Hi I have emailed and awaiting pricing, saw them 2 years ago at the Dubai boat show, looked the biz for what I want, a small light weight boat that can take a 4hp outboard to fish the creeks and mangrooves, hopefully as it can be easily transported you won't need to registerit with the cost guard, well I hope?

Hi Guys

I moved to Dubai few months back. Used to fish from shore in Dammam, KSA. As I am living in Sharjah so its not possible to fish in Dubai, though will try to get a license in Abu Dhabi.
I have tried my luck near Sharjah Aqua Museum. Got few sherries and halfbeaks.
Please let me know some good location outside Dubai. Looking forward for an offshore trip with you guys.
Have a nice catch!

Hi, guys.

It's halfbeak season and we can find plenty of halfbeaks almost everywhere in Dubai waters.
A few days ago I could catch 46 halfbeaks in 3 hour near Abu Dhabi. Almost one cast, one fish...!!!

halfbeaks

Halfbeaks are floating near the shore even 20~30 feet from the shore.
And they are very easy to catch if you have appropriate tackles :
1. Super light rod (to hold all the time) 7' plus long.
2. Sensative pencil type float
3. 0.18~0.2mm shockleader: 2' long (4lb mono is OK.)
4. Small hooks (#2)
5. Shrimp bait (just to cover the hook)

Halfbeak is called "Sayori" in Japan and is one of the top-level sushi.

sayori sushi

If you don't like raw fish, deep-fried sayori gives you another delicacy.
The bones are not dispensable, too.

deep-fried halfbeaks5
deep-fried halfbeaks6

Ramadan is over. Let's go out and get those fish!!!!

Cheers!!!

Hi Gerry,

When I was living in Dubai we use to fish in Jebel Ali, somewhere between DUBAL & DUGAS. There we hooked-up variety of fish. That was sometimes in 2006. I dont' know if the place is still open to public nowadays due to some secutity reason. Try also in Jumeirah creek near Grossvenor just below the bridge. There were Catfish and Queens.

Hi Ronald,

Thanks a lot!

Went out for fishing the other Friday in Al Bateen here in Abu Dhabi and manage to catch a Trevally using skinned-stripped shrimps as bait. Others were palm-size sea breams.

Adam,
Just click the "upload attachment" located at the bottom of the post and browse your photos. Your photo size should not exceed 500 x 500. You can compress your photos using photo editor softwares. For me I used Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Hope the above may help.

Hi,

Currently back in Brunei....for Eid vacation.

As usual, can't resist the temptation of getting few stuff from the tackle shops here.

As of now already got myself these;
1) Shimano surfcasting rods, Bassterra EV 9ft and 10ft.

2) Shino Monster Chaser light jigging rod PE2...(again!!!!)

3) Daiwa Freams KIX 4000 spinning reel (made in Japan)....pimped with an aluminium power knob!!!!

4) a selection of jigs...from 40g - 150g.

5) Braids of different ratings.

6) bait chum holding sinkers and bait chum wire cage.

7) few floating "pencil" lures.

Anybody want me to get or check out stuff here can sms me on +673 8753663.

The seas are quite unsettled here due to some typhoon in the South China Sea thus unable to go out fishing on a boat here......Just can't wait to get back to try out the gears!!!!!!

Cheers!

Hi Ijlal bhai,

I am trying to learn how to use a dead bait with a float.

Do we have to use leader wire or else we can attach the float along with the bait to the line.

what should be the distance between the float and the bait. Do we hook the bait from its mouth or body.

Any pictures explaining the set up would be helpful.

thanks

Morning all

Went out last Thursday down at Mina Zayed here in Abu Dhabi. Still a bit windy on the quayside however much more pleasant and less windy than the Friday before. I wanted to attach a picture of a small shark my fishing buddy Harry caught but it is saying the size is to big and not being a techy person i'm not sure how to do this, any ideas anyone?. I hooked into a decent sized shark of around 2.5 ft but it snapped me right at the side of the Quay...!! :-(

Both were caught bottom fishing and on squid.

Oh well, enjoyed the sport all the same and the adrenelin was pumping all night afterwards. :-)

Cheers.

Hey B

Many thanks for your feed back on the salt water fresh water fly fishing tackle. It appears we have a few fly fishing enthusiasts out here in the UAE so perhaps we should arrange a day out, where do you live? I'm in Abu Dhabi.

I will be visiting UK next month so will have a look at some lower cost options as well for fly rods and reels.

Syed and I went out last night to Mina Zayed along the quayside. The weather was pretty bad and the waves rolling away so wasn't much fun however Syed hooked into a hammour but it managed to wriggle off just as he lifted it out of the water......kind of summed up the evening but still good fun!!

Hi Adam,

Would not use your sage fresh water rod in the salt water will ruin it, get a salt water fly rod, you can spend a small fortune or get a Reddington like I did from the UK.

Would be nice to meet up with some salt water fly fishing enthusiasts in the UAE. I mainly go up to Ajman and UAQ.

Ilies,

Get few of those shimano butterfly jigs for me as well. Bluish/Silver, Greenish/Silver, Orangeish/pinkish of 80-120g should be excellent for these waters.

Cheers!

Ilies/Antonello,

I would think that the prices in Kuala Lumpur are quite reasonable. They also have pretty good selection of brands to choose from.....ranging from the cheapest to those which are top of the range...e.g Fisherman, Seven Seas, Smith, MC Works, Shimano, Daiwa, G. Loomis, Jigging Master etc.

