Hi Abdul,

Thanks, The place is in Tarif, more or less 120km from Abu Dhabi. The road is the route leading to Ruwais. ( Attached is the map I extracted from Google Earth)

The big one is 2.50kg and the smaller is 1kg. I don't know what variety of fish are these including the long with sharp teeth. There are plenty of these kind which loaded our box to almost full.

We have also some catch of golden trevally and small queens.

As usual we only used shrimps and squid as bait.

Hi Adam,

Just my 2fils on the lack of reports......

I THINK the forum members are REFRAINING from posting any catch reports....to avoid all the unwanted CRITISISMS from all those..."you know who".......just like what had happened before we join this forum.

We welcome and appreciate constructive comments/advises but not all those SARCASMS which kind of leave a very bad "after taste"

CJ...and fellow fishermen

Thank you very much for the information and we will make a plan to check out these spots. I see that some reports mention fishing in the Ghantoot area. I was there about a week ago and saw "No fishing" boards all over the damn place. Are we talking about the same place or not?

Maybe another stupid question, but do you need a fishing licence for each emirate, or would AD one do for all? I have tried to get in contact with other emirates authorities apart from Dbx and AD without any luck. If anyone has contact details or contact persons, I would appreciate it.

Does anyone know where in Dbx or AD I can find Shimano Trevala 'F' jigging rods?

Thanks and sorry about all the questions.

Cheers!

Another article of dangerous fish species in UAE waters.

1- The fire coral lives on coral rock, shells skeletons of horny corals and other submerged structures, it is highly toxic and those rubbing against them suffer a severe burning sensation, blistery rash and allergic reaction. The affected part of the victim should be rinsed with seawater, Apply vinegar, immobilize the victim and treat for allergic reaction and pain.

2- Portuguese Man-of-War . This species lives in surface water and has a thick bunch of tentacles which causes painful sting and can be fatal, they are often seen on the beaches during strong winds. The sting can be treated by vinegar or banking soda on the affected part to dislodge the tentacles and pain may reduce on immersion in hot water, Antihistamines treatment may help.

3- Cone-shaped Jellyfish This jellyfish is found in surface water, and is a close relative of the highly lethal Australian box jellyfish, but less deadly. Applications of cold packs, hot packs, vinegar, papain and baking soda on the stung area may reduce the pain, an antivenin injection prevents fatality.

4-Little Mauve jellyfish . Large numbers of this species occur in the inshore water in certain seasons, their stings develop coughing fits and breathing difficulties and cause distressing pain and allergic reaction. Application of vinegar may be useful as a first-aid to inactivate the detached tentacles, the severely affected patient must be hospitalized

5-This bell or cube shaped jellyfish is transparent and invisible, and drift to shores in calm weather on a rising tide, Its venom is often fatal and many people succumb each year, victim experiences muscular cramps, vomiting, frothing, breathing difficulties and paralysis. Pouring vinegar liberally helps to inactivate the stinging cells, Artificial respiration, cardiac message and administering box-jellyfish antivenom may help the victim

6-Bristle worm . This worm is referred to as "Ghool" in Arabic, which means "Snake" it lives in burrows at the edge of the coastal water, and delivers a painful bite to anything which blocks the opening of it's hole, in most reported cases the human foot. The bite is not fatal, however, it should be medically treated.

7-Cone shells . This molluscan species occurs in shallow coastal waters, and possesses a venom apparatus, Its sting causes pain at the site if injury, respiratory distress with chest pain, difficulties in swallowing, dizziness, blurring vision and respiratory paralysis that may lead to fatality. The treatment should be immediate immersion in hot water for 30 minutes, in severe cases ventilator support is needed, no antivenin is available

8-Octopus lives in surface to deep waters and prefers to hide in rocks and crevices, they possess two powerful jaws by which they can inflict puncture wound, a few species of Octopus produce venom and their bits is fatal to humans. The bits wounds of the Octopus should be treated medically

9-The sea urchins are found on rocky foreshores and reefs, they have venomous spines capable of delivering very painful injuries which may lead to vomiting, cramps, red swellings, numbness, loss of coordination, fainting and breathing difficulties. The venomous stings are likely to be helped by hot water immersion for up to 90 minutes or more. Puncture wound causes infection which demands tetanus immunization.

