Hi Everyone,

My beginning experience that I remembered……
When I first came across this forum, I was trilled, and since then learnt many things and came across new fishing locations and many new friends. Then through this forum I first met Pranab, who was kind enough to take me to Maktoom bridge sight and showed me how to make throws. He even took me to some tackle shops. This was some months back. I still remember……

Now too, although I don’t go out fishing, because of summer I read this forum at least 4- 5 times in a day- it makes me happy. This is indeed very useful forum especially for new comers as well as experienced ones, it keep their basic well tuned (by answering the new comers) Special Thanks to them. Trust me without the experienced friends around, we won’t be able to load any new idea- which are fresh and meant especially for our locations.
In the beginning I use to ask questions like how and what to mix in the dough (artificial bait made from flour), how to load a line into new reel…….etc etc.
For the beginners, shooting questions may sound silly (its natural for the beginners), but don’t feel shy, there are friends who don’t mind answering, if they are in right mood, then there are those who are even ready to take you to the shops and guide you what to buy.

Hope many like me are waiting for winter to come, so that we can sit without loosing our patience and keep posting more pictures.

Keep smiling,

Best Regards,

Ronald.

Dear ijlal ,

Nice to talk to you after long time over phone . I was not online so i did not see your latest message . Any way to answer your questions . First of all i am a very cool guy who never heats up .

To answer your first question . There is absolutely no harm to discuss kind of fishes people are catching and share knowledge . If you had read my last post properly i said messages can be conveyed with a softer tone which wont hurt any one . Thats all i asked for nothing more . You got absolutely every right to discuss any kind of fish here . But avoid the fight . You have to be careful as i mentioned to you the fishermans ego is very sensitive . Specially so in summer months when no fishes are around he he .

Last point i dont agree with you . Of course its a international forum . I have personl friends all over the globe who do read this forum . In fact i do the same for other countries just to know what is happening where . I agree with you its your opinion its not a international forum and i dont have to fight with you on that as others are doing at present . I think its quite childish to do so .

And last but not the least as ronald rightly pointed out when some one shows courage to say sorry we should all move forward and carry on rather than writing wonderful poems from other corner of the globe although he says he dont miss us he he .

Jess this one for you . May be you dont miss me or jumeriah but i still miss you . By the way are u hooking up big monesters there or just the other spieces as you mentioned . Geeees i am feeling jelous of you jess .

Why is it like this you enjoy fishing both the species all alone just not fair .

I LOVEEEEE U JESSSS MONTES MY BEST FRIEND

regards

Pranab

Hi Pranab,

Long time no see man!

I didn't see your message while I was replying to Jess's; however, I do want to ask you a few questions pal:

1. What is so wrong in discussing fish species on a fishing forum, or would you rather discuss that on a JAVA forum?

2. Why is everybody so insecure they cannot handle an argument or two? Shouldn't it have gone like this: Keyur says Zahed's fish is a red seabream, thereafter Jeen thinks it is a picnic seabream and he gives his arguments. I find the arguments interesting and begin to research on my own and post my observations. Now Mr. Zahed, who asked the question in the first place can decide for himself what he likes. How does this become an ego problem?

3. Lastly, an obsevation, not a question, but first let me clarify, it is what I feel and nobody is forced to agree with it. This is not an international forum, it is a forum for U.A.E. based fishermen or those who might want to come and fish here. It is (most probably) hosted on an American website but that does not make it an international forum. According to whatever little cognitive powers I have, an international forum would be one where fishos from around the world would discuss their local fishing or fishing in general with each other.

Pranab, I hope you would not take this message negatively as I mean no offence. Furthermore I acknowledge you have done a lot to get this forum going, and this is the reason I asked you the above questions.

I tried to put an end to all this but if finger pointing is to continue, I can stand up and fight it out on my own - I do not have to please anyone as anybody sensible enough would get a clear picture of what transpired.

