Hi Amir, Thanks for your mail. Looks like you’re are lucky. The rock fish as you say, is very smart, sometimes they gulp your bait and go inside the rocks, and when you try to reel in you feel your line is stuck……. in -between if you try to pull you may even feel the line is slack, then again tight…… but the best way out is (in either case), you keep cool and wait for some time, then wind without stopping…….. you’ll get the little rock fish with a big mouth and your hooks. Hi Ijlal, how are you. Please post the photos yar. Waiting to see them. Regards, Ronald. |

Hi Ronald, I went to Alseef again yesterday at about 6:30 pm. and stayed there for about an hour. Managed to catch one nagroor of about 500-600 gms, big enough to take home & two ugly fishes , I think they are rock fish. |

Hi Everyone, How are you’ll Hope all is well? Yesterday I was peeping in and out of the forum to see if anyone had written something, but nothing, so today I was happy to see two new comers. Even I felt lazy yesterday to write. Welcome – Chris & Richie to our forum. Here of course you’ll find most of your questions answered by experienced anglers. Enjoy your fishing and keep going. Amir – Thanks for your replies. I too was on palace side at Al Seef, at about 8 pm. Next time I will try with shrimps. Regards, Ronald. |

Hi Chris Nothing technical, spinning was with either a sabiki rig (set of feathers) with a 2 oz. weight, or a 2 oz. Yozuri sardine spooon (with wire trace). The sabiki rig was the best. With either one, you throw it out as far as you can and retrieve it pretty fast!! That's it!! The sabiki rig was 'halved', as the way they are sold comes with 6 hooks - too many! I use light tackle, so even 3 hooks would be too many if you had a trevally on each! I fished from breakwaters around the Marina area. Other anglers there had similar catches, with small kingfish too by some saltwater flyfishers. But we were not catching a lot - just one or two a session. I went early evening (an hour and a half before sunset). I tried it on different stages of the tide but it seemed to make little difference. The fishing declined as the weather got hotter, and by May was pretty dead. Hoping that as temperatures cool now, things will improve. Sorry, have no pics! |

Greetings all! I'm new to the forum but done no fishing since May here. Fished last spring mainly near Sheraton, Dubai Marina last spring, spinning and using feathers. Fish caught were mackerel, trevally, small barracuda and small queenfish. Fishing went dead there around mid May, bottom fishing using mackerel strip producing just under-sized shekali, under-sized sherri and the occasional stingray. Anyone catching round Jumeirah/Um Suqeim/Marina at the moment? Thanks Richie |

Ronald, Another thing, I always use shrimps as baits, may be the fishes in Alseef dont like dough & squid. Try out shrimps the next time you go to Alseef. |

Hi Ronald, I think you are at the wrong side of Alseef. You should come next to the Waterbus station situated near the Palace wall. Its my favorate spot as i have caught almost all my fish from there. But nothing bigger then 1kg. I am told once the season starts which should be around 15 sep 07, there would be alot of fish there. Yesterday I did manage to get a decent size yellow fin seabream from there but except for that not alot of bites. |

Hi Friends, Congrats!! It was nice to know that you’ll have been for a boat trip and enjoyed with good catch. I would again like to Congrat - Ijlal and his friend Shahzad, who came all the way from Abu Dhabi to join fishing with our forum friends in Dubai- this shows their interest. Keep it up! & wish you Good Luck in near future. Pranab – I was happy to know that this was a successful trip. Keep it going. Re: Next boat trip. If you don’t mind can we all plan it after the Ramazan, so that even our Muslim friends can join us without any problems, and secondly the weather would be also very good. Ofcourse, those willing can always plan anytime. Wish you had some photographs to share with us. As Amir said, we must write about our trips / catch with more details and pictures, so that it will be interesting to read. After long time, I had been for fishing at Al Seef. I was using squid and dough as bait, but no luck, and I even lost my hook for rocks. My son caught a small fish, which was released. Now a day Al Seef is full of boats and there’s hardly any place left for fishing. Wish you all Good Luck. Regards, Ronald. |

I went to Alseef yesterday @ 5p.m. After about 45 minutes i managed to get one decent size (about 700-800 gm) yellow-fin seabream which I took for consumption. No pictures available as I did not have my camera with me. Besides that not much bites. |

Guys as our website is getting boring each passing day & its us who could revive it. Therefore, I would suggest that we should post the fishing stories in a bit of detail & also upload the pictures of the catch. As I have also earlier said that if we go through some of the previous years post we could find alot of pictures. So we should keep up the trend. |

Amir, Trawling = The act of dragging a long vee shaped net behind a boat... (Commercial Fishing) Trolling = The act of pulling lures behind a boat to catch predatory fish (Sportfishing) Thanks, Ijlal |

