YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHRRRGG..... [dylan yelling out blood curdling murderous war cry and charging like pit bull towards his intended target with harpoon gun ...as his poor unsuspecting prey sits calmly on the deck of boat casting his cherished Stella, while sipping lemon tea... the setting sun casting an ethereal radiance bathing the sea with a warm golden glow...and the rays reflecting magical highlights off the anglers well groomed hair and the metal body of the Stella, the evening breeze softly caressing the happy plump face of the angler...Its a picture of contentment...life feels soo gooood. So serence. Such peace] AND THEN SUDDENLY.... KCCCHHHUUUNNNNKKKKK - the spear burries into the back of its target. All peace is shattered and horror blights the sublime beauty of the moment as the angler topples over into the briney and is swallowed up into the murky depths of the ocean. And pandemonium descends.... Tsk Tsk..Oh what a terrible end. Hmmmmmmm....one particular angler here (i shall not say who) should take this reverie of mine seriously the next time he catches his hammours & Sharks and doesnt give me my UNfair share... |

Very Happy for you Abdul and Amir. Abdul: Woulda been much happiers for "you" if one of those had landed in my cooking pot I woulda sung your praises on this forum. But then (sigh)the world is so selfish . Will be going to Sun n Sand this evening to pick up the braid and a harpoon gun. Will call u thn. Later to Picnico to check out the kayaks they have. Amir, buddy, I got few Nagroors below the Mak bridge bout 10+ days ago. Nagroors are fish of the season thereabouts - and very tasty. But i'm getting a l'il tired of the bridge. Too many irritants - entire families (man, woman, kids, brothers, sisters-in-law, maid...whole jingbang)running around, tripping over rods, messing with gear, even casting lines right at my shoulder and ENTANGLING MY LINE!!!...and u cant say a thing when its a lady??? Just smile,smile,smile..till your jaws ache. Where exactly in the park dya guys cast from? Do lemm know. I've been mostlyindoors due to the humidity though but I'm planning to try the spot between Maktoum and Floating bridge soon. |

Went fishing with 06 fellow countrymen in Abu Dhabi from Midnight till Friday morning at about 0900hrs. The sea was VERY VERY choppy with most of us getting seasick!!!!! This was the first time I ever had it in my whole life. However I didn't throw up Prior to the sunrise, ALMOST no bites!!!!! BUT as soon as the sun rises, the hook-ups were almost continuous! List of catches were as follows; 02 decent sized hamours, 02small ones + 01 red hamour. 04 small sharks, 02 released so that they can come back when they are bigger!!!!! 01 Golden trevalley estimated at 2.5kgs. 02 silver snappers estimated at 1kg each Few sheries Few sheries look-alike but with golden colour and a dark spot towards the tail....don't know the name but quite tasty. Did some trolling on the way back WITHOUT any result! Ciao! |

Hi guys, I and Ali went to Creek park yesterday. We managed to catch around 3 kgs of fishes, 4 in total, 2 released back and 2 taken. All of them were nagroors. One was huge must be more then a KG. Though the biggest one was caught by a hand line, the remaining through line and rod. A barracuda allmost landed on Ali. We were shocked to see the baracuda about 2 feet, and that to in Creek park. Tried spinning for the barracuda but to no avail. Very very good day at fishing. regards Amir |

Hi Dylan, You are right, I have studied the specs of the inflattables in detail through the net. The reason for me to actually see one in person is that there are two kinds of boat in which the motors could be positioned. One is the one in which the motor is hanged through two handles whereas the other one is which has a plastic back on which you could clamp the motor. I would prefer the latter as the plastic back gives you the chance to actual screw a decent rod holder on to it. However, I am still evaluating the options. Regarding the seplling mistakes, I dont get in to such petty issues. I know your intention are clean, so no problems with that. Regards Amir |

