Dear Ian ,

Let me first tell you i adore you as a passionate fisherman . Secondly I am very sorry if any of my posts were taken out of context and misunderstood by you . I will definately call you when i get the no of your cell .

Thirdly i think you aer making this distinction of my forum or your forum . I dont own this forum . I dont earn money from this forum . I write here because i like fishing . And here no one can tell me stop writing .

The fish emirates forum is your forum . You get monetery benefits from it . Now the question why i dont write in your forum .

I take your words . You dont want any controversy in your forum . And you do have the rights to stop people if they rake controversy . As you know my writing style will raise controversy . Thats the only reason i did not write in your forum . Recently i saw you blocked people from viewing your forum who are not members . Why is it so . I was going reguarly there reading it . Enjoyed it also . Just to stay out of controversy i did not comment .

Now coming to the imageshack thing . Buddy be fair . How many times you have advertised your fourm in this forum . You have done that time immorial . Have any one stopped you . The owner of this forum are too good . They did not block you . You divided people to make your forum more commercial . Did any one stop you . Did any one make even a single comment . The answer is no .

Then why you should now be so sensitive about image shack . I dont know any other pic hosting site so i used it . Whats wrong in it . Why do you misunderstand on this issue . I think you are over reacting on this issue . If you know another webhosting facility which enables to host pics i will definately use that if u give me . And more over the owner of this forum never intimated me about this problem . So to me i am happy hosting pics of few fish which people would love to see .

In that process if i had hurt you or ur business interest i am extremly sorry and i apologise to you . We asians are taught to be submissive and thats the reason i will call you and apologise over phone even . No issues at all . Thats the reason i was trying to get the point clear that we should bond as fisherman rather than enter in any useless controversy like legal and commercial interests which are not related to fishing . Hope with this post of mine and my phone call to you , the hatchet can be buried from your side . He he because i dont have any .

With regards

Pranab

Strangely, in Brunei this fish have no value. We never knew that its so prized here.

How much is the value per kilo for such a rare fish?

Well here is one pic of a fish which we think is "the fish". Weighing about 5kg, caught by one of our Bruneian friend, Muhammad sometime about 3weeks back.

He hooked up another BIG one estimated to be around 15-20kgs but managed to get away...using a dardaman(yellow tail scad) as a live bait.

Just last Monday we caught another one about 6-7kgs. Both these fish we gave away to the guy who looked after our friend's boat in Abu Dhabi....not realising the value.

Best Regards!

Hi Shahzad,

Nice of you to find some time and write about fishing yaar! Your new business will take its time and we all wish you success, but do try to give just a little time to fishing too, as this will keep you fresh and you will be able to devote the remaining time to your business more efficiently.

Best of luck!

Dearest Pranab,

You said and I quote "Because off late due to this cobia and cat fish controversy one of our forum members were out casted or you can say banished from another forum . So you can imagine the importance of this fish."

I would just like to point out that (and I am sure Ijlal will verify the facts) Mr. Ijlal was not cast out, or bannished from the fish emirates forum. He left of his own accord after I asked him to be observant and understanding of other peoples mistakes in posting fish names and not belittle them as being stupid.

I am sorry that Ijlal felt the need to leave the fish emirates forum (although I know he visits everyday) as his knowledge is invaluable and was most welcomed. However and I must state again ..... it was HIS choice to leave.

Oh and one last thing ...... Please stop calling it Ian's forum ...... It is not MY forum, it is everybodys forum ...... It was set up by me yes ...... I am the leader NO ....... But like everything someone has to oversee the everyday running of it (just like a business or dare I say a country even) If it left unattended (much like this forum) then people will be at liberty to say whatever the F**K they like and abuse whoever they like.

I hope you realise that because of your latest post I will now do what Mr. Ijlal has done in the fish emirates forum and leave for good. I have tried to be an active member in both forums but blaming me without knowing both sides of the story is not befitting a man like yourself. If you really want to know the full side of the story the ask Chua for my number and call me.

Remeber one thing I have never done anything except try to improve the knowledge of fishing in the emirates & oman for everybodies benefit.