10-The crown of Thorns Starfish (COTS) lives and feeds on coral reefs, a significant mortality of corals occurs due its presence, brush against it causes many painful punctures and its venom may lead to vomiting and paralysis. Punctures and venomous pricks are treated by hot water immersion for up to 90 minutes or more, any puncture wound demands tetanus immunization.

11-The scalloped hammerhead shark spend most of the day closer inshore, moving offshore in search of prey at night, this species if considered as potentially dangerous to human especially to drive who approach closely. The wounded victim should be given first-aid to stop the bleeding and hospitalized

12-The tiger shark lives in open oceans, shallow coastal waters and islands including lagoons, it is aggressive with great care while swimming. The wounded victim should be given first-aid to stop the bleeding and hospitalized.

13-Stingrays tend to partially bury on sandy or silt bottoms in shallow inshore water, the venomous spine on the tail can stab swimmers who step on, or unknowingly disturb them, the injuries can be fatal. The stingray's wound must be allowed initially to bleed freely, wash it with clean water, and immerse in hot water, a prompt medical attention prevents secondary infection

14-The electric ray is commonly found in sandy bottoms in the inshore waters, it has specialized electric organs for producing and discharging electricity and are capable of delivering powerful electric shock, it can survive for hours after being stranded on the beach, electric shocks are a defensive response and strong enough to be dangerous. The victim should be given artificial respiration if necessary and treated for electric shock

15-Lined surgeonfish .This species is mostly confined to coral reefs, and frequently moves to shallow water to feed on algal food, this fish attacks with its side spines when excited and inflict painful wounds. Deep wounds may cause secondary infections which need medical treatment

16-Crocodile needlefish .This species occurs at the surface water and is found commonly in lagoons and reefs, it possess very long, strong and pointed jaws and is a significant threat to humans, Fisherman or divers on night expeditions are often severely wounded or even killed by jumping needlefish. Immediately wash the wound, stop the bleeding and hospitalize the victim.

17-
Honeycomb Moray Eel
The moray eel is commonly seen hiding in dark holes and deep caves of coral and rocky reefs, its jaws are large and bear powerful and fang-like teeth, it is aggressive and attacks when provoked. The wound must be washed with clean water and first aid should be given to stop the bleeding, tetanus toxoid injection should be administered

18-EEL catfish. The catfish appears in dense should in reed areas and also occurs in estuaries and tidal pools, it possesses highly venomous pectoral and dorsal spines which can inflict painful fatal wounds. Immersion of wounded part in hot water followed by prompt medical attention helps the victim, administering tetanus toxoid injection prevents infection.

19-The lionfish is found in shallow reeds and lagoons, it possesses a highly developed venom apparatus connected with the spines, punctures from the spines cause burning pains and swelling, in severe cases heart irregularities, breathing troubles, convulsions and paralysis may develop. The toxin can be inactivated by immediately immersing the wounded portion in hot water for 30 minutes, a tetanus toxoid injection must be administered.

20- The devil Scorpion fish lives in coastal areas, and in commonly found partly buried in coral, rocky and weedy environments, it can inflict injuries with its venomous dorsal spines, the injury causes shooting pain, stiffness and at times paralysis, jaw paralysis and paralysis of eyelid are quite common. Below is an Article which would be useful to all & sundry.

Fishing at your pleasure in the UAE
By Rayeesa Absal, Staff Reporter
Published: May 16, 2008, 23:39
Abu Dhabi: Summer is back with a blast of hot air and as the pace of life slows down, people head to the beaches to cool off, sail, paraglide or to fish.