Chua You are right in saying the line rating should match the rod rating; however, I wouldn't go so high as 30-80 lb rod if my aim is just to troll CD-18's. A 20-50 lb rod should be more than enough for the job. In my opinion, CD-18 does not create so much drag so as to disfigure a rod. I have trolled CD-26 and Mann's Stretch 25+ on 20 lb line on a 15-40 lb rated Penn Power Stick rod so many times, without difficulty or rod damage, but I guess it would also depend on the quality of the blank. Cheers, Ijlal |

Then I guess then I should borrow trawling equiptment from my cousin as spending AED 300 -500 on trawling eqipment would be a waste considering I do not do any sort of trawling here. |

30 lbs for trolling with rapalas CD14 or 18 is a good choice provide you get the right rod to go with. If you are using skirts, it will be lesser drag and will not cause the rod to bend alot. If you are trolling with CD18, do have a 30-80 lbs class rod to come with. Cos the drag by the water and rapalas might damage the rod with lower pound class, causing to form a slight permanent curve to the rod. BTW, the fishes at Karachi are considered good size, with lots of pelagic species which I observed from PGFA website and that should give you a good game. You might consider lowering your pound class once you are sure of handling such fishes and overcoming your aching back. Happy Fishing! |

Pranab / fishpal As guided by Pranab, i am using a 30lb fishing line here. As i would be going to Pakistan & i intend to do alot of fishing there. So do you guys think that the 30lb line is good for casting & trawling considering the sizes of fishes there is bigger than here or else i need to change some thing. |

Fishpal, Afew weeks ago I went to Creek park. I saw a few philipino guys catching fishes of a reasonable size there. They used a small fishing rod, with floats & bread as bait. Pranab has told me that is milk fish. I also tried to fish with floats & bread but was highly unsuccessful. I suggest you try out creek park for milk fish. regards amir |

When the condition of the water is bad, ie. high temperature or low, such fish exists to scavage on the scrubs on the seafloor. As such fish are highly tolerable in very extreme temperatures and water quality. They will be around at most of these times. Where every fish else has departed from the creek. Where is the milk fish? It is summer time! Time for 4lbs tackle! |

I went to Alseef yesterday. Managed nothing but the ugliest fish i have ever seen. I remember that a similar fish was earlier caught by a forum member & the name of the fish is either a rock fish or some thing else. I did not even have the guts to take the hook out but any how managed that and released it back to the waters. |

FISH ALERT!!! Hello everybody, I was just looking at the weather forecast for different places, and Fujairah got my attention immediately! Throughout the the next seven days, the maximum temperature is supposed to be 35-36 deg. Celcius. With a gentle Easterly wind, I say the conditions are very good for fishing and fish should be there now. Based on these conditions, I will make an educated guess that anybody fishing near rocky ground, such as from a breakwater, should be able to find trevallies, if nothing else. Of course, nothing can be guaranteed, but it is definitley worth a try! Tight lines! Ijlal |

Joerg, Thats correct. There was a similar situation in Karachi where a lot of dead fish was seen at the beaches & after investigation it was found that a fishing Trwler had disposed off the dead fish in to the sea & the dead fish spread through the entire shore. I cant understand how such a thing can happen here considering the law is so strict here. Does any one else have any info on this. Its good that you would be available after 15 but I dont think that alot of these guys go for fishing on boats. However they do go for alot of shore fishing specially Pranab, Ijlal, Chua, Ronald & Tayyab. |

Hi Guys Yesterday Pranab & I went to Alseef. Fished there for half an hour but no luck except for one small fish which i rerleased. There was a lot of dead fish in & around Alseef. Whereas a few days a go i went to the Creek Park there was dead fish there too. I think that the fish was rotten as other fishes & crabs were not eating them. Any idea where they came. I think that the trawler or boat had thrown the in to the sea. |

Hi Ijlal, Correct Churna is a wonderful place for fishing. I used to frequently visit Mubarak Village & Churna as my cousin's (Ali)his boat anchored at mubarak village but i wasnt invloved in fishing to a great extent there. I used to mainly due bottom fishing that to not with a fishing rod but with a simple fishing line. I would Inshallah be going to KRI for EID & hope to fish there with the gear i have bought here. lets see if i could get some thing big there. |

Meeting personally, ofcourse broaden ups the mind and we know each other better. I missed the opportunity, but hope I can make it next time. I appreciate people like Ijlal and his friend Shahzad who came all the way from AbuDhabi – keep up your good spirit. Pranab- Appreciate what you are doing for amnesty people. Hi Amir- I could not make it last weekend. Good that you’ll are planning for a boat trip. Hope the climate on that day would be pleasant. Good Luck. Regards, Ronald |

