We've had no trips from 15-21 November. However, this week has been a different story. We've gone out 12 times. Majority of the trips we've been catching some tuna (black fin), some bonitas and barracuda. A couple of the trips even caught some dorado as well as good size (40# range) wahoo. Yesterday, one of the boats caught about a 400# SHARK! Yes, you read that right. It was about 8 feet long and took 2 hours to reel in. Apparently, in it's belly was the wahoo it tried to take! We're getting into more tourist season, so we'll try to post more regularly. You can always phone and ask us, at 888.333.4643. |

We last posted mid September. We've pulled one of the big boats out of the water and are just getting ready to put it back in the water this week. Good news is, the boat is going to be brand new on the inside with more seating and coverage! Had about 20 trips in October. Most the fishing was tuna, mackerel, amber jacks, grouper, wahoo, shark and barracuda with a couple sails and dorado thrown in here or there. Same mix for about November. We're catching guys! Don't you worry. It's not as busy as this year, as it was last year. Last year the fish were just jumping on the boats! ahah. That's why they call it fishing and not catching folks. We've got great captain and crew, that cap get them on the line 98 out of 100 trips. Have faith, if you fish, we'll likely get you something. |

And who says that 13 is an unlucky number.
Todays Charter brought in
4 Black fin tunas up to 25 pounds 4 Barracudas - largest was 35 pounds 1 Wahoo weighing at 41 pounds
and they lost 3 mahi-mahis - according to Pedro they were the big ones. However, since they did not land any we are not going to claim that the dorados are here. We may do that within the next few days.

Fished with Albatros charters on Jan 30. Great day. Caught some small fish with the kids in the morning, then went deep sea fishing in the afternoon.
Caught 1 nice barracuda, 2 tuna, 1 tuna head (bitten off by a big wahoo), and an AWESOME 7 foot lemon shark. What a battle bringing him in, then another battle seeing Pedro, Antonio, and Philipe' wrestle the shark onto the boat.
The fishing trip of a lifetime.

Subject: Bill fishing in Cozumel area
Rocky,
The billfish, i.e. white and blue marlin as well as sailfish are in our area year around. However, they are here in bigger numbers between March and July. We have landed double sails last November when everybody told us that we could not. The marlins do follow the schools of dorados as they do feed on them. We do land marlins and sails some of the time and we do try hard - read some of the unbiased postings from our guests. Yesterday we had a late afternoon charter - 4:00 PM and they did land a white marlin along with tunas and a barracuda. My question to you will be how lucky are you? We feel that we are lucky enough and will try our best in getting you the fish and it will be yours to reel in. We wish that we could guarantee a billfish landing to all our guests but than we are just ordinary human beings (no super powers here, sorry). We do wish you the best of luck (buena suerte) in landing your billfish on your charter date. |

Just wanted to thank you for the trip on Saturday. We have fished the last 3 years trying to catch my wife a billfish. We did the Bahamas and Key West to no avail.Pedro, Antonio, and Fellipe finally ended the drought. When I explained to them the need for a billfish they worked their buts off to make it happen. My wife finally caught her sailfish. We will definitly be making a return trip next year. The most courteous crew we have dealt with in years.

Hi, I'm the one who had to end the fishing day early much as I hated it. It was said that it was maybe the cruise ship food that made me sick or mother nature, But in truth it is because I am about to become a mother again, being that I am about 3 1/2 months pregnant, and this baby must not like fishing. We will book a trip after the baby comes, My son Tyler and husband had a great time. Pedro and Antonio did a great job, just the fish didn't bite even with all of my chumming!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks again. Subject: Fish report for week of 26 May 2003
This was another good week of fishing for us on the days that we fished. Thursday and Friday we had off due to the lack of customers. Actually we were kind of glad as we had quite a bit of rain, but than fishing in the rain is fun too. Leading up to Thursday we were catching fish as you can see from the prior posting, howeever, on one if the days we did come back in early as our guests were not feeling well. I am going to blame that on the cruise ship food instead of mother nature, how is that? Currently our fishing areas are running around 2 to 4 foot rollers, nothing much or heavy and all the action seems to be shifted to the southern end.
As for what we have been catching, if the clients did/could weather out the seas they were rewarded by marlins, dorados along with wahoos and spanish mackerels. Otherwise it has been bonitas, barracudas and ocean triggers.
This week is a busy one and i will try posting on Monday. Until than keep them fish coming!!! |

We had an awesome time on the Albatros with Captain Pedro, and mates Antonio and Filipe. They picked us up at the Iberostar and we were fishing within 15 minutes and catching within minutes after. In our six hour trip, we caught 18 tuna and two dorado. We had a white marlin until it jumped and spit the hook. The longest we went without a hit was less than 40 minutes. These amigos are great fisherman. The cost of the trip was well worth it . . . nothing fun and exciting is ever cheap. We will be fishing with Albatros next year. While in Cozumel, you MUST fish with Albatros. The owners Rita and Burak can answer all your questions, just e-mail them. |