Regards,
Ijlal

Hi,

Its peak summer time, and the humidity is unbearable, may be this makes some of our forum members get puffed up. I have seen some of them are keen readers and good writers too, but sometimes forget that this is an International forum and don’t realize that they get into unwanted trouble.

It’s really hard to say SORRY, and when someone already did, others please don’t carry on the same topic. Although for some it may be hard to forget, but at least we can forgive each other and be friends and continue this forum for what it is mend for.

Best Regards,

Ronald

Hello Castor,

We would surely appreciate if you share some of your knowledge with us. Let's say you start by telling all where, when and how you caught your biggest fish, show us some photos, and give us some tips on catching that particular species.

Thanks,

Hi Jess,

Good to hear from you. I share your feelings even though I unfortunately am involved in the mess.

As you have mentioned, I too can see many good people no longer contribute to the forum, and I don't mind what you say about me after all that transpired but hey, wait a minute... what do you mean by stating "The sons of gun they WERE!" Listen, I am still here and do not plan to leave like a coward. I am sure with time any of you who stays on the forum will realize I am not such a bad boy. After all it all started when I provided some useful and authentic information that I found in an FAO Field Guide; little did I know it would hurt some peoples' egos so much!

...and I hope you realize if you prod someone you should be ready for a kick in return - Not very gentlemanly though, I agree.

Anyhow, what is done cannot be undone, and I have a feeling the forum would be a better place out of all this. I apologize to all forum members including Fishking and Keyur for my part in the controversy without further rationalizing my behaviour.

I also feel every member should contribute to the forum if we are to achieve any success. We hardly ever see more than ten members write, which gives less of an impression of a group and breeds individualism.

Lastly, PLEASE, we do not want to hear any further farewell messages! Maybe it is the heat, but hey, the season's just round the corner, so c'mon guys let's start talking fishing!

Best regards to all,
Ijlal

hi guys ,

I received a call yesterday from a forum member who dont write any more here but relegiously reads what is being written here .

He joked to me that in our times there were two kind of fishes one meant to be eaten other meant to be released .

But now a days it seemed people do a little extra . They see the family tree of the fish and even go to labs for testing if the fish caught is virgin or not .

Come on guys its a international forum . We should talk only fishing rather than back biting each other .

I did put a lot of effort to bring people in this forum . 5 months back when i got intersted in this hobby i went personally to people whom i saw fishing in dubai and invited them to join this forum .

Please my humble request to all of you lets forget nick names and fish species . Lets just do fishing rather than pointing out fingers some one is mishandling a fish which he wants to take home for the table . After all this is not fishing talk .

Lets make the forum a better place rather than reading remarks i am leaving , this forum is no longer a infromative place this kind of messages .

I hearby apologise to all if my comments did hurt any ones feelings . Dont take it other way just let us join hands and try to make this forum a better place .

And people who says i am leaving i think tht is not a right attitude . Because that way nothing can stand . Every one has got the right to express but in a humble and sober way .

I sincerely hope members of this forum will understand what i wanted to say and wont start another controversy over my remarks .

Because from the bottom of my heart this message is not meant to demean any one .

regards

PRANAB

There was a fishing forum
and it was going fine
With Jeen, Pretorius , Heber
Dave, Martin & Mike…
And then came 13/14 angler,
Fishing King, Udupa and Ijlal
Fighting with Pranab, Keyur
Guruji, Chua and Kitster
They forgot all the fishing,
and were just interested in cursing
Screwing up the forum,
The sons of gun they were.

I am in a far away country,
enjoying sunshine and fishing,
There ain’t no cursing, back biting
just beer n’ girls n’ fishing
And I don’t miss no Ifthikar
Nor Tayyeb, nor Jumeirah
And certainly not 13 angler,
Fishing King , Udupa and Ijlal,
The sons of gun they were

Tightlines, bent rods and no idiots

This forum is suppose to be meant to share fishing knowledge and experiences. However, 75% of the post do not contain any useful information anymore (unlike before).