Just one more thing I have noticed that you are using the imageposter website for posting images on this forum??? Just a word of advice ..... this is used on the fish emirates forum as it came from the forum hosts freeforums.org as part of the package. Please be careful using it in here as this forum and the hosts of this forum might not have permission to use it and you could get them in to trouble. I wonder why they removed the facilty to post pictures in the first place?????

Thanks everybody for the last 5 months it has been both interesting and may I say in some form informative.

Goodbye from the big bad monster ..... I will see you on the other side hopefully :-)

Pranab,

Nice comparative review by you on them casting reels. I would just like to add that the ABU's are great reels and favourites of surf fishermen, especially in the US. While the 525 mags and 7HT's may be able to cast a few extra yards in the hands of tournament casters, the ABU's are the easiest ones to cast of them all. As far as drag is concerned, you can always replace the standard drag washers with new Carbontex ones and you will be able to exert all the pressure you require for almost any of the fish you may encounter while shore fishing. I just got a set for my 6600CL!

Just my two cents...

Thanks,
Ijlal

In any case, thank you for your support - I really appreciate it.

hi parnab,
thanks for couple of information.first of all COBIA and CAT fish both are looks very different, in color, shape, fins, and size and shape of mouth.
the other thing about the casting reels.525mag and 7ht millionaire are no doubt good reels, but less line capacity compared to daiwa 30sha or shv series reels m using DAIWA 30SHA reel really its a challenge to cast that extra fast reel to cast without brake blocks.and 7ht is more costly even double price compare to DAIWA 30SHA.
in my opinion if u compare with the cost, line capacity, and productivity, DAIWA 30SHA is best.if some day we'll meet i'll bring and u'll cast it so u must enjoy to cast this with my TICA 12'casting rod.by the way parnab u r trying hard to keep this forum alive, good effort keep it up.Now a days i m very busy with my new bussiness thats why i m not visiting forum much.take care.

hi guys ,

Some fishermen talk a lot some dont . Lets see what some of my fishing buddies are doing quitely . I am proud to have fishing buddies like these . These guys used to write in this forum but not any more . This is what i am trying to get at . We must be a community and be brotherly to each other . These fishing buddies still fish as its in their blood . Lets join hands togather and make this forum a better place

Dear abdul ,

Can you please post a pic of the cobia which u hooked up . For gods sake do you know how lucky you are to get this fish . Never again in life give it to any one else as its soooooo tasty . And if you are allergic to cobia release it or at least giv it to me . Pelople at this part of the world take pride as fisherman to hook up such a fish . Its considered to be a trophy in uae waters as they aer quite rare now a days . I am sure our forum members would be glad to have a look at the picture .

Because off late due to this cobia and cat fish controversy one of our forum members were out casted or you can say banished from another forum . So you can imagine the importance of this fish .

In future if you hook a guitar fish or a cobia pls take pictures before releasing them . They are very very rare . In this forum only one guy got a report of a guitar fish beside alsheef stop that too years ago . They are almost vanished from uae waters . Here in uae lot of people confuse between a cat fish and a cobia as they have similar body shapes but cobia is mostly bigger in size .

But dont stop writing because of that . I admire your passion for fishing . I am glad that u decided to write again . We are all a small community . We should always bond togather . Thats our core strength.

7HT MAG , 525 SUPER MAG XTRA , ABU 6500 CT3 MAG

REVIEW COMPARISION

All the manufacturers claims they are the best in long distance . Hence few months back i told chua lets order them one by one . Although i was the first to order the 525 super mag xtra but i never got it but paid the money to guy in uk . I was sad and chua got his 525 super mag xtra . When chua got his reel we were at al sheef 3 months back throwing 525 super mag xtra . We were glad to see it gives min 150 meters distance without any kind of effort with his corno flex blank .

And yesterday we were again two crazy guys undeneath makhtoum around 10.30 night . I told as he is more experienced with multipliers to throw the line first . He threw it 3 to 4 times every time above 150 plus . Then chua was teasing me its your reel try once or are u scared not to get distance . I was not aware of the tuning of the reel as it needs some adjustments in the 5 magnets and also in the spindle . But chua as humble he is taught it to me properly and i threw it without mag but with spindle adjustment . The result there was a sweet never ending song in the reel . For a novice like me in multiplier i saw the 200 meter was almost exhausted and we can see the sindle . Approximately 180 plus . I am sure with likes of kompressor or HST primo it would be a deadly combination .

