Hi Adam, Unfortunately 'no' is the answer to both questions. I phoned Ibrahim to try and get out from the creek but he told me that the boats were out the water for repairs as you said. He gave me another number which proved fruitless as the gentleman Mo that I call ended up telling me to phone Ibrahim!!!! Quite annoying. Also contacted Oceanactive to see if they had any mixed charters going out, but yet to hear from them (can't quite affort the 3600D that most are asking for a four hour jont. Let me know if you hear of anyone going out this week as I fly home on Wednesday night. Thanks for your support its been appreciated. Marc |

By the way Pranab you cannot detect the smallest bites if your rod class supports 40lb line . . . . try going for an Ultra light (4 to 8lb line) of light / medium (4 to 12lb line) rod class which is perfect for what you are looking for . . . This is available at Sun & sand sports like I have mentioned earlier as I also bought a Shakespeare light rod (4 to 8lb line class) from there. This comes with a reel is around AED 175/- or something. |

Pranab, HELLLOOOOOOOO! Either you are high on something or having a very severe case of STM!(SHORT TERM MEMORY) U are suppose to call me YESTERDAY to see and possibly pick up the rod, U had insisted to take. AND NOW, U want me to check out and pick up a rod for U????????? I am still (VERY much) here till mid this month...(PLEASE read the posting CAREFULLY!) Like I said, first come first served basis, no reserve. Cash & carry. I am not that desperate to sell them as I am having enough cargo entitlement to ship them back. Just thought of passing on these considerably good quality(compared to those generally available here) stuff to other fishing enthusiasts. BTW, Wakey....Wakey Pranab! |

Ash,
Don't think you can support the claim! he..he..he.. FYI, now also having a Shimano TwinPower 8000, same size as the NAVI you took from me BUT with max drag of 15kgs! Just can't wait to use that to wack few Amberjacks and GTs!!!!!! ...... Are you drolling already? If you do, I am officially owing you a box of tissue now! Anyway, would highly appreciate if you could try to organise a parting fishing session with either Abdullah, Ahmed or Ali before 13Mar. For everybody's info also......Even Mohammed will be leaving UAE at the end of the month.....to be my fishing buddy in Brunei! BTW, didn't get you the braid as you had requested during my last trip coz the prices are currently more expensive than those available at Sea Star @ Al Ras. Cheers! |

Hi all, Just wanted to informed everybody that I will be ending my stay in Dubai soon, last day on Fri 13th, to be exact....after 2yrs+ assignment here. I will be assigned to oversee the whole cargo operations based in Brunei. I would like to thank all forum members for all their friendship, assistance and guidance, ESPECIALLY those who ARE GUILTY for having got me addicted into fishing e.g Irwan, Din, Fishpals, Ashley, Kim, Kit, Adam, Syed Ijlal, Mohammed, Antonello, Anton, Philip, Khaled, Hanny, ....just to name a few ...(the name list is just too long!) Anyway, it had been a pleasure knowing you guys and please DO let me know (in advance) if any of you guys happen to be passing through Brunei enroute to Australia or other Far East destinations. Insyaállah if time and weather permits, will try to arrange for a fishing session in Brunei just to introduce the local fishing there. I shall be contactable either via e-mail csalatifa@rba.com.bn or mobile no. +6738753663. PLEASE DO LET ME KNOW, prior to my departure if I am still owing any of you guys anything, so that I can settle them otherwise any further claim beyond the date will be considered VOID and will not be entertained! he..he..he.. Cheers! |