If there is any kind of problem between few guys then they should meet up or make a call and resolve the issue rather than making this forum a chatting channel.

Hey Keyur,

Now you are talking like the KING himself, aren't ya? Who gave you the right to dictate who is the expert and who is respectable? If a person has knowledge, if a person is respectable, people would realize themselves, sooner or later. I too respect Jeen, not because you continually go on declaring so, but having read his messages, I can see he is an old hand and is also open to dialogue. I have no reason to disrespect the others you mention either. Kit, Chua and even yourself may be experts in at least some aspects of the game... I have no reason to refute that, but what do you mean by trying to make everyone acknowledge that? Are you trying to create a cabinet on the forum with your preassigned advisors that everybody must go to?

Come on my friend, let's talk like grown ups! If you have any objections, then come up with valid arguments. Jeen first described the fish as Picnic Seabream, giving valid reasons, but you retorted by nullifying his effort by declaring it just a seabream, whereas earlier you were going with the red seabream notion! Then I researched on the fish and felt it resembled more of a yellow fin seabream, and gave my arguments, but instead of people coming up with reasoning if they felt it was otherwise, they resort to negative tactics.

You may write diplomatic messages yet people will not fail to notice your contradictions. Please stop acting as a custodian of the forum.

All,
I regret having used harsh words, but somebody had to say these things sooner or later... and you may notice I did not start this fight.

Jeen, Kit, Chua,
I have had to refer to you but no offence was ever meant to you.

Best regards,

Ijlal

HI Guys,

the temperature here is soaring. Just a few words.....(It all depends of how you take it)

I dont really care about fishking or syed or anyone who has not made any difference in my life.

there are people I hold in esteem & they are; Jeen for his wide knowledge with fish & fishing, Chua for his down to earth manner although he has a vast experience, Kit cos he too is very straight forward, Pranab as he is ever willing to learn, Heber cos he is a good person to hang around with & avoids controversy. The common thing with all these people are that they are ever willing to share their knowledge & I have been learning continuously from all of them.

I too (like angler 14) was very surprised to see Kit hold a fish like that. I can only assume 2 possibilities. 1) it was already dead 2) it was meant to be eaten. Either way, I'd keep my opinion to myself & ask Kit personally why he did that.
Naming & shaming & hurting sentiments is not right as we all have differences & a difference in opinions.

Jeen surely understood when I said that I am not 'God' to go around naming. Just for clarifications, I meant that I am not inventing a name & that the fish already had a name. I knew that it was some type of bream, but not sure of what type. Whatever the type, it wouldnt make a difference to me. Whatever the real name is, that fish would be known by that name. If I call a seabream a shark, it wouldnt change its appearance now, would it ?

Sorry if I offended some of you guys, I wont make the mistake of sharing anything here on the forum. I am not here to show my dominance as my fishing knowledge is limited & I have got a lot to learn.

I'd prefer enjoying my fishing with like minded people, rather than hit below the belt.

However, if anyone needs to speak to me, please feel free to drop me a line.

As far as I know, this is a public forum & I have no business humiliating anyone.
Have fun guys & good luck with your fishing.

Dear Mr. Fishing King!

Here's what I think of you: I think I know who you are but do not feel you are important enough to be named. You are however, a jealous person with an inflated ego that cannot let you appreciate some people around you might be more knowledgeable and experienced than you are. You are also a coward, so you have hid yourself behind a veil, calling yourself the KING (read as GOD!) - That is the public image you dream for yourself, but let me tell you pal, the harder you try the more you expose your real self to the group members. People are not idiots and can easily read between the lines.

I knew this was coming but let me tell you I am not a coward to run away; I shall stay and continue to have healthy debate with other group members who understand what the forum is about. If you do not like it you you may run off with the few followers you have and create a forum of your own. I wouldn't mind if you sit on the throne there!

Cheers!

