Boat trailer tires and wheels will vary in size and load capacity ability depending on the size and weight of the boat being towed.

A good general rule is to have the largest diameter wheel as possible for each application. The reason is that a larger diameter wheel makes fewer revolutions per minute and thus reduces wear on wheel bearings.

Another key point is the number of plys in the tire selected. More plys in a tire mean stronger side walls and stability.

Pulling a boat on a trailer is more dangerous than ordinary driving. Skimping on tires and wheels is not a real cost savings.

Radial tires give a smoother ride than non-radial tires.

Wheel selection should be influenced by the environment where the boat will be used.

If the boat will be launched in salt water, consideration should be given for wheels to made of aluminum, stainless steel, or galvanized steel.
