Hi Ronald, Infact, it was quite pleasant out at sea compared to being in the city with all the heat generated by automobiles, airconditioners and other machineries. Cheers! |

went out fishing from Ajman with three other Bruneians (Mohammed, Irwan & Din), Kim and Ashley (the trip organiser). Would like to thank Ashley for being able to get the trip organised by managing to get hold of the boat. Thanks bro! Left the jetty at around 1720hrs. main format was bottom fishing with squids as bait. Not much actions before the sunset at few spots and it was also quiet after the sunset. Captain Ali told us to be patient as the the moon still hasn't risen yet. True enough, just as the moon arise, the bites were non-stop! Mostly Sherries and few sultan ibrahims, dotted snappers, barracudas and two trigger fish. Total catch was estimated about 40+kgs with all catches smaller than the size of our palms being released. The biggest Sherrie was weighed at 2kgs. The two trigger fish is estimated to be about 1+kg each and were strong fighters. It was sure fun fighting all these fishes with light tackles with rods rated upto only PE2. Ashley, Kim & Irwan had some success using jigs catching Barracuda nd Sherrie. I tried some jigging with the power jigs but without any hits. Will post the pic as soon as I get them from Mohammed. Cheers! |

As you know the weather is unbearable which makes difficult fishing. All the best. This is the best time to do maintenance work on our fishing equipments. Regards, Ronald |

Hi guys, Yes, everybody is hibernating.... Found a good site during net surfing though it is for fishing in Cyprus. But still there are many specis in common. It shows very detailed information such as baits used, appropriate line and hook size, habitats, etc. Why don't we have this kind of site in UAE? Check this out! http://www.fishingcy.com/htmldocs/sltwtrfish.html Cheers!! |

Dear Abdul, I gave up buying the Japanese popping rod from Korea. At the final stage, the owner confessed me that it is so stiff that we can barely cast even 100g poppers. Even though it could handle 40~50kg fish, I hate a rod too stiff like that. So, from your trip to Brunei, please try to find a good popping rod for me. The Lemax rod that was broken in mussandam had quite good action. If you can find the same one, it'll be OK. But please check if it's really "made in Malaysia". I heard many Malaysian rod manufacturers off-take their rods from China. Cheers!!! |

Hi Kenneth...its nice you got a good catch at this time of year. Mabrook mate. Thanks also for the link and info about the Aquarium in Shj. I sure will get there. Sharjah seems to do a lota things right, unlike here in dubai where installing parking meters and salik and condominiums seems to take precedence over bigger social & cultural issues. But, a small correction bout the hammours - they dont HIDE under the boulders and wrecks etc. This their NATURAL HABITAT. That's coz they are ambush hunters - not predators mate And its a good thing that now theirs a aquarium to observe the undewater habits of fish and for free. Wow. Something actually free in the UAE Fantastic. |

Hi All, Last minute trip, went out bottom fishing Friday early morning. We left from Ajman at 4.00am and were back at around 8.30am. The sea was not that bad however the water was a bit on the rough side had us rocking from side to side. The water current was really annoying even after changing a few spots and while bottom fishing using number 10 weights they were still drifting away from the boat, I guess this should calm down from October onwards. I tried jigging which was very successful as I believe Baracudas are really hungry early morning and will hit anything that moves. I used a PE 2-4 jigging rod and Diawa Cladia Kix 4000 reel with 12 pound mono. It was fun pulling in Cuds of 6 and 7 kgs that were hitting my jigs like crazy. I also got stuck with a huge cat fish which had my other casting rod bent like the letter n but managed to bring it up and then let it go. We also caught many Sherries ranging from 1 to 3 kgs. total catch was around 40 good fun on light tackle. I did not post any pictures as there was nothing so exciting but will put up some when I get time. All in all I must say the season is almost over and I cant wait for next winter. Cheers, Ashley (If at first you don’t succeed, change your lure) |

