Subject: Connecticut is alive

Hi to all,

The Connecticut River has come to life with a vigor to be proud of. Hendricksons were heavy but short lived with the low water at time of their emergence. Caddis and most particularly the egg layers with the green egg sac on the tip of the abdomen are producing well on top with small weighted nymphs doing equally as well slightly sub surface. Bigger fish have begun to move to the surface with the plethera of spring insects. Water temps are running in the upper 50's and the bigger fish still have their metabolism in a checked position. Their rises are periodic but exciting if timed right ;) Water levels are good and the north country is seeing well needed rains that should perk up the fishing even more. Till later...

Subject: Ice out-salmon are in

With record warm temperatures in the Northeast the ice and snow pack disappeared long before it was expected to. The ice is now out on all of the Connecticut Lakes in Pittsburg,N.H. which is the source of the Connecticut River. The landlocked salmon have come into the inlet at Lake Francis in their anual smelt chase. Water temps have climbed to the upper 40's and with little rain expected will probably continue to do so. In the portion of the Connecticut River below Colebrook the water is now clear but cool. The early spring hatch of caddis is still sporadic but has begun to bring fish back to the surface.. albeit small fish but the bigger ones will soon follow. All for now from New Hampshire's Great North Woods region.