Anyone wanna exchange a good-as-new Epson OHP (Over Head Projector)for fishing gear? Lemme know. Its been used by me personally for bout a year. Brand: EPSON, Model: EMP-SL1 Todays Cost on the Net: US$489 (which is far below what I paid for it) You could check the Net for specs and features. It's robust and has one of the best performance records in its class. I wanna sell it ONLY coz I wanna top-up my fishing gear and coz I've repalced it with the Epson with a Sony OHP. Its available with carrying case and manuals and all standard accessories. If interested post me a message on this forum detailing what gear you have to offer. G'night. Amir, excuse the typo/spelling mistakes in my post to you regds inflatable. But know that I just got your best interests in mind. |

Hi aMIR...you dont need to see an inflatible or a rigid hull Kayak and paddle it to guage its performace! These boats are SOLD ON SPECIFICATIONS. Thats the general trend with most serious buyers and sellers of such sea faring devices world wide. And deciding to insatall an outboard motor on a kayak without actually knowing the specs and engineering dynamics is too premature - its like deciding to fix an engine -without knowing what chassis your gonna end up with..it could be a shopping cart, a bycycle, motorcycle or car chassis...Wheresas you COULD technically fix an engine to all, the dynamics of the process would be dratically diverse. Cheers and good luck. |

Hi Dylan, I spoke to Atef about the inflattable. He advised that he has sold off the 10 peices he had. Additionally, he would probably send for another batch some time ending this month. As i am interested in one, so i requested him if I could see the one he has so that before getting one Iam able to judge the performance as I would eventually put a small motor on it. rgds Amir |

Are you serious bout them or you just shooting blanks? and are basically just a waste of my time. Post your reply or I'm not gonna bother bout the subject deeming it just a lota of flim-flam from you and consider the matter closed. Bye |

Ijlal, You're right about changing the balance of the lure, but some of the fresh water lure are great for saltwater too. Here's a trick I learned from an old salt. Take a CD 14 and replace the lip with a CD 18 lip. and look at the wonders.. Thanks rami |

Thanks to Ijlal and Rami on your inputs regds the lure..excellent info to store into my "notes" to write the "fishing for dummies" book I plan to write so I can retire a millionaire. Actually all these seemingly miniscule ideas and thoughts and opinions are so critical when you take it to the next level. No wonder the saying "dont mistake the forest for the trees" and neither should you "mistake the trees for the forest" holds so much water. Every tiny bit of info counts when one has an open mind as is willing to learn and assimilate. Thank u guys once again. And ATEFFFFFFF...what bout your inflatables mate? Or has somone punctured em and rendered em unsaleable? Tell us quickly. Time is running short as I wait in the parking lot with just ONE dhiram worth of ticket time..... |

Rami, I would like to add that in all probability, changing hooks to the heavier saltwater grade would disbalance the lure, light as it is. My argument is why use a freshwater lure in saltwater at all when there are so many wonderful lures available for salt use. Just my 0.02... Thanks, Ijlal |

And Atef, mate you gotta get a lot mre serious bout your inflatable..it may not need a licence but when youre venturing out into the sea the specks have got be spot on acccurate. Doesent bothe me buddy..I'm a strong swimmer...I stood No 18 among 245 competents for the 1 mile swimming chalenge --starting from Jum Beach Hotel ..arund teh Burj Al Arab and back...But I always make sure that who ever comes with me, whether hunting, fishing or driving or whatever, is SAFE AND SECURE in my care and will get back to his/her home safely inshallah. This kick tail lure is designed for large Mouth Bass fishing, Using this lure is saltwater would not be idle due to the fact that this lure is light on weight and would not cast far from shore. It's designed to be used with 6.6 to 7ft rods. and use in relatively shallow water. To use this lure in saltwater you have adjust the following: 1- Replace the front split ring with a heavy duty one. 2- Same as split ring to attach the hooks 3- change the hooks to saltwater grade. This lure is used in saltwater to catch Red and trout mainly in the flats and the mangroves trees areas. Also, Strike King lure company got a other mega lure like that that can be used in saltwater with the above alterations. I am not sure where you would find them in UAE. Hope this helps. Rami |

