Rain, rain go away!
Well we had caught a few winter steelies and then the rain took it away. The rivers here are all pretty much blown OUT! I feel when the rivers come into shape they will produce enough fish to be good catching. Today ( 12-15 ) the sun is showing and some smaller rivers will fish in short time. I plan on fishing Saturday, one of the Coquille's. Will have more on this after the weekend! Till then Tight Lines! www.remingtonsguideservice.com

ELK & SIXES RIVERS
Fall Chinook are in the Elk and Sixes in good numbers! I have fished five trips so far and have produced fish on every trip. The current trip, The weekend before Thanksgiving was crowded but the fishing was good. The usual suspects have been working quite well. Back bouncing eggs or anchovies and Kwik fish with a sardine wrap can treat you good in the main currents and slipfloats with eggs in the back eddies are producing as well. The fish I have seen are bright and big, last saterday I had a 25# avg. on three fish. for information on these fish and rivers go to the fallowing www.remingtonsguideservice.com
There you will find contact info. and A way to keep up to date on fishing in south western Oregon River's

Well it's all getting started again! Salmon fishing has been spotty this year west coast wide and the rain has showed!! This is the time of year when late summers and late fall chinook trips collide. Kinda torn between two loves,The best thing is we are catching and in good numbers! The steelies are avg. 4 to 6 lbs. and 10 fish is not uncommon per a day. I predict this will improve greatly, a lot of silvers are heading for spawn and the summers are right behind them ringing the dinner bell!! The all to well known Elk and sixes rivers are rip and ready! These unpredictable rivers can produce awsome days catching and can also break your will with wind and rain in a minuets notice! I will have more on these rivers by weeks end. Good luck and good fishing!!! www.remingtonsguideservice.com

March 21,22&23rd. Roger and Ken from Long Beach Ca. Fished the south fork Coquille on the 21st boating 14 including one 12# native chrommer. The 22&23rd we fished the North Umpqua, we caught fewer fish but more quality fish. 5 on the 22nd and seven on the 23rd. The weather was nice all three days but the wind got us a little the last 2 days. Roger and Ken are no strangers too side drifting for steelies and were a pleasure to have in the boat. Today the 26th I have a group of four (two boats) A combined effort of 9 fish, on the north Umpqua. Plan on the south fork Coquille tomorrow will let you know how this turns out. For pictures of the days catch visit www.remingtonsguideservice.com all pictures will be updated by April 10th. Tight lines

Rich and Bob from S.F. Ca. fished Tuesday and Wednesday. They had A challenging bite and the weather was 50 on the high and the mornings were low 40's. for the two days fished, we hooked a total of 7 fish and boated only 3 of those. They had plenty of bites but the fish were fineky and would not hold onto the bait long enough for the hook. The water is cold cause the low level snow we got is slowly melting. The water color is milky green and a slow raise. These conditions make the catching part of fishing tough, but still fun! The weather is forecasted to improve and I will let you know on Sunday if the fishig improves with the weather. My hat off to Rich and Bob for enduring the fishing conditions handed to them and I will see them in the summer. Tight lines www.remingtonsguideservice.com

Just got back from the Fred Hall Long Beach sports show, Plus five days in Baja !! Bay of L.A. Where we managed to get wind and sun burned. Caught a few fish but the wind kept us on the beach more than fishing.
Put the boat in the water on the North Umpqua this morning and got six fish on a local drift. The water is in good shape. The temp is a cool 50 for the high today, The next week has showers and cool temps.I will have more photos and clients on Wensday. Till then keep the tip up!! www.remingtonsguideservice.com

Tyler and Gary hooked five and boated five. 100% how did that happen ?? we did miss a few good bites though. Good times and sunshine , all in all a good day! We seem to have a weather pattern, Suffering cold in the morning and nice and sunny by 10 am. Fred and Brett a.k.a. Dan, had A great day on the North Umpqua. They hooked 9 and boated 5 and a 1/2 steelies. Including this 7# hatchery doe (hen)!! This is Dan's first steelhead trip and I do not think it's his last. Fred has been with me for the last four years and is A great stick to have in the boat, meaning an experienced fisherman. All in all we had A great time and a successful trip !! Ron,Peggy,Donny & Cindy from Bakersfield Ca. enjoyed cold mornings and sunny days on the Main and North Umpqua the last three days! The largest fish was A 13 or 14# hen, Chrommer from the north. Fishing was fair to marginal but the sun and the water was great! There was A big fish bet going between the group and I cannot post the outcome but there was A split involved! Lots of fun and we will see them next year!! Tight Lines www.remingtonsguideservice.com

Willam and Gale from Frisco Ca. A great three days fishing the North Umpqua with the last day being the best. The first two days we needed sunscreen !! Today overcast and 55 for the temp. Boated five very nice sized steelies 13#'s being the largest fish. Most fish took ten minutes or longer to land. Very fiesty fish today. Right now there are lots of fresh fish throughout the system and very few downers. The umpqua river system is known for some of the largest steelhead in the state, I believe this year will be A banner year! Tight Lines www.remingtonsguideservice.com