Subject: Private Charter
During a company meeting in Cozumel, several of our staff went out with Albatros Charters. The owners and crew met us up at our hotel's dock at the agreed upon time. The captain and worked non-stop from the time we left the dock. Our group caught 8 tuna and a barracuda. The crew was great! Several of our group had never been deep sea fishing before and the staff made them feel like old timers! Being in the travel industry myself, I know how important customer service can be for referral and repeat business. I highly would and will recommend Albatros Charters for a quality fishing charter when in Cozumel. |

Finally we did win the third place out of 190 boats in the Puerto Morelos tournament held over this weekend . Our placement was with a 90 pound white marlin and a 70 pound bull dorado as well as other dorados.
For the rest of the week we did land quite a few fish and did manage get skunked one day. However, the days we landed fish we did quite good with 15 dorados , a wahoo, a shark and a white marlin one day and 10 tunas, 3 dorados and a white marlin another day. The other days the catches were mostly dorados and tunas.
Until next week, tight lines to all.... |

Subject: Fish Report for week of 12 May
This was definitely a slow week, you can call it the full moon phase or what ever you wish but it was slow both in fishing as well as customers. Had couple of no shows and it did really hurt the feelings of our crews, but than again its life, cést la vie!
The local tournament was held this past weekend also and one of the boats that should have won with a 300 plus pound blue marlin was disqualified because he came in late for the check in. Even though he reported the catch at 3:30PM he was not at dock before 5:00PM. I guess they expected him to land the fish in 30 minutes or less. There goes one more victim to the local politics and choosing sides. The boat that won did belong to a company with old money as well as connections. Need I say more - oh yes I can - we were not lucky enough to land big enough fish to place. We did lose a blue and a white marlin along the way though.
We are not giving up in this tournament bid as we did land a white marlin and 3 good sized dorados on todays trip. Will try this coming weekend at another tournament. More next week. |

Subject: Fish Report for week of 5 May 2002
Finally we are landing billfish almost on a daily basis. They musy have heard about the upcoming local tournaments. However, we are still not seeing dorados like we did in the years past. Everyone seems to blame the currents and the weather patterns for the lack of fish.
In any case, during last week on 3 of the days we did land white marlins that were in the 80 to 90 pound range along with tunas and smaller dorados in 10 pound range. On one of days the boat came back with 15 yellow tail snappers, 1 wahoo, 3 tunas and 1 barracuda - we were not even going after the snappers.
Hopefully we will land more of these billfish this week, specially during this weekends tournament. Will keep everyone posted. Good luck |

Subject: Fish Report through 4 May 2003
Sorry about not posting reports. I guess, I just got too busy with fishing, diving, property management and construction of our new office/house. This happens when one of us is out of town. In any case here is a quick report:
The seas have been relatively calm - the fishing grounds 2 to 4' rollers, nothing heavy just rocks the boat and does make some queasy - sorry folks but we can not control mother nature - have you ever tried controlling a female? Let alone your mother - forget it!
The bill fish seems to be on the south end of the island as we are catching them there - last monday almost had a grand slam but could not land a blue marlin - got the white marlin and the sailfish but no blue. The rest of the week we did try other locations and came back with decent sized wahoos, tunas and barracudas but not much else. We did try fishing the south end on other days but the rolling got the best of our guests and we did come back to calmer waters. For some reason we are not seeing any dorados (mahi-mahi) this year. We really need those guys for great fights as well as great lunches and dinners. Hey, I am not snubbing my nose at tunas and wahoos - just need some more variety and this is the only time of the year we usually get these guys. We are hoping that they will be in the area for the next 2 tournaments.
Until next time, tight lines.... |

Hi everyone, I'll be staying in Playa Del Carmen and I'd like to find another person, couple, or a few other people (not more than 3), that would like to split a full day charter. I'd prefer to go after Marlin and Sailfish. We could leave from PDC, or Cozumel. I'd like to do it on May 7th, 8th, or 9th. Please e-mail me if you're interested. |

Subject: Fish report for week of 14 April
This was a mixed bag of a week as the landings differed a lot from boat to boat but overall it was not a bad week at all.
In summary, we did land decent sized eating fish almost all of the days. The catches included 60 pound king mackarel, 55 and 60 pound wahoos, once we had triple wahoo hookups and landed them all - this is not the norm for wahoos. Saw lots of sails and marlins lost a few and landed a few as well. One day we landed 3 sails and the next day we lost a big blue marlin. Oh well, they will be out there during next week as well.
Until next time, hasta la vista |

Subject: Fish report for week of 7 April
These Nortes definitely play hell with the local waters and the fishing grounds. We did have to cancel 2 trips due to port closures just to have them open the ports within the next 1/2 hour. Of course all our clients had gone to town or to other locations so we could not find them. They were disappointed and so were we.
Lots of people are asking us why we are not landing as many billfish - our answer is - we ask the fishing party what they want to do catch billfish or have lots of action because these are 2 different fishing grounds and we go with their choice. When you see lots of tunas we are on the south of the island at other times we are onthe mainland side.
In any case, here is what we landed this week: Monday - 12 tunas, 1 wahoo, 1 barracuda and 1 spanish mackerel Tuesday - 2 wahoos, 1 dorado, 1 barracuda and 2 rainbow fish Wednesday - 3 bonitos, 1 wahoo (this is the day when we had to cancel 2 trips) Thursday - 2 barracudas, 2 bonitas, 1 rainbow fish second boat - 1 sailfish and lost 2 white marlins Friday - 8 bonitas, 2 tunas, 2 spanish mackerels second boat - 2 spanish mackerels and lost 2 sails Saturday - 6 tunas, 2 spanish mackerels, 2 bonitas Sunday - 4 tunas, 1 wahoo, lost 2 sharks
Until next report buen suerte to all!

