We have had many great fishing trips the past few weeks here in our area of New Smyrna Beach, Daytona Beach, Orlando, Mosquito Lagoon, & Edgewater. Catching Redfish weighing 25 to 30 pounds near Ponce Inlet. Catching many Seatrout, also Black Drum in the backcountry at Edgewater and Mosquito Lagoon flats fishing trips are producing Redfish from slot size keepers to over slot size Reds up to 10 pounds, also some larger Seatrout up to 27” on the flats. I offer Mosquito Lagoon Flats Fishing trips for Redfish and Seatrout, for the novice or experienced angler alike. I also offer Indian River Backcountry Fishing trips, that is mixed bag fishing for Seatrout, Redfish, Black Drum, Jack Crevalle, Ladyfish, and more. On the average Backcountry trip we catch between 10 and 15 (or more) different species of saltwater fish. This type of trip can be extremely entertaining for beginners or experienced anglers. My boat accommodates from 1 to 4 anglers. Located close to DAYTONA BEACH, NEW SMYRNA BEACH and ORLANDO. Feel free to contact me at any time with questions you may have about my fishing charters. Some high winds have descended upon central Florida and are forecast to remain with us for much of the coming week. The wind has made sight fishing difficult but we have managed to catch some nice redfish and seatrout despite the challenging conditions. Water levels are still quite high but the temperature has dropped significantly with yesterday morning's water at 66 degrees. If conditions allow you to find the fish, they have been biting. Last week, prior to the arrival of the cooler temperatures, I made a trip to Mosquito Lagoon with my friend Mike. We hoped we would be able to find a few tarpon lingering around. We only saw a couple and did not get any bites. The redfish and large seatrout, however, were much more cooperative. We caught several of each on a DOA shrimp and used the Baitbuster for some redfish double hookups. This Monday, I made a solo trip to Mosquito Lagoon. It was the first day of the cloudy and blustery weather. I used 5.5 inch DOA Cal lures in Stark Naked and Silver Mullet colors to catch several trout over 24 inches as well as three redfish from 30-38 inches. All were caught around schools of small mullet holding around patches of shallow grass and sand. Tuesday, I fished with Larry and his wife Debbie. The wind was blowing when we started but they both caught several trout to 25 inches using the CAL tails. We found a few schools of redfish as well as scattered singles during the day. The wind and clouds made it tough to see and cast to the fish. A handful of trout were caught and released but no redfish made it to the boat. The forecast for Friday was for winds up to 20 mph. Despite the poor conditions, Canadian residents Mark and Marianne wanted to give it a try anyway. We spent the day along some lee shorelines attempting to avoid the choppy open waters. Both caught some nice redfish including a 48 inch brute.
When the wind dies down, the cooler water should produce some good fishing for tailing redfish. Trophy trout have made their way onto the flats and can be found in the shallow sand holes throughout the day. We have been seeing some black drum each day as well. The DOA shrimp is one of the few lures that is effective on all three species. Fish it slowly along the bottom for best results. Capt. The unseasonably warm temperatures here in Mosquito Lagoon have kept the baitfish schools around. Our water temperatures in the Mosquito Lagoon have been hovering around 80 degrees on most days. Big gator trout have returned to the shallow flats and can be found in the sandy patches waiting to ambush unsuspecting prey. A stealthy approach followed by an accurate cast with a DOA shrimp has been effective on the trophy trout. Redfish are still willing to eat a mullet imitation such as the DOA Baitbuster. Reel the lure along the surface for some great topwater action. The shrimp has been working well on tailing redfish throughout the day.
The tarpon moved out of Mosquito Lagoon after the cold front moved through a few weeks ago but can still be found around Ponce Inlet in Daytona and along the central Florida beaches. Capt. Chris Myers Central Florida Sight Fishing Charters http://www.floridafishinglessons.com |

Every fall season the mullet begin their migration on Florida’s coastline. The mullet saturate the beaches and parts of the intercostals waterways. Anglers that wait for these mullet runs expect great fishing to follow and it usually does. Snook, tarpon, sharks, jacks, barracuda, and many other species of fish follow the mullet run and feed. Working the beaches you can usually cast net several mullet for your fishing trip. It is best to stay close to the schools of mullet and throw your bait on the outside of the school. Tarpon and other fish usually pick off the fish that stray from the group. Mullet work on safety in numbers and when they break up, it usually means being attacked by a predatory fish capt fred 4079485035 |