Amir, As far as trolling set-up is concerned, (my personal opinion) just get one of the overheads from OKUMA from here itself and then just get one trolling rod from there....or even from here itself as UNLESS you are planning to get a comparatively short or 02piece (butt jointed) rod, carrying it will be quite troublesome...unless you have one of those rod-cases (for checking-in) like me!!!!!. Otherwise the rod(s) might arrive in bad conditions. Additionally, the prices offered by Sun & Sands nowadays are quite good also. You get what I mean...do you??? As I work in the airline industry, I am fully aware how "BLOODY" careful those baggage handlers are!!!!!!! Please let me know if you want to borrow any of my rod cases.....for a price...he..he..he.. JUST KIDDING bro!!!!!!! Cheers! |

Atef, How far in to the sea do you take the inflattable. I intend to get one but iam unsure about the use. Can it be used in the sea or it can be used only around shallow water. Does the inflattable come along with (the sticks to move the boat) I have forgotten what it is called in English. (In Urdu & Hindi) its called Chapppuu. Where can i see one of these. Amir, Fishing gears prices in Malaysia varies quite alot depending upon their countries of manufacture. Locally manufactured gears e.g reels & rods of Shimano and Daiwa are comparatively cheaper there BUT if of other countries e.g Japan, Thailand, Taiwan or China are slightly dearer. The Daiwa Saltigas or the Shimano Stellas are cheaper by a few hundreds (dirhams) in Brunei than there. Few of the serious anglers from there are actually buying these high-end imported gears from Brunei. The Stellas there are as expensive as here!!!!! The Okuma V-system is cheaper here. Even the Daiwa BG series. Malaysia manufactured lots of good quality rods with components (SiC guides and reel seats) from Fuji or Pacific bay and they are being made available at dirt cheap prices compared to Brunei or here. The various good quality rods which are (some of them) made in Malaysia are Eupro, Sea Hawk, Lemax, Ajiking, G Loomis, Xzoga, Shimano, Daiwa etc. DO check it out whenever you are in Malaysia as there are lots of tackle shops. Ciao! |

I got something similar from Rapala, The X-Rap Jointed shad as per the link below. http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=x-rap_jointed _shad&freshorsalt=Fresh Never got to test it in sea water (yet) thus can't comment on it's effectiveness. Additionally haven't been doing any fresh-water fishing either. Ciao! |

Abdul, Ijlal, Ashley, Adam..mates check this site out just in case you havent done so already...Kick Tail lures. Veey interesting. The mechanics are very compelling and guess worth investing in...Its a lure that is ostensibly the realest thing to live/living bait fish and swims with its tail. If anyone knows if theyre available in the UAE pls do let me know where. http://www.ngcsports.com/kick_tail_xl5.cfm?ccode=CHNAWLLKT. I know you're being sarcastic about in comment but others might not see it that way. I am not trying to police the forum. But let's just stick to the subject. There's different channels to show your gratitude and appreciation. Also, you're providing the wrong impression about how you received a birthday gift. Thanks Rami |

Dear Amir, I agree with Abdul and Bart on their feedback regarding lure selection for the fish you asked about. As Bart says, there are always a lot of different factors that govern choice of lures. One very important factor is what depth of water you are fishing in at a certain point. If you are in comparatively shallow water, say around 30 to 40 feet deep, and you have four rods out, it would help to put two deep-diving lures such as Storm Deep Thunder, Rapala X-Rap Magnum or Mann's Stretch 25+/30+, and two mid water lures such as Rapala CD14Mags. If there is a lot of surface activity, then Rapala FMags (those with plastic lips) become a better choice, especially in the smaller sizes. If you are in deep water, say 90-100 feet, you cannot hope to reach bottom unless you have downriggers installed on the boat. As for colours, Red Head (red and pearl-white) is also one of my favourites, but for Kings. For Hamour, I like yellow, orange, green and gold or a combination of these, but honestly, colours are more of a personal preferance than anything else. When a fish chooses to go for your lure amongst many similar lures, it is more a matter of luck. Thanks, Ijlal |

