Hi Abdul,

If Adam does not go for the reel, please le tme know as I am too interested in the same.

One question, does the rod reel holder differ from rod to rod. or else they are standrad in size. If standard in size then i would definitely be interested in the reel if Adam opts out.

Bro Adam,

Nothing like that.......havent been touching "her" for the past 45..........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....................................... .......................minutes....he..he..he..

Sorry for not replying to your posting bro as I had no previous experience with any multiplier....prior to the Abu Garcia T-Pro 5600 C.....and currently lovin' it!

I refrain from making any comments on things which I haven't experienced myself. My "scientist" way of thinking says.... ONLY trust something which you had tested/proven/experienced yurself. This is the main reason why I had always been talking about the gears which either am curently having or had used.

As for the 2nd hand spinning reel, I got one which I want to sell off. Daiwa OpusBull 6500 with 02aluminium spools fully spooled with 300 yds of Spiderwire Braid 50lbs and Tuf Line XP braid 50lbs. Rated at max drag of 30lbs. Will be good for trolling, jigging and bottom fishing due to the low gear ratio of 4.6:1. Got it for about AED500 (reel + spools only) and looking forward to sell it off at AED350.

Cheers!

P/S Will only be back from Jeddah after 12May....on duty.

As you know that I am a novice in fishing, however, if you have any reels up for sale do let me know.

I am looking for a reel that could be used for spinning & casting and I use a 20-25 lb line. I know nothing more then that.

thanks

IMHO,

Most of the reels here are overpriced, unless you managed to get about 15-20% discounts.

What size spinners are you after?

If you interested in Shimano or Daiwa spinners, will check them out for you in Brunei.....but will only be back there sometime in Jul or Aug.

Got the Sahara 4000 for Pranab for only AED300.

Amir, As for the shakephere's rod, just ensure that you get the "real stuff" as there are plenty of duplicates in the market. The only genuine ones I had seen so far are the ones available in Mr. Abas's shop Baraccuda, just at the abra (on Bani Yas road).

Amir,

My 2cents......

Spinning reels are much more versatile than a conventional one. Spinners can be used for casting as done in popping. Infact bigger sized conventional reels are almost uncastable due to "bird-nesting".

The main advantages of conventional reels are their huge line capacity and more stable/durable drag system.

A lot of anglers tend to prefer using conventional reels for jigging due to easier drag setting (through the use of star and/or "throttle" drag knobs and the huge line capacity.

Spinners do have more mechanicals which means greater probability of having things going wrong thus comparatively less robust IF NOT HANDLED PROPERLY. If dropped, spinners are likely to have the following damages; stem bent/breakage, bail arm/wire breakage, main shaft bent etc.

Conventional reels are however having inherent weakness due to the fact that the spool is within the frame which will usually collect (highly corrosive) sea water which might seep through the seals into the internal mechanisms whereas the spool on a spinner is outside the main gearing assembly.

Cheers!

Brother Abdul

Good to hear that you are giving the Stella twins some well deserved rest...please let them settle into life here in UAE especially with the heat which they'll not be used to coming from another conutry....lol...he he he

I was given some fishing gear from my bro back in UK last time i was there and i wanted to write down the details on here to get some feed back from you or the other forum members to see what they think, here goes:

1st rod: Abu Garcia "suveran" 2 piece boat rod
Reel: Abu Garcia "Ambassadeur BG 7000HS"

2nd rod: Shimano "Exage S.T.C 330H - 6 piece
Reel: Shakespear "Atlantis 2904-300"

I know that it's all about the fisherman and not the tackle that catches the fish but as i'm new to this type of fishing, would appreciate hearing back from you all as to what this gear is good for. Having never used multipliers before, anyone have any tips on how to use as they are quite scary looking, they would of course be willing to meet up at some point with the Stella twins to discuss there new found homes in UAE....lol...hehe he

Also, if anyone has a nice 2nd hand spinning reel they are looking to sell, i am interested in buying one as unfortunately the reel my dad bought for me does not fit any of these rods...the butt on the reels i have are to chunky and wide to slot into the reel holders??!!

Cheers all for your feed back.

Adam,

Both Ms. Stellas were so tired of getting all the carressing thus were staying back at homes.

BTW, my Mrs. is reimbursing me for the amount I had paid for the Stella......as a gift from her....YAHOOOOOOOOOO!