Capt. Drew Cavanaugh January 12, 2009 Mosquito Lagoon - Fishing Report The past few days have brought some changes to our weather patterns here in central Florida. The weeks leading up to this were basically epic to say the least. That is EPIC fishing and even EPIC weather conditions. Warm days in the upper 70's mean great days on the water. This beats the single digits I saw on the news in the upper mid-west, that is for sure. Like I have said before-this is why we are here in Florida. Even with the changes coming on it is still awesome weather conditions for sight fishing the Mosquito Lagoon. The fishing has been really good. Redfish have been roaming the flats early and staying on them throughout the day and morning. Along with the redfish I/we have been seeing(and landing) numerous trout. Again I say trout...NICE TROUT. We saw some trout that looked like a yard sticks swimming by. Very nice indeed. Most of the trout that have boated and released have been in the 18-26 inch range with a few over that size. Some of these fish have been caught on top water but most with live shrimp or a free lined mullet. These fish are onto you before you know it. Approach them with that extra love and tenderness of stealth. Redfish are still being caught using the sight fished shrimp. These fish are roaming in schools and are getting to become very spooky with the pressure from the holiday weeks along with the combination of great weather days of fishing. A strategically placed one(shrimp) I might add. Remember take your time and it will pay off. Soft plastics like a gulp will work extremely well too. Black drum are still being found within the Mosquito Lagoon. However these fish have had so much pressure they too are very spooky as well. If you are able to get up on these fish use a smaller sized hook and cast well in front of them as to not scare them with the cast. They will do the flock of birds thing...One turns, they all turn and then they are gone on you. Call today and book a trip of a lifetime to Fish the World Famous Mosquito Lagoon and the Indian River. Known as the Redfish Capital of the World. Home of the best light tackle backcountry inshore saltwater flats fishing Florida has to offer. I look forward to seeing you on the water. Tight lines and great days ahead! Here's your's truly, Jordan Kahn, with a red caught, I think it was Dec. 2006. Anyways, it's my biggest red. Capt. Fred Robert deserves credit as the guide. Let's call this fish 42-inches. We didn't measure it. It was a really fat red for 42 inches. I don't think it was much longer and it could be a little shorter. It bottomed out a Boga Grip scale at 40 pounds, although I don't think it weighed much more than that. How's that for the honor system! |

Got out yesterday and caught a limit or red snapper, five mangos, one grouper and a couple of kings. Fishing in 120ft, the tide was bad to start with but soon changed in our favor. We caught the snapper and grouper on both live and dead herring. The kings were caught trolling with spoons. Things should be good for a while with the snapper spawn just starting. Hoping to get back out tomorrow. The weather is going to be a factor. Fish on! Capt. Mike www.daytonatriplethreat.com fish.knotonduty@gmail.com |

Finally got out on the 4th, had a halfday trip. We fished 15 miles south of the inlet in 80 ft of water. The water was 68* and clear green. We had some people from Atlanta Ga. Their first time fishing. The bite started out a little slow but we ended up catching 8 flounder from 3 to 6 lbs, 2 red snapper, our limit on sharks, and a variety of smaller fish. We were using herring, squid and had a livewell full of pinfish. The dead bait was the only thing working. We did end up drowning a couple of live bait. We looked for some cobia on the way in but never saw any. We had a river trip on the 3rd, a family with four small children. They did'nt want to go offshore, so we anchored in the river and had non-stop action with pinfish, a couple of whiting, a few crabs. They got tired of fishing, so we took the scenic route home. They had a great time and will be back next year to try offshore. Got a trip on Friday. Hope to have a good report. Catch-em up! |

Fishing offshore has been pretty good this past week. The warmer water from the South is finally moving North. Bottom fishing has produced good catches of Red Snapper, occasional grouper and a few Mangos. Trolling has been spotty with a few small Dolphin and occasional Wahoo offshore in 180ft or more. King Mackeral and bonitas are in the 100ft range. Got a few trips booked for this week. Be back for an update. |

Me and my roomate went surfcasting just north of the Ponce Inlet jetty back in mid november, we used a 3 hook rig with clam belly on the bottom hook and 2 shrimp on the top, we ended up bringing a 26 lb..i think its a red fish in and we've been doing pretty good other wise, a lot of decent siezed whiting and the occasional sand shark and sting ray. we usually do best as the tide is going out and about an hour before sunset on calm days. |

Subject: Off shore report from Ponce inlet, Daytona Beach
June 3, 2001, This week has been spotty offshore with the Dolphin and Wahoo. Not sure what's going on but I think this southwest wind we have been having is messing with our fish. Most trips this week we have been finding the dolphin scattered around the 180 foot ledge along with the occasional Wahoo. In the afternoons we have been bottom fishing for grouper and nice catches of snapper. Today we had a morning 1/2 day trip for Barracudas and Kingfish. Talk with you next week. Capt. JJ May 29, 2001, Hey Nick, well we just finished a very busy tournament. The first day we found a beautiful weedline in about 450 feet and caught a bunch of dolphin to about 30lbs and one small Wahoo but nothing big enough to make the tournament. The second day was terrible fishing but the third we were able to find a big weed line in about 1400 feet of water and we caught more dolphin to about 30lbs and had a big blue marlin in the spread but we couldn't get a bite out of him. Oh' well that's fishing. Today we caught some nice red and gray grouper, red snapper and big triggerfish. Talk to you next week, as we have charters booked for every day. Capt. JJ May 19, 2001; We have had long offshore trips all week. We are finding the main color/temperature break in about 140' each day. The dolphin run which we thought was on last week has really slowed down. Every trip we have been getting at least 6 to 10 dolphin with the occasional 30 pounder thrown in. We have also been catching at least one Wahoo per trip except one this week. Today we had one that weighed 46lbs. There are also big kingfish in about 140-150 feet of water. They are usually over the reefs but for some reason they have traveled offshore. On Tuesday we had 4 kingfish that weighed a total of 90 lbs. Real nice catch. Well, got to go and get ready for the next trip. Talk with you next week. Capt. JJ