Tough day on the North Umpqua, The river was about 12 to 18" higher than perfect fishing height. The weather was perfect at 60 for a temp and bluebird skies!! The fish on the other hand, well they did not play fair for Hank's last day of fishing. We had three good bites, Hooking one and lost it after a brief fight. I guess that's fishing. My hat off to Hank, he hung in there and at the end of the day he told me " I had A wonderful time." Fish again Saturday, will have more then. Tight lines! www.remingtonsguideservice.com

East fork Coquille with the same two guys today! A much better day, The river was high but dropping. The rain held off for half the day and the fish, Well they played fair today!! David and John with A combined effort of 7 fish hooked and 5 boated. An outstanding day for the conditions handed to them by mother nature. The fish were all in great shape and fought with vigor. The size ran 7 to 8 #'s for the day and conditions, I was impressed how well it all came together! Tight Lines www.remingtonsguideservice.com

North Umpqua river again today, Yesterday I had the strech of river to myself today thirteen other boats joined the party. Mr. and Mrs. Blueberry hooked three fish and we lost them all. Luck was not on our side today so we headed down river to an undisclosed area and finally boated a 7# hen the last few minutes of the day. All and all we fished hard and had a great trip The fish just had a different plan then we did. The water was a touch higher today and the weather was a few light showers and about 43 for the temp. Fished the North Umpqua today east of Roseburg near a small town called Glide. A husband and wife team from Temcula CA. A.K.A Mr. & Mrs. Blueberries. The weather cloudy with light showers temp about 45. Water conditions High but clear and fishable. Fishing was great for these conditions hooking 6 and boating 5 all the fish were above the 10# mark. One buck at 37 inches and the rest in the 32 to 34 inch range. I will never complain about numbers like those. Looks like the weatherman has changed his forcast at the last minute again so we will have to see about tomorrows fishing!!! Tight lines www.remingtonsguideservice.com

Todays weather was the opposite of yesterday ! Had some rain showers, hard at times but not bad. Fished the south fork Coquille again and the fishing was good hooked 9 and boated 7. The big fish of the day was around 10 # but we saw a 36 incher caught by another boat.( thats about 15 or 16 #'s) The forecast is calling for more showers throughout the week, so the rivers should stay within fishable range for awhile. I may fish the North Umpqua tomorrow will have more then. Tight lines www.remingtonsguideservice.com

We fished lots of deep water with out even a sniff all the action we got was from four foot and less! There was lots of boat traffic on the east fork cause most rivers are not fishable yet but will be in the next few days. Will have more fishing reports on Tuesday ! www.remingtonsguideservice.com

Today very very cold started off 29 degrees and white. I thought what the heck are we doing beating the ice out of our guides after every cast. Then the clouds rolled in and all of a sudden the fish were biting as of 10 am I could not do a thing wrong.
Twenty miles east of Roseburg is a small town called Glide. There the north Umpqua is a little smaller and has the tail end of summer steelhead run in great numbers. I started off with two clients in the front of the boat at 7 am this morning and the conditions were less than favorable. About 10 am the low front moved in and brought a 10 degree change and then the fish had A much better attitude about the whole headache and a boat ride thing. we finished the day eight fish boated and eleven hooked. The big fish of the day was ten too eleven pounds. Which is rather large for A summer fish for this time of year. Tight Lines

Today was much better, one client in the front of the boat. Fished for seven hours on the main Umpqua east of Roseburg. Hooked three fish and boated two chrome bright winter steelies. Both native hens the first around eleven pounds the second around six pounds. We fished close to tide water about six miles up but niether fish had sea lice on them. ( I was looking)Both fish were taken on yarn balls. The water is in great shape and will get better as this cold front has A good grip in our area. The boys at noaa are telling me that the rain is at least A week out.I will have more in A few days

Fished the Checto hard yesterday. The fish were not hungry. No luck. Tried the Smith in northern california today and the steelhead were biting really good. Took home a 31 incher and my pop took home a 29 incher. Several other boats in the water on the Smith and all were getting bites. I saw a couple land some other nice steelhead, I'm sure mine was bigger tho. :-)

We launched A fishing expidition yesterday. The water A bit high and merky with A touch of green! The boys at NOAA's river center say the river was holding steady with A touch of drop too it.Temp. A cool 42 degrees berrr !! The action was a bit slow with two fish hooked. One busted us off on A rock and the other came unbuttoned after 8 to 10 seconds of hard drag peelage !!Some days are more challenging than others! Next trip is tomorrow tuesday. Will have a better story for you then.

Subject: Fishing Report from Don Nelson Guide Service

Fishing Report from Don Nelson Guide Service:
The Upper Rogue Spring Salmon fishing is getting better everyday! Fish up to 30 lbs. are being taken with 14 to 20 lbs. being the average size. QuickFish with a sardine or anchovie rap and sandshrimp and roe are the two most popular baits being used.
The Umpqua River is producing Spring Salmon, shad, small mouth bass and Summer Steelhead right now with the shad and small mouth bass being in great
numbers!! The summer steelhead are just beginning to show up with July and August being the best time for them. Most of the Spring Salmon are being caught in the upper river near Glide from the bank because of the low water conditions.

Thank You,
Don Nelson