Amir, We did troll for quite a while....only short of hitting the dolphins themselves!!!!!!! Like I said, IF only we had a REAL EXPERIENCED captain/skipper, the result would had been totally OWESOME! We did some popping around the rocks but maybe due to the extreme heat that day and at that perticular time, there were no hits......additionally we were already too exhausted from all the ruby snappers from depths of 100-120metres!!!!!!! Only the first catches we managed to bring up with one continuous reeling.......rest of it made us to stop 3-4 times!!!!!!! It's certainly no joke!!!!! Imagine fighting extremely fast fighters like dogtooth/yellowfin/bluefin tunas in such depths??????????? We went ot one of the Lulu Hypermart, where we saw GTs, hamours, Tunas and mackerals of big sizes. Indicating the sort of good catches which we could had gotten.......with the right format and right skipper!!!!! Cheers! p/s - Will be back to Brunei for about a week end of this month. Do let me know if you want me to check out or pick up anything from there(rods, reels, braids etc). My cell no is +971-50-5528348. |

Hi Abdul, It is said that Tuna's are alway with Dolphin and I am even told that tuna's move in schools beneath Dolphins, ( I have witnessed this while trolling back in pakistan) so I think you guys should have trolled for some more time and you might have had luck. regards amir |

Hi all, Went fishing on a boat in the sea just near Muscat with 3 other Bruneians(Mohammed, Irwan & Din) + Kim. The skipper claimed to be having very good experience WHICH we later discovered was OTHERWISE!!! We were actually targetting TUNA & KING FISH as promissed by the skipper!!!!! We started trolling for a good 2hours withot any catch, not even a hit!!!! DESPITE having few sightings of JUMPING TUNAS! We also caught sight of a VERY BIG GROUP OF DOLPHINS!!!!! Eventually we arrived at a spot where the depth was about 330-350ft, although we were only about half a kilometer from land. There we caught about 25 ruby snappers!!! This was more than the total number of such fish we(all combined) ever caught in the waters of UAE over a period of 2yrs!!!! Contrary to the HOAX storm/cyclone prediction, there was hardly any gust of wind with the mercury rising to abt 40degress!!!! Reeling in fishes from such depths in such hot weather condition WAS NOTSUCH AN EASY TASK. After few catches, all your muscles and back feel sore!!! Cheers! |

Hello everyone, There is a new Aqua Marine Aquarium recently opened in Sharjah near Qanat Al Qasba and is a beautiful place to visit and experience. I was there yesterday and walked through the under ground and over head huge tanks filled with Marine Life. Get up close and personal with the fish you always catch, view their habitats and swimming habits. I even spotted many Hummors hiding under boulders, rocks and a look alike ship which shows they do hide under rocks and it was an amazing experience. Hummors were Huge, between 10 to 15 Kgs approx. To name a few that I spotted, I am not even sure what the correct names are. Hummor, Shark, Silver Breem, Sherrie, Target Fish, a small GT, Kite Fish, Lion Fish, Sardines, Cat Fish and many more. If someone can explain how to upload pictures I will upload some in the evening. By the way entrance is free for some time as the place is still under renovation and last time for entrance is 7.30pm in the evening after which doors close. Take your family along and not your tackle Chow for now. Ashley |

Hi giys, The detialed report was posted a fews das ago but the picture was posted afew days after. Anyhow, the fishes were caught with a handline and shrimps. We were after this big one for the past 1 week as we kept seing this one very close to us about 3-5 feet away from us but kept eluding us. We had cautgh a few other breams the previous days aswell with rods but this one did not bite even, therefore we tried a handline and succeeded. There are no bites anymore there as we have been there twice more but no bites except managed to catch a few terrapoons, though there is 1 barracuda still left which we saw. Its a place where you can relax even if you dont get anything. rgds Amir |