To end up i must say both are good reels 525 super mag xta and 7HT mag but the latter beats the former in distance and much much smoother in bearings . I would say 525 super mag xtra is a wild horse without control . 7HT MAG power with grace and control it wizzes past air like an african antelope with its graceful motion .

Apprantly i feel the only drawback about 7HT mag
is its one speed less than 525 and also it has a shorter power handle . Although i hv not used them for jigging because i hardly go on boats but i think with a bigger power handle 525 super mag xtra will elbow out 7HT MAG . But then again 7HT mag has got a more line capacity 330 .

And abu 6500 CT mag i would rate third as their drag is awful although they claim 2008 model has been modified with a better drag .

Over all Both are fabolous reels and as my fishing buddy told me that japanes fishermen are going all over this reel has got definately a reason to do so . Now my biggest problem is my home minister if she finds out i got another new reel she will kick me across makthoum bridge and i will be flying faster than a sinker . So i am keeping the reel in chuas house till his wife arrives and they will gift me on our marriage anniversery hehe .

By the way any international readers who know about mag settings of 7HT mag please contribuite and make me more knowledgable . All me and chua found out to throw 52 gram rapala it needs 5 mag setting. And for 3 oz weight no mag setting was giving best result with a slight tightening of the spindle control . I wish the manufacturers gave scales for the spindle control too .

Best regards

Pranab

Pranab,

You are right about O. Mustad & Sons. They are the worlds oldest (probably) and biggest manufacturers of fishing hooks. I too wouldn't buy anything else if I could get a Mustad.

Incidentally, I am a proud owner of one of the biggest fish hooks Mustad probably ever produced! It was presented to me as a tournament trophy and is one foot long or more, and has a gape around 8 inches! It is beautifully displayed on a teak plaque with small aluminium name plate with "O Mustad & Sons established in ..." engraved upon. When I go home I'll take a photo (if I remember) and post it for all of you to see.

Having said so much about Mustad, there are other manufacturers such as Gamakatsu, Eagle Claw, etc., who do make high quality hooks.

Cheers,
Ijlal

Dear abdul ,

If you want to see lighter rods with durability just visit chua . I hv no doubt that he is the best rod builder around middleast . I am not over stating i have handled rods build by chua and if u throw them in the air they will float down in the cusion of air . And i have seen how strong they are in the mussandam area when they were put into use . The blanks used over there are from japan , newzealand and usa for example CTS , CORNOFLEX AND JIGGING MASTER .

About the sabiki prices let me tell you i wil take you to shops where you will get cheaper . You just have to go to the main importer . Who normally dont seel loose . But i can get you those at cheaper prices around deria area .

But for me i prefer mustard hooks some how . I mean the norway made one not the chinese MUSTARD . There are two varities in the dubai market you have to be careful . The whole seller for MUSTARD hooks are MARINE AGRICULTURAL RESOUCES . They also hold the agency for HUMMING BIRD . So that is the place to go for .

With regards

Pranab

Ian - Spot on!

Just want to share my 2cents as well.

Even I have cheaper rods other than the Jigwrex. However I will ensure that they are worth the money I had paid for them. The Eupro Turbo Jerk costed me about AED170 and then the Pioneer Tackle Sea Conqueror which was for AED150.

Obviously the saying "You get what you pay for" is 100% correct. These rods are good but heavier than the more expensive Jigwrex, although it is rated at higher strength.

Additionally, the Jigwrex was also offered with a full 01 year "no questions asked" warranty....sort of "you break it, they will replace it." Not the other two rods though.

As for the sabiki, the ones over here are way over priced! I got them in Brunei for less than half the prices here......the good quality ones which are made in Japan or Korea. Sabikis are used to target relatively palm sized schooling fishes thus they don't have to be that durable. Additionally after few uses, the "decos" will disintegrate thus need replacement so the moderately (but considerably good strength/quality) priced ones should do.