With temperatures hovering around 46 degrees Celsius, early morning is the best time to fish or about three hours before dusk. Fishing season in the UAE runs from October to late May.

Fishermen's tales of someone catching a 59kg sailfish are true. But not many people know that you need to get a licence for recreational hook-line fishing in the UAE. The licence is given to residents of the UAE. There are also short-term licences for tourists.

In Abu Dhabi, the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) is responsible for licensing fishing activities.

"The licence assists in proper and sustainable utilisation of the country's natural resources and helps protect fish stock," says Thabit Zahran Al Abdul Salaam, Director of Marine Environment Research Centre.

"Marine resources are precious and a balance needs to be maintained. It is important that we know how many people go fishing and what the impact on our resources are."

The licensing system was established in 2003. Recreational fishing licences are valid for a year.

The Environment Agency has an agreement with major hotels, diving clubs, for tourists to obtain licences.

Last year Abu Dhabi issued 145 annual recreational fishing licences and 259 weekly recreational fishing licences.
In Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, the Municipality issues the licence.

Try 4lbs mono on a Daiwa Spinmatic X 500T, 2-8lbs fast action rod with a small half beak live bait. When the king or queen hit, you and the reel will scream....remember you only got 2.2kg drag to break the line. A little towards ultra-light.

Good for you Abdul,

I dont deny that fireline is a patented name. Nowhere in any of my post will you find me contesting that. All I said was that the regular fireline & the braid are not the same. The chemical properties are the same, but the method of building up the fibres to form the line are different. Just like the table & chair example I gave earlier.

Dont worry about what I have caught & how much I have caught. You & I are not in the same league. You have a long way to go, before you can even dream of what I have caught.

Till then, keep on dreaming. Such people like you are responsible for depriving learners of a chance to gain something worthwhile.

No more posts from me. I'd rather keep on enjoying my fishing than wasting my time with these useless alterations that come only from you & no one else.

Fishing king,

Please try to be more constructive than distructive.

I had clearly said in the last post that fireline is a "Thermal filament fishing lines"....as per stated by the manufacturer! Please refer to the pictures attached in the earlier posting.

I clearly said that the main reason why I thought it was just like the regular braid was the existence of "fireline braid"....which I then admitted I was wrong..... BUT what I want to clarify is that "FIRELINE" is not a generic name....its a brand (patented)name of one of a thermally (infused) fishing line made from similar material to other braids...which is "dynema"......also another brand name.

Rather than keeping on commenting on others...(NEGATIVELY), might as well try to prove that you can and/or had ACTUALLY caught some fish.....BEFORE...."AS CLAIMED" lol!

Get a life...will ya!!!!!!

Ciao!

I can tell you this much .......

Open up your eyes & ears....dont limit yourself to what one person has told you.....read, do research & learn.

I am not even asking you to believe what I tell you, but keep on learning throughout. I know that i have graduated right from catching sharks with bamboo rods, with wire guides to the latest modern equipmment. A lot has changed & it still keeps on changing.

Fireline is not the same regular braid......

you should have read the links on wikipedia that were posted earlier.....you might have learned something.

I'm no god, but am frustrated with people making a fool of themselves with little knowledge....little knowledge is dangerous !

If you can prove that fireline & braid are the same.....then you will NEVER hear from me again. I told you to close the topic, but you just had to menton it again..... now welcome to reality.

Do the line split test & find out for yourself. If you want I will personally come & meet all of you & we can do the test together.

Will you shut up then ?

Fishing King,

Talk about others being "self professing fishing gods/kings"?

Huh?!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY..... "CONSIDERABLY light"

PLEASE try to refrain from trying to become one of those which you had "claimed" to hate....in your earlier posting.

Still unable to accept that those firelines are actually "Thermal filament fishing lines"?...and fireline is just another brand name of one of the superlines?

Cheers! :-)

OMG ! You call this a light set up ???

