Well looks like a windy weekend but, if any of you die hards want to try.... Homer and I will be down at 5:30 to get you out before the blow starts. We had a few gus out this week with slow picks on the bottomfish and 6-10 halibut. Today Drew Brandy was out by the pea patch and had a 35lb, 17lb, 12lb, and a 8lb halibut. Nice job! Happy Fathers Day all and Good Fishin Marty |

Darby has posted a web site that i ask all of us to read, ( nothing else to do during the gale). once at the site scroll down to page 44 and 45 Topic: Parking Meters Implemetation Here are some of the Highlights; 1) Paid parking was determined to be ineffectual 2)Paid parking can create the UNINTENDED consequence of actually deterring commerce 3)Pay 4 Parking may not offset the cost associated with the acquisition and maintenance of the devices or related personal and could have a negative impact. Here is the real kicker folks. without requard to the cities findings for metered parking, the Harbor department is still applying for the permit for the launch area only stating : " This may be an opportunity to gauge opinions from customers before pursuing a more structured AND intensive paid parking program. Although i have taken some of the above out of context and para phrased. the last sentence is a quote from the report. Seems the we get to be part of their experiment before shoving it down the whole waterfront. the info is there. |

This morning's (2am) SST is the best I have seen this season ! So many close places to go, but just one problem and that is GALE. She says "stay off my ocean". And then adds "I will be here for a while" Looks like a week at least before we get a break. |

John lindsey's PG&E weather forecast. SEA/SWELL: Batten down the hatches, this morning's surface charts are indicating a steep pressure gradient developing along the California coastline today. This condition will produce increasing northwesterly winds and sea/swell through Monday. These northwesterly winds will generate a 5 to 7 foot northwesterly (300-degree deep-water) sea/swell (with a 5-9 second period) this morning. Strong to gale force (25-38 mph) northwesterly winds will generate 6 to 8 foot northwesterly (310-degree deep-water) sea/swell (with a 5-11 second period) this afternoon and tonight. This northwesterly sea/swell will further increase to 7 to 9 feet (with a 5-11 second period) on Saturday through Monday. Note: Wave heights will be higher at the offshore buoys. A 5 to 7 foot northwesterly sea/swell (with a 5-9 second period) is forecast along our coastline on Tuesday through Thursday, decreasing next Friday and Saturday. |

thanks for the feed back, I like the idea of the bb's. I was looking for something loader than just the beercan.. I picked up some wireless doorbells/switches at homedepot and will attempt to modify them for use along with the can. hopefully i'll have them rigged for the next shot at albacore |

John, Hugh- you guys are right on. I hope you'll get a letter to the city council and Mayor Peters and/or possibly go the the council meeting Tuesday to express your views. http://www.morro-bay.ca.us/index.aspx?nid=267 I did send a letter myself. By the way the "misunderstandings" I reffered to were not here but people who called me. |

Stace ....I did not bother reading your link but have an idea of what your looking for. We have always had and eggcrate with the tuna cord, chain and jig loaded with a BB filled Beer Can. Can even hear it over the armada of Radio Fish Talk and music blaring on the boat. Sucks dragging around an early season peanut when it could have been a bait stop. BEER CAN ALARM works just fine. |

25 years ago i took a economics in fisheries at Humboldt State Univ. At that time the money spent was 150.00 for each salmon and 250.00 for ea. steelhead caught in the local rivers. does anyone have these type of numbers for here? I have the 10.00 for the fees and i will not stop fishing but it will be 10.00 less i will spend at the merchants. Thats enconomics 101. please understand the contrubtion we make and the power we have. hope to see all monday, whatever stand u have on the issue. |

Thanks John. I recieved 2 private e-mails from this site saying the same. We all want a clean, safe , working harbour where we pay our fair share, but not singled out as fishermen (commercial or sport)to pay for a bad ecomony. Boat sales tax, boat owner tax, restration, fuel tax , sales tax on tackle and electronics, repair bills.and they say it is a free launch. We should be honored for helping the industry we love. Darby, i know the merchants rightfully rejected parking meters but are they in support of the launch fees? |

stacy I would tie an empty water bottle to the long side of the bungy cord. when you get hit the cord streachs and the bottle flys over the rail. |

What we use on boat lines is to tie a beer can to it so it hangs inside the boat, then when you get hit the can flies over making a racket.Might be too simple but it works. |

I second Hughs veiw...I live in Morro Bay have owned a home here for 21 years. I trailer up and down this coast and this Harbor is like no other and I would like to keep it that way..The people who think they will make money on this do not understand the dynamics of this misguided uneducated change of procedure....I went to many of the Fish and Game meetings thinking they really will try and listen when I figured out the fix was in there was not much left to do but know I tried....Once again I will try to keep things the way I think they should be and not get fooled again....This change will cause a major finacial change in Morro Bay as boaters stop using the launch...Don't expect someone else to step up if you won't...come to Morro Bay.... step your game up..John |