Cheers!

Hi Guys,

Been reading your posts regarding prices of rods & reels etc.

There is an old saying in Russia (So my misses tells me) "We are not rich enough to buy cheap rubbish"

I would just like to say...... At the end of the day you get what you pay for. I mean I buy Sabiki rigs from Dragon Mart because at the end of the day I use them 2 or 3 times and then replace them ...... So I would rather pay 3.5 or 4dhs each (all hook sizes) than 8 - 24dhs (depending on hook size) in the tackle shops. I agree Pranab that sometimes you will lose a fish due to a bad hook ..... but that can also happen with Mustad hooks.

However I have bought a cheap light rod & reel from dragon mart and as I only use it for catching small live baits and not anything big it is fine. And also as it gets thrown around the boat quite a lot so for 120dhs I am not to upset if it gets damaged. Up to now it has worked very well and have had no problems what so ever.

Also all my other gear is (like Abdul's) Shimano, Penn, Shakespear etc ...... I know that if I look after it will last me a long time. It is a lot more expensive but it is worth it in the long run.

Also I have looked at some of these so called ..... made in korea ..... made in china .... made in taiwan .... rods and reels and to be honest I can't tell the difference. They are all cheap and not so good!!!!

Lastly I would just like to say ..... If your down at the breakwater and you have your personal best Hammour on the end of your line and your rod breaks because you saved a couple of hundred dirhams and you still have to replace your old cheap rod ..... don't come crying to me :-)

Just my 2 cents :-)

Tight Lines,

Hi Si Kim,

Like I said before, most of the fishing rods and reels available over here are either HIGHLY OVERPRICED or EXTREMELY low quality. This is the main reason why I got my rods and reels from Brunei. Lots of high quality, moderately priced rods and reels are available e.g Shimano, Daiwa, Okuma, Xzoga, Carpenters, Shakephere, Eupro, Abu Garcia, G.Loomis, Pioneer Tackle etc.

The lures are however much cheaper here. Rapala size 11-14 are about half the price than in Brunei.

My Shimano Jigwrex S605, cost me about AED750 while it is listed at about US$350!

Get Pranab, to guide you around to the best shops to go to.

Dear kim ,

98% fishing rods available in dubai are chinese made . There is hardly anything korean here . Except one company which i knw is benax has got korean original stuff . There is a tackle company wan hai tackle co which is located at dragon mart on al aveer road after vegetable market behind the epcco petrol pump block EF . Even they although sticks a sticker made in korea actually its all china . Please note that the hooks are so poor quality they will loose fish during fights . So though they are cheap they are not worth . The rapals frm this chinese shops are so bad they even loose their action after few use . But yes for one or two days fishing they are a bargain . But dont get fooled by tackle shops claiming they keep korean made items . I knw about 30 shops across the emirates . In fact i can give u a shop even in sharjah who keep decent stuff . But if u want to come down to dubai you are most welcomed .

Hi to all,

Yesterday I went to Deira library area to buy a long-casting rod which is 4.5~5.0 mt long. There were many fishing shops. At one of the shops I found a 4.5 mt rod and I asked for the price. The answer was Dhs.175.(rod only excl. reel). The shop owner said it was Korean made carbon rod, folded, and was a very nice price.
To me the rod didn't look so nice to be worthy of that price. In Korea, I could buy that kind of rod at U$15~$20. Do you folks think that it is appopriate price here in Dubai? or the shop owner tried to rob me blind? At which price do you think we can buy a 4.5 mt long rod?

Went out fishing with few friends just off the cost of Abu Dhabi last Saturday morning and Monday morning.

List of catches are as follows;

LOTS of yellow tail scad (dardaman)
Few hamour
Few Sea Bream
Queen Fish
Few silver snappers
and a medium size Kobia

The dardamans were in huge schools. Just put down your "Sabiki" hooks (6-10). Almost everytime, you will get a "full house". Few of them are quite big, measuring almost 30cms (head to tip of tail)!

Brought the hamour home and steamed it (chinese style) rightaway........sure was "plate licking" sweet!