Dear Amir, From my personal experience I can only say that categorising what depths fish can be caught from is almost impossible. I think it depends on the weather, time of year and probably a million other factors. Hammour is a bottom feeding fish so i would suggest trolling lures close to the bottom or bottom fishing. I have had great results with both. But having said that i have seen hamour strike bait fish on the surface even far way from shore! this is rare i think. my favourite hamour lure is the red/white rapala magnum cd18. this is my personal preference. King and cuda will hit almost any type of lure they come across regardles of size. Ive had barracuda attack lures which were bigger then them! And i have coaught them on poppers, skirts on the surface aswell as on down rigger! depends on the day. From experience i have found queen fish prefer smaller lures. Bright colours have worked well for me and I THINk most have been caught closer to the surface. Im sure some of the other guys can share their experiences which may contradict what i said haha thats fishing! My 2 cents, Bart |

Amir, From my own experiences; 1) Hamours are usually caught while bottom fishing due to their bottom feeding habbit. HOWEVER I had heard of slow trolling (around 2knotts MAX) with squid/octupus like lure (jig) to be quite effective but still yet to verify this myself. They are mainly feeding around rocky bottoms or that with coral formations. 2) Kings(Mackeral), Queens and Barracudas are predatory fishes. They tend to roam around at mid depth up to around 1-2mtrs below the surface. Minnow/sardine/baitfish like lures which are highly reflective are most effective. In these clear waters, the most effective colours are those with greenish or bluish hues. Till date, the most effective lure I had ever used are the Yo-Zuri F crystal minnow with large spoon-like bill. My freinds had also sworn that trolling (orange colour Yo-Zuri (teasers???)) diving boards attached with spoon-like highly reflective spinners at lengths after 3mtrs are highly effective,. HOWEVER, till date still yet to try it out myself. I had seen on fishing DVD and this had also been confirmed by Udupa that the Kings will also hit poppers! And at one occasion I we even caught one while bottom fishing!!!!! As for Queens, they usually attack in groups thus if one is caught, while reeling it in you might see upto 3-4 more following it, trying to get the "prey" (which is actually the lure) from the first one. Thus advisable to reel it in slowly so your other fishing pal can try to cast and hook-up the whole "entourage". Cheers! |

Greetings Lord Harvey... (jeez, it actually sounds pretty convincing..."Lord Harvey"...and sits quite well too) I mean, come one, I cant imagine a moniker like "Lord Dagwood" or "Lord Baugartner" or "Lord Brown". Havery... meshes pretty well with the "Lord" prefix and sounds very convincing an becoming too...nearly as good as "Lord Dylan". Okay okay, enough of bloody preening you foxy Saxon. And this fish I caught had a nice soft bouncy tail that wiggled oh so naughtilly and a nice texture to it, smoky bedroon eyes, honey brown complexion, raven black hair and smelt of blossoms in spring. She fell for the 18cms lure I was packing. Also, the drag i set allowed for lovely traction while cranking the lever(winky winkkkk winkkkk). Lure came out unscathed from the repeated cast & retrieval process. Unhooked fish and let her go after playing around for bout a couple of hours with lure deeply embedded. Have tagged her for future trips though (teeheeehee) and got her GPS coordinates. And the perfect laugh while pointing little finger to lower lip should be BWWWWWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, BWWWWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA...BWAAAHAHHHAHA". Ive practiced to perfection. I shall give a a 6 hour crash course in belting it out the nxt time over. Bye for now you incorrigible Anglophile... |

Now then Dylan me olde crustacean collector from the deep blue, good to see you did leave some of them there treasures of the Sea and Sand for us fishermen folk to grab... I apologise for the lack of my fishing appearances on your recent fishing trips, i just had my family arrive in Abu Dhabi and trying to get them settled in. I guess the remaining fishing season is over for me until Sept at which point we'll have to venture out again. I think the fish would prefer JEAN PAUL GAUTIER, it used to work for me in my single days....heheheheheheheheh hahahahahahah(evil laugh with little finger of right hand pointed to the lower lip) Adam |

