Star Fish went fishing on Saturday Nov 7 and Sunday Nov 8. The striped bass are here in the back bay in the rips and in the white water. Saturday the weather was beautiful with a clear sky and bright sun. We anchored in the white water and opened up our bushel of clams, using them as chum as well as for bait. We also used eels and fresh bunker. We caught keeper bass on bunker chunks and clams. David Oppenheim of Voorhees NJ caught first his first striped bass, a short by ½ inch and then about 15 minutes later he caught his first keeper striper, while his dad watched with a smile. Sunday was more of the same, except the fish were larger, and we had some monster blue fish mixed in. The blues seemed to favor of fresh bunker chunks. While we were fishing we heard more reports of big blues up the beach. We will save that for another day. Capt Carl Sheppard Beach Haven Charter Fishing Assn. 609-661-3080 cfsheppard@aol.com |

Star Fish Log 9/1 – 9/13 On the last days before the big blow from the NE, Star Fish went South down to the lobster pots and the lobster hole off Atlantic City. The catch was dominated by little tuney (false albacore) with nice surprises from very large bonito and some dorado (mahi-mahi). After the blow Star Fish went out to see what was on the bottom. We ended up with a catch of about 120 fish in six hours of fishing. These consisted of some nice large black bass, bluefish, used-to-be-keeper fluke, and porgies on the wrecks; weakfish, croakers, and a kingfish drifting in 50 feet of water. We also caught the largest American eel I have ever seen. I was almost 4’ long, and so heavy we had to net it after almost a 30 minute battle. Looking forward to finding some more nice weakfish in the coming weeks and the beginning of striper season. Capt Carl Sheppard Cell: 609-661-3080 cfsheppard@aol.com |

Star Fish Log 7/30 – 8/2Great LBI Fishing! 7/30 AM – Captain Vic and mate JD went reef fishing off Beach Haven, Great day. Lots of black bass on the reefs off Beach Haven. GSS is producing nicely. Some fluke & blue fish mixed in. Great brown shark ate the bluefish when we sent him back down on a steel leader. FUN. 8/1 OFFSHORE – Captain Carl and mate Tom. Much smoother. We ran off the Barnegat Ridge to see what we could see. What we found were nice sized bonito and Spanish mackerel. We ran into bluefish on the way home. We had a blast. Brought home only enough to eat, but could have kept catching all day. 8/2 OFFSHORE – Still smooth seas. We ran off the Barnegat Ridge to catch some more of the nice sized bonito and Spanish mackerel. Fishing was even better. We had fish on as soon as we got back up to speed. This time we added some skipjack and frigate mackerel to the list of species caught. When the storm clouds arose in the west, we scuttled for shore. Got to the dock before the rain started. Wonderful trip. Again we brought home only enough to eat, but could have kept catching all day. 8/3 AM Back on the reefs with Captain Vic and JD. Fish still bite and the weather holds. Hope you all will have fun too. Tight Lines Capt. Carl Sheppard Star Fish Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association Lbifishingcharters.com Reservation Phone 609-661-3080 |