Best Regards!

Hi Si Kim
Sorry to hear you had no luck on your first fishing trip here, but don't lose heart, shore fishing is tough at the moment, and last w/end especially so with the rough weather.
I managed to get out the last two weekends on a boat here in Dubai, last w/end quite good with a lot of small queens/barracuda/grouper/other stuff and a medium-sized cobia hitting deep diving rapalas.
This Sat was a bit murky due to the storm on Thurs, so just had hook ups with a small barracuda and a king.
Hope to head out on the east coast next weekend.
For Creek anglers, you may care to read this post about the edibility of fish in the Creek in today's 7 Days!

Best of luck to all!

Dear kim ,

I think you are at the right spot . But there are no people living in that boken down village . Its now turned in a construction site . But there are make shift construction offices and a mosque . Yes its the entrance to the lagoon and fishing boats pass by it . I am sorry i cant go fishing on saturdays as i work on that day . I go there on fridays mostly . In fact today i will be going to that area as i got some job at sharjah khalid port . So if you in the vicinity of the area give me a call on my cell during the first half . You can reach on my cell given below . The best spot in that area is power house of layeh station which is an restricted area . But i got an arab friend in the port who is the operations director . He promised me he will tell the security so that i can fish there next weekend .The warm water which gushes out of the power plant attracts bigger fishes to this area

Dear Pranab,
Thank you very much for your kind instructions.
I am not familiar for bottom fishing, but everybody was doing bottom here. In my country, I used to fish with diff. kinds of floats. In that sence all your advices are very helpful for me to adjust my fishing habits here.

First of all, regarding the spot... a little bit confusing.. but I think I went to the right place. I don't remember if it was green but there definately was a light (about 2 mt high) at the end of the pier. when I stand at the end of the pier and look straight out to the sea, I see the fisrt stone (not 2nd... 2nd was what I was on) on my left. When I see right, there is a small and humble village. People are living there. Behind the village, there is a tall power line tower. In between the 1st and 2nd pier there is a small beach (about 20~30 mt long). On my right is the entrance to "Al Khan Lagoon". Many fishermen's boats were passing by thru the entrance. I cast to this direction. Anyway the exact location on Google Earth is N 25 19 45.44 E 55 21 18.22.

Since it takes time for me to get Dubai fising license, I will go there whenever I have time, especially on Saturdays. If anybody in this forum see an asian (far east) guy there on Saturday, It's me. Actually I might look stranger. Many people fishing there asked me if I am from China. No,I'm not from China.. hahaha..

Dear anatafji,

Congratulations on your boat!! I have a question for you. Do you require any special type of license or permission to fish in the musandam area from Dibba if your boat is Dubai registered? If any of you other guys can clarify this I would greatly appreciate it!

Im quiet new to the east coast aswell. However queenfish seem to be on the prowl lately! There were lots being caught in the khorfakan bay by the port! They were in schools so they may have moved as this was the weekend before last!

Keep us updated about finding new spots!

Cheers

Dear kim ,

Two of the best spots during strong winds to go for fishing is under the bridge in sharjah in the lagoon near to altawoon mall and in dubai its the makhtoum bridge frm the back side of the queens house wall . But you must use small hooks and heavier weights during high winds both the places .

Dear kim ,

Let me tell you dont loose ur heart . First let me know if you went to the right place . Tell me if there was a green light at the end of the pier . Secondly when you stand at the end and look straigh out in the sea do u see a second stone at your left . If u see right do u see a small sea beach . Is there a mosque and a small broken mud houses behind that . If the descripion matches where you have been you went to the right spot .