Just how much luckier can I be???????

She (Ms. Stella) is now fully spooled with 86lbs Titanium braid from Rapala.....all set for Mussandam!

Cheers!

Went out boat fishing yesterday with Kim, Ashley, Jamil and Mohammed.

We started moving from the Diving Village @about 0630hrs. Did some trolling on the way without any result. Main format was bottoming and me playing around with my light casting tackle setup (pe2 rod, 30lbs braid, Abu Garcia Ambasaduer T-Pro 5600C casting reel)

Sea was a bit choppy and the tide was coming in with high tide at about 0930hrs.

Catches - Good size sheris, sultan ibrahim, hamours and a couple of baracudas and a queen fish. Overall not so good with total count of around 20-25.

Tried jigging but almost no result except for one hit which was a non hook-up.

True enough, as always advised by "Fishpals", playing with light setup is fun especially when you see the rod bending and the reel screeming upon hook-ups.

Cheers!

p/s no pics due not so exciting.

hi Pranab...thanks for the ferrari reel bro and that mitchel rod you have is a frikkin boomerbus...that bugger has more muscle that Sly Stalone. The bloody tackel was kinda whistling away to about 100 meters with just 35 gms weight. didnt even have to really chuck. The rod seemed to do it all. Its the best I've handled so far for shore casting. I need to get hold of one for myself soon. Will call u bout it by monday.

fISRT ... Sorry Kim..woulda loved to come. But I didnt log onto the forum for the last 4 days 'till now. Jeez. I'm sure you guys woulda had a REEL good time. Sat is a holiday, but eitherways, I was caught in the editing room coz we had an urgent job to go and I wouldnt have made it. I'm sure you guys had a nice time.

Adammmm Mate .... puddy tat puddy tat where have ya beeeeeeen? I've been to London to visit the qeen..puddy tat puddy tat what did you there? I caught a big TROUT and exchanged it for a hare!!
teeheehee. How are you buddy... keep in touch mate. Lifes too short and fish live even shorter (wink wink)
Amir...I was satisfied catching that queen fish at Jum..gave it to Aji to marinade along wid the sheri Abdul caught. Rest o the Fri was spent cookin the crabs I caught during the week. God..I'm up to my colon in crabs. If I dont eat another crab for a month i wouldnt mind.

Tomorrow I gona meet Abdul for the rod he bought me from Brunei and maybe I'll do a stint at the mak bridge day after. Got a nic Cat bout 2 weeks ago - bout 3 kilos. But its all in the timing.

Im not one o those high tech anglers who cathes 8 kilo barraks with 8 lbs line like one professor out here... but I do my bit to tap the fishing community and ensure they end up into my cooking pot before they die a natural death. HAHAHAAH.

Why dont we all knock out heads together and arrange a trip to Fuj for some GT? What say you guys? Any takers.

Syed Ijlal...how are you mate? hows the leg coming along. Even on crutches I believe you'd be a formidable threat to the biggest fish in town. Gimme a shout anytime.

Anyways ...like all good thing must come to an end...so must my tirade on this site.
Ciao and bye for niao...meao

Hi Guys,

Dylan, Abdul, nice meeting you Abdul,Dylan. After you guys leaft we did manage small sherry's from Jumeira which were released.

However, in the evening me & Ali went to Makhtoum bridge. There again we managed small fishes, with the exception of one biggy (Naqroor) Ali caught.

Will try to post the picture in a day or two.

Here's a tube for cudas. it's so simple that it can be made at home.
all you need is the following:
1- surgical tubbing ( u can chose ur color, best is pink).
2- steel cables
3- trible hooks
4- 1oz weight.
Look at the picture and assemble like. keep the lead at the end of the lure and fish it by casting and retrieving it fast ..ripping through the water. this lure will look like niddle fish trying to escape.
Good Luck.

Amir,

From past experiences, of all the lures which had given me the most number of hits from Baraccudas are the Yo-Zuri F crystal minnow deep divers size 11 either with greenish or bluish colour. These are however, the diving type which are usually used for trolling and open sea casting.

I can basically conclude that the most effective colours for the clear waters in these part of the world are greenish and bluish whereas in murky waters like in Brunei the stronger colours e.g red, orange, purple or any other bright colours will be more effective.