Its by no means a light set up, but you are slowly getting there......no more 50lb lines :-)

Try getting to 8 to 10lb lines, with 2500 or 3000 series reel......
catch your first & second fish & you will be hooked for life....this will be even more enjoyable, you will get more casting distance & I'm sure you will feel more accomplished & be content with yourself.

Posted on Sunday, November 02, 2008 - 10:38 pm:

Went out shore fishing alone in Ghantoot last Friday morning......just to feed the habit.

Arrived at the canal at around 6.30 a.m and saw quite alot of others fishing leisurely...bottoming.

Found a small vacant patch and started casting a few small poppers (10-12cm). This was the same spot where we saw a kingfish jumping about a month ago.

The tide had just started rising. Was also trying to improve my casting distance with the newly acquired Shimano Bassterra 10feet rod, coupled with a daiwa Freams KIX4000 loaded with 20lbs MUSTAD braid with 30lbs flurocarbon topshot.

Eventually managed to slightly improve my casting distance. Coming to the third popper, I was already feeling some soreness in the shoulder thus started to retrieve the popper slower than before.

WHAM! I saw a silverish fish attacking but missed the popper AND it even followed my popper all the way....I can see that it was a kingfish about 1m in length....within just a few meter from me. I casted the popper again and also retrieving it slowly. The same thing, it just followed it....AGAIN!

Upon retrieving the next cast, I saw two of them...about the same size also following the popper. So I decided to cast again and started to retrieve the popper in a quick/jerky/panicky motion.

I GOT A HOOK ON! As I was having a considerably light setup, decided to play with it for a while. It was on for the next 30sec when it decided to head for an underwater rocky structure. My braidline was then severed and I lost it!

Tried casting again for a while after that but without any result thus just called it a day and headed straight home.....with a broken heart!

Cheers!

Hi Amir

Yes it is in UAQ, the spot i have seen is a good spot to camp and fish, there is a jety near by, some guys launce their boats from there. there is a lagoon with mangroves as well, good spot for barracuda and king fish.
The place is just after the aqua park. There is a big red arrow in the middle of the road, there you should turn left, the dirt road will take you strait to the spot.

Let me know what its like fishing there.

Thight lines

Hi Hatem,

The Barracuda Beach resort you are talking about is in UAQ (if I am right). I plan to go there as well. Saw the resort while going to Aqua Water park in UAQ.

Is the area behind the resort a beach area or a breakwater. Can we camp and fish as well.

Hi Louis

There is some nice spots in Oman, Dibba is a nice place to camp and fish. One other spot is just after barracuda beach resort, issolated and easy to get to, don't need a 4x4. If you want to ruf it out Oman is the best place. Most of the guys i work with goes out to Oman for fishing and camping. I'm planning a trip for the end of the month, if you would like to join me and my family you are welcome.

You can contact me on 050 189 4767.

I'm looking at going to Oman, for a weekend.

Dear fellow fishermen...

I have been in the UAE for six years and the areas for surf fishing has become less and less available. All the beaches and most of the fishing areas are now inaccessible, and or "No fishing" boards has been displayed in these areas. I have not even re-applied for my Dubai fishing licence because of this, but still have my Abu Dhabi one.

Can anyone recommend areas where you can take the family and friends for a day or camping trip around Dubai, Abu Dhabi or more north where the fishing is still good and beaches and fishing spots are easily accessible? We do regular boat fishing, but it is nice to camp out a bit and do some surf fishing. Any help and or GPS coordinates will be very much appreciated!!

Thanks and happy fishing
Louis

Hi Antonello,

Glad to hear from you after quite some time.

"Cooked" any fish fish lately, Chef? :-)

Thanks for the update/report on the UAQ fishing competition. Not at all surprised with all the disqualifications, we all know bad (ALMOST) everybody is when it comes to "meeting the deadline" here....for one reason or the other. Probably a traffic jam...at sea????? :-)

Anyway, Will try to organise something and will keep you informed.

yesterday went to Creek park to check out whether the Muncipality has actually banned fishing there or not.