Amir/Ali...thats a nice catch...and proudly so. Keep the hunt on buddies. That sea bream looks really tasty..yum yum. But yes, do post your method of fishing too..coz it would benefit others on this forum. Because, as is evident, guys like this kannadiga chap for instance, just bombard it with pictures of catches just to show off their measly acheivements hoping to earn "brownie points" And Amir, have you decided on the intex boat as yet? If not, my friend owns a company that specializes in rigging yachts and sloops and has some nice rigid hulls including catamarans...lil expensive but a far better buy any day. Lemme know. Bye for now. |

Nice photo, Amir & Ali. I am surprised that you guys caught such good sized fish at the Creek. But please, as many members want, please explain in detail how you guys caught those fish : bottom fishing, lure casting, bait or lure used, line, rod & reel... etc, etc. Otherwise, this forum becomes merely a photo album just to say, "Guys, come and see what I got!!!." My dear friend Udupa Kannada... i really feel sorry for having hurt you under your gills...and I hope I havent descaled your ego...or for that matter...hooked into your soft spot...or jigged your thingamajigg in some manner. But the fact is that I did get your goat (mehmehmehmeh) Was it something I said? duh? Id like to "shake hands with you and be friends" but cant coz I'm afraid I'd contract a dirty tropical disease.... I just read Environment section in Gulfnews, where it states..." Hurricane stories are fake, says Dubai Met officeBy Mahmood Saberi, Senior Reporter Published: June 17, 2008, 13:06 Dubai: The met office has denied as false stories circulating that a hurricane is forming over the Indian Ocean and is heading towards the Arabian Gulf and will hit Oman and other Gulf states hard. "It’s all rumours," said the duty forecaster at the Dubai Met Office, adding that there is absolutely no chance of rain. ........" True or false -It would be better to take precautions, never know what. Regards, Ronald |

Udupa, Mama mia! I have to admit...I envy you for having such a good time in Maldives! How I wish I could be there......having a ball of a time!!!!! Got a DVD on excellent, newly discovered fishing scenes in Andaman/Nicobar islands. With lots of GTs, Sharks, Groupers, Snappers etc....on jigs. And marlins on trolling skirts. Maybe, Port Blair should be our next destination now??????? As always, I will only testify to this once experiencing it myself, FIRST HAND. Cheers! |

abdul the rods were carpenter sp78h with 12 kg max drag rating and we used ygk dyneema braid pe8 on stl10000s and a saltiga dogfight. the most effective poppers were the owatatsumi and blackjack cuberas and gt mania. the best stickbaits for us were the blackjack ulua 150 and the carpenter stickbaits were awesome as well. for jigging in shallow water less than thirty mtrs the madai jigs were insane with a fish gaurenteed on the first drop.we also did some speed jigging in deeper water and got smoked by what we thought were big dogtooths.actual smoke coming off the reel.scary sight.our biggest gt was 132 cms at the fork. cheers |

Dylan retarded, inbred or autistic? which one are you?thats all you have time for huh?going off on people for knowing more than you and in some cases even having an opinion different from yours.you think putting 15 curses in one sentence makes you some kind of big shot.i dont give a shit if your mom catches more fish than me.the fact is i catch more fish than you.HA HA so you can take your sorry attention seeking ass to the water and try and catch some fish.youre the one who needs the damn prozac. you wanna prove your mettle then post some pictures of the thousands of grouper you caught 6-7 years ago.seriously man get a life.find something better to do than sit around all day whining about how you don't catch any fish and acting like you know something.all you do is talk on and on without an ounce of skill or achievement to back it up.mid life crisis is really hittin you hard huh? retard haha |