Thanks Darby For the clairification. I meant no Crap by my remarks and can see that we will need a speaker who can articulate the views we have heard on this site and knows the whole harbour fronts needs. May i nominate you? I am not saying i want something for FREE (launching), i just think my fishing dollar is better spent in private hands then in a tax. I buy my bait from your reciever when i can catch my own, i bring company to have fish and chips instead of cooking at home, i still fish off of charter boats even though Marty C. in PSL keeps mine running GREAT in support of OUR great local merchants. If there's a harbour camper craping on the floor , please inform me who he is. he should be arrested. I will be at the meeting, not to fight with city hall but to work together. respectfully. |

I'm sorry if that last post was misunderstood. The local commercial fisherman's association are the ones who first brought the launch ramp parking fee issue to our attention and have offered to support whatever position the CCFCC decides to take. Most of you don't know it but our commercial fishermen work very hard to look out for the interests of Morro Bay sport fishermen. We are "them" so let's get over this "us" and "them" crap. What makes Morro Bay so great is that we have people in the harbor department, fishing and tourism industries and sport and commercial fishermen all working together. When one of us gets stronger, we all do. There is no other port like this I know of on this coast. My point in posting Jerimiah's note was this line, "...there was no opposition (at the city council meeting) so they were just moving ahead with no input from either sport or commercial people so please speak up and tell them what you think..." That’s all. Besides the fact that parking fees really are charging for the use of the ramp which is illegal, my main concern is that once we start down this parking fee road it will not stop. Mayors and councils change and the next regime may say since we have it at the ramp, why not down the road and so on. The problem with that is we are a town catering to visitors. We want and need people passing through to stop, look around and possibly stay awhile so they can spend their money in this town that depends on being inviting. If they have to pay just to stop, I don’t think they will. I don’t when I get in towns like that. |

Stacy, it sounds as though you are very much more informed on the history of the issue. let me tell what i think is to be the truth and what i feel. i was informed that the launch was built with the understanding that no fees would be charged.thus the reason for callling it a parking fee ( or what is called a tax ). my problem is 1) that the Tax is selective. 2) that the moneies will not be used for the benifit of the payer. How long do you think the excemption for commericial fishermen last after they get the gates up? they already lied about not charging fees to launch. all launch users, commercial and sport need to unite agianist fees. what i may support is a non selective whole harbour front parking fee for a dollar a day. put that to a vote. oh, they already did and they turned it down. |

Hugh, I believe you are malinformed, The biggest force to divide commercial and recreational fishremen are julie pacakard and the united anglers of southern california (who threw us under the bus with the central coast mpas.) I for one could care less about a fee at the morro bay launch. perhaps the harbor patrol could get rid of the guy who deficates all over the bathroom walls with the added revenue. |

RE: Lunch ramp fees. President of the commercial fishing association wrote: Hi All, If anyone is interested in the fee process at the launch ramp please attend the City Council meeting on the 22nd this Monday. Darryl Terra spoke with us today and said he thought that for commercial fishermen that could prove landings should be exempt. This sure sounds like an excellent solution and idea for commercial boats at the dock. I will not be here for this meeting but have sent letters to the city council ,mayor and harbor on the issue and will mention Darryl's idea too. We encourage any and all that are interested in this issue to attend and speak out. We were told that up until now there was no opposition so they were just moving ahead with no input from either sport or commercial people so please speak up and tell them what you think would the best way to handle this project. Hope to be leaving here by the end of the week, hope everyone has a good summer and the fish and weather co-operate. See you in September. Jeremiah |

Randy,I'll give you the Oregon salmon/steelhead report when I get back after the weekend. The ocean sport salmon season OPENS there on Saturday with a 3 fish daily coho bag limit and zero chinook.I'm doing 2 days on the ocean for the silvers and 2 days in a driftboat on the McKenzie for spring chinook and summer steelies.Oregon allows 3 fish in combo for the day on the river and only 1 can be a king salmon....The twins are not going on this particular outing....jeff |

I agree that raising kids right is more important than any single day of fishing.I have missed more than one wide open bite due to a piano recital, gymnasics event or punky kid soccer game.Fortunately my 6 year old twins are taking to fishing in a way that I could never get my wife interested.I started them out flyfishing for trout with a guide friend up in Oregon because flyrods are light in the hand and the single action reels can`t backlash. After they caught a bunch of trout and hooked a steelhead or two,I started taking them on ultra-shallow water trips out of MB on my boat...When I take the kids,I leave my rod at home.We focus on the "experience" and not how many fish we catch (so far they have never been skunked).A few weeks ago we also took a couple of their friends and my two budding pros showed the other kids how to thumb the spool on the drop and keep the gear off the bottom....With any luck they will be able to launch, drive and clean the boat in a few years and I will be fishing on easy street.....Jeff |