The week started with a closed port due to the storm and the effects of the storm lasted through Wednesday. Here is what we ended up landing through the week:
1 April - 1 white marlin, 1 dorado 2 and 3 April - actually got skunked on 2 of the 3 trips we took. 4 April - finally into fish again - boat 1 - 2 wahoos, 19 tunas, boat 2 - 3 wahoos, 5 April - a grand slam of a day, 2 white marlins 70 to 90 pound range, 6 dorados, 1 wahoo, 1 tune, 1 amber jack, 1 what we call rainbow fish.
We are taking Sunday off and back to fishing next week. Tight lines and screaming reels. |

Subject: Latest catches
Bryan,
Actually instead of us some of our guests have been posting their own report for us. See metrokurt below.
On a separate report, the ports were closed on Sunday and Monday due to high winds and reopened yesterday amid cloudy and cold skies. The currents have been whipping in areas like crazy. Yesterday, 1 April we did land a white marlin and a dorado. We are out today for 3 trips so will post later tonight.
Thank you for following our reports |

Subject: Looking for a charter
Hello,
I would like to charter a boat on Cozumel. We have two adults and two boys (12&13). We will be arriving on the Carnival Victory at 8:00 am on Tuesday April 15th. Is there decent fishing this time of year? What kind of fish can be expected? Any recommended charter boats? Are we better off looking for someone once we arrive, or are we better off pre-booking? I'm looking for a half day or possibly a whole day of fishing.
Thank you! |

Ok, here it is for the past 3 days:
23 March - 2 barracudas, a sail and a big white marlin
24 March - 2 good size spanish mackerels and 3 tunas around 25 pounds each
25 March - 10 tunas, 1 wahoo landed, 1 wahoo fed to sharks. I guess a wahoo on line can not get away from the sharks no matter how big the wahoo is. |

Finally one of the boats did land a white marlin yesterday along with a wahoo while the other one managed to squeeze in a big tuna, a barracuda and a large wahoo head - the rest of thre fish, i.e. about 50 pounds of it, became black tip reef shark food.
Todays only trip landed 6 tunas and a barracuda on rough seas. Had to go back in early due to sickness.
Manana we are changing locations and going after sails and marlins. Tight lines.... |

Allen,
The sails are here but so far they are not playing. As you can see from John's posting he did land his sailfish but they are few and far in between, and the rest of his charter was slow. Right now if somebody wanted to catch sailfish only we will have to change fishing locations and cross the channel. However, this does not guarantee other species as the mainland side is somewhat slow this year. We will post as soon as we land more sails. |

Subject: Great Fishing
Hola,
We went fishing with Albatros 3/10/03. And we think we had the greatest day fishing yet.!!!!!!!
We did catch a shark. It took my husband about an hour and 45 minutes to land. And it took Pedro, Anterio, and Phillipe about 15 minutes to get the shark onto the boat.
My husband only has to say that, YOU BETTER WORKOUT, before you try to land a fish of that size.
I did land a dorado. Pedro did help out by backing the boat down on the fish for me. It was a experiance that will become a memory. And it made my fight with "my fish" easier than my husbands (but my husband doesn't realize why yet).
I would recommend Albatos to anyone rather than the fishing trips that can be arranged thru the hotels. We talked to alot of people who booked these chaters who reported ----no fish-----!!!!!
Albatros worked very hard to ensure good fishing. They made our fishing trip memorable.
To the crew of Albatros we say thanks for the memories.
We do have pictures that will be forth coming in a day or two.

Well out of 2 boats all we got was a bunch of tunas. While one boat hooked onto 23 tunas and brought in 18 plus 5 others after the sharks took their share and a barracuda the second boat brought in a dozen of them. I know I did not post this yesterday but boat 2 did land a good size sailfish on the mainland side, but nothing else. So far all the action seems to be on the south end of the island. |

Well, when you are swamped you can only do so much and we do have to apologize to all of you not keeping our end up with the reports. We have been catching quite a few fish lately and here is a sampling of what we did bring in in the past 2 days, 2 and 3 March
2 March - 17 tunas, 2 dorados, 1 bonito and a cooler full of trigger fish - this is on 2 sport fishing boats and 1 bottom fishing boat. 3 March - while 1 boat brought in 1 dorado, 2 tunas and a shark the other one managed to bring in 10 tunas, 4 dorados and 1 barracuda in 2 half day trips.
It is official now that the dorados are here and the marlins are not too far behind.