Second thing Yes you have to see the timing before you go there . This area is good before 3/4 hours before high tide . Reason being there are rocks underneath and it runs frm the pier up to 10/20 meters . So you have to use a weight no 2 and use a 13f or 14 ft rod to throw it far were there is sand . If you use smaller rod you wont get the distance . Dont use .20 lines because i would suggest you to for for .30 here as the sea gets rough and you also have to take caer of the sinker you are using here . There is a round bottom sinker use that one here . Reason being the sea bed is soft and it gets stuck in that . And as you try to pull it because of the distance the resistance is more and the line will break . One more thing , you have to yank up the like before u pull . If you dont do that then your line will het stuck in the rocks there . I also used to loose hooks there and used to blame my good friend keyur about it . We used to fight and he used to go in rocks and i wnt to the small beach . But the problem is the beach is very very shallow . So you can only expect half beaks and only smaller variey fishes there nothing more . And to get them you must use very very small hooks . So it depends what you want . The area is rich in marine resources . Initially i used to fish from beach but now i fish from the stones . There is a egyptian guy abdulla who is also newly joined our forum . If you go in week ends you will see him at the end of the rocks trying for mullets . Yes you are correct when the sea is rough its tough to fish from here . From now on i will start again writing the high and low time timings may be that will help people who are new commers to uae to have a grasp on the fish timings . If you need any furthur help you can call me about this area . And this is the same area where i got the big sea bream which keyur took the pic and was posted in this forum .

By the way i forgot to tell you for smaller fishes which moves in sholes in this area near the rocks for example mullets and half beaks you can use a long flat horizontal floating float to catch them near the rocks .

Hi all,
I finally went to sharjah (opp. to mamzar park) this morning. According to Pranab's direction, I went near to the light at the end of he second jetty from Mamzar (where the sea comes into Al Khan Lagoon). I cast my bait toward the entrance of the lagoon and got nothing... It was too windy and the tide was rough. There were many people near me but nobody (as far as I saw) caught any fish.
I lost a lot of hooks and sinkers at the end of the jetty. The bottom is full of rocks I think.
I tried floating but the tide pushed my line back to the edge of the jetty... and lost the float too...

I used both squid and shrimp. My first fishing in Dubai resulted in nothing... How could you guys catch fish there? sinking or floating? where?

To Pranab.
Is that place what you meant? There is also a light at the end of the 1st stone. The first stone is somehow curved and the 2nd stone is straight. In between the 1st and 2nd stone, there is a small beach. I was on the 2nd stone, casting toward a small village where people live.

Dear Ijlal bhai ,

As you know i visit ians forum regularly . I came to see what happned there . I have a request to you . Please dont stop writing . I know you are a passionate fisherman . And i feel bad when i see them get hurt . It has happened in this forum too . Guruji who has a traditional old method of fishing has been hurt the same way here in this forum , which happned now in ians forum . Its nothing new . When five people talk togather on fishing due to high fishermen egos some one or other get hurt . My only request to people are that we should share knowledge like abdul did in his last post rather than talking rubbish and raking up controversy .

Yes some one of us are better in technique than others . It does not matter . We should have open minds to teach others and others should also have open mind to learn it if the technique is better . There is absolutely no harm . But in the process if something does not match we should keep quite . Instead of un necessary war of words . I have so many a time did not agree with you ijlal bhai . But tht is difference of opinion . That has got nothing to do with if he is there i will leave the forum . We should stick togather as a community of simple fishermen . Hope you will consider my request and keep writing like you did about the mussandam area on which i did congratulate on your nice post you made to this forum .

Dear Abdul latif ,

Thanks for your nice post on gt locations and explanatation of the topography where gt roams . I really appreciate these kind of mails which will educate people who are new to fishing . I have personally worked hard to make this forum up and running when there were hardly any posts . I would encourage people should write and share their experience as abdul latif did to enrich every ones fishing knowledge .

Thanks once again abdul for this nice post . Because i also did learn a few things from your post . I never have hooked up a GT as i go very rarely on boat . But i have been watching GT hunting videos on a regular basis with one of my fishing friends and yes i noticed we also came to the same conclusion and would be probably going to khasab side next month to hunt gt .

Hey Kim.

You're lucky to live in Deira where most of the tackle shops are. You need to go near St. George Hotel area where there are plenty of shops. It is opposite Hyatt or the Fish Market on the same line as the Gold centre. One is Marine World and will give you good discounts if you're regular there. I do visit them once a month since it is really difficult to commute from where I live to Deira.

