New York Angler Catches A Smallmouth Trifecta!
Dania Beach, Florida-The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) has announced the approval of a three New York freshwater line class records on 4-lb, 12-lb and 20-lb test line. The record smallmouth bass were all caught in the Susquehanna River.
Jeffrey S. Weilby of Cortland, New York caught his 12-lb line class record smallmouth bass on August 13, 2000, which weighed 3 lb 1 oz. On August 19, 2000, Weilby added a 3 lb 14 oz bass, caught on 4-lb test, and a 3 lb 10 oz smallmouth, breaking the current 20-lb line class smallmouth record by over a pound, to his impressive resume. In addition to these records, Mr. Weilby has the 4-lb, 12-lb and 20-lb New York state line class records for largemouth bass, as well as the 4-lb, 12-lb and 20-lb state freshwater records for walleye. Weilby also holds the 12-lb line class record for pike.
There are still 5 vacant New York freshwater line class records remaining in the 4, 12, and 20-lb categories. A complete list of all 50 state freshwater line class records and the species recognized in each state is available free from IGFA. All state freshwater line class records are listed on the IGFA website www.igfa.org. There is no fee for IGFA members to submit state record applications. Non members are charged an application fee of $35, which includes all processing and administrative costs, a state record certificate and a one-year membership in IGFA.

The IGFA State Line Class Record Program is separate from each state’s all-tackle record program, where rules vary from state to state. Anglers are allowed to release their potential record catches alive after weighing, photographing and measuring their catches.
