Boat Trim Tab |
Boat Trim Tabs are used to correct the problem of porpoising which occurs during boating. Porpoising is the problem in which the nose of the boat lifts up and down while moving forward, much like a porpoise, which means the boat’s hull runs at a wrong angle at a particular speed. Using trim tabs can help boaters correct this problem. Trim tabs work in the same manner as control surfaces in airplanes.
If you operate the trim tab when the nose is up, it will push the water down and force the nose to plane out, thereby leveling up your boat with the water surface. You can also use trim tabs in situations where you have a lot of passengers on one side of the boat and so the boat is leaning to the heavier side. In such cases, lowering the trim tab located in the side opposite the leaning side will level your boat.