Amir, Sorry for the late response on your question. Yes I have caught lots of big fish in the vicinity of Churna Is. I have spent the better part of my life in Karachi (22 years) but no longer live there; my family is currently residing in Rawalpindi, but I do hope I will be able to relocate to Karachi once I decide to go back. I only started serious fishing here about 9 months ago when I came to know of Shahzad through PGFA. Haven't been out on a boat yet, and my biggest fish from shore in Abu Dhabi is only a 6.5 kg barracuda. We do have big plans for the coming season though! Thanks, Ijlal |

Guys, I was thinking if we can plan a joint boat fishing trip out of Dubai. If around 10 to 12 people pool in for a full day's boat hire it should be lots of fun and still keep the per person share quite affordable. Of course, I do not mean a trolling trip but a bottom fishing one. Anybody is game enough to second me??? Cheers! Ijlal |

A man was fishing. It was a postcard flat day. He began his outing with a 20kg Spanish Mackerel on the first cast and a beautiful Coral Trout on the second. On the third cast he scored the largest Red Emperor he had ever caught when his mobile phone rang, and as he went to pick it up, his float line went off so he ignored it. As he landed his first ever Dolphinfish the phone rang again. It was a doctor notifying him that his wife had just been in a terrible accident and was in critical condition in ICU. The man told the doctor to inform his wife where he was and that the he'd be there as soon as possible. As he hung up, he realized he was leaving, what was shaping up to be, his best ever fishing trip. He decided to get in a couple of more casts before heading to the hospital. He ended up catching several personal bests, hit the bag limit on three species, and all in all, had his best day's fishing by far. He was jubilant.... Then he remembered his wife. Feeling guilty he dashed to the hospital. He saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about his wife's condition. The doctor glared at him and shouted, "You went ahead and kept fishing didn't you! you callous bastard"! "I hope you're proud of yourself! While you were out for the past four hours enjoying yourself on the ocean, your wife has been languishing in the ICU! It's just as well you went ahead and finished the fishing because it will be more than likely your last fishing trip! For the rest of her life she will require 'round the clock care. And you'll be her care giver!" The man was feeling so guilty he broke down and sobbed . The doctor snickered and said, "Just kidding. She's dead. What'd you catch?" |

Hi ijlal , Yes that are the rules in dubai . If caught min fine from the municipality is AED 350 . People who dont know the rules does fish with two rods but its against rules . Not only that each line must have max 3 hook limitation . Squid hooks are prohibited . Restricted areas of fishing . Jebel Ali beach , Ganthoot , and also offlate opposite gold souk corniche . If caught fising here heavy penalty which can run up to 3000 dirhams . Imaginge that , you can go thrice fishing in mussandam . My best advice if you want to fish and dont want to be penalised . Fish with hand line and dont ever keep any id like driving lisense or and id cards in your pocket . There are instances when the offender tried to run away but got caught have been slapped fine just on the basis of driving lisence . Its true . regards |

Pranab, Don't tell me you are allowed to fish with only one rod? That's pathetic! I mean one rod is okay if you are casting lures, but how can one baitcast with only one rod? Is that the norm in Dubai? Cheers, Ijlal |

Thank you so much for the answer. I think when I go fishing I will go with one of you guys when I settel down the next week. Wow fishing licence and rules. I am still in Germany? My Dad is now in Ak for Fishing and he reported a great summer. I got last year teh catch of my life in the Kenai River. A 50 pound King Salmon. Took me 45 minutes with a boat. He runes up and down in the river like he want to. I will make a picture link for you guys. My biggest halibut was 60 pound but both fishes were for Alaska babies. The record for King is from 1985 and 97 pound Every year they catch a couple 80 pounders. The record for halibut is 320 pound from 2001 and every day they catch with the charters a lot in the range of 200 pounds. But I am not a charter guy. I want to haver fun and enjoj with nice people. Work on and with the boat,....... Nice people here around....... |

Hello Joerg, Welcome to the forum! To answer your last question first, yes, fishing licences are required to fish in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and you cannot have one licence to fish in both the emirates! Guys from Dubai will be better able to guide you about Dubai licence. You can, however, fish in the other emirates without a licence but you have to know which places are prohibited. Unlike other parts of the world, if a place is declared a wildlife sanctuary or nature reserve, even recreational angling is not allowed. You must have caught some huge fish in your life, especially halibut, which grow quite large, and what better place to fish for them than Alaska! Hope you enjoy your membership on this forum! Thanks, Ijlal |