After being excited by the catch of Mohammed last week and his jack nicknamed "Big Jack" for obvious reasons, you could say that i was eagerly awaiting for this week to get to Friday so i would fishing again! This week though i would have to change my usual plans as we had friends of the family in Dubai so after collecting them Friday morning from Dubai, i decided i to rest (no i'm not getting old- i was advised by my wife to do so and i don't disobey the wife ;-)....)and hit the water on Saturday morning. So stopped at my usual stop along the way to my fishing spot, Yes ADNOC (service station for the international readers benefit..) for my usual latte with caramel fix....well what did you expect at 6.30am i need to wake up! Half way there Stewart called to check if i was en-route and to let me know he was already there. We were due to fish at officers club today. After arriving at Officers Club, we unloaded all the gears and set up. It was extremely foggy down on the beach and we were casting blindly. After 15 minutes or so the sun broke through and it was all clear...time for fishing or not!! Out of the blue came a police patrol boat. Now it is common to see these boats passing by but usually they just pass by however due to a defense exhibition being on in the city next week they had obviously been asked to move people on from any places near to the palaces. So, we moved on!! It was a pain to pack up again after just arriving but who am i to argue with the police .....anyway, moan over we drove towards Tarif...! Now in the convoy was Reinhard (my friend from work and a great chef- free plug there for you mate, i want a nice juicy well done steak for that.. :-) ) who had come down with his son sebastian and also Stewart. After arriving at our 2nd spot of the day we set up again and after literally 20 seconds of casting out Stewart was into a fish. It turned out to be sea bream, a little on the small side(sorry Stewart) so it was thrown back. 10 minutes later Sebastian caught his first ever fish. The drag was on quite loose and the reel started to scream out the line. His Dad(the great chef :-) ) quickly grabbed the rod for Seb as he was playing in the sand and he came running. He took hold of the rod and started to fight the fish, he eventually landed a nice sea bream. All morning we fished and caught between 4 of us 20 fish. 3 were kept for the pan, 17 released. Stewart also brought his camera to take some snaps of the flamingos and we never bothered with the breams as they were returned as soon as they were caught in order to let them live and be returned safely to grow and live another day.

Hi Guys, We to the Ajman, oppsoite to the kempinski hotel. I put a large piece of sardine on a big hook and let it sink to the bottom. Within 5 minutes my reel screamed. Got hold of the rod and after 10 minutes of fight managed to get the fish to the surface. it was about 15 feets away from me. As i was fighting the fish,a boat came and took away my line. By the fight it gave it seemed to be atleat a 10 kg+ fish.Havent yet face such a good fight including during trolling sessions. regards amir |

Morning all Have a great mornings fishing on Friday out of Abu Dhabi. We were supposed to head out on the Yaks but due to the weather it was not possible with strong head winds of 17 knots. So we decided to head out and do some shore fishing. Surprisingly when we arrived, the weather wasn't at all that bad but it was still very overcast and looked like it was about to rain heavily at any moment. This kind of overcast look remained throughout the morning and in fact i believe that beacuse the sun was behind the clouds, it actually helped our fishing as it was a very productive morning. There was 3 of us fishing, myself, Mohammed and Stewart. We were all using squid and shrimp for baits and bottom fishing. After about 40 mins of fishing, Stwearts rod started to bounce very gently and then mine next to his. All 3 of us were watching mine and Stewarts rods when all of a sudden, Mohammeds reel started screaming off line and we knew he was in to a decent sized fish. For 15 minutes he battled it and it had tangled both my lines and was swimming from left to right in a sweepng motion across every bodyelses lines!! Until finally it swam up onto the beach and Mohammed had landed a 6kg Jack!! What an awesome looking fish. We also caught bream after bream all morning and i reckon in total we had around 16 breams between us, 13 of which went back to the deep blue.. Stewart was on hand to capture the pics of the Jack. Enjoy!!
PS: I still have the 2 BRAND NEW Abu Garcia Diamond Crest boat rods for sale at AED 200 each(bargin) if anyone is looking for a new boat rod!! |

Hi Amir All the fish pics are on my mates phone camera..!! Total fish we caught was 12 breams and a 1kg queen fish. 9 breams put back the rest kept. Squid and shrimp used. It is a channel on one of the side roads on the way to Tarif...it's a beautiful spot with many other shallower channels running in and out of it which would be great for fly fishing and there must have been at least 400 -500 flamingos in their natural habitat. One could easily mistake it for Florida...!! |