Cheers!

Kim,

As the saying goes "When we go down, we go down together!"...he..he..he.. We are both intoxicated by the beauty of these twin.

Sent him SMS, still yet to get a reply. Will try to call him and will advise you if the UNUSED aka "NEW IN BOX" 10000 Stella is still available.

Got someone who will be travelling back to Brunei in 2days time (01May) and coming back on
10May. If the ever so beautiful and seductive Stella is still available, will ask him to pick it up. BTW its about USD700max(depending on the prevailing rate of exchange).

Cheers!

Chua - any news from Mr Abbas for the best possible price for the 20000 Stella?

Report on 25/04/08 offshore fishing trip from Sharjah.

It was Ashley's family fishing trip that I joined. Many thanks not only to Ashley but also to Abdul and Chua..
Captain Ali looks very experienced and is well equipped. (At least he had a gaff on board. he..he..)
Wherever he stops the boat, we got immediate bites. Combos and even tripples..
We caught a lot of baracudas, sheri, sultan Ibrahim, cat fish, etc.
The biggest baracuda was hooked up by Ashley's cousin(?) who seems almost a novice in fishing and landed by Ashley.
It was really huge.. more than 4ft long with dog-like teeth. Normal baracudas caught were 2~2.5ft long.
Sheris were big, too. Each of the member caught at least one or two really big sheri. (about 3~4kg)

It was afternoon trip, scheduled 15:00 ~ 20:30, actual 16:00 ~ 20:30. The sea was quite choppy and the boat kept on rolling.
Mainly bottom fishing.. The depth was about 20~30mt and jigging didn't produce any good results.
I lost a 100g jig. Before the jig hit the seabed, some huge baracuda took it and cut my shock leader.
Since the veil was opened and the jig was sinking toward the bottom, I couldn't feel the hit.
Baracudas were everywhere. Many times I reeled up sheri and sultan ibrahim's heads only.

No photos for me coz I didn't bring my camera. But Ashley's family had one. And they took some photos for themselves.

Cheers,
Sikim

Hi Abdul,

My line did not snap even once by a fish which bit and took away my line, though the fish ran in to the rocks a few times and I had to break the line off.

Cant remember, but I think the line i use is a 20 lb Yazuri Hybrid line on a 270 cm rod with a chinese make reel.

However, next time i intend to use a Daiwa casting rod (300cm) and a banax st 4000 reel that I bought when I initially started fishing.

We used Shrimps as a bait, however, Pranab also got some Sardine. I have never tried anything else then shrimps.

Amir,

No wonder last Friday, I kept on being woken up by "ringing" sounds!!!!!!! he..he..he.. JUST kidding! Now....lets see whose tummy is bigger...mine or yours! he..he..he..

Anyway, even I don't have any long casting rods. The longest rods I have are only 6feet. However, the lost battles might had been due to the lines failures (cut/spliced by the sharp rocks) as the lines Pranab uses are in the range of 10-20lbs mono........just may be.

If that is the case, using braided PE3-4 coupled with a nylon coated steel leader rated 30lbs should be able to do the job...INSYA'ALLAH!

What bait(bate...as Pranab always say) did you guys use?

Hi Abdul,

Definitely me and Ali are on for the coming week end. Pranab can contribute more on the gear required as me & Ali are just bottom fishers. However, Pranab tried Jigging and Spinning as well.

As me & Ali have only the basic gear for shore fishing and are still learning the trick, therefore I did loose out on a few big ones as they ran off in to the rocks. Additionally as advised by Pranab , I tired putting the rod on my tummy but due to my big fat belly the rod kept running down my shorts and the bells kept ringing.

Probably would have to use a belt but for such small fishes it would be silly of me to be using the belt.

hope to see you on friday. Pranab your comments on the week end.

Hi Amir/Pranab,

Really regret to having bail out at the very last minute. Any inconveniences caused are highly regretted!

Sad to hear about the frustrations you guys had but maybe....like what you said...it was all due to the lack of preparations.

Shall we plan for one this coming weekend/Friday. Insya'allah I should be able to join. How (in your opinion) can we be more better prepared? lures/bait, equpipments(reels/rods/lines/float/sinker/steel leader??????)

IF we are planning to go this coming Friday, maybe we should start on planning and making sure we got the right "tools for the job"

Cheers!