Safety Message....I pulled my boat into Coast Electronics in Morro Bay (talk to Bill)and for 20 bucks they tested my antenna and radio with some sort of device. Turns out my antenna, that looked like new, did not work. It goes without saying that the radio is one of your most important safety devices on the boat. Best money I have spent on this boat in years... |

Greg: I reached the same conclusions on the altimetry. I plotted 7 areas where albacore were caught and none were in any area of down welling. All were near the zero line or a little positive. The altimetry data is on such a large scale that it won't indicate exactly where the tuna are but it will certainly tell you where not to go! Should be a usefull tool. |

I was just making a joke guys, My wife is as supportive of my fishing as I am of her barrel racing....I have turned my share of fishing trips for a hot and dusty rodeo.... She even suggested that I buy my new boat because it so much safer than my last one..gotta love a woman like that...She once sold a horse so I could buy more fishing stuff....As for the new motor, I just had to promise that my boat would be faster than Grillo's (Devil Dog)... Bye the way, Brent I told her my boat was faster than your rocket ship....lol...it will be our little secret that it isnt... |

As a fellow tuna chaser and terrafin subscriber for many years the info that's come out on Altimetry seems to be right on! Those that posted clear warm water but no life were right in the middle of a "down welling" and the area of posted albacore catches were in the "target zone". This may be the best thing to come out since chlorphyl charts. Good job on all that ventured out!! Mike Moore: Congrat's on the Sea Bass. I was out there all weekend and only ended up with one Halibut and some calico and a barracuda. No love on the biscuits for us. Fished from Yellow Banks up to East Point at Rosa. It was blowing close to 20 when we left on Sunday morning. |

Hey Jim I think it means about the same as "whatever"! Any way Harrels info was right on ,fishing was slow but it felt good to pull on albacore again ! it seemed like there were only a few isolated schools of fish-only had two fish take the bait, but when you got bit on the jigs it was multiples. |

Jim (Cracka). Meant to say hold the course. Young family requires much patience and team effort. Take advice and make her dinner and let her get naps. It will get better with time. |

Hmmm...maybe the more experienced married fisherman can help me decifer this wife fishing language.... What does this mean? "Just do what ever the F#@$ you want" Should I go? LOL Been there done that too! Good call moving on. I now have one that not only encourages me to fish but pulls on them too. <;///>-( Jim (Seeker)and others. Thanks for the looking. Has anyone been to that water around the 1908 recently? Glowing. |

Cracka ,ill bet your wife is just tired ,your newborn is about 3 weeks old and depending on how many times a night she wakes up she probably just needs a couple days to rest up ,try gettin up in the middle of the night with the baby so she can just sleep and get up with the older kids in the morning so she can sleep more, and make dinner so she can take a nap in the afternoon and i bet the attitude gets better ,women require alot more sleep than us men |

Jim Didn't you just have a kid? If so I would think twice about it. women get tired and cranky. And your fishing trips could go to child support |

Virg's isn't planning any tuna trips right now. Has to be fairly stable fishing before open party trips work. But we will do charters and I can work a good price midweek for you guys if you want to put something together. It's just a matter of getting everyone on the same page. Anyone interested in tourny fishing call Mike Coss @ Virg's. I heard the last one was great. Incredible sunset tonight on the ocean! |

Friends: Was out at the Galley for dinner tonight with Harold Davis ... and our wives. Saw Jim Nailen go by headed for the launch ramp ... he held up a couple albies .... they were at least 20 lbs each. He got 9 ... and I heard Mark Van Waggoner (sorry if I misspell the name) had 10. I hear they both went about a 100 miles to get the fish. Hope they get closer to home soon ... Mel |

I've got two five lug pattern galvanized rims - one with a new P205/75 R14 tire, the other tire is shot. Take one or both - FREE. Email if you want them. Still some flatties north of MB. Picked up a 26" and 29" on Saturday on live dines. |

Albacore update; Two boats went to Harley's numbers today but nobody home. So they went prospecting out as far as 96 miles and back in and finally hit em just below Sur canyon ! Total 19 between them. Average size which is a WAG - 16 lbs. Numbers were 35:50 and 122:20 which is 78nm from Morro and 50nm from Monterey. Don't think the weather is going to be any good for the next 3 or 4 days. The thing I liked about todays catch is that it was closer to the beach. |

First post but have followed the forum for ~ a year now. If you look at the altimetry data on tempbreak, the albis that Harley caught look like they might be following that large finger that points to Monterey? Also, I see that a Jeremy Peterson has posted from time to time. Do we know each other (West High Debate)? |