Hi Udupa, Congrats! Wonderful catch. Thanks for spending so much time to upload all the pictures - they are beautiful. Hi Okuma- Do you still meet Chacha. He's a nice guy. I did not meet him since long. Dear All... Please avoid deep sea fishing on this Friday & Saturday, as i have read the following warning : Hurricane coming from the Indian Ocean hit the island within the Arabic Tuesday evening (and God knows) Riyadh :- The U.S. Navy expected the arrival of the hurricane to the Sultanate of Oman and then to the Saudi capital Riyadh where it will be at it's most power. The anticipated Hurricane will be directed towards the Arabian Peninsula until it reaches Riyadh and the eastern region, and expectations that the ratio of rain to hit Riyadh 70 mm especially south of it, God willing. On the other hand, warned meteorology person Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Awad that there is a hurricane coming from the Indian Ocean approaching from the Arab Gulf states including Saudi Arabia . He added in his statement to "Al-Riyadh news letter:" There are three possibilities for the path of the hurricane around the Kingdom in the way to the North between the Riyadh region and among eastern region, and second bath to be derailed over the waters of the Arabian Gulf and the deepening Ras Tanura until after the strike many of the Areas bordering the waters of the Arabian Gulf from the West, the third possibility to beat the Sultanate of Oman and then go strongly to the UAE and south-west Pakistan. According to the forecasts site (Weather), which is one of the most powerful positions in the weather news in the world: DUBAI : Heavy rains with strong winds may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail on Friday and Saturday. Abu Dhabi : Heavy rains with strong winds may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail on Friday. Doha : Heavy rains with strong winds may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail on Friday and Saturday .. Manama : Heavy rains with strong winds may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail on Saturday. Hope all will be okay, and Pray that all are safe. Regards, Ronald |

Pranab bhai, Please don't get me wrong! I was not trying to admit that it was me who called you up on your house number at odd hours. I was merely trying to tell you that the main reason why people are calling you at you house is because you called them from it thus they register the number. Its merely your own actions which instigate the whole thing. Addditionally, was also trying to tell you that (whether you realised it or not) you tend to call us at odd times, that too....repeatedly. At times, you just couldn't get the "message" that we don't want to be disturbed when we rejected or not answering your calls....a few times. As what Dylan had told you and also like I said to you over the fone, such a posting will only "open up a can of worms". If there is a particular caller you are upset of, please just tell him/her directly....straight on the face! No hard feelings pal. As for me, I will refrain to call anyone beyond 10p.m. UNLESS I know that they are expecting my call. Cheers! |

Dear Kim, I dont need to relay any regrets to Anton or to Aji or anyone for that matter about the cancelled boat hunt last weekend. In fact we gotta thank you for your enterprise. The cancellenation had nothing ot do with you. it was the marine department and thats it. PERIOD. Bye for now buddy and if it was me...I'd take that trip to Oman. Trustme. You'll have a thrill. Especially with Plumpy Garfield |

There is a good saying..."dont fix something that aint broke". Which as I translate means "dont try to furkkin complicate things that are simple". So with all this on "shallow diving plugs" blah blah ....just to catch frikkin hamour is a lot of dravidian bollocks as posted by one arse out here. I got a friend I call Chacha (Arif)...an old Patan gentelman I've known for 12 years out here... who has caught more hamour with a hand line than a Dravidian can shake a stick at. And he doesnt need to travel half way across the world to prove his shit and doesnt need to post pompous pictures on imageSHAG or carry his catch on his shoulder for the world to see as some arse-holes out here like to do. He is just a humble guy who takes home what he needs to cook and gives the rest away and then has a peaceful nights sleep. And weather you like it or not...groupers are shy, lazy, laid-back in their habits. They are sedentary and not aggressive. When hooked they dont FIGHT - the resistance they put up has more to do with FLIGHT. Their diving has more to do with "survival" than "attack". And hence they head for the only security zone they know ...the crevices, niches, nooks and crannies... And i dont need to go to some weird Dravidian island to prove this. Its factual Ichthyology. Ciao fo niao mates.... So if someone out here has some amazing experience about fighting a grouper till his reel fizzled out and his rod burned red with the friction...it all a load of dravidian bollocks... |

The only grouper I can think off, that wasnt lazy and put up a good fight (rather than FLIGHT) must have been on PROZAC prescribed by some half assed psychiatrist from dravidian town. |