Pranab, I think we were not well preprared for that day. In the end, this was the first time in my small fishing history that I fell short of the required bait and accessories.

Hope to do better next time we are there.

Hi abdul ,

I have been reading about torsa . Could you give me moh cell no once again as i am unable to understand this cam thing in this reel . They mention its also same system in trinidad which moh has. Please go through the writeup and help me pls . Not only abdul any one else who knows this topic can come forward and give the inputs about the advantage of this cam thing.

Castability
Once again, Shimano set out to change another aspect of the reputation of lever drags:
Poor Castability.Due to how lever drags are constructed, they are
inherently poor casters. The drag washers, drag plates, cooling shields and bearings are included
in the spool assembly. This increases the overall weight of the spool.A heavy spool is bad for castability because it takes much more energy to get the spool to
begin to spin. This is called startup inertia. Why is this bad? Once the spool begins to spin, the resistance drops rapidly. So there is a very inconsistent spool speed and an excellent chance for backlash. As a result of the typical lever drag design, the lob cast evolved. This casting style was
pioneered by the Long Range fishermen out of San Diego to cast large baits to feeding Yellowfin. However, for most other applications, anglers were forced to use Star Drag reels when
they needed to cast small baits, due to their excellent castability. With Torsa™, the tables
are turned. First, because of meticulous machining of the Cold Forged Aluminum spool, the overall weight of the spool was reduced to lower the startup inertia. At the same time, most of the mass is
distributed outward. This results in the spool spinning longer, just like a bicycle wheel, where the tire and rim contain most of the wheel’s mass. Secondly, Shimano added the Variable Brake System (VBS®) which, since 1992, has proven
itself time and time again in their freshwater baitcasting reels, such as the Calcutta®,
Chronarch® and Curado®, to help anglers with castability. VBS uses centrifugal force to slow down the spool at the beginning of the cast,
then reduces the braking force as the spool slows. This gives a much more consistent spool speed, which translates into a more
manageable cast. And lastly, the handle side of the spool is taller
than the non-handle side. This extended spool lip gives the angler a very consistent surface to thumb during the cast. It has shown to
be valuable in testing, as it provides more manageability than thumbing the inconsistent surface of the line on the spool. Rapid Fire™ Quick Change
Drag Cam System
The amount of drag that is increased or decreased when the drag lever is moved can be easily described as the “drag curve.” Most drag curves throughout the fishing reel
industry are very similar: a gradual increase in drag pressure from the freespool position to the full position.
While a standard curve is excellent for many mainstream fisheries, the shape of the curve is not adjustable (see sidebar “Understanding
Lever Drags”). Therefore, in order to “fish outside of the box,” such as with light lines or to target specific fish, anglers were forced to
evolve their techniques and style around the tackle available to them.
No longer. With the new Rapid Fire Quick Change Drag Cam System found exclusively on Torsa™, this
versatile reel can change to cater to specific techniques. By simply putting the reel into freespool and backing off the preset knob, the angler removes the drag cam from the reel.
Then, by inserting one of 8 available Rapid Fire drag cams, you completely change how the reel is set up to fish within a matter of seconds. No tools required, and no screws to fall onto the deck of the boat. On the next several pages, you will see these 8
different drag curves and the specific fisheries they are applicable to. From light line world record seekers, to braided line fanatics looking to tackle huge fish on small tackle, to the
specific needs of chunk fishermen in the Northeast, Torsa can do it all.
Torsa™ comes equipped with our L.R.S. (Long Range Special) Rapid Fire Drag Cam, which
was made popular by reels in our Tiagra® line. There are 7 other cams available depending upon your target fisheries.

By the way this reel claims good castability how far can they caste any one used this reel or does any one know the drag for this reel in lbs or kgs

Hello kim ,

Sorry mate i saw your post late . I was in fact caling people who wanted to join like abdul and dyln both of whom dropped later .Yes we went to the same spot along with amir and ali . Ali is a new member of the forum and he is an expert deep sea fisherman . But he wanted to see some shore action . I chose this spot particularly because for the past three days i was visiting this sport and caught a lot of fish and released there . But i was facing a kind of problem there . The moment it was a big hamour or a big sheri i was loosing the battle every time .