I saw no fishing boards everywhere in creek park. I am not sure about the reason but may beacuse the creek water is considered to be very polluted. Will also check out Makhtoum bridge and AlSeef to see if they have put up anything there as well.

Guys Guys!!!

good to see everybody so active!!

sorry I have been a bit busy these days and couldn't get on the forum..

I loved the kayak fishing beefy!!!....I am now thinking about it..

Abdul I couldn't help myself so out of curiosity I went to UAQ on friday afternoon with my fishergirlfriend to check out the happening,
It was a very pleasent afternoon though my rods were in the car...:-(

There were 29 boats out o lot of families and people was having fun so..yeah quiet succesful

by 16:15 the first boat came back and the weighting started...

There were very good catches throughout the teams however 9 or 10 boats got disqualified cause they arrive (I a not sure about that) later then 5 30... unluckly.

Best catches? A Cobia 22 Kg got the biggest fish, BArracudas around 16 Kg!!!! Kingfish of 18 Kg.! and so on also plenty of 5 6 kg queenies, kingfishes a good sting ray, barras 6 8 kg. etc. etc etc.

Overall good catches for everybody..well I didn't see the late teams coming back as I had to leave..but they sent the coast guard out to find them :-))

Overall a succesfull festival something that is really missed in Dubai and would be very pleasant!!

Well done to Jenny and her team, for the nice organization!!

Yalla guys lets start up a fishing club in Dubai!!

Ok my "esylium" is almost over here in RAK and I shall be in Dubai from the 7th..

Take care everybody and hope these info's have been somehow usefull

Happy HALLOWEEN by the way ((is anyone dressing up as a fish?))

Ciao!!

Hi there

Thanks for the positive comments.
I bought the kayak from a supplier in Al Quoz who basically supplies cobra and malibu kayaks to all sports shops in Dubai.
He is at least 1000 AED cheaper.
I paid 4000 AED total, and this included 4 rod holders, a large fish hold, paddle etc. I had shopped around, and this was the cheapest I could find that was a proper fishing ski. It works really well, and is very stable which is important when fighting larger fish.

His number is 050 6784055.

Braved the second early morning to give the other side of the palm go, and to dodge security early in the morning, when it is still quiet and dark. Man was it worth it!!!!
Started trolling a white and red lure behind the kayak, and also tried for some live bait on the sabiki tipped with squid. Had one big knock on the Sabiki, but the rig broke where the hook attached to the line, so decided to paddle up to the right bridge. Just before the bridge, my new penn starts singing and with a tightening of the drag, I was into my first decent fish on my new kayak. It was also my first Couta, and boy was it a beautiful fish!!!! I would say close to 8 kg. Such fun being pulled around and actually having to use the drag. Decided to keep it, even though I was reluctant, as I thought it would be good for some fish and chips tonight.

Once I got to the bridge, there were boils and some serious activity going on. I got into something on my smaller rod, but lost it just before surfacing. Think it was a queen.
Then caught a lovely hammour on a pink yozuri minnow. Decided to help save the fish stocks so returned it to fight another day.

I have become very jealous of Ian recently, with all the plastic bags he has been catching, so I thought I would add another new species to the list of "unfishy" fish. I name it ROCKUS COCKUS and it fights quite similar to that of a hammour. This particular species was caught on a little silver spoon, and was also returned to fight another day.

A great morning out, and also a good workout paddling back into the wind.
The kayak makes such a difference, and gives me so many more options of fishing.
Can't wait to use it in the mussandam.

STOKED!!!!!!!

CJ, Abdul and others,
Thanks for the advice on what to get and where. I did manage to spend a few hours in the Al Ras area, (next to the Fire Station) and found most of what I wanted. I found Barracuda very expensive for the products on offer. I have decided to go with my original intention and get my jigheads, Gulp and Powerbait lures, and my Beachmaster rod, with a Shimano Stradic or similar reel in South Africa. At the current exchange rate, it works out a lot cheaper to buy in SA and import the gear to Oman. Check out these products at www.basilmanning.co.za
The other option I am looking at is importing a jetski from SA that has been modified for offshore fishing, unless something is available locally? Does anybody know of any compainies in the Gulf that modifies a jetski for fishing?
Chhers.