Dear Kim, don't spend any thought on this stuff mate. You tried your best and we all, including Anton and Aji appreciate you. It happens and its the season. Actually, if it wasnt for your initiative we would have probably just fished in a bathtub on the weekend eitherways. Have a nice one in Oman. As I told you this morning, Oman is a frikking sexy place...far more exciting that UAE...amazing bio-diversity. You have lakes and rivers and seas and even river-mouths and fantastic flora and fauna. You are guaranteed a superb experience. Only pity is that you have to suffer the company of a certain Ole Fat Cat and not me. Sp bye for now and have a nice catnap while I eat...urrr..ummm...I think its beef for today. Gotta go a check. SNOOORE |

Dear Dylan, It is a pity that we cannot go out for the boat fishing this weekend again. I asked Ashley to book a boat with Captain Ali who is a real expert in SHJ, but the captain did not accept our reservation due also to the BAD WEATHER!!!!! Even though he has a nice fishing boat (totally different from the "cruising boat" that we have in Deira Creek).... It is really frustrating that we have to wait for the boats until the new season comes in October. I can't believe that the weather doesn't allow us to go out to the sea for two consecutive weekends. (Is it normal here in Dubai at this time of the year?) As I told you, when I got the bad news from Ashley this morning, I made a business appointment with my Omani customer. On 19/06 I'll have a business meeting in Muscat and on 20/06 I hope I can manage to make a spare time to join Abdul & his fellow countrymen who are going there for TUNA fishing. So, please arrange a SHORE fishing session at Jebel Ali channel during the last weekend of this month, that is 27/06 ~ 28/06. Of course the yield will not be as good as that in the high season. But who cares? Let's just get together, cast our baits into the channel, chat and giggle... !! Cheers!! P.S. Please relay my deepest regret also to your friend, Anton, who prepared all the boat fishing gears in a hurry. ` |

Personal experience has shown me hamour often hunt along long stretches of sand and not only around the reefs they live in... also I have had hits in MID water and not only close to the bottom. BUT the hammour has to be feeding at the time and not resting. Rarely Ive seen hamour chasing bait fish even on the surface ....but mostly in shallow water. Rgds, Bart |

I neeeed you tooooooooooooooooooooo (music & singing) Pranab, mate, dont mind me but once again youre using the forum to address a private matter. If people are calling your home and you dont like it then CALL them, and in a reasonable manner, communicate your reservations. End of story. But you, for some reason, behave like this forum is a laundromat. Once again, please refrain from washing underwear in public mate. You wont solve the problem and only end up getting unnecessary attention. Bye for now |

Rami, Its quite similar to the Shimano jigs.....only cheaper BUT nonetheless as effective. The assist hooks are quite sharp and sturdy....as tested by one of my friend here locally. However, had changed the assist hooks on the bigger one to that of OWNER brand SJ41 hooks with YGK dynema/kevlar strings...as this setup is rated up to 120-150lbs. FYI, got quite a selection of Japanese assist hooks, split rings as well as solid rings from owner & Fisherman. If the weather permits, mite just be able to try it out in Omani waters this coming Friday. Cheers! |

Ijal Budddddieeeeee...(first a HUGGGGG)and then a nice swift (KICKKKKKK)in the nuts for taking my posting so personally...Just when I was about to post the "exception" to my own posting, so as not to invalidate your account. But by then you go and get nasty ya bloody pirate and go into orgasms about reels screeching and blood rushing .. and semen pumping when the hammour sits on my HOOK (wink wink) etc etc... . And yes dear Ijlal me LOVE...I speak from FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE... UNNNNlike those I criticize coz I've caught Hamour and BIG buggers and plenty. Plenty at Al Ras (it used to be the exclusive spot for Hams bout 6/7 yrs ago), and Jaddaf dockyard and behind Mamzar etc etc. And here I guess Abdul could be right...bout 7 yrs ago you could get SICKKK catching hams...too many. But they've been overhunted, especially coz baby hammours are a delicacy in arab restaurants. Pity. And YES, I have felt the adrenalin rush while the bugger heads down. And what you say does have "certain" ground. Its just that fishermen tend to make this the "rule" rather than an "exception". Now dont go gnashing your teeth and twisting your tail. Having read this, keep your peace and await my next posting coz I gotta go. And Hold tight onto your crutches ya pirate or im gonna yank them and hit you on the head with em IFFF you do another nasty "response" posting GRRRR. Ciao. |