I thought the grey hound which i was using was with a soft tip and did not have the back bone to haul up the fish . I did a lot of research about the cost line and spoke to my diver friends who does scuba at this spot . As per them the stones have a steep drop when it goes out in the sea and extrends about 10-15 meters from where we throw our lines . Two days i was frustrated and tried different technique of not loosing the fish in the rocks after i hooked it up .

To narrow the angle of inclination i have even ran up to higher rocks but i failed even then . So friday i went with my blue michelle rod which is stiffer . I had an impression i wont loose the big ones .

But this is what happned . Min 5 times when i used even steel leader everything was cut away but something big . I was too much dejected . I thought of not writing this post . But then this is reality what happned over there . I was happy for amir who picked up lot of sherries and even a barracuda . And also for ali who also improved this throws and was doing pretty well with small sherri . But for me to loose out so many times was really frustrating . My last try was with steel leader with hook attachment even i mean the whole thing was steel . But even that was snapped off . I was so desperate last time i threw a japanese metal jig which i saved for future mussandam trip . But that too gone . I just dont have any words to say .

May be at times there are days when you cant win what ever you do . My only gain was the jokes with amir and ali . I was so frustrated this day ultimately at the end when i hooked up a tiny sherri i took it home he he . I guess we should go well prepared there next time .

By the way to add salt to my injury i saw an arab guy pick up a huge hamour from this spot infront of my eyes but this happned day before evening time which is exellent feeding time for this area .

Hi, Dylan.
You suspicious pal... he he.. I arranged the same boat charter that we had with you and abdul. Naturally the boat frame should be the same. My hat, shorts and T shirt that I am wearing are the same because I usually wear those when I fish. Those are kinda my "fishing wears".
Just see the following pictures of my colleagues who accompanied me on that day. And take your distrust away.

Sorry Kim...but your pictures seem a wee bit ENGINEERED. I have pictures of you when we went offshore in dubai along with Abdul in my files...and your new pictures are a bit fishy.

I compared your new pictures with the trevaly etc with the pictures I have of you a month ago when you came with us and these are my observations

Your T shirt is the same
The boat railing is the exact same
The hat you are wearing is the same
The shorts youre wearing are the same
The rod youre holding is the same
The length at which your hat's knot is tied to your chin is the same

Everything about your so claimed NEW pictures are the exact same as the pictures I have of you on your trip with us about a month ago - EXCEPT it looks like some adobe or graphic expert has cut, copied and pasted the fish onto the slides. Come on mate, Give it a break.

Hi kim ,

www.dubaicoast.ae is the prime source .But i do take from about 7 websites area wise to compile it . But i would advice you to buy a timex watch avail able in any major timex outlet which gives tide timings . Then you dont have to go to the website regularly . You just have it on your wrist . Its also very resonable . I guess around AED 600. Its also a 200 meters diving watch . So its useful for scuba and snorkling purposes . Most of my diver and spear fishing friends has got this thing .

Hi guys ,

I wrote a report on fishing around khasab for fish emirates . I thought i post it here if in any case any one goes to fish in this area this weekend .
Hi ziyad ,

I have fished around this area . Fishing is very good in this area . Specially the channel with goes frm the port towards the telegraph islands .

Some of the good spots are

khol as shams

fjord bai khasab

three dolphins

telegraph island

sibi island

All can be reached by boat . Khasab tours and travel is the major operator there also hormuz tours are there . Beside them if you want real expert its ocean active contact nick . The kind of fish that you can expect here are as follows Trevally, Great Barracuda, Orange Spot Trevally, Big Eye Trevally, Kingfish, Queenfish, Yellowtail Barracuda, Emperor, Grouper, Cobia and Tuna.

Marine line is excellent and this weekend with mercury dipping and sea calm i think you can except excellent fishing in this area . I dont have exact fishing forecast of this area but i can give you a forecast of the omani waters which will me close to khasab area .

And if you are going out side of the khasab strait towards kumzar then please take heavy tackle and jigging is particularly very good in this area with very deep water in the indian ocean . Please take at least 100 lb test line if you are getting out of the channel . One warning please make sure dont hook up dolphins as these are protected by omani fishing law and is a source of tourist in this area . To be sure please check with the authorities i mean you can do so by contacting oman embassy in bar dubai or by writing to omani fishing website for more details .