Morning all Hope you had a good weekend, fishing or no fishing! I went out Fri and Sat fishing. Fri - Headed out to a spot on the way to Tarif with some friends from work. We arrived around 7am and the fog was still low, it lifted at around 8am and then the sun came out...and boy did it come out! Having just been freezing myself in England last week it made a nice change to be able to wear shorts and t shirt although today i am sat here with my forehead and eyes completely white and the lower half of my face burnt and like a beetroot colour!! We were using squid and shrimps for bait with 2 and 3 hooks traces and running ledger rigs this time using 2oz weights. We fished all morning upto 2pm and i caught a small bream which i returned as it was small and one of my friends caught 11 breams and a 1kg queen fish, 8 breams returned. The funny thing which i have report back was there we were all fishing with "top branded" equipment and then along came some other fishermen no more than 5 meters from me using hand lines and within 15 minutes had caught 5 breams...!! Just goes to show that you don't have to have the best equipment to catch fish! Sat - Had a friend over from Doha and he was staying in Dubai so headed out on a friends boat around 11am for a few hours trolling. We trolled around the world (not literally around the world) island but caught nothing. We did have a good laugh which was just as good as landing fish in my opinion and i enjoyed looking back at the Dubai skyline and the palm island and Atlantis hotel. We did get stopped at one point by the security boat patrol of the World island asking us to stay 200 metres from the breakwater if we wanted to fish in the area. Have a good day. Adam |

Hi Bart, It was a storm lure, silver in color with black stripes and a red head. Bought it from Sun & Sand for only AED 11. All fishes were caught on this but not sure if its was the lure that was attracting or the down rigger was contributing. rgds amir |

Hi Guys, Went out from Dubai for a trolling session with a friend (Shan). Left at around 7:30 am. Reached the spot around 8:40. Started trolling with four set ups. Three of them with Daiwa sealine reels with 25lbs mono lines and 1 set up which was provided by the boatcrew was with a shimano tld 20/25 with a 30 lb mono line. No baitfish activity but manageged to get a few barracudas ranging from 6 -11 kgs and two 4 kgs king fish. All the fishes were caught via 1 set up which was connected to the down rigger. No action on any of the other rods. returned back by 3pm. regards Amir |

Hi guys Looking to sell my 4 month old Malibu X-13 fishing kayak due to an possible upgrade. The ski has been used all of 7 times, and is still in really good condition. It has a large hold in the front, straps at the back for a large equipment holder, 4 rod holders, and a dry hatch in the middle of the ski. These are now retailing at between 4500 and 5500 AED in most stores, so if you are in the market for a new second ski, I am willing to sell it for 3500 AED. Give me a call on 050 3989354 or email me on beefybovril@yahoo.com.

Hey Guys, Yeh I think roldans catch is a mangrove snapper... I once caught one of those trawling a rapala which was bigger then the fish which hit it! Their aggressive fish, but great eating! I think what we commonly refer to as a red snapper is something more like this: http://www.landbigfish.com/images/fish/LBF_Red_Snapper.jpg what do you think? |

Hi Guys, Have caught plenty of these in around the creek. The biggest caught was about 1 feet. The shape is more roundish rather than flattish like breams. Some one once told me they are called coral fish, not sure though. regds amir |

Hi Fishpals, The global economic recession is also hitting the fishes......it seemed Just kidding......! Somehow the "FREAKISH" weather plus the STILL ongoing redtide we are currently experiencing had greatly affected the productivity of the sea. Team Richie, who went on a GT popping trip in Mussandam last week reported very bad result. The red tide is still pretty much there. Such a bad season had at least made a few(if not most) of us to reflect on ourselves so we can be more responsible in order to sustain the "fishability" of the gulf waters/sea.....which we might had overlooked or taken for granted before. Ciao! |