Good to know that we have an expert here.....(The 'I' master....I named this & I said this......hahahahaha!)
we suppose some people here are just lonely for attention.
Hope you got the hint.

It is rather unfortunate to know that we have some really dwaft people here who cant understand simple lingo with a few idioms & phrases & take everything literally.

Let me know if someone needs some tutoring in English. We also have an englishman in our midst who might oblige in helping out.

Have you ever heard of Pot luck....well, that one's for the pot. Tell me Ijlal, if you caught it what would you do ? Keep the answer to your self you hypocrite. If you are so keen on Cnr, stop murdering the small fish.

Everything that you caught, if let alone would have grown bigger, would that mean that all fish are jeuvenile ? Has anyone here 'EVER' caught a fully grown fish ? NO SIR, no one here ever has.
Hypocrites ! By saying fully grown, it would mean that the fish can grow to that maximum size.

Hey you Mr. Dangler 14....forgot the password to your Angler 13 login ? or have you grown up ? it definately doesnt seem so.

Jeen, thanks for your info, Keyur thanks for your info, Pranab where are you ? Xi-Hunter thanks for the info, . Everyone else who is contributing & keeping this forum alive thanks.

No thanks to the pains in our sides. If you think you know everything & want to play God, sure feel free & go ahead, but dont waste out time.

What do you intend suggesting by saying "Anyway, I cant go around the place like GOD creating & naming species....?" For your information, God did not name the fish as breams and snappers and emperors, we did!

Guys,

I strongly believe the fish Zahed caught is yellowfin seabream, even in the absence of the characteristic yellow coloured fins! I am the one who identified a previous fish by Zahed as picnic seabream; however, looking more closely at the details, two features distinguish a picnic seabream from a yellowfin apart from the yellow fins:
1. A yellow fin bream has a slight hump on head just above the eyes, whereas a picnic seabream has a flat sloping head.
2. A yellowfin sea bream has a dark blotch just by the top part of gill plates, while there is no such spot on the picnic sea bream.

Jeen is correct in suggesting use of fishbase.org. I use the same along with an FAO field guide for my country and these sources are the most accurate you can find online.

Hope this helps...

Thanks,
Ijlal

HEY KIT,

Its sickening to see a fish that large being handled in such an amature manner.
Its large ones like these which have to be released to ensure a strong gene pool. However the way you are handling the fish,it is destined for death.
Maybe some of the "experts" here can give the rest of you CnR lessons.

Hi all
the weathers bin a real pain this last week with temps near 50c but its nice to see a few die hard anglers still out there administering toothache to the denizens of the deep.very nice mangrove jack or ginimas as they say in our language there kit.did u catch it on lure??must have given you a descent fight.
i do have a suggestion for you though and i hope you take it in good faith.the way you are handling the fish is very inappropriate.a fish when held must always be supported by both the head and the area in behind the pelvic fin.the way you are handling that fish in ur picture leads to damage of internal organs so that even if the fish is released its chances of survival are minimal.hope you take my suggestions into consideration.

and mr.iftikhar kit's name is not xiphias.xiphias is just the species name of the sailfish,a popular gamefish.

thanks you
udupa

Australians call it mangrove jack. Amaericans call it mangrove snaper, hawaiians call it uku...scientists call it gray snapper. :-)

nice. fish...one of my favorites.

Hi Keyur,

The sea bream it is. Well I suggest the easiest way to id a fish is to go to www.fisbase.org.If you look for bream on fish base and then go to "picnic bream " you will see the picture of a bream click the picture and you will see all the variations of this fish.
I do agree a bream is a bream for us anglers .

HI Guys,

no offence to anyone, but dont really know much about 'Picnic Bream'...... I must have missed the earlier post where it was Id'd. Besides, google could only come up with 1 pic in its database where a picnic bream is shown, that too in singapore.

A good reference would be the UAE Government/ Fisheries reference chart that identifies both these types of species (yellow & grey) found in abundance in the UAE waters.

