Subject: Island area of Lake Erie( Western Basin)report
Hello, it’s Friday evening. We had a good fishing day on Lake Erie. We had a lot of Fish Ohio’s today. Joe Fryman Jr. from Richwood, Ohio, and Mike Myers, of Marion, Ohio were out together in Joe’s boat today. They really got into the bass over around South Bass Island. They were catching them on a light colored tube jigs. Then Mike had caught enough bass and he wanted to go for walleyes. So Joe headed for Cedar Point where we told him the walleyes were. They trolled like Joe said his dad had taught him to do. They were pulling Magnum Wiggle Warts with some blue on them with an orange belly. They had a great catch, I don’t know how many they had all together, but I know they had one walleye 3I ½" long that was 12 Lb., one that was 31" long, that was 12 lb. and two that were 10lb. and a couple more that were in the 8 lb. range. I don’t know how many more they had. They were both getting there 12 lb. fish mounted. I tried to get them to get a stringer mount done. They said they would like to but that would be too much money. They had one of those once in a lifetime days, and they won’t appreciate it until 30 years from now when they haven’t done that well ever since. Congratulations Guys. We had another good catch today. Linda Swartz of Fremont, Ohio, caught a 14" yellow perch. Her and her husband were fishing up by "C" Can up by the boarder north east of Kelleys Island. She is getting it mounted too. The weather is suppose to be nice for the next few days. Tomorrow the wind is suppose to be out of the west at 10 to 15 mph. Sunday the wind is suppose to be light and variable. Highs in the high 50’s. Lets go fishing. Good fishing, & good luck. Don. |

Fishing Report for week ending 9-17-00
Both walleye and perch fishing have almost come to a standstill due to gale force winds most of this past week.
Smallmouth bass fishing has been fantastic. Lots of 4lb. plus fish!! These were caught in 15' to 25' of water. Didn't really matter what lure, but we did use softcraws.

Walleye fishing still remains very good in the flats area, 3-4 miles west of Rattlesnake Island, around Kelleys Island, and off the Sawmill Creek area. Try using a Crooked Eye lure in gold and orange colors or a Mayfly Harness when casting. If trolling, try a Stinger Scorpion Spoon with copper blades.
Smallmouth bass fishing was really good this week with lots of fish being caught, what fun!! My boat handled around 80 fish on Saturday. Softcraws in 15'-30' of water is working pretty good right now.
Perch fishing is also picking up very nicely using shiner minnows. Several locations to try are east of Kelleys Island, northwest of Kelleys Island, in the firing range around G,H, A Cans, between Lakeside and Kelleys Island, around Green & Rattlesnake Islands, and south of Starve Island.
