at West Beach, while bream and mulloway came from the lower reaches of the Patawalonga basin.
Shane Foster celebrated his 15th birthday with his first big snapper, an 8.6kg fish, boated at Christies Beach before Friday's crazy action. All other news from O'Sullivan Beach was something of an-anti climax, just a few squid and cuttlefish at Hallett Cove and some salmon trout from the harbour's southern breakwater.

We fished out from St Kilda last Wednesday, catching 19 legal whiting and 22 tommies near the Blue Hole. We then moved into Barker Inlet on the rising afternoon tide, where our unusual catch included a 28cm silver trevally and a small snapper on consecutive casts in one of the mangrove creeks. Both species are virtually unheard of in the creeks, and ours were released alive.
Blue crabs are starting to dwindle in numbers but can still be found from Grange to St Kilda. Many crabbers also fished successfully for garfish on the same grounds.
Semaphore jetty has garfish early mornings and a mixture of blue and sand crabs, while Henley and Glenelg jetties are also worth an early try for garfish. A beach caster at Tennyson bagged more than 30 garfish on Monday morning, while boat anglers reported a few whiting at Semaphore Reef, North-West ground, Norma Wreck and the Goannas.
West Beach launchers are still finding whiting on the inshore grounds, up to 2km out, while patient snapper anglers are extracting the odd legal fish from among small ones on Clarries and Freds grounds. A whitepointer shark is also cruising those two areas.
Glenelg tyre reef produced good catches of garfish and big tommies were boated at Seacliff. Bream and school mulloway can be caught from the breakwater at West Beach, with more bream available around dusk in the Patawalonga.
Weekend boating news was dismal from O'Sullivan beach ramp. There are a few garfish, bream and mullet at Port Noarlunga jetty, and mullet at Maslin and Aldinga beaches.

Slow tides didn't help weekend crabbers, but there are still reasonable numbers of blueys available from Grange to St Kilda.
Salmon trout have been biting north of the Torrens outlet and at Tennyson, while Henley jetty provided garfish, salmon trout and mullet.
Whiting are still patchy for boat anglers, some of the better reports coming from Semaphore Reef, along the blue line at West Beach, and between Brighton and Marino.
School mulloway have been taking unweighted pilchard baits at night near the King St bridge in the Patawalonga.

Blue crabs were again plentiful at St Kilda, although their numbers had been thinned out considerably by Monday. Garfish were also active along with a few snapper caught at the Goannas on Sunday night. Salmon trout and mullet were biting from the breakwater.
Garry Bennett and son David enjoyed a catch of 32 salmon from Wharf 20 at Port Adelaide on Sunday morning, while a North Haven boat crew returned with a good haul of whiting, garfish, blue crabs and a couple of flathead.
The fishing ban in West Lakes, because of the spread of an exotic species of seaweed will continue until further notice.
West Beach launchers found improved whiting action on inshore ground, while garfish were plentiful in many areas, particularly the tyre reef. Snapper reports were mainly of undersize fish on Clarries Ground and there are still a few mulloway at dusk outside the breakwater at West Beach.
Boat traffic was heavy at O'Sullivan Beach but most crews struggled for a feed of garfish, snook and squid. Mullet were biting at first light in front of the yacht club at Seacliff.

Calm weather allowed more boats to venture north to the Goannas, where whiting; snapper and small sharks were caught.
Last weekend provided excellent blue crab catches for St Kilda launchers, with other crab reports coming from Semaphore down to West Beach.
Wife Barbara and I fished out from St Kilda on Wednesday, catching salmon trout and mainly undersize whiting near the Blue Hole before venturing into Barker Inlet for more salmon trout and a couple of huge mullet of 34cm and 38cm. We also caught and released several bream to 30cm
Small but legal snapper boated on the John Robb and Ballast grounds, also about 4km out at Glenelg. Whiting were best on North West and silt grounds; with salmon trout caught on saltwater flies around the Glenelg caissons.
Land-based anglers found mullet in St Kilda channel while, while at West Beach there were bream inside the boat harbor and school mulloway outside the southern breakwater around dusk. Whiting were patchy for West Beach launchers but there were plenty of garfish on many grounds, including the tyre reef and Red Roof.
My brother Bruce caught three legal bream to 32cm from the shore at Marino on Sunday, while a few bream, salmon trout and tommies came from the breakwater at O'Sullivan Beach. Southern boat anglers have had to work hard for a feed, with garfish best at Brighton and a few whiting on Seacliff Reef.