The ones with the yellow pectorals are called 'Yellow Fin Sea Bream' (scientific name: Acanthopagurs LATUS)& grows upto 45cm

The ones with the darkish grey is called 'Black Sea Bream' (Scientific name: Acanthopagurs DATNIA')& grows upto 50cms

I dont think that the UAE govt would be that good at inventing names, besides we can see that they are from the same species.

Anyway, I cant go around the place like GOD creating & naming species.... so I will stick to calling it 'Sea Bream'

:o)

Hi Guys,
Keyur and Zahed, the fish is indeed the picnic bream earlier Id,ed by some body on the forum. The colour varies with age, gender and region. The juveniles have slightly yellow pectorals the mature ones loose the yellow pectorals and the overall colour becomes darkish grey hence known in some quarters as Black Porgy. Their favourite food is mollusc, barnacles, other shell fish , shrimp and small fish. If you see their frontal teeth ( almost human ) you can tell that they prefer shell fish to other bait. If you can pick up some mussels from among the rocks and use the meat you will literally see the fish go bersek.

Hi Guys,
Many thanks for the responses, this seems like a really friendly site!
I will be out on Friday morning early with a couple of friends who have fished here before, but we have to decide where to launch depending on the weather. One of the guys wants to go over to the East coast, but it is a bit of a haul with a 31ft boat for one day, I need to get used to the trailer!
So far on the boat I have 4 rod holders just in front of the engines, (there are three on the sun shade but really only for storage!) I dont yet have outriggers or downriggers, what does anyone think? Do I need them or not? I have 4 rods at the moment, 0.7 line, two with medium sized diving boards, two without. For now I am trying an 8ft trace down to 30Lbs, Lures from 3 ins to 5 ins all designed to dive to around 15ft. Any suggestions/comment? All and any would be welcome.

Regards Mike

Hi Guys, Sorry but I am new to fishing in the Gulf and would appreciate ANY help or advice. I know the area from diving here for the last 7 yrs, but have just bought a new boat of my own and have 'RE' taken up fishing. The question is 'where' to go this weekend for a reasonable chance of a catch trolling?
Later I will trail the boat to the East Coast, but thats for later, for now this coast seems favorite until I get the engines 'run in'.
Thanks in advance for any help and advice that comes my way, M

Hi Zahed,

I'd say they are red sea breams. The colour difference could be due to male & female of the species.
probably Jeen will have a better idea.

Plz check fishbase for adult dory snapper size.
If i'm not mistaken they grow up to 35 cm, n the ones caught look like 10 to 15cm.
However on the brighter side atleast u guys are not wiping out the breeding population.

The snappers are not really juvenile; the dory snapper is a relatively small fish.

Hi Fish pals and all
Thanks for showing intrest I wish u all were there and enjoyed the fishing like we did.
Only Tayyeb, his brother Khurram Omer Chuaa and my self were there for fishing. Well it was very good and we got good number of fish one yello fined and yellow tail bream it is called in arabic BINT-E-NAKHUDA around 2 KG, One big NAGROOR around a kg, one Sheery and 10 Nasser all pam sise some of them which were smaller size were released. We started at around 11 pm and came back 3am. I fased one problem and that was the rubish geathered near shore in the stone while pulling fish and reaching there specially big fish fights maximum and gets tangled with that rubish and there u have to brake the line. I lost many fish like that. Rest weather was hot but manageable. Otherwise it was nice and perfect.
Tayyeb has taken Pictures and hopefully he will post them in day or two.

hi jeen
i don't exacty know the coordinates of the oyster banks, because my friends boatman was driving, but he told me it was used by pearl fishermen until about 5 years ago. it was a bit shallower (4-6m)than the rest of the gulf around it. We were trolling in the mina channel near the buoys and then we headed back towards the bateen marina, and stopped a thebanks.
sorry that i couldn't be of much help.
Good to see lots of guys catching fish, hopefully they're returning early