Hi Guys, Me & Ali went to Creek park yesterday. After chasing a huge bream for the past 1 week, we eventually managed to catch the bugger. He must have surely weighed around 2-2.5 kgs. It was caught with a hand line. Also caught another good size bream which would propably be aournd 500-800 gms. Both caught on shrimps via handlines and around 3 - 5 feet away from where we were standing. I hope Ali has taken pictures of the two before getting it cleaned. regards Amir |

Pranab, My 2fils....again, The only main reason why people had been calling you at your home and at odd hours is because: YOU HAD BEEN CALLING US from either your office or your home.....and sometimes, at ODD HOURS! "What goes around, comes around" buddy! Ciao!!!!!! |

Dylan, Hi there Buddy, no offence is intended but stop acting like some of the people you yourself criticized earlier - Go catch a few good sized hamour first before deciding what is myth and what is fact. Sorry if you do not like the above, but there is no substitute for first hand experience. You will feel your blood rushing and your legs shaking when a good sized hamour takes your trolled lure from nearer to surface than bottom, and doubles your rod up and makes your reel scream as it dashes towards the bottom, in most cases, to cut you off! Cheers, Ijlal |

Yo Amir, the firsT myth about why hunting hamour is difficult is THAT HAMOUR HEAD FOR THE ROCKS the moment they are hooked. NO THEY DONT. Beause they DWELL in the bloody rock crevaces and niches. They DONT HAVE TO HEAD FOR THEM. They DONT head into the rocks coz theyre IN THE ROCKS TO START WITH.Hamours are not predatory animals..they are "sedentary lazy hunters". They just get their bodies inside a rock cleavage or a niche in a wreck or a reef hole and just shove their mouths out and wait for the unsuspecting prey to come along. Lazy biytches Like eels, the hamour is a lazy bugger. Its prey is mostly crab and cuttle fish, squid and bottom dwellers. Slow movers. So THE HAMMOURS ENTIRE BODY IS INSIDE A ROCK CREVACE OF SORTS AND ITS MOUTH IS WIIIIIDE OPEN WAITING FOR THE PREY TO COME ALONG ....AND THEN...SNAP...AND IT REVERSES (RETREATES) BACK INTO THE CAVE THE MOMENT IT LATCHES ONTO ITS PREY. And most fishermen think the hamour has yanked them into the rocks. Nope. The hamour was IN THE FRIKKIN ROCK NICHE. All it did was grab the bait and retreat back into its rocky lair. PERIOD. But what Ijlal said holds good. If u get a hamour and it wont budge coz its receded into its lair, go away....have a cup of coffee, watch a movie and come back and reel it in. about 2 weeks ago Rashad hooked a hamour and we reeled it in 45 minutes after it frigged us. Jus waited it out So its nothing to do with hamour RUNNING into rocks. They are REEF COD AND THEIR HABITAT IS ROCKS/REEFS. Its their FEEDING HABITS dat dictate WHY THEY ARE DIFFICULT TO REEL IN. Their bodies are inside rocky niches with their mouths out wide and the moment thye catch wandering prey they grab it and RETREAT BACK AND WEDGE their bodies INSIDE. Its their NATURAL hunting MECHANISM. Thats why they are difficult to YANK OUT Hammour dont RUN you into rocks like GT or fight like Cats. Its a myth. |

Abdul Latif, That jig you showed the picture of looks like the Shimano Lucanus jig. havn't tried them yet but the butterfly did some good for me. although, I'll check the split ring and assist hooks before sending it down to the deep. No brand name might not use the top quality components in their make. still, Jigs are a deadly weapon. One person here once asked about the only lure you'll using and my reply was a bucktail jig. Thanks rami |