While blue crabs and garfish will be the main Easter targets for northern anglers, salmon trout are building in numbers in Barker Inlet and there are some nice mulloway at night around Torrens Island.
Garfish and blueys are also frequenting northern jetties early and late in the day, with Tennyson providing beach anglers with good morning catches of mullet and garfish.
Whiting remain patchy along the coast. One crew caught 15 at the Goannas; while Gulf Port Charter boats have been working the Grange area for mixed bags of whiting, snook, garfish and blueys.
Some just-legal snapper were boated at Semaphore Reef, with similar sizes about 3km out at Glenelg. A couple of big snapper are believed to have come from the Glenelg barges, and the Port Stanvac barges also rewarded one late-night crew on Saturday.
Garfish were biting well for Port Stanvac launchers last Thursday but were far less responsive on the weekend. One angler caught snook around dusk at Hallett Cove, then passed a school of feeding salmon on his way back to the ramp.
Wading anglers caught garfish from the reef at Seaford and there were yellowfin whiting along the beach at Aldinga.

Northern crabbers are still doing well. Shane Mensforth and family picked up 29 on Wonga Shoal on Sunday afternoon. St Kilda launchers also are returning with good crab hauls, plus garfish and whiting. The autumn salmon trout run is just starting at St Kilda and Barker Inlet, and should continue until late May.
Local whiting catches remain patchy. There were some reasonable hauls taken at the Goannas, and St Vincent Gulf Charters found a good school at Brighton on Saturday.
Garfish remain the safest bet for metropolitan launchers, Wayne and Kevin Gaskin boating 80 big specimens at Marino Rocks on Sunday.
Beach casters at Tennyson are still getting their share of garfish, likewise at Glenelg jetty when weather conditions are suitable.
There are salmon trout at the West Beach breakwater, also on the Glenelg Caissons for boat anglers. O'Sullivan Beach crews found whiting best at Marino and Brighton, with garfish widespread, heaps of mackerel on the Port Stanvac barges, and lots of tiny snapper pestering whiting anglers on grounds south of the ramp.

Blue crabs and garfish provided much of our local action. The garfish are well spread along the coast; while blueys are being caught in surprisingly good numbers as far south as Seacliff, well beyond their normal summer range.
St Kilda breakwater catches included yellowfin whiting, salmon trout, mullet and a flounder, while Port River anglers found school mulloway near the submarine base, quarantine station, and in the North Arm near the Torrens Island Bridge. Garfish are also plentiful in West Lakes, but they've been timid biters of late.
The NorthWest and John Robb grounds yielded a few whiting but right along the coast it's been hard work, even for seasoned whiting anglers. Tennyson is still providing garfish for beach casters early and late in the day, while all northern jetties are worth trying for blue crabs. There are salmon trout, bream and a few mullet in the boat harbour at West Beach, and one angler caught 50 garfish from the southern breakwater at O'Sullivan Beach on Monday morning.
Port Noarlunga jetty is best fished early and late in the day for salmon trout, tommies and bream.

There were plenty of garfish and blue crabs in northern waters. St Kilda breakwater still offers yellowfin whiting and salmon trout, while jetty anglers caught blue crabs at Largs, Semaphore and Grange, and bream at Henley and Grange.
Early morning beach casters caught garfish, yellowfin whiting and a few mullet at Semaphore South.
Garfish are in good numbers right along the coast. Some mulloway have been caught from dusk at the northern breakwater at West Beach, and there are bream at the Torrens Outlet and in the Patawalonga.
Salmon trout are active around the Glenelg caissons and are making occasional runs to the jetty.
O'Sullivan Beach launchers caught plenty of garfish, a few squid, up to 15 whiting per boat and some snook at Hallett Cove and 2km out from Horseshoe Reef.
Experienced anglers have been catching some nice bream from Port Noarlunga jetty.

Limited launching opportunities saw blue crabs, garfish and plenty of tommies boated out from St Kilda, where the breakwater yielded mullet, salmon trout and yellowfin whiting.
When mornings are calm enough, beach anglers at Tennyson are catching large garfish and small to medium yellowfin whiting.
West Beach launchers caught garfish and salmon trout.
News from O'Sullivan Beach included a whiting bag limit at Marino and mixed reports of garfish, squid and snook when weather permitted.

Subject: Fishing Report - Adelaide Metropolitan Area
St Kilda breakwater is providing consistent early morning catches of yellowfin whiting and a few salmon trout. Boat anglers caught mainly garfish and tommies, plus enough legal size blue crabs among the small ones to make the effort worthwhile.
Garry Bennett took his latest WEA fishing class to the southern end of West Lakes on Sunday morning, where they caught an interesting mixture of mullet, garfish, trumpeters, blue crabs, trevally, one nice bream and a big leatherjacket.
There were reports of some mulloway taken from the northern breakwater at West Beach and more bream caught inside the Patawalonga.
Boat anglers had limited chances, catching mainly garfish, mackerel and salmon trout. My Brother Bruce caught several squid and a snook at Marino on Monday, while O'Sullivan Beach launchers found garfish on most grounds tried.
There are yellowfin whiting inside and snapper caught outside of the Onkaparina mouth, while beach casters caught salmon trout near the Christies Beach Life Saving Club.