Hi there Bros Amir and Ijlal ..there has been and IS an ongoing debate bout the composition of WD40. But then there is also a vibrant debate about life on Mars as well..Idea is to focus on researched data from a scientific point of view.. Business Modelling is my forte and I did do quite a study on this in the process of setting up a manufacturing plant for a similar product either in India or Kenya. Dynamic is if WD40 contained any Bunker/Manhaden oil or any ORGANIC OIL whatsoever it would be 10 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE. Hence this claim about fish oil in WD is complete nonsense. Dont beleive it. Its totally impractical - from both, industrial and economic perspectives. Not viable. Not true. Trust me. Below is the lab tested composition... 50% Stoddard solvent (mineral spirits) 25%Liquified petroleum gas 15+% Mineral Oil (light lubricating oil) 10-% Inert ingredients And the WD stands for WATER DISPLACEMENT... and its kerosene based. It's not even a lubricant. WD40 DOES NOT LUBRICATE....IT ONLY PROTECTS AGAINST OXIDATION FROM CONTACT WITH H2O. PERIOD. The reason fish could be attracted to the smell could be several factors...that the bait when sprayed lasts longer coz it acts as a non slovent coating, oR maybe the chemical combo of WD has some stimulating factor on the endorphins of the fish lad di dah.... BUT...THIS THEORY SEEMS MOST PLAUSIBLE TO ME: WD40 can MASK SCENTS!! And mask OUR HUMAN PREDATORIAL SCENTS particularly. We humans are predatorial mammals like dogs, sea lions, sharks, otters, beavers, whales etc and also have OILY SECRETIONS like them and these scents can be percived by the fishes' olfactory (smelling) nerves to be predatorial on the bait we handle. So the WD40 masks the predatorial scent of the oily deposits we leave on the bait while handling it, hence making the bait less dangerous or treacherous for the fish... and therefore increase HITS!!! Elementary dear Watson. Maaaan...this is gettin me fuk44ing tired and I'm falling asleep already..this stuff is making feel like I'm still at work. sorry for the monologue. G'morning everybody...RISE AND SHINE...TIS A NEW DAY YESTERDAY BUT ITS AN OLD DAY NOW.....Im now gonna say beddybye |

Guys, Spraying WD40 on lures is nothing new. On a US East Coast forum I am a member of, there has been a lot of debate on the subject and many old hands swear by it. Some are of opinion that WD40 contains 'Bunker' oil, so acts as an attractant. Please be advised bunker is an Atlantic baitfish, otherwise known as Atlantic menhaden. It is a popular bait amongst East Coast anglers from Massachusetts, all the way down to North Carolina, targeting striped bass. As Abdul Latif put it, many scents such as that of sunscreen tend to spook fish but some do act as attractants; diesel is another item that some anglers swear by! Just my two cents... Thanks, Ijlal |

hi Amir. How are you. Well there are no regulations as it is a simple big paddle boat. And there are no restrictions as such as you cant take it too far into the sea. These boats are just recreational boats but due to its size its comfortable to fish from with 3 people onboard plus equipment. So they are not exactly the rigid hull type. I have been using one for the past 4 months everyweekend and i have not had a single bust from the cops. |

am gonna keep an open mind on this wd40 thingy and probably spray a few fresh baits with it and check it out. But as the saing goes "believe half of what you see and nothing that you here". I know Marlborough would be keen to convince me that smoking cigarettes is less dangerous than crossing the road...but then u know the rest...I wouldnt trust opinions bout wd40 made by the manufacturers of wd40. Need independent data |

Huh? I thought that the scent/smell/stench of the spray which is highly "keroseney" smell would drive the fishes away! I personally would try avoiding touching any chemical or anything with strong smell (e.g perfume, petrol, hand sanitizer, sun block and other skin lotions) while fishing as I realised that whenever I did the bites are less. Could it be that the fish enjoys getting high on the WD40 spray scent????????? Best Regards! |

Hi guys, for your information. When sprayed on fishing bait, WD-40 covers up the scent of human hands on the bait to better lure fish, according to USA Today. The WD-40 Company receives hundreds of letters from consumers confirming this use, but prefers not to promote WD-40 as a fishing lure since the petroleum-based product could potentially pollute rivers and streams, damaging the ecosystem. rgds Amir |

Hi Dylan No GPS coordinates I'm afraid (I don't have one and noone marked it on the boat), but both kings were taken trolling a few hundred yards off the line of yellow buoys on the west of the World, following the outer wall.