I usually pick up my stuff from Marine World and Baracuda in Abu Dhabi. You can also pick up some good reels / trawling rods from Sun n Sand sports shops and other sport shops in shopping malls.

Cheers

Jess.

To Pranab,
Thanks for your kind direction. I'll move my "lasy" ass up and try to go there this weekend.
By the way, I live in Deira. Is there any fishing shop to buy hooks, lines, etc. near Deira? If somebody knows please tell me where to go.

Anatafji,

As from experience, the best spots for bottom fishing & jigging are usually where there are coral reefs and where there are "drops" (steep crevices, like wadi) If you have a fish finder, such spots will be quite easy to find using the depth sonar.

As for GT spots, GT likes choppy waters and small island formations which have kind of steep banks. The splashing of water against these banks will sort of dilute more oxygen into the water which is highly preffered by GTs. The rocks/small island formations/potrusions are usually used by most predatory fishes for hiding prior to attacking their victims.

p/s congrats on your new boat, maybe "some" of us can also tag along in one of your trips.

Cheers!

Hey Guys,

Recently bought a 36 footer that i have moored in Dibba and was wondering if anyone would be so kind to provide me with GPS coordinates for good bottom fishing spots in Musandam & the Dibba / Khorfakkan area.

Trolling locations would also be highly appreciated. Really looking forward to popping my first GT!

Thanks,

Ahmad

Thanks for your kind concern. I had also read about the forecast. Will only venture out to sea if the weather is permitting otherwise will look at the option of doing shore fishing.

Hi Pranab,
Congrats ! Nice catch and photo too.

Hi Bartosz & Ijlal,

Thanks for your weather warning.

This is what I read too…….for your reference...

“UAE to Face Bad Weather Conditions Once Again
Abu Dhabi, Feb. 20:The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology has warned sailors and fishermen to avoid going to sea during the next four days due to strong winds.
"Due to a strong north-westerly flow associated with cooler air mass coming towards the UAE starting from Wednesday morning and strengthening on Thursday and Friday to be 30 to 35 knots over the deep sea gusting 40 knots at times, which leads to rough seas with wave height from 10 to 14 feet offshore," a statement by the NCMS said today.
According to the statement, the wind will be from 16 to 22 knots over land, with rising sand or blowing dust expected to reduce the visibility over different parts of the country especially further inland, and with a significant drop of air temperature throughout the period mentioned above.
"Thus, the National Center of Meteorology and Seismology is strongly advising sailors and fishermen not to sale and fish throughout the next four days at least. In addition, precaution must be taken on highways, as well as, for people who have allergy and asthma should be indoor during this period especially children." The bad weather condition will gradually improve from Saturday, according to NCMS's forecasts. “

Please be cautious.

Regards,

Ronald

Salaam Abdul Latif,

Welcome to the forum. Please be advised the weather sites are pridicting the wind to blow as much as 42 km/h during the next 48 hrs. It is expected to go down to 21 km/h on Friday, so take care before planning an outing as the sea is going to be quite a bit rough.

Thanks,
Ijlal

One of the wierdest posts I've ever read in one of the forums:

hey every body!!

I am looking for shore fishing spots where i can also take my dog, are there any good spots out past jebel ali, how deep does the water need to be before I can find fish?

thanks for your help

.........any help anybody????
First the dog problem....why does he want to take the dog fishing, does the dog fish......is it a dog or a *itch.......

Then the water problem....how deep.....The best thing would be to jump into the water (sea....not your swimming pool, or mine)....walk till you can't see the shore....that's the best place to fish.....

Cheers

Jess....

Hi Si Kim
Fishing spots in the UAE:

Dubai Marina: Go to the end of the marina near the DEWA outlet. Breakwaters there where I fish for barracudas, hamour, trevallys, sheris and ballyhoo. The best times are early mornings and after 5 pm. Careful about the rocks when baitcasting. I prefer mid sinking rapalas, lures. I have got MJs at the Marina......

Jumeirah: You can fish from almost any jetty on the Jumeirah Stretch. Most of the jettys have rocks all over, but again, good for lure fishing. Have hooked good sized queen fish using flies. Open Beach (old Russian Beach) at Jumeirah One has some good barracudas almost all year round at dawn and dusk. There are many guys from this forum who frequent this place.