Me, Ali & Shan went out for a bottom session on Friday from heritage village.

Left at 6:30am and fished around Dubai for 3 hours. managed to get around 20-25 kg fish in all varying on sizes. The catch mostly included sherry's, Four barracuda, 2 humours. I lost a good size barra as it cut my line and Shan lost a good size homour while getting it on to the boat. Will make sure we take a landing net next time.

Used squid & shrimps as bait with a combination of rod & handlines. All small size fishes were relaeased back.

According to Shan who is experienced in boat fishing, the day was not considered a good day.

Morning all

Just to report back that a a few of us went out on Friday by boat from Mina Zayed in Abu Dhabi. We trawled and bottom fished. Bottom fishing was rubbish and produced zero fish where as the trawling produced 5 king fish which were all nice sizes. Syed Ijlals was the biggest of the day. I have no pcis to put up yet but will upload later when i get off the guys.

Thanks Adam:

PS: The king fish is yummy, my first experience of trying it and i had it for dinner last night :-)

Hi Ijlal,

I think you are right. I actually heared it from a few guys who fish in Pakistan. May be I could have confused it with wireline.

I am selling by set up as I have realised that there isnt much of trolling activity around here. Additionally I have a separate set up for bottoming so I thought I would get a trolling rod which is smaller in size & may be I would used the BG 90 with the new rod.

Thanks for clearing my understanding on fireline.

Amir,

I am sure you must have misunderstood something to write fishing with Fireline is not considered ethical in Pakistan. Nothing like that pal. I have seen people use it as early as 1996 or 1997, though could not afford it myself at that time, and I mean people who promote ethical angling, even Aziz Bhai (Aziz Agha.) There is nothing unethical about using Fireline or other superlines. Is it possible you confused Fireline with wireline?

By the way, why are you selling your Slammer and BG90 combo?

Thanks,
Ijlal

Fishing King/Amir,

Looking at the "Firelines" that I currently have, according to (what are printed on)the labels, the general term/generic name for them should be "Thermal filament fishing line".

The newer version, the XDS is much thinner and smoother. The 54kgs (119lbs) rated lines are much thinner than the 86lbs Rapala Titanium Braid. Its more like having the diameter of a 65lbs power pro braid!

Cheers!

Hi Guys

I know some of you have mentioned Kayak fishing before and i met a guy from the states living in Abu Dhabi yesterday down at Mina Zayed. He is a dealer for kayaks and i list below his e-mail to me with the Kayak's he stocks. I would like to point out that i don't know to much about kayak fishing but these seem to be built for fishing.

Anyway as some of you had mentioned this on the forum before, please find the links and the guy's name and number below, he said it's ok to contact him directly.

Thanks.
Adam

You are right Abdul.

I am not refering to the Brand Fireline from Berkley.

I thought Fireline was a types of fishing line (similar to mono, braid etc) & not a Brand name.

Its not a rule of PGFA but of what I had read on their website was that they would not accept any records of fish caught using a fireline.

Ijlal: Can you through some light on this.

HI Amir,

if you have time read the following articles;

1)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_high_molecular_weight_polyethylene

This is for Fireline .....read from Fiber applications.

2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braided_fishing_line

This is for braided lines.

3) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multifilament_fishing_line

This is for Fireline-Braid (Seems like it, but I am not too sure about this last one)

Amir, please note that all fishing lines, mono, fluoro, fireline, braid are all dangerous to the environment. That is one reason why an angler / fisherman should be responsible for maintain & keep his fishing area clean & not throw any line clippings into the water. These lines are not bio-degradable & can easy trap & kill marine life/creatures if not discarded properly.

The best thing to do would be to take home all the clippings & dispose it off properly in a bin, away from marine life.
