Went North out of Morro Bay last Saturday. Caught 2 nice reds and a lot of small gophers. I used a new black Goggle Eye twin tail I got on Ebay and they were pretty good. They out did the others I tried 4 to 1. I'm going to try again this Friday up north around Cambria.
Hope some more locals start posting.
Good fishing to all!

curt: if it's the same ICHIBAN floating in our bay, the harbor patrol reports that she has no caretaker and is currently taking on water.

tito: have not seen anyone float fishing the bay, and if there is a concern for sharks, they're leopards or smaller. how much can they eat, maybe a foot? to answer about what is in the bay to catch; sharks, rays, occasional rock fish and FLATTIES!

I got a question regarding fishing in Morro Bay, would float tubing work well in the bay or am I food for sharks???

Also, what species of fish are in the bay during the spring and summer time? Great site

Subject: Bottom fishing at Morro Bay

I have mainly fished freshwater my whol life with the exception of a few occasions, so I know nothing about fishing saltwater from anything but a pier. Lately I've heard some stories about my great grandfather having been quite the seaman, going out at 5 in the morning in a row boat and coming home with sacks of cod, halibut, flownder, sole, and crab. I'd like to test my luck at bottom fishing in Morro Bay, but have no clue how to do it. If anyone can tell me the basics of bottom fishing and how i might get my self out there w/o drowing, I'd appreciate it.

Subject: Sea surface temps

I just made available a seaview sea surface temp program on our computer in the front office for anyone interested in looking at it before you make the run. The advantages of seaview over Terrafin is it shows you exact temp and lat/long numbers where ever you point and nautical range and compass bearing to that location from Morro Bay. Just ask to see it at the front counter in Virg's Tackle store.

I just heard of some fish below and outside of the Buoy, about 25 miles from Morro Bay. Seaview shows a good sized bubble of water there too.

Good luck,

Darby

Subject: Canning Tuna

Hi Blackie,

I've been canning Tuna for over 40 years. I never cook it first. I use what they call the raw pack. Clean your fish, pack it in the jars and leave 1/2 inch space at the top. Put in a pinch of salt and wipe the rim clean, put lid on and tighten band. Follow the instructions for your canner. I process mine for 90 minutes at ten lbs. with 2 inchs of water in the canner. Try smoking it first but put in a little canola or olive oil when you can smoked fish. People will fight over it.

Enjoy,

Don Hydinger

Called Patriot today (they didn't send a boat) but landing rep said vhf rpt saw some privates getting into the albacore. They heard one private boater was heading in early with 20 fish. The guys that out of Avila Hoist that couldn't fish 50-plus-miles missed out.

Subject: Charter/party boat listing?

Does anyone know of a listing of party and/or charter boats operating out of the Morro Bay, San Luis area? I'm going to be in Cayucos in the Xmas holiday season, and would like to spend a day (maybe part of a day) fishing!

What are you catching in the Central Coast in late December?