Al Seef / Creek: You can fish right from the entrance of the creek (good for kingfish / groupers) using live bait – ballyhoo. Al Seef (Opp British Consulate) has good catfish and smaller variety of breams, sheri, safi, and an assorted lot. You can also fish from under the garhoud bridge (if you find some place) and well inside the creek park. You need a licence to fish in this area as the Municipality guys keep checking quite often.

On the Hamriya side you can fish from almost all the corniche walkways and small break waters right up to Mamzar.

Fishing on the Mamzar beach on the Dubai side is prohibited. However you can fish from the cemented, fenced area closer to the Mamzar Park, You get a variety of fish here especially of the smaller kind. Drive along the beach and to the Sharjah side, you can find quite a few fishing spots there . You need to drive in the morning during weekends and see guys fishing there. This is the easiest way to find the place.

You can also fish along the coast of Ajman, Um Al Quain, and Ras Al Khaimah where ever there are jetties and entry is not restricted.
One good thing will be to try surfcasting from these beaches which I used to do and especially at night, you can hook big breams, sheris, rays, catfish etc.

One nice place to fish is the Musandam coast. You need to drive to Dibba from here and then into the fishing town of Mina. You can charter boats from there and go to areas like Lima and where there are wrecks. Fish include bonita, kings, tuna, hamour, sheri, breams, snappers, trigger fish, marlin / sailfish. Even if fishing is not good, you will enjoy the trip.

You can also fish off the coast off Jebel Ali and it is not as it used to be. Fishing closer to the shore can sometimes yield a good catch with mid floating lure, further inside good catch with jigging. When the sea is calm you will enjoy trolling with the skyline in view. If you have a full day to spare, go about 30 miles or more before it is 9 am and you’ll have a good catch.

…………….and Harper, I’m in your forum tooooooooooo LoL……………..and you can’t take the crap of me….. coz I’m a jerk……. You’ve got a fly in your place coz.. your place smells. The only flies I have in my house are the ones on my pants and the ones I use at the end of my lines……

Cheers.

Si Kim...

Why the hell don't you start browsing all the pages of this forum. There is a helluva information including the spots you are looking for.....
Alternatively, one fine morning, move your ass out of bed bit early and head on to the Mamzar area where you can find fellow fisherfolk faithfully sticking out their rods by the stones...........

Wake up man....

Pranab....
Had a small fight with my girlfriend and then straight headed to the computer and read your explanation over and over again.....and rolled laughing........
I'll do this everytime I need to laugh a bit.
Good one man....

Cheers

Jess.

Dear Pranab,
I don't think that u guys are too selfish to be reluctant to share good spots with new comers. But nobody, except those who know the area, can understand if you say "sharjah side behind mamzar..." And second rock? What the hell does the ROCK or STONE mean? There would be thousands of rocks and stones at any waterfronts in the world...

Can u pinpoit the spot on following map?

Hi Pranab,
Thank u for the information on sharjah spots.
But could u please pinpoint the spots more in detail?
I am new here in dubai and want to know how to get to those sharjah spots from Dubai by car.

And what do you mean "stone" in "Opposite of mamzar park 1st stone and secondstone"?
Do you mean jetty?

Just came back from another fishing trip at the coast of DXB. We were about 13kms directly opposite to the Burj Dubai.

There were LOTS of queen fish on their feeding frenzies for about 30 minutes. Caught 02 of them weighing about 3kgs each while 04 others managed to slip away. The most effective lure was the Yozuri (sinking) sardine. One even got away with one of the lure due the snap lock gave way.

Other fishes caught were sultan ibrahim and sheris.

Out of six, only two of us were using fishing rods which caught the queen fish. They sure gave very strong fights!

Hi all ,

Just to add to the controversy to braid lines . After investigating all the remarks i come to the conclusion that if any one ties the brain to his own balls and give a medium jerk the balls sure to come off , but definately not the braid . So thats the end of the story and by the way fishing has got noting to do will balls this is just an example how strong is braid .

Best regards

pranab