Hi Guys,

Abu Catcher ;- That was a good outing you had there. where you trolling in the evening?. Where abouts is this Oyster bank. By gts i persume you meant golden trevallys.
Ijilal - For the boat registration you have to go to the department of water transport which is on the Salam street end ( east road near the Khalifa Park ) and collect an application form. The filled up application form will be attested from there which you have to take to the coast guard on the meena road. The coast guard will give you a date on which they will come to inspect your craft. The boat needs to have the folowing :- Life jackets, Radarar reflector, Compass. Once the inspection is over They will give you an approval which will take you back to the water dept who will issue a registration card. Takes about 10 days for the whole excercise. You dont need a licence for small crafts like rafts and Kayaks as long as you stay in the back waters.

The queens where caught by tossing the plugs into the commotion created by the fish chasing bait fish. We keep our eyes open for birds milling around to grab the bait fish from the surface. Such feeding frenzies usualy hold different species at various level of the water column. Queens & Kings on the surface, Trevallies & cobia in the middle and groupers at the bottom. This is normally from November on wards. As for the summer months I usually see only the queens. Abu cather's news abot the kings is quite encouraging. Looks like the fish are moving in early this year.

Thank you all for the replies and the congrats, hope you all have a good time and nice catch the next time you go out for fishing.
I was actualy excited that day as I got those five breams in one hour only after I was setting there for like 4 hours getting nothing but the smell of shrimps bait on my hands.
I would like to thank one man his name is Mohamed Kamal, from India as he is the one who helped me getting those breams. He provided me with the suitable hocks (bigger than the ones I was useing) and dough bait, he even told me where to cast my line. The result was beautiful as you all have seen in the pictures and in one hour only. I would like to add that Mr. Mohamed and one more fellow was there with him got more than 30 Fish of (more than 20 Breams,1 Shery, 6 butterfly fish).

This was a very nice experience for me and have learned something out of it which I hope will be a good help for me in the future.

Thank you all again

Hi Jeen,

Nice catch! Were you casting lures from a stationary boat or trolling?

Since you have a boat of your own, please advise what is the procedure for boat registration in Abu Dhabi? Is there any exemption on registration of small boats? How about inflatables? Do we have to get each and every boat registered, no matter how small it is?

Thanks!

hmmm...a lot of posts since i last came.

sorry that ive been out of touch boys, have been busy...hope all is well.

:-) chris fishes with me...hes in good hands. as for how he terms light, he joins me in using 8lbs test and lower, so he could get territorial there...as we have seen.

as for his trolling gear, gents, thats a light trolling outfit...so for THAT PARTICULAR USE, its LIGHT... we were fishing the trolling outfits to and from the fishing spot and thats that...fishing for anything that bites..the grouper bit...so there we go...although we can choose what we catch (YES, YOU CAN DO THIS), we were fishing for anything that bites.

i believe chua can attest to all of this.

boys, we each fish in different ways, what i might do...isnt something that you would do, and what works for me, doesnt really mean it would work for you...at the end of the day, its all about personal preference (like jeen's kids not using that much drag, they caught the fish so it works for them!!! so what gives?) lets not get in each other's case...we are all after the fish not each other's throats...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

Jeen!!! hey bud! i remmber you had a question for me...for the barra and bass; you can catch them on similar techniques as they share a lot of traits common to both of them. plastic worms, shad tails..etc. all catch bass...if you can catch a grouper, you already have an idea of how to catch bass...between them, the only thing that a barra wont do is strike a lot on the bottom, they usually like it in midwater.

Hi Pranab,

Heared from you after for a long time.

I managed to catch a decent size yellow fin sea bream (about 1kg)from Alseef with shrimps as bait. Also managed to catched other smaller fishes but relased them back. But the probelm at Alsee is that the line keeps getting stuck in the rocks.

I have forgoteen my password for the website, so i registered again.
