There are rigs preassembled from manufacturers designed for specific fish species.

Fishing leaders utilize monofilament line for smaller game fish and metal leaders for larger game fish.

Accessories include plastic baits, spinners, plugs, swivels, low visibility line, rigging wire, beads, and floats. Accessories also include tools and rig components such as crimp pliers, crimping sleeves, leader cable, and hooks.

With a few tools and accessory components an angler can fabricate their own custom rigs. One example is shark rig for fishing off the beach. Wire leader cable is crimped to a three way swivel. One leader line is attached to one swivel point using a sleeve and crimp pliers A hook is attached to the end of this lead wire, also using the crimp sleeve and pliers.  A second steel leader cable is attached to the remaining swivel point and a weight is attached to the end of this leader cable. The fishing line from the rod and reel are tied onto the top swivel point on the three way swivel. This rig can be cast a long way and the steel leader will withstand the punishment from strong shark teeth.