Brands like Shino, Eupro, Lemax & Pioneer are worth considering if you are looking for good value for money rods. For normal fishing in this gulf region, go for a rod which is rated upto max PE3 (30lbs line test) and reels upto maximum 8000 (Shimano Rating) or Daiwa's 4500 rating. Anything beyond that will be overkill and NOT FUN as you are literally not giving any chance to the fish. My Daiwa Freams KIX which you were using last week was only 4000 size.

I would also assume that they will have good selections of jigs at good prices too...e.g DUEL, Shimano, Williamsons, Maria etc.

Cheers!

Abdul,

ok apologies for the misscount,
however with a bigger boat we can be up to 8 people...I have just clarified with the organizer;

with the boat chartered from there the maximum is 6 anglers and they are still finalizing which boat they will charter.

I do not have the number of Ilias, anybody has it?

Ok, so let me know what the others decide so we can all choose which boat we are going to need.

Ciao!

Will try to check if Anton and Kim are interested as well.

However, we need to get a decent boat with an excellent skipper/captain. Do you know anybody?

Maybe Beefy, Tacklebloke or Kitsler can advise on this.

Its definately better at the Marina and the salesman is also very friendly compared to the one at Deira.

Its at Marina Diamond building....beside a pharmacy....only visible from the back.....where there is some sort of drainage or plumbing works being carried out.

maybe Ilias know someone around that area, anyway we can charter the boat from Dubai or Sharjah, so we could go there over night and start from there....

Lines in the water at six!!

Ok we need 4 more anglers guys...

Ijlal.....nice ones!! very nice catches!!

Hi Syed,

Ramadan Kareem & Mabrook...for the excellent catches! Welcome back! Nice to hear that the leg is on the right path ..... of recovery!

I had been fishing throughout the hot season...but still none of my catches are comparable to yours....even with all of them collectively combined!!!!!!! (Would had been a different story IF ONLY I didn't use a snaplock last Friday!)

I think......the fishes are dearly missing you thus even if you just tie a line with a hook to your crutches(even without bait) ....it will still catch some fish!!!!!! He..he..he..he.. :-)

Mohammed told me that he had been doing some casting at Mina port as well, with some success with the queenies.

Hi Adam,

Ramadan Kareem to you too! How's life? Still haven't got the chance to try out the Shimano Stradic I got for you from Brunei?

Syed/Adam - Maybe we should plan for some sort of a session, shore or sea fishing .... one of these days.

I'd be delighted to get out for some action. Let's organise something for this Thursday or Friday. Give me a call when you know your plans. i am free evening Thursday or anytime Friday.

Cheers.

Hi Ashley,

I am able to stand without crutches for short periods now, and even hobble around a bit, but spinning with artificials is out of the question right now. We caught both the fish on whole sardines suspended somewhere in mid water on floats.

Thanks,

- Hi Ijlal, Very nice catch, I am surprised you landed the fish with crutches :-) I don't mean that in a bad way, keep it up buddy. Were they hooked while casting or bait fishing?

- Nice one Mathew, on fly that too . . I am sure Fishpals is happy to see another fly fisherman show some action!

- Antino count me in for the action at Um-AL-Quain just one question, where will we get a boat from out there?

Hi Guys,

Good to see action picking up all around. I couldn't keep myself to the bed so went to Mina Zayed and helped myself to a nice 2.6 kg golden trevally and a 4 kg queenfish :-) Well, to be honest the queenfish was hooked and played by a friend; when my friend could not take the fish out, I took the rod and brought it to gaff.

(Chua, see this is new format!)

Cheers!

Hi Khalid,

Sorry for the VERY late reply. All slots were eventually filled up by two new fishing pals, namely Ilies & Antonello. If only you had called me up directly, you might had a chance of joining us.

Anyway, the whole fishing trip was not very "fishful" as we had expected. Jigging didn't result much of hits as what we had experienced during the last two trips where we were sort of having a ball with the baraccudas and few hamours!!!! :-)

Strangely, our two new friend were doing better in jigging than the rest with Illies managing to bring up a 4.5Kgs Hamour and Antonello managed to bring up a Kingfish of about 1Kg. Ashley managed to catch a 3Kg catfish through bottom fishing and I only managed to catch 01 misserable baraccuda :-( ....... throughout the whole trip!!!!!!!

The time when Ilies was hooking and fighting the Hamour, I aslo got a hit....BIG one! It caused the custom built 300g rated Jigging Master rod to bend like the letter "n". It was also pulling lines from the Accurate 870 for a short while till.........the "damn" snaplock gave way & lost the jig! @#%*&^! (censored). The (pressumably hamour) was estimated to be in the range of 4-6kgs! Another jig was lost! @#$%&^! (censored)...again. Oh well......like we always say, win some...loose some!

Other catches were Shearis and sultan ibrahims.

Might organise few more trips in the future, Insy'allah & will keep everybody posted if there are slots available.

Below is the photo of Ilies with his 4.5kgs hamour

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!!!! Just broke my duck with my new 10 wt rod. Been casting on the field for the last month, and got to actually throw a fly towards the water this morning as the temp gets cooler. Started off badly, losing some flies and getting knotted, but eventually got used to the double haul I have been trying to perfect, and started getting some knocks. Suddenly, I started to see some large shadows in the water, and next thing WHAM, this beautiful yellowspot whacks me. Glad I can actually say I know what it feels like to use my new rod and reel combo. Great morning fishing, also catching two small yellowpots, and my p.b. garfish. Will be back soon!!!! All fish returned to fight another day.

If you need a boat let us know as there will be some charter boats available.
